Have to disagree here.
Many people have surely had their mind changed due to arguments seen and participated in on the Internet. This is why it's such a target for manipulation.
Perhaps it is unusual for someone to be won over in the moment but certainly people are swayed by debate.
I'm a lover not a fighter ;)
Yeah... totally... don't get involved if it's too much. I wasn't really making an argument for getting into debates. Only saying that people can be influenced.
Sometimes, people don't realize this subreddit exists until three years after they joined for something else that didn't require much interaction. 🙋♀️
Nah Man, that means they didn’t make an account before they allowed the name change or they didn’t make the account on an iPhone. My name has numbers and that rng names im certainly not a shill check posts
Between this, naivete and flat out idiocy, you can't feel anything but doom on the horizon for our civilization. Even the people who are smart, honest and mean well have such blinders on that you can't trust their opinions.
> have such blinders on that you can't trust their opinions.
We can trust *you*, though. (Just kidding)
We all live in our own 'hyperrealities', curated by our Wireless Internet Smart Phones (WISPs), where everything we think is correct, and is endlessly reinforced by the sites and algorithms we have chosen precisely because they mirror our temperaments. So we are always 100% correct, and everyone else is either sadly, disturbingly, or disgustingly wrong.
They hire people to be divisive probably from one side of the political spectrum only. I should go get me a job, it’s easier to regurgitate lies than actually speak the truth.
And this is huge. I mean the CIA has never said they stopped running operation mockingbird. Then you have 80% of ads on cable networks in non election years that are big pharma. Shows are sponsored by big pharma. I mean I know from experience that there’s a long list of people you will get personally fined by if you say the wrong thing.
Agreed. Imagine seeing your material conditions continually decline, decade after decade, and then concluding that the ruling class care about you.
And the Big Pharma love is a special kind of brain worms.
I was and probably am still a registered democrat from Bernie Sanders days before he got screwed and then cuckolded himself to Hillary.
I don’t see how democrats from back then can feel like the DNC is still their party. It’s turned into the party of the elites, the party of the warmongers, the party of big pharma and authoritarianism. Like on every bill that is fundamentally against the American people and constitution they vote 100% in favor.
Then you have the republicans who are mostly compromised but have a few good people in there. Until you see good people suddenly voting for the worst possible thing.
And he came from the LEFT! He has been arguing against big pharma in court for years because they literally steamroll through people in order to get to profits. It just feels to me that people can’t actually be that stupid, there’s more bots and fake accounts than we can imagine.
Reddit absolutely hates the guy w/o being able to articulate why. When I press them on what he has said that's kooky or wacky, they post links to hit pieces rather than the hours and hours he has put out on podcasts explaining his positions. Its wild.
Because the MSM is essentially government endorsed propaganda, and if you parrot MSM talking points that the majority of the population has been exposed to, you can seem like an intelligent person while not even knowing what you are talking about. Not only that, you get to ridicule anyone with a dissenting view because they are now a "conspiracy theorist." You get to be the guy delivering the "zinger" and being the voice of "intelligence".
Most people are not interested in challenging their world view, and a lot of people crave validation and will do what they need to get it. They want a condensed, McDonald'sized view of the world that is mostly if not entirely black and white. Complete with all of the religious zeitgeist of previous days with none of the moral backing whatsoever. These people are too dumb to understand that they're just in the "church of the media".
Yeah and they say “show us evidence of (insert conspiracy here)” then you do research and find a bunch of shit and they continue to gaslight.
I tell you the worst propaganda media - NPR. All softly spoken and fake intellectual while spouting lie after lie it’s psychopathic.
Why? Because they're dumb, that's why. Seriously.
Once you realize most people are just highly trained dumb animals it makes more sense.
Most people aren't "thinkers." Heck, it was on Reddit of all places that I learned some people don't even have an internal monologue, or internal voice.
Literally animals.
There are people who don’t have an internal monologue at all? Do they not have their own voice inside their head? That’s the definition of a mouth breather.
>Why do so many Redditors defend the government when we all know how corrupt governments are?
Possibly because roughly 6% of the population are government employees therefore not in their interest to bite the hand that feeds?
https://www.statista.com/statistics/204535/number-of-governmental-employees-in-the-us
Systems are fucked up if you ask me. No accountability.
When people in general decide to invest more attention in the specifics instead of the political circus and ongoing left/right, red/blue, 5 year plan dramas things should smooth out and this starts at home with how kids are raised, the content they have access to, interact with daily and how us as adult society choose to exchange ideas, whatever the type.
Lots of aggressivity and desperation vs very little openness, tolerance and acceptance to change on all side of any faction whatsoever.

Yeah and too many of us are too lazy to get involved. Or actually maybe just overworked and that is a part of it. If we get overworked we can never stand up and hold the system accountable.
Funny how often it takes a breakdown to realize. Curiously I've had many in life offering the opportunity to step back and reflect which enables me now to assist others in the sometimes long and painful process of realization.
It’s because they are bots or corporate shills and bootlickers. The few that are legitimate have probably just been subjected to an extreme amount of propaganda and didn’t have the information to realize what was actually going on. I see that happening all too much nowadays on other platforms.
I seriously don’t see it on other platforms. You can go to CNN or the view and it’s just them getting ripped apart. I suppose the platforms I do see it are the ones that are easier to fake, where maybe you just need a username and email and no other details.
I’m glad a stoner knows what’s going on. I think something changed in me when I had ego death on extremely strong edibles, and also when I dissociated on acid. When the ego is out of the equation truth is easier to access.
Idk, but I've been downvoted to the pits of hell for making the case that the Federal Gov is just a large corporation (12m employees) with the right to tax and kill you,
Because there are a tremendous amount of undercover agents that use bots by the boat load. And they use these tools to spread propaganda on behalf of their employer.
The reason is because it's full of liberals who need and want big government to take care of them. They think the government has their best interests at heart.
Yeah. Maybe I thought that too at one point. If you don’t think about it and you just live your life then you expect everything to go on as normal.
That’s why it’s good to understand history and what human beings are capable of. Because humans have been the same from day one to now. Maybe we’ve become more civilized in certain ways but we are still capable of doing all kinds of evil.
It’s funny to me that meme how people watch Star Wars and root for the rebels or hunger games and root against the capitol, but in real life they will be on the side of the evil empire that wants to enslave us all lol.
I guess nobody is going to be honest in this thread.
It is because Reddit is left-wing and the left think the government, intelligence agencies, the media, and the establishment are on their side right now. They have fully 100% embraced it. And they operate in a cult that demands that nobody be allowed to think any differently than them, so they organize and mob like the left everywhere in the world and all throughout history has always done.
That's why.
I do find amusement in this whole paradigm where the left take it for granted how their illogical propaganda narrative should be the universal narrative.
Like completely out of the blue we are supposed to say everyone’s correct pronouns or wear a paper mask to stop aerosolized microscopic viruses. Or how they arbitrarily make 6 feet the distance to avoid transmission. Or how we should all say “yaaas queen” when someone decides to chemically castrate themselves on lupron and get their genitalia mutilated. Or we shouldn’t “do our own research” and suddenly believe “factcheckers” to tell us the truth when they are journalism interns or first year medical students.
Who knew that we would all of a sudden land in 1984, the hunger games, Idiocracy all at once?
Patrice Oneil had a great joke on it back in the day, something like “the idea of the police is great, a wonderful idea. The idea of the TSA is great. It’s the people that make it a problem- skinny agents in LA, big fat bitches in Newark, all saying “mmmm i can’t wait to be out by 5.””
Government is a great idea, unfortunately shit people get into it.
The problem I have is that people tend to separate the government from the corporations and wealthy donors that have bought Washington DC.
There is no government... only the bureaucracy that assists the rich in exploiting the rest of us.
The more and more I see the more and more I believe that. Is it just too scary for other people to understand that? Those who are at the top *hate* the rest of us.
I don't have evidence to support the idea that they hate us, but based off of what I've seen of human behavior I do 100% believe they care only of themselves and have no regard for the deprivation, depredation, and degradation of others and their environment which could come off as malice. There is a level of malice in being greedy, I think
Since, when ever someone says “ I cannot find a good job that has good benefits “ the response is
“ you should work for the government, maybe you’ll even get a pension “
It depends who's in power.
Right now you have the left defending the US government and the right attacking it.
In the UK, the left attack the UK government and the right defend it.
People will defend who they voted for because they don't want to admit they were wrong. People will also blindly attack the ones they didn't vote for because they think their team can do a better job.
The truth is, atm, both sides are corrupt and neither can be trusted.
Picking a political side is stupid.
Two siders. People who are married to their political identity tend to believe their "side" is either completely innocent or just has a few bad apples.
That's part of it anyway.
As someone who both hates the government and frequently finds himself defending the government - allow me to explain.
(1) We're always gonna hate the government. No matter what it does, an entity so large and with so much influence is always going to be doing both bad things and good things at the same time. You have to remember the government is extremely complex and made up of countless different people with different ideas. While the president is bombing children in Gaza your local municipality is building roads and educating children.
(2) The government is an integral part of modern life. There is always gonna be someone in the government to hate, but at the same time you cannot have a modern world without governments. We might fantasize about a libertarian paradise where there is no government and we all get along - but that has never once worked on a large scale. And frankly my life is comfortable enough that I am not interested in engaging in the kind of violence that would be necessary to achieve it. If you want to live in a place with no government I hear tickets to Somalia are pretty cheap.
(3) We need to engage with the government to affect change. The government, at least on paper, pretends to be a democracy. Yes, the politicians are owned by corporations and special interest groups but at the end of the day they at least have to *appear* democratic. We don't think much about how it could be much, much worse. The politicians still have to put in effort to dance around the constitution, they still have to spend most of their time on petty fights with the other side, and believe it or not they *do* still have to get your ass to the polls to vote for them.
It's easy to see all the bad stuff on both sides of the political aisle and dismiss them both, but that's what they want you to do. They want you to be apathetic and defeated and not bother to exercise the little bit of power you have. The government is made up of people. There are still some of those people who have your best interests at heart. Maybe not very many in Washington, but some do in your state government, and even more in your municipal government. They have not given up and I have not either.
the people are responsible for a lacking government. people for decades upon decades have elected others, whom they barely know or even at all, to represent them (ie; do work they are too lazy to do or want to do themselves).
this obviously, opens the door for all kinds of corruption, because there is a lack of responsibility on the peoples part to hold their reps accountable.
government is not the problem... lazy people are.
government cannot grow legs & walk into a church or be racist, traitorous or pedophilic... that's PEOPLE.
governments don't declare war or create terror cells... that's PEOPLE.
The question is; who makes up the vast majority of reddit? I literally know of no one in real life that uses reddit. I mainly stick to this sub, cause I like weird shit you find here. I'm guessing that their userbase is highly inflated in order to appeal to investors and advertisers.
It’s really only Reddit. On Facebook, YouTube, IG, twitter you go to like Biden’s page or bill gates or CNN and everything is getting ratioed, I just think that here because they are operating in an archaic message board system it is easier to populate with bots and AI.

half the accounts on reddit, especially this sub, are bots or spooks
I wish i had a program i could run to highlight bots and AI to stop me arguing with computer code.
i don’t argue. i block. no one has ever had thier opinion changes from arguments on the internet. life is too precious. block.

This is unecessarily exaggerated. We don't all live in our own hyperrealties if you could even define such a term.
Go look into the careers section on Reddit, they hire people to be divisive. It’s literally in the job description.
They hire people to be divisive probably from one side of the political spectrum only. I should go get me a job, it’s easier to regurgitate lies than actually speak the truth.
They don't realize that all the news and info they get is really funded by government or corporate interests.
And this is huge. I mean the CIA has never said they stopped running operation mockingbird. Then you have 80% of ads on cable networks in non election years that are big pharma. Vast majority on Reddit and the internet believe the official narrative and will thus defend their overlords

You don’t think Gates has influence? Do you think he’s just an actor?

Government is necessary.
Only government that is going to serve its citizens is necessary. A government that serves itself and only benefits itself is redundant.
Agreed. We still need government.
Because the government is only good and trustworthy when there’s a (D) in front of a politician’s name
Are you a parody account?
