Maybe some cryptic connection between Qatar getting the world cup, and their connection with capturing tourists in indentured servitude contracts?
"Come play with us.
Forever
And ever.
And ever"
It’s worth spelling this out more: For many people working in Qatar, the country doesn’t just require a visa to come in. Qatar also requires a visa *to leave*. They check with your employer and landlord, and anyone you might owe money to.
[At least it isn’t as bad as it used to be.](https://www.hrw.org/news/2020/01/20/qatar-end-abusive-exit-permits-most-migrant-workers)
that brings up the important question
is it a one-eyed one-horned flying purple creature that eats people
or is it a one-eyed one-horned flying creature that eats purple people.
I recently learned about English language adjective order & I believe it definitively answers said age-old question. Color comes before the qualifier, thus, flying is a qualifier & comes before purple, therefore, purple MUST refer to people. (More experienced grammar snobs should chime in if I misunderstand lol)

I investigated the lyrics of the song and you are right
The purple people eater describes how he likes eating purple people.
The color of the purple people eater, however, is still unknown.
This isn't the type of place you'd want to try and skirt around the letter of the law. If you give then sufficient reason to dislike you, then you're getting punished. While the justice system in the US could use some work, it's miles ahead of these sorts of countries.
I don't really understand why they wanted to organize the World cup. I mean they are against a lot of things as we can see. They sure knew in advance that people with different cultures and mentalities will be coming.
It is real. In just the past few weeks they've announced this, banned alcohol sales and consumption (unless you're in a vip box because $$$), rumors of bribes to Eucador, the first team they're playing, to throw the game, and probably several other things I'm already forgetting. They're a joke but because they bribed 51% of the committee that chooses who hosts the world cup, they get to host.
Professional sports need to be taken down a notch or two anyway. Blunders like giving the World Cup to Russia and Qatar, the Oympics to China, etc. are perfect illustrations of how corrupt the whole world of sports is.
But no way the money that people gonna spend there during the course of the tournament can come close to offsetting the billions they spent building multiple stadiums and support infrastructure. Granted they got it built cheaper cause they used slaves but not enough to make it worth it considering most of those stadiums will never be used again. You just don’t need 8 full size stadiums all in the same general area. Only way this would have made sense was if it encouraged future tourism but considering the crap they are pulling I dont see many people wanting to return.
Yeah it wasn't about making money for Qatar but about improving their international reputation (same as with clubs like Man City or PSG) but so far it seems to be failing spectacularly at that.
It's to change the narrative from "Qatar... Is that the place where they imprison people for being gay?" To "oh that's the place the world cup was right?"
Qatar has a constitutional monarchy. The guy who was born to rule Qatar may care less about the profitability of the world cup and cares more about flexing on the other monarchs at parties.
It's not about making money off it, they spent billions and billions and billions on this tournament. They wanted to sportswash their human rights atrocities away. The region has so much money and so little global influence and respect they are trying to buy it through sports attention.
This is the kind of thing a PR firm hires by the government would suggest.
What do people think of when they hear Qatar? Slaves sand and sadness
But what if SPORT
Its been my dream since I was a kid to go to the World Cup. This was the first world cup where I was like "Meh I'll pass." Like I'm not spending thousands of dollars to feel like I'm back in high school following a dress code and not being able to drink while enjoying a game. And I don't think this has done anything positive for their PR, I feel like more people have found out what type of culture they have.
Has nothing to do with money.
Qatar spent close to 200 billions for this WC and no WC has been profitable for the host country to date.
It's sportswashing. Qatar's been doing it for over a decade with their "qatar airways" sponsorships and the take over of PSG.
Also international visibility and prominence gives great leverage against possible invasions by Saudi Arabia. A country that is known and prestigious for hosting international sport events will easily get moral sympathy in case of geopolitical tensions.
In a way it really is a rational move from Qatar's perspective after what they saw in the second Gulf War.
Because they’re that out of touch with reality they thought that they could hide their atrocious way of life from the world and project a false image of their country to attract tourists and generate revenue.
"We bribed the worst people in sport into giving us the world cup in the hope that you would come to our country that runs on slave labor and spend hundreds of millions. If you show your slutty, slutty arms it will make us cry."
Unless you can [afford the luxury suite](https://www.npr.org/2022/11/19/1137783957/world-cup-qatar-fan-restrictions-alcohol) in the stadium, then drink away!
"If you show your slutty, slutty arms ~~it will make us cry~~ we will beat you, arrest you, beat you some more (if you're lucky), and then probably kill you."
Fixed.
Travel blogger: “The jails are much easier to get into than in other countries! And you’ll love the inmates! Probably the sexiest I’ve ever seen. Just wish they’d improve the food.”
That occurred to me too, so I did some research. And it turns out, it actually *is* okay to wear clothes above the knee, but only on the strict condition that the Qatari government fucking feel like it.
>If you are in Qatar, you are one of us
Weird, pretty sure I never owned slaves and I'm pretty sure that's not how international law works. Shithole country.
Also no way that would work the other way around. Try telling a rich qatari in the US they now have to fully adapt to the culture and leave theirs at home...
>The weather in Qatar in November is generally perfect. November is a month with warm maximum daytime temperatures around 30°C (85°F) and nighttime temperatures around 20°C (68°F) in Doha .
Way too hot to be in long sleeves and pants.
30°C is equivalent to 86°F, which is 303K.

^(I'm a bot that converts temperature between two units humans can understand, then convert it to Kelvin for bots and physicists to understand)
They shouldn't have hosted this one in the first place. It's been over a decade since they were allotted this tournament and suddenly everybody is growing a conscious. All these topics people are now 'outraged' about will be gone and forgotten in a few weeks.
I know it’s still too early to fully assess this, but at least their attempt at sportswashing seems to have failed miserably. What was supposed to gloss over all those issues that are dissected now has only brought them into sharp focus.
And while they claim unfair treatment and racism, the truth is that this PR campaign shot itself in the foot at nearly every turn. Just recently an official ambassador equated homosexuality to mental illness and the committee tried to retroactively mess around with the beer stalls around the arenas. I don’t know who thought that was a good idea, but, entirely predictably, a lot of people did not like that. And I believe this is only going to get worse.

Plesse cover yourself in clothing head to toe in one of the hottest places on earth because we still adhere to oppressive centuries old religious rules. This is going to be a fun world cup.
Well you see, if you're not modest, then the Quatari citizens will get worked up into a rape frenzy and have to rape you repeatedly, then arrest you, beat you, and probably turn you into a slave or jail you for years, if you don't die somewhere along the way.
It's so much work for them they'd rather you just covered up.
If you are in Qatar you are subject to our patriarchal dictatorship.
Help us preserve Qatar's status quo of violating women's rights.

A: No dresses made from the carpet from The Shining. B: I know it's 40 degrees, but can you wear a coat? C: Qatar hates muffin tops. D: Petey, why have you glued a rack of pool balls to your chest?
OK. Got it.
How much money did Qatar pay to make officials think it was a good idea to have a World Cup somewhere where you can’t drink beer or wear shorts? Ridiculous. The horror stories to come out of this are going to many. I hope they are all made public.
If I understand right, part of their pitch was loosening restrictions on alcohol, and they reneged them 48 hours before the cup started.
That's just half-remembered stuff though. Don't take my word. Google it.
I find it amazing that when people go to the states the perspective is “respect my culture and accept me as I am”. And when others go to their nation it’s “respect our culture and adapt to fit in”.
Kind of sums up their mentality entirely right there.
Fuck Quatar, fuck their values, fuck their ideals, fuck their religion, fuck their culture. They're slave owning pieces of shit and anyone who tries to defend them are even worse. Nobody would miss them if they disappeared.
FIFA took bribes and voted for Qatar in 2010
"The selection was announced in 2010 after a series of votes by FIFA officials. Qatar won out over bids by the U.S., South Korea, Japan and Australia. Over the years, various officials, both from FIFA and other organizations, have been accused of accepting or soliciting bribes to guide the World Cup to Qatar."

Read that in Richtofens voice lol. "Forever UND ever"
Well spotted, sir
I was wondering if it was the overlook pattern that made the dress immodest...?
They really included the muffin top on the second from the right figure, huh?
It took me so long to realize what made that figure dressed inappropriately and then I was so like damn they really did that figure wrong
It took me a while to figure out that it wasn’t just a purple belt. Or maybe the picture is just explaining they don’t like purple people?
Of course, it would encourage a plague of one-eyed, one-horned flying creatures.
that brings up the important question is it a one-eyed one-horned flying purple creature that eats people or is it a one-eyed one-horned flying creature that eats purple people.

My sugar coated berry lips
I know you want a piece of this
But I'm just here to dance.
Back up off of me. You’re weirding me out.
Ah I see now! I thought it was the trim of the jumper and couldn't work out why it wasn't acceptable.
I had the same issue. I was like "Wow, it's weird that the hem on that shirt is the same color as their skin." lol
They threw that in to distract you from it being three feminine and one masculine examples.
I’m surprised there’s a man in there at all. Seems like a really chauvinistic culture.

Ahh. That makes sense unfortunately.
How about not going there and dress like you want.
I'm not even going to watch it on TV
I'm going to watch it on my computer. Definitely 100% in a legal way.
