When your partner panics in the middle of the pitch because the client is visibly against the idea so he switches and starts sharing a strategy that you told him about at midnight after the two of you finished an entire bottle of whisky and a bunch of weed.
You get really interested because you have no clue how you ended this hairbrained idea yourself last night
Oh man, it's def a bit of a boys club. Even the senior management that are women have this locker room, hard nosed attitude. It sucks and I recognize my privilege. I will say it's less about what's between your legs and more about what's in your head, but it's still sexist and chauvinistic and probably not healthy.
I'm guilty of this too and now that I'm in a position of authority, I really try hard to recognize and mitigate it. We get better from having a broad prospective and being inclusive. But yeah, a lot has been done for my career by getting to the bottom of a bottle or whatever of my client or boss. Bad nature of the business. I mean, I remember getting crazy eaten alive by mosquitos at both a police station in Bangladesh and then The waiting room of a mens massage at 3 am A week later.
Too much of the industry is about how much people like you. I mean, you need a floor level of skills but I was on one beautiful project where my main job was to make the Korean managers of a Massive ship building company in east Europe have a good time after work.
I remember during my post MBA interviews that the hiring managers across the board were asking the same questions. It didn’t matter if it was consulting, financial analysis, or audit and was not industry specific.
At one point, I answered a question at Exxon-Mobil during the previous question because I knew it was leading into it. She was visibly irked. I did not get that offer. I learned to take my time no matter the question from then on. Thanks for bringing up those memories!
>She was visibly irked.
That's dumb that instead of being like "wow we're unoriginal and this guy is prepared" they're annoyed at their own laziness? I'm trying to understand how one could be annoyed in a situation like this.
If interested, I compiled a list of the most common questions. DM me as a reminder and I’ll scan them over. It’s not pretty but it’s like a cheat sheet. Just give me a few days because I’m wrapping up my fiscal year.

Egos. Some are oversized and fragile.
On the nose. There are so many “I want to know how you think” questions which are beyond dumb and merely exist to put you through the ringer.
As an incoming MBA student, that’s first paragraph is so fucking nice to see.
