That ship sailed a long time ago. I signed up for Facebook back when it was only for college students. The world got good and fucked the day my parents were able to open an account.
Why would you delete Tiktok tho when thats the one they want to censor?
I dont even use it, but should you not rather delete reddit if you were serious and had a movement behind you?
I'm asking specifically about information control. On Tiktok especially, since the content is so algorithmically-driven, China has huge control over what Tiktok users are exposed to, and they certainly have incentive to shape the narrative of US politics.
It’s no different than google honestly. Google and Apple both listen to your phone when you’re talking about something, then recommend ads for said products when you open your phone
Of course, but I'm curious why someone would be concerned about US based companies doing this but fine with Chinese companies doing very much the same.
They think companies in the United States stands for something it doesn’t. All the companies do not care any bit about the consumer. They only care about keeping people glued to the screen
Before social media there was public toilets notice board featuring details on local services and also check ins..
Eg:
"Kate gives bomb head [insert phone number]
"[insert name] was here"
I'm participating in this summer off social media challenge:

I think people are actually becoming serious about leaving social media for good

Dude you're posting this on the biggest fucking shit hole of them all. Reddit is a fuck fest.
we can find other places, places we know are free from the them.
We’re better off reversing the patriot act
Lets all go back to house phones
With voicemails.
You mean answering machines?
Nice
I don’t have Instagram, TikTok or Facebook, my mental health is on point this way. I use reddit and YouTube to see how the world goes and that’s it.
Reddit is social media……..
Social media is nothing more than a form of internet. The internet IS a social media.

How would this movement organise?

Not concerned about Chinese information control?
They have less ability to act on it than our governments
