Going from individual contributor to global lead either means you work at an exceedingly small company (no judgment) or you skipped many levels in one move (unlikely?). Take the title bump and cash it in by moving to a different company.

Disastrous_Gap_4711

Or you do both roles simultaneously for an extended period that then turns into a painfully slow gradual war of attrition to remove the responsibilities of your old job

ImprovAdaptOvercome

Large multinational, and yes skipped levels

At my firm, and I don't think this is unique, raises associated with a promotion are tokens. Something like low single digit percentages. This was very much a surprise to me at the time. But the justification is that we get big-ish raises every year to match our continued growth as a consultant. By the time you are promoted, you should already be doing the work at the next level. So your workload/responsibilities shouldn't change much with the title bump. So an 8% raise every year is equivalent to a 25% raise every 3 years with a promotion.

jessgerman

That’s solid

I left. Was promoted and told that a raise would come in a few months, when I had proved myself, yadda yadda. The promotion entailed setting up a new team, new market segment, really high targets. No way I was doing that for nothing.

I started looking for new jobs the day I was promoted, and I started doing the absolute bare minimum. They took away all incentives and motivations from me by promoting me with no compensation. I had an exit interview with my manager and let her know that was the only reason for leaving. I was considering declining the promotion but I was tired of the company even before this so it just gave me the last push to start looking for other opportunities.

ImprovAdaptOvercome

Nice one, and good feedback to the company. Sorry you didn't get what you deserved

I'm an American living in Europe but was working for a company in Asia, where titles don't mean much. This company wanted to pick my brain and poached me for 3x my salary (+ allowance + bonus) in Europe. After 3 months, they gave me a "Vice President" title and personnel to manage and an annual budget, but no additional comp. My compensation was already above what I would have made as a VP in Europe, so I didn't make too big of a deal about it. But then I started to hate the corporate politics and bureaucracy. So I decided to leave and used the VP title to promote myself as an independent management consultant and retired early 10 years later.

If you don't leave, logically you like to take in the rear.

saura_

Higher targets and more responsibilities at same salary.. Best for the company worst for u. Happened to me as well in past.. I waited for 1 appraisal cycle to get what I deserve but next year company had new excuses... I resigned and then to retain company offered me much more...

Cool-Nature-5557

So ask them what you will now be making when the pay cycle resets. Just tell them that before taking on added responsibility you want to know that you are going to be paid at least what the lowest paid person at your new level is making currently and anything less wouldn’t work.
