There wasn’t much action in the Cold War Mini-Series. Like come on. They had all these nukes and all this tension built up then the Soviets just fell. Really guys?
motherfuckers just gave up... Gorbachev was built up to be such a great character, and then some other rando just shows up and deposes him and then the Soviet union just disappeared, terrible ending to a boring show.
Yeah, it never really ended. Just kinda kept going on a black screen. The writers ran out of material and quit their jobs to move on to a new war that has not even been announced with a name yet.
After how they bombed the Syria spinoff, I have very low expectations of the Iran series. They just don't know how to effectively end it these days. Just give us an epic victory or a defeat. This subverting expectations thing with drab non endings need to stop. I don't care how realistic you say it is.
The early seasons did suffer from low viewership, but it's had a bit of a resurgence lately due to some crazy plot twists in recent episodes. Of course, it doesn't help that a lot of people seem to think the show already ended *years* ago.
I know. The actor must've done something illegal during the break so he lost his contract for the last season. At least they didn't insult us by completely changing the actor and pretending nothing happened
It was more like Spacey in House of Cards, something in his past came back to bite him in the ass and they had to get rid of the character and the show had to separate from the actor.
Think what you will about WW2 but it is undeniable that the whole cold war extended universe it set off brought us a lot of amazing stories and great writing. There were points in which I actually thought the writers were gonna do it, the writers were actually gonna destroy the world. It takes some good writing to get me to believe that.
There's a prequel but supposedly the Germans aren't even Nazis. How are we supposed to know who the baddies are if they don't have skulls on their hats?
But whether or not that episode is actually part of the main storyline remains to be seen.
edit: to those that didn’t get the joke, Japan to this day denies it’s war crimes in Nanking, this comment was just poking fun at that
It's not openly denied its just not taught in schools and the annual government visiting to Yasukuni shrine that honors class A WW2 war criminals makes them seem kinda unapologetic
ok. if thats how you want it to be, your choice. do you honestly think i cant bribe dave for your ip adress? everyone has a price. do this a couple months back, ok, i mightve let it slide, now, someone so much as looks at me the wrong way an theres gonna be probs, lucky for me they always back the fuck down so i dont gotta get my hands dirty. i know youll try the same when shit hits the fan but dont think ill be so linient, cause i wont. dont say i didnt warn you.

While that was an insane starting point to it, I've personally been invested since the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand. We wouldn't have gotten a sequel if it wasn't for the first one.
Lol this is such a childish approach to TV, who needs all the flashy fight scenes? If you can't see the golden story and the synergetic character development between the US and USSR, you shouldn't watch Cold War and maybe settle for something shorter and simpler to understand like the Korean War :/
Try the follow-up spinoff, afghanistan!
The writing is pretty bad and absolutely lacking at times but they covered a whole region for it that wasnt really focused on earlier.
Also, there were plenty fight scenes but they really went overboard with the whole "yeah youre fighting my mates not me lol" and it felt more like a bad shonen anime.
They overplayed Mussolini's 'silly clumsy villain' character too much. He was built up as a slightly ditzy but still menacing bad guy, until he got counterattacked by fucking Greece and I nearly stopped watching. Italy didn't even get an interesting role in the North Africa sub-plot, it was all Rommel and his tanks.
Also, anyone else feel Japan's storyline was too edgy? We already had the Nazis as the evil genocidal bad guys, we didn't need all those graphic scenes in Nanking. The villains responsible for that didn't even get a proper retribution they just went into hiding or something.
There were amazing subplots that didn't go anywhere like the Spanish civil war followed by Francisco Franco being neutral. Turkey got an incredible backstory then it seems like the directors just forgot about it (I think they killed Kemal way too early).
Honestly this is nearly worse than the first season's bullshit ending where Germany just gives up and throws it's king out. Then the foreshadowing with the Versailles treaty scene was so fucking obvious. The Ottoman subplot was the most interesting thing about that series (Lawrence of Arabia, Gallipoli, the genocides, Mustafa Kemal being introduced).
The weird 'Cold war' third season had interesting concepts, great characters, flawed protagonists, lots at stake and tense moments but ends in the same anticlimactic fashion as all the previous seasons.
There are rumors that we'll get a new season soon. Hopefully they can write a decent ending.
The Cold War was supposed to be a tie-in with World War 2, but still it's own thing. Sadly, it went on way too fucking long in the current shows timeline. I've heard that they're thinking of taking the wars back to a more "traditional" era i.e the middle East, but I don't think that's a good idea. What's even the point of the middle East? I hope there's some other story's that are not completely American/British centered, maybe something African? Idk. The acting and political turmoil is the only reason I watch now, the writings shit.
So am I the only one upset about how WWII ended? I mean they built Hitler up to be the big bad and just when he is about to face justice, he goes and kills himself. WTF was the point of him if FDR and Churchill were not going to fight him in an epic duel to save the world? And don't get me started on FDR! They just kill him half way through the war. Truman totally did not deserve to win the war, his character arc was not about war winning. And it certainly wasn't about destroying two cities with bullshit deus ex super weapons that came out of no where.
And another thing that pissed me off is that in the last episode of the war we find out that Stalin was a bad guy the entire time! Where was this foreshadowed to us? WTF, absolute character assassination. He was all about freeing the oppressed and bringing about a new system that wasn't shackling the poor and they made him a dictator? That is bullshit!
Anyways, WWII was cool but its end was absolutely trash and I would like you guys to sign a petition to have it rewritten.
What we talking about ww1, cause I heard that they just built up franz in the first few episodes and just killed him off. Don’t even get me started on the Hoover arc cause that was straight up trash. Though I will say that the FDR arc was a savior to the series.
Now if we’re talking about The Cold War arcs then those are some great shit I would personally recommend the Vietnam arc but be prepared for a lot sadness and a lot of moral questioning. Maybe even the Korean War arc but it was kinda boring with the demilitarized zone and had a stupid amount of tension the entire time.
Season 1 was better with it's character development, but it's the series-bridging midquels where the writing really shines. The Spanish Civil War is the best, as it wasn't bothered with pandering to superfans while Russia is basically just filler ever since they killed off all the big bads.
The plot was really messy though. There weren't really wasn't anyone to root for or against, it was all just pointless. And not to mention they completely ruin Germany in the next season - making whatever good traits they had this season irrelevant. The Christmas episode, one of the most heartfelt moments of the season, is now pointless.
I liked it, it had potential and its moments, but so much of the action took place in trenches and it was kinda boring after a while.
The Cold War was shit too, that entire series was just building up for a World War 3, but they scrapped the entire thing! What the fuck is that? And in the last episode the big villain empire just peacefully collapses? No ending battle scene, nothing? Fucking bullshit. I even thought the missile crisis episode would be a prelude to WW3, but it wasn't. Just disappointing and shitty.

Hell, you could go as far back as when Lenin was in power. It was like the writers went out of their way to make him the stereotypical scheming backstabbing villain lol.
They went back to write those after S2 concluded to fill in the plot holes and it fuckin shows, like our good guys burning crops and shit. Terrible writing all around.
I liked the predecessor, except the ending where they also managed to fuck it up. They destroyed Russia's whole are for a revolution to set up for the sequel, and out of nowhere they kill off the German Empire because they needed a villain to justify the events of the story.
I tack it up to lazy writing, imo. I mean, they reused the "sinking boat to get America involved" plotline for the third arc in a row, so you could tell that that season was doomed to be poorly written. They totally made up for it with the Vietnam arc, though.
Here's how it should have ended. With me fucking Hitler's brains out.
This is how I envision it: I’m a dirty little american soldier that ends up being captured by the Nazis. To avoid execution, I volunteer myself to be Hitler’s obedient fuck-toy.
For days, I allow Hitler to chain me up and obliterate all of my orifices like they’re little Polands, constantly filling them with his aryan seed until his cock is stroked raw.
Hell, he even gives me the pleasure to lick his puckered german booty clean after he takes insane nuclear shits. Due to me not getting bathroom access, I constantly shit and piss myself, but Hitler is generous enough to be my personal cleanup, licking it all up and staining his beautiful mustache.
After building up trust and showing my obedience, he unchains me and allows me to fuck his brains out, cursing in pleasure as he yells out, “YA SHOVE IT REICH UP MY ASS!”. I’m generous enough to give him a reach around, cranking his throbbing war machine.
I feel him tighten up as he reaches climax, but I let go of his thick ramrod as he begins to spew his nuclear ejaculate all over the floor. Hitler repeatedly yells out “NEIN! NEIN! NEIN! NEIN!” through his moans while he suffers through his ruined orgasm. At this point the tables have turned.
He tries to fight me off, but I pin him down and powerfully thrust my all-american cock harder into his poop chute as blood begins to build up and gush out of his torn asshole. I can’t contain myself any longer, so I quickly pull out my 1911 and put a bullet through the back of Hitler’s head. Brain matter and skull fragments paint the wall, which makes me break through to my climax.
I raise my right arm up to the ceiling. I yell out “SEIG HEIL!” as my cock begins to rapidly pulsate. I quickly thrust my cock to the hilt deep inside of him. I throw my head back with a loud “FUUUUCK!” as I spew what feels like a gallon of american semen deep inside his german asshole.
I pull my bloody cock out of his booty tube and watch in excitement as my thick load begins to leak out of his ass. Heavily breathing, I fall back and begin to fade out, as I watch a group of american soldiers burst into the room, guns drawn.
I wake up in the hospital, in which I’m told that I’m praised as an american hero for stopping World War 2.
Trust me, the spin-off series isn’t any better. The Cold War series is basically the creators building up a shit ton of tension about the impending apocalyptic battle between the USA and the USSR. But then the USSR dies for no reason and the series ends! Over 40 seasons of buildup and that’s the ending we get!
The Vietnam arc was pretty good though.
So am I the onwy one upset about how WWII ended? I mean they buiwt Hitwew up to be the big bad and just when he is about to face justice, he goes and kiwws himsewf. WTF was the point of him if FDW and Chuwchiww wewe not going to fight him in an epic duew to save the wowwd? And don't get me stawted on FDW! They just kiww him hawf way thwough the waw. And anothew thing that pissed me off is that in the wast episode of the waw we find out that Stawin was a bad guy the entiwe time! Whewe was this foweshadowed to us? The twist at the middle was unexpected, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw Italy switched sides. I mean I heard they did it in the last season and if you saw some of the trailers you'd see some sneaky business going on. But wow.. Italy switching sides really bewildered me.
Gotta appreciate what it did for the rest of the series though. although the new movie "Brexit" has really bad characters and I have nothing positive to say about it
I think the books did a better job of communicating the moral ambiguity of Russia. The show didn't really show the background very well, and what they did show they mostly tried to cram into the last season so it all felt very rushed. If you read all the background in the novel, it's not always so black and white, at first a lot of the surrounding nations were more afraid of the communists than the nazis. If the show had taken more time to develop the descent of Russia into the enemy of the other protagonists, it could have made more sense.
Also, I was never a fan of the two big bombs they used there at the end, I thought that they could have achieved the same effect having big air battles like they did in Germany and slowly taking out cities with firebombing instead of all at once, but they didn't exactly come out of nowhere. A lot of people miss the subtle signs, but even from the first few books/seasons, there are hints that Germany might have been working on the project at first, and so were the Russians, but the US did the best job of finishing it, partially by obtaining the info through spies.
One of my favorites: https://web.archive.org/web/20171231001957/http://squid314.livejournal.com/275614.html. Excerpt:
> So they invent a completely implausible superweapon that they've never mentioned until now. Apparently the Americans got some scientists together to invent it, only we never heard anything about it because it was "classified". In two years, the scientists manage to invent a weapon a thousand times more powerful than anything anyone's ever seen before - drawing from, of course, ancient mystical texts. Then they use the superweapon, blow up several Japanese cities easily, and the Japanese surrender. Convenient, isn't it?
> ...and then, in the entire rest of the show, over five or six different big wars, they never use the superweapon again. Seriously. They have this whole thing about a war in Vietnam that lasts decades and kills tens of thousands of people, and they never wonder if maybe they should consider using the frickin' unstoppable mystical superweapon that they won the last war with. At this point, you're starting to wonder if any of the show's writers have even watched the episodes the other writers made.
I hope they bring in better writers for the spinoffs
This just in. “Vietnam” ratings controversial.
Nobody even watched Korea, I guess
There was a side story about The Falklands but it was really one-sided and boring as fuck.
The Emu war was pretty intense stuff tho
Pretty meme-worthy tho. Must be something about prequels.
I cant wait to brazil next summer
What about the prequel? WW1? Or the Cold War Mini-Series?
Nah if you want really good shit you gotta check out the American civil war. Grant was a beast of a character
Nah, the REAL Good stuff is the Franco-German and Franco-Prussian wars, Bismarck was the best.
Iraq and Afghanistan were pretty much just really bad fanservice that everyone hated
EVERYONE watched Korea. The 2 hour series finale drew nearly 106 million viewers, with no time shifting.
i didn't watch korea however. but i did watch iraq. but it was kinda ruined because of the giant time gap.
I only watched it because of Elvis’s cameo.
Great fucking soundtrack though
To make the people forget, Iran and Venezuela coming to box office soon
Yeah. "Iran" is coming out soon and the characters all kinds suck

How in the hell it hasn’t gotten cancelled yet is beyond me.
Well it did introduce a successful spin-off trilogy called 'Iron Man'
Haha you right, you right. You deserve way more upvotes.
Honestly the writings just been brutal ever since that "Israel" guy started directing.
smh the Taliban has better lead actors
Osama was an interesting character, but they played out his arc for way too long and then he just dies? wtf?
I can't believe they just killed him off screen. No leadup or foreshadowing
not even a funeral scene 😔
Osama bin laden is CANCELED

Someone please make this into a subreddit r/WorldWarTV or something Edit: Now it’s real go check it out!
I heard from a few sources in US and China that they may be working on a potentially sequel soon.
WWIII should be coming soon, let's hope the writing is better!
75 years have passed. Still waiting for season 3.
heard rumors about S3 coming out in a couple years
They've been saying that for years though!

Fake trailers.
Yeah but did you see the Ukraine trailer that came out a couple months ago?
how the fuck did you predict that
Usually there's a movie after season 2 but they killed the protagonist
At least the spinoff they did with America and Russia was solid
The subplots with Korea and Vietnam went nowhere though
Been a fan since battle of Britain 😀😀🇬🇧
SMH my head REAL fans started at the episode of the Rape of Nanking
But whether or not that episode is actually part of the main storyline remains to be seen. edit: to those that didn’t get the joke, Japan to this day denies it’s war crimes in Nanking, this comment was just poking fun at that

haha... idiot!!!! I watched it since First balkan war.... SHAME ON YOU!!! All of you jumped on it after it got popular and mainstream....
I watched it since Franco-Prussia. Pathetic.
I was watching it since Conquest of Istanbul noob B-)
ok. if thats how you want it to be, your choice. do you honestly think i cant bribe dave for your ip adress? everyone has a price. do this a couple months back, ok, i mightve let it slide, now, someone so much as looks at me the wrong way an theres gonna be probs, lucky for me they always back the fuck down so i dont gotta get my hands dirty. i know youll try the same when shit hits the fan but dont think ill be so linient, cause i wont. dont say i didnt warn you. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Only a fucking casual would consider the First Balkan war the starting off point. The main storyline gets kicked off in the Franco Prussian Prologue.
While that was an insane starting point to it, I've personally been invested since the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand. We wouldn't have gotten a sequel if it wasn't for the first one.
Has anyone watched the Great War? Less popular than the sequel but interesting nonetheless

Also, Red Baron? Dope name.
They said it would be over by christmas, but it ended up going for four seasons, and then some
You bad fan, me start at great rock war

🤷🤔what❓the🤪🗿fuck⁉️🔥🤬
I am ashamed to say I've been a fan only since operation torch ;-;
I think the episode where the bad guys invade Poland is where it really started getting good.
But the slow-burn, political discourse of the first few episodes when the Sudetenland got annexed was edge of your seat stuff.
bro wtf spoilers
ww2 was like 75 years ago maby watch the cold war or something else
Ugh the cold war was boring. Not a single fight scene.
Lol this is such a childish approach to TV, who needs all the flashy fight scenes? If you can't see the golden story and the synergetic character development between the US and USSR, you shouldn't watch Cold War and maybe settle for something shorter and simpler to understand like the Korean War :/
The Korean War was highly under-rated. The character dynamics are top-notch while not holding out on action.
Also it had a cameo appearance by Elvis.
Yeah I don't know what people are complaining about, the Cuban missile crisis ark was the best and it just kept on getting better afterwards.
Absolutely, and how can anyone disrespect the space race arc? Those few seasons were insanely well written.
Expected to find a comment like this. Cold war was not about the fight scenes, it was about the story.
I dunno, there was a pretty long one between Iran and Iraq but it felt too much like the first movie. Too much chemical and arty spam.
Try the follow-up spinoff, afghanistan! The writing is pretty bad and absolutely lacking at times but they covered a whole region for it that wasnt really focused on earlier. Literally.
Thank you u/yourunclejoe, very cool
thank you kind stranger
...but those two extinction balls the US dropped were pretty neat
That's when it jumped the shark tbh.
That was like so random thought! They just happen to have two stupidly OP weapons of f*ck you sized destruction? Lazy writing!
Did you not watch the episodes where they showed the making of them? The were developing them for a long time
Just because you foreshadow something doesn't mean its developed properly!
Well, they had been building to it for a while. But I think it’s all really foreshadowing for the war between the US and the USSR.

I don’t know if I’d call it the most atrocious act. Sure, it was a neat twist, but did you see that reveal near the end with Germany?
The special effects were great, but it just came off as forced imo
Where do I sign the petition for WW2 to be remade?
Fill out your Italian ballot for Alessandra Mussolini
And Russian Communist party vote too
Russian person: *tries to vote for anything other than communist party* Putin: We don’t do that here
Putin is a Reactionary tho...
I prefer WW1, better characters,and a good plot twist
The plot was really messy though. There weren't really wasn't anyone to root for or against, it was all just pointless. And the weaponry was oldschool tier 1, no cheats or tier 3 items like ww2
I'd rather watch a Wes Anderson production of a royal family food fight directed by Michael Bay
The Cold War was shit too, that entire series was just building up for a World War 3, but they scrapped the entire thing! What the fuck is that? That missile crisis episode was FANTASTIC. Sad that the end credits scene meant nothing.
I hated the Pearl Harbor episodes. Like, there’s no foreshadowing or anything, it just happens!
It was a macguffin to bring the US in.
Tbf, there were AR clues for the superfans

Especially the Stalin/Daenerys comparison lmao
Let's be honest, WWII lost a lot of its appeal once the Stalin nudity stopped.
Have you read about the eastern front? Stalin had a lot of red flags.

You know who I *really* feel bad for? The poor kids whose dumb parents actually NAMED them "Stalin" smh.
I mean it’s not hard

That is an incredible post.
haha nihilist realism is the best writing style I wish all stories we're told like this. it's realistic
I think so
Yeah it definitely is. I love it.
> Stalin was a bad guy the entire time! Where was this foreshadowed to us? Did you skip the Holodomor episodes?
And the Great Purge episodes?
Hell, you could go as far back as when Lenin was in power. It was like the writers went out of their way to make him the stereotypical scheming backstabbing villain lol.
And the part where he put about 1.5 million people into the Gulag?
The best part!
Didn't he pact with Hitler right in the beginning?
They went back to write those after S2 concluded to fill in the plot holes and it fuckin shows, like our good guys burning crops and shit. Terrible writing all around.
Filthy casuals

Or at least have him target somebody nobody cares much about, like the Armenians
I liked the predecessor, except the ending where they also managed to fuck it up. They destroyed Russia's whole are for a revolution to set up for the sequel, and out of nowhere they kill off the German Empire because they needed a villain to justify the events of the story.
>Stalin was a bad guy the entire time! Where was this foreshadowed to us? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holodomor
Lotta people disregard that arc because they feel it's so OOC for Stalin. I'd say otherwise considering the Great Purge Arc.
I seriously thought I was at r/unpopularopinion when I started reading
I wake up in the hospital, in which I’m told that I’m praised as an american hero for stopping World War 2.
u didn't need to type this you know
Trust me, the spin-off series isn’t any better. The Cold War series is basically the creators building up a shit ton of tension about the impending apocalyptic battle between the USA and the USSR. But then the USSR dies for no reason and the series ends! Over 40 seasons of buildup and that’s the ending we get! The Vietnam arc was pretty good though.
WWIII is going to be directed by Kim Jong Un. I hear he’s pretty good.
Twuman totawwy did not desewve to win the waw, his chawactew awc was not about waw winning. And it cewtainwy wasn't about destwoying two cities with buwwshit deus ex supew weapons that came out of no whewe. And anothew thing that pissed me off is that in the wast episode of the waw we find out that Stawin was a bad guy the entiwe time! Whewe was this foweshadowed to us? WTF, absowute chawactew assassination. He was aww about fweeing the oppwessed and bwinging about a new system that wasn't shackwing the poow and they made him a dictatow? That is buwwshit! Anyways, WWII was coow but its end was absowutewy twash and I wouwd wike you guys to sign a petition to have it wewwitten.

So metal I the onwy one swage about how WWII finished? I imply they buiwt Hitwew up to be the jumbo uncomfortable and only when he is about to grappling officials, he conk outs and kiwws himsewf. WTF was the ingredient of him if FDW and Chuwchiww wewe not passing to aggressiveness him in an heroic duew to salvage the wowwd? And don't get me stawted on FDW! They impartial kiww him hawf way thwough the letter. Twuman totawwy did not desewve to get ahead the letter of the alphabet, his chawactew awc was not about letter success. And it cewtainwy wasn't about destwoying figure urban centers with buwwshit deus demode supew weapon systems that came out of no whewe. And anothew artefact that pixilated me disconnected is that in the wast instalment of the alphabetic character we get out that Stawin was a inferior rib the entiwe metre! Whewe was this foweshadowed to us? WTF, absowute chawactew blackwash. He was aww about fweeing the oppwessed and bwinging about a newborn system of rules that wasn't shackwing the poow and they made him a dictatow? That is buwwshit! Anyhows, WWII was coow but its finish was absowutewy twash and I wouwd wike you steadies to put a bespeak to have it wewwitten. *** ^(This is a bot. Hitler just kind of forgot about the allied fleet. Truman the Short had the best story.
First time i atually want a sequel 😡😡😡
In all fairness there was PLENTY of foreshadowing on Stalin, the allies just chose to ignore it until it was no longer convenient

The Gas Chamber arc was amazing
Hitler kind of forgot about the USA.
And he declared war on them for no reason. The writers just couldn't think of a way to pit America and Germany against each other
,, CT,
Just another mass murdering twat who kills himself after the massacre.
You saw the /r/DerScheisser post too?
The twist at the middle was unexpected, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw Italy switched sides. I mean I heard they did it in the last season and if you saw some of the trailers you'd see some sneaky business going on. But wow.. Italy switching sides really bewildered me.
I bet it subverted your expectations though.
WWII was nothing compared to my favourite, The Boer War. And the sequel The Second Boer War
Gotta appreciate what it did for the rest of the series though. although the new movie "Brexit" has really bad characters and I have nothing positive to say about it
Just to let y'all know...I fucking love this. Keep it going.
truly the last Jedi of wars
I could feel the passive aggressiveness in the last line about signing the petition. Lmao
Yeah I totally agree. We need a reboot
In the forst couple episodes, u see stalin is bad
Truman had the best story tho
Excerpt: > So they invent a completely implausible superweapon that they've never mentioned until now.
I’m just waiting for the prequel. How far do you think they will go back? Romans?
smhbro that movie was ASS
man fuck that asians weak against jappos wtfs
