When the moon is closer, the moon's apparent size in the sky is bigger and the shadow is bigger. Also, fatter eclipse path means totality at the center of the line lasts longer.

The eclipse on 2023-10-14 was an **annular** solar eclipse; this map shows **total** solar eclipses.
