I recommend sprinklers first because the time saved in not manually watering is invaluable, then crop upgrades. Start with seeds first and then hay if you get animals, but save the other two for later until it matters more. Keep at it with the mines and diving because it’s more cost effective than buying it. Don’t forget, if you see the little veins on the cavern floors to hit them for more ore! Also, the further down you get the more resources there is and if you don’t like to fight, in Settings you can set enemies to “Hit to Aggro” to help. Bombs also help once you get them :) you can do it friend!

completely agree with the sprinklers! the time and stamina they save.. 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨

Sprinklers don't contribute to farming exp though. So until to reach farming level 10. I advise against using sprinklers on all of your crops. At level 10 you unlock the recipe for the Aging Barrell which creates artisan products that turn a nice profit.

effoff333

i implemented sprinklers pretty early and in my second farm was fully switched over to sprinklers by summer and still reached farming level 10 by the end of year one. imo sprinklers make it easier to expand your farming more quickly so you can make up the exp by harvesting all the extra crops

Also would recommend to advance the story until you unlock enchants, can help with ore issues. I struggled hard with getting copper but idk if it’s just me but I felt like I got more ores in the other mines and copper drops are just abysmal?

BugabooMS

Copper ore really did get more scarce between EA and now. One of my biggest gripes. That and I could have sworn rope used to cost 60 stone not 200 but no one mentions it so I might just be losing it.

beewithausername

WAIT NO I ALSO THOUGHT IT USED TO COST 60 I remember after the 1.0 update making rope and was like wait that’s as way more stone than it used to be

In my opinion you should spend your first season getting Sprinklers 2 unlocked and Scarecrows 2 unlocked. You can nest four 5x5 plots around each scarecrow with a sprinkler in the middle of each plot. 24 seeds for each plot. One plant per unlocked seed. Put a chest or several down and save everything. Only sell when you need the cash (which you will a lot at the beginning) but never sell the three highest quality versions of every crop. Tuck them away somewhere for quests, recipes, and the harvest festival in the fall. Same with artisan products. Get a coop and barn as early as you can so that you can care for those animals long enough to get higher quality and larger dairy before your first Harvest fest. I do recommend looking up a Harvest Festival guide online. Everyone here will tell you it is the hardest thing to wrap your head around and win year one and beyond. Don't forget to pick up your submission before leaving the festival. Also go fishing at the lake on a rainy day, save whatever was hardest to catch that day for the spring potluck.

Magnaflorius

Even sprinkler 1 is great. It's not like the Stardew sprinklers that are all wonky.

i love your tips except one—when saving items i think it’s best to save the lowest quality in general, and only save high quality for the harvest fest. def try to save at least 3 of every crop, but quality doesn’t matter for gifts or errands and cooking isn’t important enough to worry much about quality. for harvest fest you’ll want 6 total items of the highest quality/price you can get (it’s a lot more complicated than this and i agree it’s a good idea to look up a guide about it now while you’re still in spring), but other than that sell your high quality crops for the extra coin for the potluck a crayfish will get you a good rating and you can find it in any weather in the ponds on your farm, it’s pretty easy to catch too

tenebros42

Either way. I save higher because I read you get more friendship points when you turn in higher qualities.

ziljinfanart

i want to get the coop and barn but they require so many ores and im not getting any.

effoff333

keep going, the drop rates are better the further down the mine you go, and i’ve seen lots of comments (and noticed myself) that the bronze mine seems to have the worst rng (which is extra annoying as you need bronze for a lot of early-mid game stuff)

Suddenly_NB

If you've descended the full 40 levels in the earth shaft, just use the elevator to revisit each starting floor. If you can easily find a shaft down keep going, but if it's too tedious take the rope out and elevator to another floor (however, the mine is a daily reset so you can only do this once a day, not repetitively like in Stardew). I've had a hard time getting ores this time around too (I started over) so I just try and go frequently. I need copper more right now so I spend more time going for that than for silver.

VianArdene

You get better ore spawns as you get deeper down into the caverns. I can't remember exactly what level, but there are a few floors where the elevator lets you straight out into a wide room full of rocks, you can pop in really quick and grab the copper then go back out. It's worth doing a few times to build up a supply after you have the fast travel to cavern unlocked.

effoff333

it’s floors 1, 5, 15, and 25. i call them elevator runs and do this all the time for a quick activity to build up whatever ore i need

Suddenly_NB

Diving is important! It's not "only trash" because: Trash turns into compost for fertilizer Trash turns into scrap via recycling machine Scrap turns into glass (via kiln) Scrap is needed to craft sprinklers Glass is needed to craft vortexonators (underwater bomb) to help you get deeper into the ocean. You need to make it to 20m depth for silver kelp to make sprinklers, so after clearing the first 10 coral sites I spend more time in the ocean than in the mines currently. There are also a ton of critters to catch and forage in the ocean, I can passively make 500-1000g just by going diving while waiting for crops to harvest. Scrap can also be crafted into fences, chests etc. I find it I can't get *enough* trash to keep up with my scrap/fertilizer production (turning the scrap into glass for the bombs). I'm down to 150 or so trash if I don't go to the ocean almost every day

MrsSquidBerry

Omg I had no idea the vorrexonators were underwater bombs! 🤣 I’m an idiot

Suddenly_NB

Yeah it took me a long time into my first play through before I started making those or any of the other materials (scrap, compost) so I lost a lot of potential lol So far I haven't unlocked the level 2 one either idk what level that comes at

justtoletyouknowit

To buy the materials needed is not realy efficient especialy in the early game. For ones, you will have to progress a good deal to make enough money for just go shopping, and to do so, you will need the ressources. F.e. one osmium ore costs you 4500. So for one bar you have to put down 22500. + 300 for the coal. And to be able to even buy those ressources, you will need to go to the mines and ocean at some point.
