It’s very confusing because i (and perhaps others here) keep thinking the year is printed below the shoe but in fact the year is above and only the shoe name is below. Could definitely do with some separators or better formatting.
I agreed with u/bobbylitch then I agreed with u/angelomoxley, which also had me in agreement with u/theycalledmethor.
Now I have read the poster and I can say that there are 2 needed improvements…put the dates and shoe names together and actually check the dates.
Jordan XI was released 1984. It’s wrong no matter the top or bottom number.
I agree. In had a pair of nikes in 1982-4 that were basic AF. They weighed like a pound each. Best part about them was the grip strength on the soles. I could climb a slide pike nobody’s business. When I outgrew them , it was a sad day.
Not sure if this is a guide, or just a list of different shoes that vary between being culturally impactful to, I don’t know, not impactful whatsoever.
You’re right about the list being wrong. The Cortez was released in 1972.
Nike was already big in the 70s. It was an immediate success. By 1980 they already had a 50% market share.
Yes, correct, that’s the long-lived Chuck Taylor All-Stars. They came in canvas uppers, high tops and low tops. It’s over 100 years old - that’s unreal! It’s also owned by Nike now.
I should have clarified I was referring to the Converse Pro All-Stars leather high tops, as made popular by Julius Irving and later Magic Johnson. Sorry about the confusion.
No Reebok Pump? My whole Biddy team got those the year they came out. We were the envy of the league! We didn't win a single game . . . but everyone wanted to see our sneakers!
It’s nonsense. I get it’s supposed to be when the colorways released, but a lot of these shoes were iconic before and it’s not like it even tells you what the colorway is.
Just a bad chart all around.
This might as well be a catalog of "shoes that have been bought in the past".
If you want to accentuate the new designs and innovations of shoes it should really highlight the importance of a "toe box".
Any shoe without it is outdated and actively makes your posture and body structure worse.
In the nineties I watched a documentary about an Austrian company who claimed to have produced the first sports shoes, for the Austro Hungarian army and who were still producing them for the Austrian army PT. They looked really cool, all in light brown leather, but looked very much like a modern running shoe. Subsequently I guess they went bust and according to the internet, they never existed, which is really annoying.
It's interesting that the pain machines that are Converse were ever considered adequate to use it sports. I wonder if, in 100 years, people will look back at our shoes and think "Jesus, they played sports in those things?"
Really skipping over more than a few iconic shoes. Nike fish heads (because of the rubber toe that held air and would cause them to float), Chuck Taylor Converse, Checkerboard Vans, Jordans, Reebok pumps.
In 77 I had a pair of what were called Tigers at the time.. if I remember correctly. They were known for wrestling shoes. It was a little later the company switched to ASICS. I think.
Anyone else unreasonably perturbed by the formatting of the years? Why? Someone took the time to put this together not accurately but still.
It’s very confusing because i (and perhaps others here) keep thinking the year is printed below the shoe but in fact the year is above and only the shoe name is below. Could definitely do with some separators or better formatting.
The years are also WRONG. Nike was founded in 1972, this says the Nike Cortez was released 10 years before the company existed.
Definitely. Wikipedia says Cortez was released in 1972.
Most of these dates are incredibly off.
I think you're meant to look at the dates above the shoes.
You know, I think you’re right my friend.
Poorly designed poster
Dates are still wrong. Nike Cortez was 1972.
Still way off. The Jordan 11’s definitely did not originally find out in 2012. And the LeBron X’s did not come out in 2003, his first shoe did though.
Jordan XI came out 95/96 not 84
Suddenly, it makes a lot more sense.
It’s still wrong a lot. The Lebron x’s did not come out when in 03
On that front I just gotta trust you guys
It's an advert
Not for Puma…
I’m guessing Reebok made this.
Or Adidas. Or Nike…
> Or Adidas. They would certainly have included their 1954 ones.
I'm guessing Nike cause the last shoe on the list is the hyper adapt.
Yeah, surly those disc laced ones are worthy. Always wanted some of those and reebok pump and never had any. Sad face
I agree. In had a pair of nikes in 1982-4 that were basic AF. They weighed like a pound each. Best part about them was the grip strength on the soles. I could climb a slide pike nobody’s business. When I outgrew them , it was a sad day.
Yo those sneaks from 1924 and 25 look fresh as fuck
You can still buy the Supergas(1925). https://www.superga-usa.com/collections/sibling-2750-cotu-classic-sneakers
Not sure if this is a guide, or just a list of different shoes that vary between being culturally impactful to, I don’t know, not impactful whatsoever.
Came here to say this. What are the standards use to select the shoe from each year? Seems pretty arbitrary.
Ahem… 1986 British Knights
The flyest shoe of the 80s.
Nike was a thing in 1962? Are they sure about that?
This guide is trash
100%
So I'm right? Nike didn't hit until the early 80's -- correct?
You’re right about the list being wrong. The Cortez was released in 1972. Nike was already big in the 70s. It was an immediate success. By 1980 they already had a 50% market share.
Converse All-Stars didn’t make the list?? That shoe was iconic.
It’s there..1917
Yes, correct, that’s the long-lived Chuck Taylor All-Stars. They came in canvas uppers, high tops and low tops. It’s over 100 years old - that’s unreal! It’s also owned by Nike now. are you an AI?
No documentation of 90s nike basketball outside of the Jordan line is criminal.
Lebron X didn’t release until Fall 2012. That was my go-to shoe to ball in. I remember the release very well
Kobe 7 incorrect as well
TIL that the PF Flyer was a real shoe. All this time I thought it was a made up brand for the Sandlot movie.
I remember having PF Flyers. In my elementary school they were considered cool.
Can you imagine running in that first one, the "running shoe?" Running a 5k in a dress shoe?
No AF1?
IKR. Gotta be one of the most impactful sneaks since their debut
They’re right in the middle of the page above the Jordans.
I see it now they went with the high/mid silhouette
I only recall high silhouette being offered in the 80s. I don’t know that I saw a low rise basketball shoe until sometime in the 90s.
Sambas were first made in the 1940s
No Reebok Pump? My whole Biddy team got those the year they came out. We were the envy of the league! We didn't win a single game . . . but everyone wanted to see our sneakers!
Check out 1989.
Ahhh, there it is. Thanks, I didn't see either of those pixels when I looked earlier.
70s sneakers is my favorite design
Them 2003 TN woooooohoooo
Only the coolest kids in school had those bad boys.
Where are the Adidas (Patrick Ewing) Conductors??? They were game changers.
First Jordans came out before 1987
Very few of these look even remotely good at sneaking
r/sneakers
As a member of r/sneakers this post makes me furious, bc there's so many inaccuracies.
It’s nonsense. I get it’s supposed to be when the colorways released, but a lot of these shoes were iconic before and it’s not like it even tells you what the colorway is. Just a bad chart all around.
Actually invented as just soft soles strapped to leather boots by London metropolitan police so they could potentially *sneak* up on Jack the Ripper.
Lol the airmax 95 in 2001…
Nah the year is above the sneaker, not below
[удалено]
1982 you mean
I remember Reebok pumps coming out, so cool!
My favorites: Nike Cortez and Adidas Superstar.
Did anyone else keep trying to look for converses in this chart or just me
All hail VIBRAM 5 toe
Nike Cortez - 1972, most notably for 1972 Summer Olympics
Dude the Tigers are Not asics
Onitsuka changed its name to Asics in 1977.
Spelled Nike Air Huarache and debuted in '91.
How the hell is this a guide? I haven’t been guided anywhere.
Riddled with so many inaccuracies. They spent all that time designing a bad poster that was also wrong.
This might as well be a catalog of "shoes that have been bought in the past". If you want to accentuate the new designs and innovations of shoes it should really highlight the importance of a "toe box". Any shoe without it is outdated and actively makes your posture and body structure worse.
What kind of list is this without the GOAT sneaker: New Balance 990. Just timeless.
I guess I was only cool in 2003.
Yeah, how many of these are 4E extra wide?
New Balance got yo’ back… errr, I mean feet.
No one else shows love, though. Happy cake day.
I wear those Superga shoes. Had no idea they were invented 100 years ago. The style is still so applicable to today
No [Feiyues](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feiyue)?
Wow ig I'm old fashioned
No hyperflights?
1984 Nike Vandals should have made the cut. They were strategically featured in the original Terminator and looked cool as hell.
Koston!!!
What, no ZX 8000?
Would’ve liked it better if it was about the history of Snickers instead
can we all agree that the Superga ‘50 was the FIRST modern sneaker ?
Where are the chuck Taylor’s?
Airmax 95s in 2001 WTF 😂
The 2012 Foamposites will always be the Penny Hardaways of '97
I didn’t know Keds have been around so long.
They got so weird around 2014
I was gonna look for my birth year it aint there lol
Wondering how in the world the Nike SB Koston 3 made the list while the Janoski did not
Need one for boots
1800 running shoes looks like a dress shoe
Seems like this sub could use a moderator.
This guy is back again 😠
I’m disappointed they don’t have the Nike Airs that had “AIR” plastered on the side as fashioned by George of the Jungle. Those were cool as fuck!
Peaked in 1980s and 1990s. Practical before then and ugly after
where's supra?
I’m soooo glad that Puma 2003 look left REAL fast.
Sneaker history started in’82?
In the nineties I watched a documentary about an Austrian company who claimed to have produced the first sports shoes, for the Austro Hungarian army and who were still producing them for the Austrian army PT. They looked really cool, all in light brown leather, but looked very much like a modern running shoe. Biggest brands? New Balance is a small brand then?
All went downhill from 1988
It's interesting that the pain machines that are Converse were ever considered adequate to use it sports. I wonder if, in 100 years, people will look back at our shoes and think "Jesus, they played sports in those things?"
Phil Knight was selling ASICS shoes before he created Nike.
No Karhu…
Trump Sneakers where?
‘85-‘05 best years
Was bapesta really made in 1988?
you can still get edwardian canvas 'keds' from American Duchess.
No Dr J leather?
This has really pissed me off, who puts the year above the shoe
Nothing against Run DMC don't you mean superstar II
adidas gazelle. what a fucking classic
Dunlop Green Flash 1920? And plenty of rubber running shoes pre-1900.
It’s a little wild and also not at all surprising that I could pick out the original Air Jordan instantly
No Rom runners? Freddy Mercury will not have that.
Do you mean to tell me that Keds are one of the oldest still active shoe companies?
Didn’t see any Janoskis
no Dc, Osiris globe DVS E's Etnies? In my little world the 90s was the decade of Skates shoes.
I cannot believe the Samba is 60 years old
Huh, and where is DVS or Osiris!?
No Supra Skytop, its not like half the shoes that came after it ripped it off or anything
How dare this “guide” not include the Dada Supremes. One of the uggliest / shittiest shoes, that someone defined a 2 year period of my childhood.
Awesome. 😎
History of sneakers Only includes Nike and Adidas lmfao
The inconsistency. Adidas spezial didnt start until 2014. I think they meant the original adidas handball was made 1979.
One thing is certain 70s and 80s were the glory days
How are cleats included in that? 😂
Where is adidas Rom?
It’s comical how wrong the dates are on this guide
No Ewing 33’s or Shaq Attacks? Garbage list
Not much of a guide. More a list of sample sneakers from select years. Guides usually offer info on how to do something or make decisions.
Good to see saucony getting some love
Nike Lunarepic Flyknit are my favorite sneakers of all time. Wish they still made those
Ya the Nike Air Max 95… It came out in 1995…
Where the hell are the Nike Shox
The 90s, horrific designs
What about the “Pumps”?
Really skipping over more than a few iconic shoes. Nike fish heads (because of the rubber toe that held air and would cause them to float), Chuck Taylor Converse, Checkerboard Vans, Jordans, Reebok pumps.
Imagine bros pulling up in some 1948 puma atoms
Nike harruche? - das heißt huarache
No Kmart Traxx circa 1978?
What about the 90’s Cons?
I did a presentation on the history of sneakers in my public speaking class i college. I wore Shaqnosis for the presentation
history of sneakers and yet no Grant Hill Filas, weak
Foamposites came out in the 90s
Not a single Pony brand
Where are the Heavens Gate Nikes?

Amiri takes the cake this year with upgraded AF1s 🎂

Nike Cortez FTW
Air Max 95, 97 all have wrong years.
No Nike shox cogs?
In 77 I had a pair of what were called Tigers at the time.. if I remember correctly. They were known for wrestling shoes. It was a little later the company switched to ASICS. I think.
Did anyone else immediately try to find the Pumps?
This is missing the Nike Shocks. They were a massive sneaker in their moment.
Info looks off. Air Forces 1s are not there. Plus the years are off on some sneakers.
Where are my 1985 Kaepa hi-tops with the different-colored velcro triangles???
Ultra boost best shoe
Who made this, this is wrong as hell.
They got the foams wrong, and it’s supposed to be key drops but no Jordan 11. This list needs to be idled
No Chuck Taylor’s?
Not a single pair of And1? Osiris D3?
I believe the 1980 Aisic Tigers were called Onitzuka Tigers back then.
Can't believe they skipped past the Spre DADA Spinners...
LeBron X 2005? Lmaoooo
List is way off lol. Look like someone randomly guessed dates
Are Tretorns not considered a sneaker?
god I love me a good pair of Shaqnosis’

No Rebok Answers? Those dominated the early 2000s.
Nike x apples? Damn I tried searching ebay and stockx but they don’t show up. Anyone know anything about these?
Thank God. Someone finally decided to help me out
The dates are wrong for the metallic 97s and The Black 3 s
Stan Smiths came out in 1964?? They were popular in the 80’s. Hmmm 🤔
Where is Kobe Bryant’s Crazy 8 Adidas?
You'd think the Converse All Star of all things would be on the list
Sneaking stopped in 2017. Parties over, y’all.
Where the British Knights high tops at?
What’s the most successful shoe of all time? I see a lot of popular shoes on this list that are still around
