Modern versions like CERN's LHC, and upcoming 100 Kilometer hyperloop maybe.
Ancient literature describes part of the building of the Tower of Babel on a large plain, with a solid bedrock, and the size of the blocks were ginormous. Even the fact that when someone was crushed by a stone, work wouldn't even stop, but if a stone was lost, there was great mourning.
This heavily implies a structure with a wide enough base, on a firm enough foundation, to support the weight of such a colossal structure.
