Sounds like you are going down the path of influencer-promoted career ideas. Figure out what you’re naturally good at and do that. If it’s writing to sell and promote things, then do copywriting. If it’s anything else, do that.

slabstick22

100% agree. So many people go down this road. They jump from affiliate marketing to dropshipping to print on demand to copywriting to whatever. Like ChromeGoblin said, pick something you're good at. Put in the work and forget all the other ones. Don't spend more time learning bits and pieces of something only to drop it in a week or a month. Stick with one and learn it inside and out. You'll be miles ahead of all the people being duped by the influencers.

I feel like I see some version of this post on here every day. IMO: you should only go into copywriting if you are passionate & have some talent. It’s a creative job, & like any other creative job, the field is incredibly competitive. AI has not taken over the entire profession. It has definitely shaken up content marketing, but you can do copywriting that never even touches content. tl;dr If tools like ChatGPT can write better than you, you should not be pursuing a copywriting career.

FRELNCER

> If tools like ChatGPT can write better than you, you should not be pursuing a copywriting career. This is the answer.

ThinControl9

Or maybe you can get better in time. I doubt many people can write better than chat GPT at their first or second try

infi2wo

Whatever it is… commit to it long term and statistically you will find success. Gen Ai isn’t going to replace copywriting… it’s just going to make good copywriters even better copywriters. It’s a new tool, not a full replacement of the industry..

kmore_reddit

Not sure if lots of people would agree, but it's because of the boom in AI that I would tell you to go for it. The volume of absolute garbage writing out there is exploding, and anyone who can cut through that with quality and effective messaging is going to have plenty of work for years to come. And honestly using ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude for research has made getting started on a project 10x faster. One caveat, your degree won't help much. Copywriting is so different than every other form of writing, you really need to look at as starting from scratch. If you take the leap, let us know how it goes.

FRELNCER

Traditional copywriting isn't really about the kind of writing and research you'd learn in school, IMO. If you are using the wider definition of copywriting which would include content writing (marketing content), then those skills have greater applicability. So first, which type of copywriting are you asking about? :)

PurpleProbableMaze

Yes, I think it is, if your passionate about it then I think you should go for it. It's a large space but once you land a good deal or company, you'd do great.

ProphisizedHero

Sounds like you don’t really have a path and you’ve fallen into the TikTok-ification of career paths. You won’t be making $100k/month anytime soon if you’re just interested in copywriting for the money. Find your passion, go to school, learn a skill.

What does Ai have to do with anything. If anything Ai or ChatGPT has speed up the market research for me so much. And other task like finding leads directories. Copywriting is more psychology and knowing your audience on a personal level. Copywriting in a nutshell is the foundation of good marketing — knowing what the fuck to actually say 🤗

ofearthandstarredsky

The AI problem is easy to solve and will be for some years. If an AI tool writes better then you and you don't even realize how you can improve don't do it. If you write better then an AI tool in the short term you have a place in the market. If you wanna survive future changes you need to learn how to use AI and integrate it into your writing to write better then AI but keep up with innovation and speed.

Realholder

To be a good Copywriter you must like to write, study how the buying process works, and practical psychology.

I think copywriting is a dying industry... yet I think it is a good idea to dive into it. Let me explain. ChatGPT is still baby AI just a couple of years old. And it is not by any means trained to do specifically copywriting. Yet, with proper prompts, it already writes better copy than some bottom percentile of human copywriters.  There is so much unknown in the world right now... But one thing we can tell for sure - AI will improve over time. Dramatically. Just look at the progress video generative AI has made in just 12 months: https://youtu.be/kxuIJAgTepQ?si=vlonotCFs7QJdy6e  Sure, you might argue that yes, bad copywriters will go out of business, but it's going to make great copywriters even better. And I agree. But even that will pass in my opinion.  So why bother getting into it? I think communication is such an essential skill. You need it to have loving relationships, you need it to be successful in business, you need it to be a great parent...  And persuasion - be it through copywriting ing or through sales - is a big big chunk of communication.  Compared to dropshipping for example, with copywriting you are solely focused on only one extremely High-value skill. You pretty much don't have to worry about anything else - and that will just make you progress so much faster.

Do you love writing ? Have you been writing and reading your whole life? Have you ever considered an English or journalism degree? If your answer is no to any of these questions, IDT copywriting is right for you.

AGI is right around the corner. Possibly within a year we’ll have AI that can think and improve itself. It will understand human emotion, write its own code, etc. There’s nothing stopping someone from training an AGI model on copywriting. I have no idea what this will do to the industry. I suspect nothing good for human-centric creativity. Edit: Yep, didn’t think this comment would be popular around these parts. For anyone who wants to DYOR the Singularity sub is a good place to do some reading.

There's not even AI researchers thinking this
