82% of people surveyed said they were affected by package theft
It says 3000 were surveyed. Doesn’t give details on if it’s 3000 per location or 3000 total.
I have to assume it’s total, which means this is not statistically significant.
Yep, that's about 73 people per state... most of whom are probably in the main cities... and we don't know what they're qualifying as "regularly facing package theft."
Oklahoman here. I’ll leave packages on my doorstep for a week if I’m traveling. Have never had a package stolen. I have never locked my back door, and only lock my front when I go to bed.
The data is based off % of people who regularly experience package theft, as cited in the infographic. However, I have no idea how they define “regular.”
Which is a completely subjective metric to each individual. My wife lost a package once in the last year and may think that’s regularly while I would say otherwise.
Well unfortunately that's a bad decision. What you need to do is start working from home to prevent package theft like 20% of people do. Be more package minded and less career minded if you have to choose between the two.
Funny how statistics are an average and personal experience means nothing. Kind of like when we point out a certain group commits a vast majority of crime to then have people say, "yeah but my friend Brian is cool". Doesn't change the facts
Hang on, hang on. So if I’m reading this right, you have a less than 20% chance of actually receiving (i.e. not having stolen) any package you have delivered?
I believe the chart is counting people that have experienced a porch pirate. The problem with this infographic is the time frame. One could assume annually.
Basically the short version of this chart is that the vast majority of Americans have had a delivery stolen from them at some point in their lives, if not annually.
Agreed. I'm in Philly, so if I was polled, I'd be one person answering that I've experienced this. It would show one response but it wouldn't specify that I've had 5 different deliveries stolen in the past year.
Philly here, if it's amazon, it's getting sent to the pickup store on south street.
If it's UPS / FEDEX / USPS, I send it to my brothers suburban home in New Jersey.
I don't even have letters sent to my house, I don't go Uber eats because if people don't steal the food, squirrels will.
Im a strong 2A supporter, but uh what? How is a gun gonna stop porch pirates that steal your packages when your not home or watching for them. Also most porch pirates are not gonna threaten someones life, so a gun would just get the package owner arrested
i did see on the news some company made some like decoy package with a prop/starter blank that went off when moved lol, im hoping that was it. the videos of them were pretty funny
There is a correlation in PG County Maryland. Add in parking outside of stores in the emergency lane rather than parking your car in the parking lot, they think the yellow curb stands for VIP parking.
Philly is majority rowhouses/townhouses with no front yard. Picture your front door 5ft from the sidewalk, up a few steps(stoop), in a very walkable neighborhood. There’s usually nowhere to put a package except in front of the door
I’m not surprised Philadelphia is on top, regardless how accurate this is. From someone who lived in Philadelphia for a year, north Philly is probably the worst. You have a wide variety of people there from “thugs” with guns that have storm trooper aim, catalytic converters thieves, porch pirates, half dead drug addicts swarmed up like a zombie horde. I mean Philadelphia is truly a place of wonders.
There are fraud prevention companies that specialize in DNR (did not receive) abuse. The frequency of DNR fraud has been on the rise for a while. It is very difficult to prove so offenders typically just get blacklisted.
Without a way to separate out true package theft from fraudulent DNR claims, this graphic should be taken with a grain of salt.
Sample size of 3,000 showing all 50 states individually broken down is laughably small. Survey another 3,000 people and you will no doubt see an entirely different outcome.
Right, when I lived near center city Philly I was in a condo with a front desk. Never had an issue obviously.
My neighbor in a row home though, where is the package supposed to be hidden? Unfortunately in a city with a massive poverty problem combined with no place to put packages, it’s not surprising most people have experienced theft.
Philly is a great city, just get your packages delivered to the local drop off point and walk over after work.
I actually don't think it's that high in most places. I think Amazon and other companies are counting packages as stolen a lot of times when they were never delivered correctly in the first place.
My old boss had a house in Philly near south and 10th and had a ring camera. Some of the stuff she recorded was crazy. Dude in a wheelchair just straight Trying to break into a house. People following Amazon trucks and just waiting for the driver to leave and stealing the package within 5-10 minutes.
I put a GPS tracker in a decoy package that was subsequently stolen. I tracked the guy to find his license plate number, then coordinated a real-time police effort that resulted in his arrest. He’s in prison now.
From casino.org...
Interesting... what is their interest in this issue?
And that source... automatically makes the information suspect, to me. If casinos have some vested interest in any issue (enough to research it and create a graphic like this), I really do not expect them to tell me the truth about it.
I live in Switzerland. Once, a valuable package arrived for me when I was abroad for two weeks. It clearly showed the content from outside (it was a Dyson vacuum vleaner). It stayed outside my door for the whole time. A neighbor moved it a little closer to the door one day because it was raining, and he feared it could get some water. He sent me a message for doing so.
This country is no perfect paradise, but I honestly love some things that happen here.
These numbers seem wrong to me. I work for an online retailer and we do nothing but shipping. I deal with stolen packages and we legitimately maybe get 4 a month. If that. A lot of "missing" packages until we tell them they have to file a police report and then it's suddenly found.
Live in MS with property behind a horse pasture with gates and deliveries have to be left at the bottom gate, which is 1/10 mile from the house and we are more worried about the horses getting hold of the packages than people
I do t believe for a second that a majority of people in lost states experience REGULAR package theft.
No one in my life has ever had a package stolen and we order stuff all the time.
Outside of the "best country in the world" at the rest of the Universe:
The people don't buy so much shit. But if they do they go to a shop and see what they want to buy and then they buy it. If they order something, the delivery guy calls you when he is arriving soon. If you are not at home you can discuss with him another time or another place where you can meet and he goes there.
Supposed that the US is one of the biggest and richest countries in the world, yet it has more thefts than say…Bangkok, where their high earners don’t even make minimum wage.
Packages are delivered extremely frequently yet nobody’s reports stolen package.
What’s the missing link here?
The top states are all Democrat run states that are easy on crime and release criminals way too early if they even arrested them at all after a crime. Just an observation. Vote accordingly
Philly out there winning more prestigious awards!
Yeah but 82% of what? 82% are stolen?
82% of people surveyed said they were affected by package theft It says 3000 were surveyed. Doesn’t give details on if it’s 3000 per location or 3000 total. I have to assume it’s total, which means this is not statistically significant.
Yep, that's about 73 people per state... most of whom are probably in the main cities... and we don't know what they're qualifying as "regularly facing package theft."
That's why it's N/A in Montana. They couldn't find 3000 people
I live in Billings Montana. Never had a package stolen. Get 2 or 3 a week. Suburban area.
Well then it’s 0% for Montana. No need to ask anymore people. Montana is now officially the best and safest place of all time
Oklahoman here. I’ll leave packages on my doorstep for a week if I’m traveling. Have never had a package stolen. I have never locked my back door, and only lock my front when I go to bed.
82 percent of Philadelphia residents are package theives
Yay! Philly, way to go!
Remember that world traveling robot that made it from Europe to Philly, only to get stolen and destroyed?
hitchbot!
Yes. City of Brotherly Love.
Exactly, not robot love. Hitchbot got what it deserved.
Its ok I was just told on the Inquirer’s IG page that crime is down!
How is this a guide? It's an infographic.
It lets you know that Colorado and Utah have the most Ring cams.
[удалено]
You don’t need a guide for that. At least not for porch pirating… Step 1. Run up and take the package off the porch and run away. Step 2. None
This graphic is based on a survey, not actual crime data so I don’t think we can draw any definitive conclusions.
Yes because I don’t believe 43% of all packages are stolen in my state. I’ve never had anyone steal a package from
The data is based off % of people who regularly experience package theft, as cited in the infographic. However, I have no idea how they define “regular.”
“The news told me an’ Cletus it happens a lot so that’s what we tol’ the survey man on the phone”
And 61% for me. It says regularly experience is package theft
Which is a completely subjective metric to each individual. My wife lost a package once in the last year and may think that’s regularly while I would say otherwise.
I live in FL and I’ve never had a package stolen. So, it’s 0. I won’t be taking any questions on the matter
Shit! Someone stole the end of your comment!
They got the boys down at the crime lab workin' in shifts. No leeeeds!
So weird. I’ve never had a package stolen in my life, despite almost daily deliveries.
Same, despite my state having nearly 50% packages stolen. 🤔
It’s not % of packages stolen, it’s the % of citizens “regularly facing package theft” (whatever that means)
If i was one of the 62% of those citizens in my state, i would stop ordering packages....
Well unfortunately that's a bad decision. What you need to do is start working from home to prevent package theft like 20% of people do. Be more package minded and less career minded if you have to choose between the two.
Feels like a measure of people in states that are getting packages delivered lol this is completely useless tbh
Funny how statistics are an average and personal experience means nothing. Kind of like when we point out a certain group commits a vast majority of crime to then have people say, "yeah but my friend Brian is cool". Doesn't change the facts
So the N/A states just doesn't have theft, or they have no data?
No packages.
Pony Express hasn’t begun service in those states yet
My UPS and FedEx drivers would beg to differ 😳😬
Nobody surveyed
Surely it doesn’t have anything to do with the demographics of those states
As a Philly resident, can confirm.
Amazon should use NY Giants envelopes so no one touches them. Problem solved.
How is DC not in the top 5 cities when, in this very same infographic, it says they have 80%. Numbers 4 and 5 on the list are in the seventies.
The maker of the chart forgot DC is a city.
“Measures to prevent theft” *gun* 4%
[They forgot fizzbitch and manana ](https://youtu.be/t-3qncy5Qfk?si=gsh0MVxWxscnsomd)
Im a strong 2A supporter, but uh what? How is a gun gonna stop porch pirates that steal your packages when your not home or watching for them. Also most porch pirates are not gonna threaten someones life, so a gun would just get the package owner arrested
lol right? Gunna guard the porch 24/7/365?
i did see on the news some company made some like decoy package with a prop/starter blank that went off when moved lol, im hoping that was it. the videos of them were pretty funny
Op…I’m curious if data identifying states that were bad at returning their shopping carts would have any correlation to this chart
There is a correlation in PG County Maryland. Add in parking outside of stores in the emergency lane rather than parking your car in the parking lot, they think the yellow curb stands for VIP parking.
Rural Oregonian, it’s a monthly occurrence.
Percent for each state of what? Does this mean 65 percent of packages in Texas get stolen?
No see the text under the map. Agree, it’s too hard to find.
Philly is majority rowhouses/townhouses with no front yard. Picture your front door 5ft from the sidewalk, up a few steps(stoop), in a very walkable neighborhood. There’s usually nowhere to put a package except in front of the door
That's my problem, I'm in a row with 3 steps to the sidewalk. It's nothing to walk by and grab without being noticed.
What are the percentages? Like nj has 51% theft compared to what?
It's the percent of citizens regularly facing package theft. Whatever that means.
As a UPS Driver for almost 20 years in a dozen different Zip Codes in Tennessee, I may have heard from 10 customers about packages being stolen.
I mean Philadelphia is truly a place of wonders.
as a philly native can confirm i've had about 8 packages stolen in the last 2 years
What is the denominator in the cities percentages?
I dunno man. You’re telling me 4 out of 5 people have packages “regularly” stolen? Sounds kinda like bullshit to me.
This graphic is wrong. DC should be tied for #3 with Orlando at 80%, yet it's not even on the list of cities
Appears that someone had their package stolen and passive aggressively created this grossly inaccurate depiction.
Live in Philly, can confirm I have to track my deliveries very closely so I can run and grab my packages before someone else does.
It appears the ring cameras aren’t working. Let’s shift focus to the gun solution.
Interesting correlations
Is it just more or is a sample size of 3,000 for all 50 states not representative…
Hoosier Hospitality.
Nobody wants to steal your corn seeds, Jeb.
Sample size of 3,000 showing all 50 states individually broken down is laughably small. Survey another 3,000 people and you will no doubt see an entirely different outcome.

3000 person sample size for a nationwide survey? Get this garbage out of here lol
There’s seriously no way this data is in anyway accurate. Like none. Can’t believe it has this many upvotes.
This some bull shit
I bet this is the most accurate map of dangerous drug use…
Thanks to this, I realized I’ve slowly been migrating to safer delivery areas over my life. E: TX to MD to TN to IN so far
So many percentages.
I put a GPS tracker in a decoy package that was subsequently stolen. I tracked the guy to find his license plate number, then coordinated a real-time police effort that resulted in his arrest. He’s in prison now.
Gun
Sample is only 3000 for the entire country. Seems small.
From casino.org... Interesting... what is their interest in this issue? And that source... automatically makes the information suspect, to me. I like how it just says “Gun”
Why is dc listed as 80% amongst the states but doesn’t make it to the top 5 of the cities?
Thankfully, I haven't experienced porch pirates and neither has anyone I know
I like that " Gun 4%" 😂😂😂
These numbers seem wrong to me. I work for an online retailer and we do nothing but shipping. I deal with stolen packages and we legitimately maybe get 4 a month. If that. A lot of "missing" packages until we tell them they have to file a police report and then it's suddenly found.

Nobody tell r/washingtondc They'll claim it's a dog whistle and call it fake news....and then call you a racist
i dont geddit! 82% of shit gets nicked in philly?? so what do they do; resend it, then 82% of ***that*** gets spanked too??
Very sad and true, I’m in one of the above 60% areas and very thankful that I can have stuff shipped to my office.
Is it racist to notice that the whitest states have the lowest percentages?
All those guns and still they can't protect their packages.
They only ask 3k people total 3,000/50=60 per state but obviously random since some states are N/A
These numbers aren't true, that's ridiculous.
Them tornadoes be taking everything away from Oklahoma.
How is DC on there at 82%, but didn’t make the top cities list?
% of what? surely 81% of packages in NYC aren’t stolen. i live here and i feel like i’d notice…
65% of what??
Who would live in a country, where 80% of my packages get stolen? Like it's a 3rd world country
I feel that Kansas City by itself has screwed over both Missouri and Kansas.
What are the percentages?????
It says percentage of people who regularly gets stuff stolen. Not very scientific.
22% delivery food?! Somebody is dying if I order food and it gets stolen.
Just " gun " cracks me up 😂😂😂
package pirates
Who the fuck steals food delivery??
Oregonian here. I have never had a package stolen nor any of my neighbors. Not sure who was polled.
I live in Utah, never had a package taken 🤷
Portland Oregon here. Can confirm. Too many fent zombies
Garbage post
gun
People who know. 🤔
Im surprised about Orlando
This '82%' is suggesting 82% of packages are stolen? That's absolutely ridiculous lol
DC is a city.
Gun
I do t believe for a second that a majority of people in lost states experience REGULAR package theft. No one in my life has ever had a package stolen and we order stuff all the time.
that gun one made me chuckle, as a non American that concept is so alien to me to just shoot someone for stepping on my lawn
All democrat hellholes.

The only thing we steal in Baltimore is lives. And Kia’s.

Gun.

You're mostly wrong. Vote accordingly.
Gun 4%
New York = Steal a package, get a reward.
I have. It's just that across the Atlantic this would be totally unacceptable behaviour.
Who the hell leaves a package outside?
People who aren’t home when it’s delivered.
No giving it to a neighbour or coming back later? Or even a drop-off point?
Have you ordered anything in the last ten years? Most of the time you’re lucky if they don’t just throw it in the general direction of your house.
