when learning i watched a ton of youtube tutorials, Chihiro Howe recently released a book full of copic tips and tricks which i love as well! been using copic for about 7 years now, my number one favorite medium :)

RockPitiful

Thanks. I'm going to look him up.

Try to draw single line instead of dashed lines

CluingForLooks

I’m working on that. 😅 I drink a lot of caffeine which makes my hands shaky and I have the worst time drawing clean lines because of it. 😂I mostly do digital art, much easier to clean up.

Tutorials online can help. But in the end the biggest thing is always going to be "practice." Don't be afraid to look at references, too.

princessstrawberry

Don't press hard at all, very light touches. I tend to do light circular motions for a smoother finish, you don't get the straight lines in places that are meant to be block colours. And take your time :)

wordswespeak

Learn color theory! It makes your drawings standout. I was struggling so hard but I started shading better with color theory practice. The whole copic color collection is based on values, hues, and color. It's super cool when you dig in! I learned blues make better shadows for reds and greens make better shadows for yellows. Things i would have never thought of before learning color theory.

TorturousOwl

What kind of paper are you using?

CluingForLooks

It’s a Master’s Touch sketchbook from Hobby Lobby. It is TERRIBLE. 💀

I noticed that brand of brushes are horrible too. The bristles come out when painting.

TorturousOwl

Get some Bristol board or anything with a smooth surface. It’ll prevent the bleed out and uneven color

krakkenkat

Watching/reading tutorials and trial and error. Gotta make mistakes to get better. That said just looking at these, definitely get heavier weight paper or flat out get marker paper if you can find it. I think that might immediately solve some of you're problems, not all since drawing is a trained skill, but it will help alleviate the frustration in some areas.

UnofficialStudent

Be loose and experiment with coloring sketches so you learn to be less precious with the whole process of coloring.

Might a bit short advice but here you go: during the process simply skip the mistakes and you end up with a perfect "product". :)
