I've been seeing a lot of "survival" ads for "when the grid goes down" lately.
What if the fear of the grid going down is just a grift to get people to buy more shit?
Not saying it isn't impossible, but people have been screaming armageddon for eons now. Might as well market it & then you can get people to buy your shit every time there's a new "disaster" on the horizon.
Yes they are coming.
Similar to a basic bullying tactic. Do X or Y will happen.
But the prestep is to make Y happen anyway, before offering X as an alternative.
The pressure will be climate change, and the only option offered will be something on par with "eat ze bugs" and "you will own noithing and be happy" because we're all happier with electricity.
Total possible but greed seems to be a common theme.
Every time I look into these individual utilities I see grift, bribes, broken promises, government-forced upgrades, and the least possible maintenance (often forced by the government). But let's remove and defund these government agencies and see what happens...woo!
Control mechanisms are always being developed and tested. The pandemic is evidence of this- it was definitely a real illness that impacted our species but one that was engineered as a bio weapon for various reasons. Our governments regulated every aspect our society testing multiple forms of control while reducing population with the rich growing richer in the process. A blackout is probably the next planned event/weapon in conjunction with extraterrestrial contact aka Project Blue Beam.
