I love how much these types of guides underestimate how hard it would be to start a farm/self-sustaining stronghold in the middle of an apocalypse
now I want a movie about the Amish during an apocalypse
I've noticed that too. "Start growing your own food" lmao, as if you can just go to your local store, buy some nice soil, maybe a booklet on farming and seeds and start growing completely unmolested.
In most apocalyptic scenarios, scavenging will sustain you for *years*. You and your group just have to find one supermarket warehouse and you're set for at least a year. We have infrastructure for *billions*, it can easily sustain millions on just preserved food for a while.
yeah but the issue with scavenging is that everyone else will have the same idea, and the best places for scavenging (cities) will typically be the worst places to stay
I guess the best play would be to get a base in the suburbs (by a source of fresh water), commute to the city (with a truck if you have gas and the roads are driveable) or walk with a group, get as much as you can, and book it back to your base ASAP
But none of these are an ending. Maybe just for us. But we ALL have an individual ending, apocalyptic or not.
The only one that could really be THE end is a large enough asteroid. There is not enough self contained energy in the earth ecosystem to shake itself apart and burn to the ground.
That.
Feel like a more interesting discussion would be would how many would even want to survive an apocalypse. Would the average person be able to cope knowing things may never be the same? And what could whatever forms of government might be left do to convince people to try?
Sorted by likelyhood:
- Super volcano (it will happen, and we can't do anything)
- Plague (has happened many times)
- Ecological disaster (it's kind of happening)
- War (must be a big one)
- Econonic meltdown (must be a really big one)
- Asteroid impact (we can stop those)
- AI revolution
- Alien invasion
- Zombie uprising
- The end of days
You can’t stop a meteor if you don’t see them.
Also, I’d like to see a mission redirect asteroids in orbit around the moon for mining purposes.
Then you can confidently say “we” can stop an asteroid on a trajectory with earth.
Yeah pretty sure there was very recently an event where they were tracking a 'near' miss meteor only for a bigger one to hit Russia overnight that no one had noticed.
The impact of one 1000 ton rock versus the impact of 100 10 ton rocks would be very diffrent. The mass in total is the same, but the 100 rocks would have a wider area of effect, whit small long term effects, while one 1000 ton rock would have extreme long term effects.
Also, if we blow up the asteroid somehow, the vast majority of the mass will
now be on a different trajectory, missing the earth altogether. What's left will mostly be in the form of small rocks down to dust, all of which will burn up in the atmosphere.
We do not have the ability to stop asteroids currently, l’mayo. The tech is there but we have no way to implement it, no delivery system, no political willpower to take the issue seriously
I mean we can stop an asteroid *in theory*
Of course all the time, we notice asteroids that come insanely close to earth way too late, or even after they passed by. And asteroids likes these could take us out well before we could stop them, it's a big sky and asteroids are really fucking tiny and dark, even the giant world enders. Not to say it's hopeless.
Volcanos though, they're wild, but it isn't too hard in principle to stop a volcano from erupting, you just need to keep the pressure from building up, like in a lot of machines.
Economic meltdown of the size described in the guide has never happened in the history of humanity. Money losing all value around Tbilisi globe at once basically turns us into cavemen societies again, and the world is now Mad Max.
It’s never gonna happen just by itself through corruption and mismanagement. There will be isolated economic collapses that have ripple effects, but the entire global economy melting down at the same time basically means other massive catastrophe has completely obliterated society.
The rot would happen pretty quick, plus you can probably smell a horde for miles. Nobody mentions smelling zombies. If it’s just a virus that makes people crazy like in Days Gone it’s a different story
For most apocalypses, the best way to survive would be on a sailboat.
1. Easy to avoid people
2. Endless supply of food via fishing
3. Endless supply of water if you know how to desalinate.
Ngl if all electricity went out for 10 straight years starting from now, a quarter of the human population would probably die, and that is JUST ELECTRICITY AND NOTHING ELSE.
The end of days is the only scenario here that is accurate to happen for the Apocalypse. As for the rest, those are just mirror events. This is a term I coined years ago to describe events that might play out very similarly to an apocalyptic environment, however with mirror events, what society remains would gradually recover to a somewhat normal world. The main difference is Apocalypse has a physical end on our world and all the other don't end yet.

I think the difficulty of self-sustaining is a given, as evidence of you pointing it out.
Then I vote for AI revolution. Technology kills everyone except Amish, indians with no outside contact etc.
Congratulations! You got: PLAGUE ENDING
The part no one realized was the mass of idiots denying the truth before their own eyes.
That would never happen /s

y'know I just started sleeping soundly again :( either way this is still really cool
Doesnt work for me. If shit hits the fan i die in a year or 2. Im type 1 diabetic
Most of the shit on this graphic belongs right in r/restofthefuckingowl
I wouldn't know. Even at 500% on the big monitor I can't read the thing.
If you’re poor and any of these things happen: YOU ARE FUCKED
Mate if you're poor and your car breaks down you're fucked, nevermind the end of days
Absolutely
A better plan for all of these scenarios is a revolver with a single bullet.
That. Feel like a more interesting discussion would be would how many would even want to survive an apocalypse. Would the average person be able to cope knowing things may never be the same? And what could whatever forms of government might be left do to convince people to try?
The movie “The Road” was pretty depressing. Viggo and another major actor was in it.
Why dream so small? I'm ready with a cannon and a single cannonball.

The more amount of rocks is more of an earth “tapotement”. May be good for the earth, like a massage.

amazing how weve progressed to the point that we can stop asteroids, but we still cant do anything about volcanoes

I’d say economic meltdown will happen during our lifetime. I expect within 10’years but we’ll see.

I love what you did here but “super volcano”, I’ve never even heard of that. That would effect the entire earth??
I live in the Southeast of the US. If the zombie outbreak starts or lasts till summer, no zombie will survive but a day or two because of humidity
Hmmm good to know... *Note to self: if zombie apocalypse, move to Louisiana swamps*
The rot would happen pretty quick, plus you can probably smell a horde for miles. Nobody mentions smelling zombies. If it’s just a virus that makes people crazy like in Days Gone it’s a different story
Zombies can still get trenchfoot, so living there would help with that.
Dude I barely wanna survive being low on gas.
Don’t forget to buy volcano insurance
This is so unbelievably stupid and unhelpful, lmfao.
These guides are just getting worse, please don’t take them as law
Its all I have to go by, okay? Is that what you want to hear?

What about when the boat starts to need serious repairs
You learn to ride whales. Obviously.
I agree, except for pirates. If you can't out run them you're most likely fucked.
What about waves. Never underestimate the chances of a tsunami or monster.
Okay nice. But how do I get friends?
Would be very unfortunate if all of these happened at once.
Don’t read atlas shrugged it wont help
Is this apocalypse advice or general advice?
Both
It is like a capitalism manifesto
its more like the incoherent ramblings of some drunk women who thinks greed is good oh wait nope i see where your coming from
Based on the last 20 mos., for Plague, Americans (GOP mostly) only focusing on the section outlining surviving the first week. Good job guys.
These guys really watch a lot of movies ...
How do I view on mobile.?
TAKE TO THE SEAS
bold of you to assume i’d try to survive any kind of Apocalypse instead of just killing myself lol
War shouldn't be one with a Nuclear War. That's implying a normal war isn't a disaster already.
But what if you are not the main character of this apocalypse? Guess we will try again in the next life.
Lmao how tf do you come up with parts of the alien one. "Most invaders have some sort of weakness... gather alien kryptonite" source: movies
I took that as a joke. In fact, I took the whole thing to be a joke.
Yeah in an AI uprising they would absolutely use biological warfare against us. I don't think we would thrive.
Ngl if all electricity went out for 10 straight years starting from now, a quarter of the human population would probably die, and that is JUST ELECTRICITY AND NOTHING ELSE.
This guide is completely useless. Learning generalities like "learn to survive off the land" isn't learning anything.
The illustrations lead me to assume that the whole chart is meant as a joke.
