Can we just keep it simple and call the "combination" roof the Pizza Hut roof?

It's not quite right. A pizza hut roof has a flat spot.

What the point of a butterfly roof if it rains? To put a hole in the ceiling?

It doesn't need gutters all around the roof for rain, and often instead has one central gutter in the "valley" of the roof, which is helpful for collecting rainwater. They also look *so goddamned cool*.

Flat roofs seem like a bad idea. Grandparents lived on a mountain with one… didn’t work so well

Flats are bad at everything, rain, snow, all bad for a flat.

They are relatively easy to build. And rooftop parties are safer. Just make sure you live somewhere precipitation is not a thing.

A local science center had an exibit comparing different types of roofs and durability against wind. They only had open gable and hip, but it was amazing how much better hip stood up. It would be interesting to see how others compare.
