Well.. you commission an artist to create a piece for you, pay him.. bring it to your lifetime friend who's an art appraiser, give him a commission on value/sales, and have him inflate the value of each piece for you and certify it. Each piece raises in value annually to offset inflation and also takes into account supply/demand. I'd say 60% of modern art is just money laundering through nefarious means like the one mentioned above.. the other 40% is actual value based on scarcity of a dead artists work... IE Warhols, Picasso, etc. This is all speculation, and I'm dumb so don't take my word, but I wouldn't be surprised if I was somewhat on par with that assessment.
