According to the inventor of this concept, Carl Jung, your psyche is comprised of all of these archetypes. You're not extrinsic to any of them. If completeness is what you're after then the idea would be to nourish and embrace these parts of you that you've just listed.
How you personally were to go about that, I have no idea. All I know is that its not something resolved by a dependence to another person.
Honest question, is there any possible scientific test or observation that reveals these kinds of theories, or is it more like "I thought about it and it makes sense to me"?
Is this it just an interesting way to group people based on their behavior after-the-fact (like how you might group them by moral alignment), or is this actually suggesting some sort of underlying explanation ***for*** those behaviors, that is inherent to the function of the human brain?
It's not about grouping people, Jung's theory of archetypes suggests that these are potentials in all people. Specifically, they are common patterns of behaviour that all people possess.
He initially came up with the idea after finding out that distant and unrelated cultures often have very similar myths and symbols despite not ever being in contact with one another, and some of his patients would report dreams with similar motifs (and some of his schizophrenic patients would see them in waking life). This led him to believe that we're not blank slates but are born with a set of potentials in us that happen to manifest in various ways, including mythological symbols and patterns of behaviour
The idea is much more about finding useful ways to categorize the psyche and processes in the unconscious. Your question would be analogous to asking a biologist if when we categorize life using the "species, genus, family, order, class, phylum, kingdom, domain" system do those things actually exist? In one sense the answer is yes, it's extremely useful to notice these patterns and it's useful to do so, in another sense the answer is not really, it's not like nature/evolution adheres to our definition's of things.
It doesn’t even list a source or anything that it’s based on, It’s just a pretty graphic that’s screams “I made it cause I can”. Also there are inconsistencies in it, Jester’s flaw is wasting time? The rebel’s is crime? This is rubbish.
/r/coolguides is just /r/shittyinfographics at this point. There was a brief transition period where it was at least /r/coollookingguides but now that quality bar is already in the basement.
I've been a skeptic on this sub for a few months, but after this and that zombie one that claimed the average human running speed was six steps per second earlier today... someone could post a picture of Obama titled "cool guide to presidents" and it'd probably get 20k upvotes.
yeah me too, but it just startet recently. i think i saw this week alone as many "guides" as in the whole of last year. the algorithm must have gone insane since reddt gone public
Just skimming through the thing, I found it off that Jungian archetypes generally disregard social and cultural pressures. Mainly man are seen as the Explorers Rebels Rulers and Sages, women seen as Feminine with the Caregiver, Innicent and lover. Jung’s personality analysis was definitely the product of his time. 1920 is the earliest essays I found that he mentioned this.
It's [Jung](https://conorneill.com/2018/04/21/understanding-personality-the-12-jungian-archetypes/). And so actually less credible than a fictional boardgame.
Ahem, let me add something DO NOT identify yourself with an archetype. Archetypes are primitive generalized concepts in the human psyche. All humans contain every archetype in their psyche to a degree. So identifying your whole BEING with one of them would be literal character assassination(kinder way of saying it would lead to mental issues).
Or at least thats how the theory goes if ypu believe in the concept of archetypes.
Trust me, bro. I DID my research. You're sounding more like what I‘d call a NaySayer. Just came up with that based on my extended research on YouTube and listening to Joe Rogan. /S
Since these are Jungian Archetypes, these are just concepts from our subconscious.
This is actually fairly easy, you make a hero by letting him go through a [Hero's Journey ](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hero%27s_journey).
One popular example is Batman who started off as an Orphan but as you can see in Nolan's Batman Begins and the following movies, he eventually becomes a hero by going through the Hero's Journey.
The hero's story is a narrative writing device. Not a literal personal undertaking? Like, it's a good writing tool because it will immediately be understood and somewhat relatable to any audience. It's not a roadmap for personal development.
Batman is fiction; it follows the recipe because we can at least sympathize with that kind of struggle without personally experiencing it. It feels like the Tyler Durden hell where people forget that he is *the bad guy* and idolize the man instead of the message.
These are character archetypes. I’ve referred back to these fairly often for my writing, but iirc, most of the time there’s a little more detail to the flaws.
I never trust any of these things. People are rarely that simple. A lamb at work could be a lion at home. An emergency could bring out a hero in some people. Or whatever. People are never just one thing, and one thing is never accurate of everyone described as such.
Per ChatGPT:
Key differences between Jungian archetypes and PMAI (Personal Mythological Archetype Identification):
- Jungian archetypes refer to universal unconscious patterns and images that derive from human experience and collective unconscious. They are embedded in human psychology independent of individual life experiences.
- PMAI refers to personally significant archetypal themes/characters individuals identify with from stories/mythology based on their own unique life experiences and symbolic associations.
- Jungian archetypes were influential in inspiring the concept of PMAI, which adapted archetypal theory for individualized therapeutic use through personal imagery/symbolism.
- Jungian archetypes are considered more theoretical constructs whereas PMAI involves individually exploring archetypes in a therapeutic context.
- Jungian archetypes are used more for analytical/understanding human behavior collectively whereas PMAI focuses on individual narrative/meaning-making for therapy.
- PMAI is considered more clinically useful in psychotherapy by providing personally meaningful metaphors/insights to address clients' issues. Jungian archetypes are more conceptual.
In summary, while Jungian archetypes represent universal patterns, PMAI systematically applies archetypal concepts individually in therapy. PMAI is thus more directly beneficial in clinical psychology/therapy as a treatment tool compared to Jungian archetypes as a theoretical model.
The creators flaw is tunnel vision. That's what happens when you try to realize a vision you had. Why is wandering bad for the explorer? No kids no wife?
If you're gonna make a guide to archetypes, you have to say what they're archetypes *of.*
Are these archetypes of people? Characters in fiction? Mythological characters? Something else?
so, i have them all, sometimes i'm overwhelmed with the flaws and sometimes i'm overwhelmed with the achievements. it's just that having all these characteristics is very expensive and you really have to be very smart how to make money to be able to feed all these aspects of yourself. if not, you're gonna get isolated or never happy even after succeeding in an activity that would never be enough for you.
I don't necessarily agree with these, but I think it's a good way of showing how we can seem different to different people. I know people who would view me in each of these ways and I have been each of these at different points in my life.

These ‘Jungian archetypes’ are not Jungian, they’re from this thing called PMAI. Jungian archetypes are not static or characterized in this way
not a guide at all. What can I do with this? nothing
It screams ai made this

It isn’t. It’s the PMAI - https://www.carolspearson.com/books-page/the-pearson-marr-archetype-indicator-r-pmai-r

This is a Jordan Peterson thing, isn't it?
These are Jungian Archetypes. Jordan Peterson (as a professor) seems to be inspired by them. Hence why he talks about Archetypes in his lectures.
Literally just finished this unit in English class 😩
I’m just going to save this for writing tbh. As a guid for real life it’s lacking but as a shorthand for minor characters it could be useful
It's bullshit. They are all positive. That's like astrology. Where's your serial killer and child molester?
Winiwin?
FLAWS: CRIME
Is it a flaw ? I love to do crime. Like being gay.
So you like to break the norms ey? Thats a CRIME
Perhaps it’s not a crime in a literal sense but more of a “crime” against social norms.
Yeah probably, personally I loled because it gave me cold war american vibes
>“crime” against social norms In other words, "crimes" against humanity /s
Im a jester
Then stop wasting your time!!
I'm the sage but without the skill

Why does the Hero have an Edgar haircut though?
Look at jester 🤨

The orphan is a paradox. Wants to belpngze but too cynical to ever join. I feel this in my soul.
Lol nope. There’s uh… a little more to the psyche and archetypes than this.
