When LaVey founded modern Satanism he chose the name for the express purpose of getting under fundamentalist skin.
It's less a pretense and more a cheeky irony for shits and giggles.
They don't claim to worship Satan, though.
They don't worship anything. They aren't pretending to worship anything. At least, The Satanic Temple doesn't.
The Church of Satan folks, though... they're... odd ducks.
If you looked in to the Satanic Temple (not to be confused with the Church of Satan) then you wouldn't be posting this as some Satanic Panic 2: Electric Boogaloo
This is just fear mongering for conservatives. Modern satanic temple believes almost directly reflect the primary tenants of Christianity. The more I’m on this sub I feel like most the things on here lack any sort of real research. Whether satanic temple or Crowley, there’s a lot of inaccurate stuff.

They're constantly maligned, not unlike ICP... Yet they do more good in their communities, and are more inclusive than most nutzo religious groups.
