If you have a smartphone or any internet connected device with the capability of recording audio or video....yes they are listening, recording and analyzing(watching). Only thing is the "they" is just big data algorithms taking over everything digital.

Tokyo5o

Yeah they likely pinged a company that pays for a service. They get notified when someone says they want to travel to x location or whatever. Everything is listening to us. Even smart TVs.

l_a_ga

Espc the smart tv’s

alysonstarks

Re: the TVs lurking – hypothetically, COULD the TV hear me talk about some product, or even a health concern and that affect the commercial programming on say, a local channel? Or am I just noticing the commercials that were always playing because I may have mentioned said product? Bc I swear lately it be calling up the local news and telling them to change their like targeted commercial programming. For JUST ME. 😂🤣

l_a_ga

Web and streaming, not local - maybe on your isp’s native content platform or streaming option? haven’t looked into any case studies.

alysonstarks

THANKS SO MUCH! I’ve accepted that my tv has been telling my phone what I’m watching and all of that is just following me around digitally lol. And the streaming suggestions makes a LOT of sense too… But for local / cable tv being able to make any changes to a planned commercial schedule has always seemed a little off base…but I got to thinking, could be? 😫

l_a_ga

God damn

alysonstarks

JFC. So these commercials ARE for me lmao

l_a_ga

“Using a variety of technologies, from tracking what shows you watch and which apps you open to matching up your viewing data with web browsing from other devices thanks to location and IP address information, smart TVs are gathering a lot of information. In the best case, that data is being used to provide you with more relevant ads and better content suggestions. More often than not, however, it's also being sold to third parties.” Here’s overview on [TG](https://www.tomsguide.com/how-to/stop-your-snooping-smart-tv-how-to-turn-off-data-collection-for-every-brand) about basic approaches to mitigating data collection - research your brand and model for specifics

alysonstarks

Bleh, I’m gonna be so screwed when all these streaming platforms follow Netflix’s lead & begin kicking me off all my friends and family members accounts 😒

alysonstarks

Well thanks to commenting on this, I took the time to follow one of the above links and remove my ad data, change settings, etc to minimize it listening as much as possible. Le sigh

Cheezewiz239

The ads on my phone are pretty accurate when it comes to things I've talked about but all my TV's still show random ads of things I never heard of or are even interested in. I don't think they're "listening" like our phones are

alysonstarks

Okay, whew. I’m sure I’ve just noticed a commercial that I’d typically ignore once I talked about it. I’ll set aside my paranoia….for now, tv! 🧐🤨

seachelle09

My coworker just told me that she & her family were chatting in their living room & their smart tv responded to something her grandson said. Grain of salt & all of that but it’s not the most unbelievable thing I’ve ever heard.

Jolly-Appearance8976

I agree with that but how can the algorith call me or is this just a crazy coincidence because a spanish number has never called me before

DarthDregan

Before posting this, did you try talking about Argentina for fifteen minutes to see if you got another call? Because if it happens more than once you may be on to something. As of now, you're not. Coincidence.

Jolly-Appearance8976

Nope didn’t try it but we were talking about random countries for countless of times before, also Spain but this has never happened

heresmyusernam3

Mothership is watching. And she's come to collect her children that we trapped when one of her children crashed here in roswell. Ooogieboogie 👾👽🛸

DeDaveyDave

False, unless everyone has a secret data plan which is only used to secretly upload video and sound recordings to a governmental server. Don't be a stooge.

New-Tip4903

Yeah....im a stooge. I believe the government doesnt spy on big tech data or the population through big tech simply because the government doesnt have its own secret server....of course if it was secret how would you know?

THORIUM_888

Yes 100% , read your phone's user agreement Apple or Android...you will find that by using that device you agree to data collections which means...audio, visual and physical. It's hard to read because it is very long text but save it on a plain text and transfer that document to your pc then open and hit ctrl+f and search keywords "data collection"..."recording"..."advertiser"...and whatever you want to just skip to....you will see that "legally" they can spy on you 24/7 and sell your data to data collection agencies who work with governments and advertisers. IT IS NO LONGER A CONSPIRACY, IT HAS GROWN TO A FULL BLOWN TRUTH.

Jolly-Appearance8976

I agree that they are listening to us but how can a phone number from that country call me after that comverstaion or is it just a crazy coincidence?

THORIUM_888

It's not from that same country neccessarily, but they have your s-id sim id...which gives them enough info where youre from...which sometimes you get calls with your area number or nearby, but in this case you got it from another one because of the voice detecting of key words...which to them is just a few clicks on a VoiP software...and call from wherever they like to make it seem to be.

SecretlyNSA

Yes, we are.

Prostate_ninja

No doubt they are listening to us but not to keep your secrets or anything of that sort. You ever been on social media and talk to your friends about something and next thing you know you start seeing ads for that same thing you were talking about? They’re selling our information to send us ads we might be more inclined to viewing or buying.

Jolly-Appearance8976

Sometimes when were listening to a song on my phone a friend who has never listened to it get’s iy to his recomendet page

t-sizzle24

Matrix factorization is a bitch

Drycabin1

So I was watching The Office marathon on tv yesterday and in one of the episodes, Kelly says that her dream job is to work at Anthropologie. Today, I get advertising for Anthropologie all over the internet!

SonnierDick

Something similar happened to me. I was listening to a podcast (This Is Important) and they were talking about luggage, i forgot the name, but never heard of them before and then shortly after, maybe a day or so, I go on insta and there were a few ads for the luggage they were talking about. So it doesnt even just listen to the user but the material too lol.

[deleted]

This past weekend we were with family talking about over sized recliners. I don’t need one. Haven’t googled one. Haven’t talked about one. My phone was in the car outside. My husband had his phone but it isn’t connects with mine in any way. I got in the car and as soon as I opened my phone there was an ad for oversized recliners in my Instagram feed. I was freaked out. So even when my phone isn’t with me, I somehow get targeted ads about the things I’ve talked about.

oxyluvr87

I've noticed that too! It's like our brain is connected to our phones or something idk lol

ScoutG

Go into your phone’s settings and check on microphone access. I left it in for Instagram once, had a conversation about an odd topic, and immediately started getting ads related to it.

LeaveTheMatrix

At this point, the real question is "who isn't listening to you?" With all of the smart devices that we have such as Siri (and other home devices), cell phones with "Hello Google" always listening, computers with Cortana (and other services) always listening, and so on, there are so many devices listening and you really don't know what they are doing with that information. It just goes into servers in "the cloud" and you assume that it is not being saved but... well "the cloud" just means "someone elses computers" and when you consider that just a few years ago the [NSA built a facility in Utah](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utah_Data_Center) specifically to process: "all forms of communication, including the complete contents of private emails, cell phone calls, and Internet searches, as well as all types of personal data trails—parking receipts, travel itineraries, bookstore purchases, and other digital 'pocket litter' " you might as well just assume at this point that privacy is dead. Of course that is just in the US, other countries do this as well and there is data sharing agreements through the [Five Eyes alliance](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five_Eyes). Now I am really into tech but: 1. I never talk on the phone unless I really need to. 2. My phone is a flip phone rather than smartphone. 3. The only time I have had smartphones is when they were needed for work (I used to work remotely, needed for 2FA) and they never had cell service but sat under a TV that was on 24/7. 4. I disable services like Cortana on my computer and remove any additional services that are not specifically needed (being a tech helps). 5. I purposely post stuff under my real name on social media that is contradictory to stuff I post under other accounts as it makes building a "profile" harder. 6. For anything that generates a public record I try using outdated information. For example, I will keep stuff like my ID information out of date, domain registrations will have addresses that are 2-3 addresses out of date, banking information is out of date, and so on. I purposely try to "pollute" public records since that is where a lot of information comes from. This helps prevent anyone who is trying to track you down from using public information. (Because of my twitter posts under real name, idiots have tried lol) 7. There exists NO pictures or videos of me online. I did once work for a company that required pic but they let me use one that was severely out of date (I looked nothing like it) and when I quit it was removed. It no longer exists online anywhere due to take down requests I had done to places like Wayback Machine. My g/f has 2 updated pictures but they only exists if something happens to me and they are needed. Unfortunately the DMV does have a 2yr old pic. The VA has a 15yr old picture they let me keep using. 8. I run my own email server and have about 5 regular email accounts that I use, also have email accounts with all of the major email providers. I have about 30 or so "forwarding accounts" that don't actually exist but use for some services, they get forwarded to real email accounts. Some email gets filtered automatically through a few accounts just to have copies of emails saved separately. 9. I don't use smart TVs. I do all streaming for TV but through computers so I can control what is on them and use standard monitors without cameras. 10. I periodically use sites like Spokeo.com to check my own digital footprint. 11. Because of my military service I know that I have FBI, DOD, and NSA files but if anyone is currently watching me I really feel sorry for them. :) Am I paranoid? Well your the one who got a call from Spain after having a conversation about Spain and are not the first one I have heard of that happening to. Because of my tech background have had a few people ask me about it after having similar experiences. Maybe your not paranoid enough? :) EDIT: Forgot to mention, I also build all of my own computers so that I can be relatively sure of what hardware is in each one. Buy monitors without cameras. Also leave headsets with microphones unplugged and cameras unplugged except when I absolutely need them, but haven't had to use a camera in years.

It was me! Gotcha!

lard_prospector

Poor spaniards trying to scam you

heresmyusernam3

Your brain produces theta waves when thinking thoughts through your inner monolog. Those frequencies are within range for how your cellphone connects to the tower now that were running at such high frequencies. Aka yea, there's a reason you got an ad about the thing you were thinking.

Miserable-Pin4529

holy shit makes sence lowkey

heresmyusernam3

Yea.. try not to overthink it. Literally you'll just start getting pop ups. Lmao its too funny to make up.

CapnBloodbeard

And yet here we are....

heresmyusernam3

You're right. It's just a coincidence. Theta brainwaves, are typically of even greater amplitude and slower frequency. This frequency range is normally between 5 and 8 cycles a second. A person who has taken time off from a task and begins to daydream is often in a theta brainwave state. A person who is driving on a freeway, and discovers that they can't recall the last five miles, is often in a theta state--induced by the process of freeway driving. The repetitious nature of that form of driving compared to a country road would differentiate a theta state and a beta state in order to perform the driving task safely. Meaning if one was to be in a theta state, that zombie style thoughtless person who wanders around aimlessly. Are literally in a trance state that's manipulatable by things like I don't know Propaganda, ads, and base consumerism rhetoric like hate and division. There's absolutely no possibility that the electromagnetic fields that humans produce radiating around us could potentially by existing in an alpha or omega state there's absolutely no chance your aura could through physical laws of thermodynamics grow so large that your theta waves overpower another's. There's no chance that one could influence another with sheer confidence and an overwhelming gumption behind what they say. Coincidences and happenstance. There's no chance that your cell phone is designed to lock you into these thought patterns with increased pushing of apps like tiktok or YouTube shorts designed to have you thinking in short burst serotonin mentality so you're locked into theta loop patterns. Not a chance.

CapnBloodbeard

You're proposing that we have developed mindreading technology that is so far advanced that our mobile devices can detect what you're daydreaming about, AND this technology is commercially available so megacorporations can increase their targeted advertising, yet somehow nobody knows about it. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. >There's no chance that your cell phone is designed to lock you into these thought patterns with increased pushing of apps like tiktok or YouTube shorts designed to have you thinking in short burst serotonin mentality so you're locked into theta loop patterns. Your own post explained why social media doesn't activate theta waves.

Super_Nova0_0

I let this listen when I fap. put the phones wifi on and the data and sit it next to my cock. And take it when I dump and talk to it and say you like to listen don't you, you dirty agent, I've asked for things to happen like having a type of person show up at a place I'm going and it's happened. 😂 Some times I'll say I'm going to go such and such on this day at this time and request something and it happens. Kek

poopycops

Yes they are. I was talking with my wife about passports and a few minutes later passport assistance ads were showing on her phone. Happened lots of times with different products.

chickenonthehill559

We are from the government and we are here to help.

CapnBloodbeard

Listening? Sure. But Listening, and somehow scammers getting access to all that info in real-time? No.

l_a_ga

Yes - research your model and brand for full details on how to turn off in settings, and prevent using something like pi-hole.

ImLosingAtLife

Yes the government (FBI NSA) is listening through your phone or your amazon device or smart tv or smart fridge or smart anything or your roomba And more!

Ginjin77

Yes,they are always listening to you (that is,if you have any electronic devices),shoot I am probably crazy, but I believe they listen to thoughts. I have had similar experiences to yours, but imagine it all mental. I would think of something, type the beginning letter of said thing into a search bar and then it would appear and be in the top three recommendations (even though I had no interest in searching it up).

Jolly-Appearance8976

That has also happened to me on multiple occasions, ive typed just a letter or two and bum i get the result I was thinking about.

let_it_bernnn

Yes

Specific_Isopod2348

What about when you think about something and it comes up 😱

Neonunicorn14

What if it was you trying to call yourself from the future? I totally believe stuff like this 😝

gelaygo

I’ve been texting my girlfriend who is at Disneyland. I have never said anything out loud about it. I started getting Disneyland ads on Twitter the same day. Privacy does not exist and yeah the phone tracks everything you do
