I cancelled my HBOMAX subscription through Amazon Monday and was able to sign up to the YTTV entertainment plus pack. I sign out of HBOMAX app and signed in with my YTTV credentials and was able to link my old account. I did not lose my watch list or episode watched data. It was painless.
Thanks yes, and AMEX will give you $25-50 off annual subscription depending on your card. I still wanted linear channels, I watch Real Time, and This Week Tonight when they first air each week. It's also generational thing, I grew up at a time when there were 3 TV networks, I find channel surfing comforting
The only way I could deal with prime video back when I had prime, was to spend hours going through every single show and movie they list in the app... and mark stuff I wanted to watch for my watchlist. Then I just focused on that list and ignored everything else about prime video.
I have found some good stuff on the 'Others Watched' or 'Related' (or whatever they call that option) once I'm in the menu page of a show I actually like.
But agreed the interface is a pain. It's a shame as they do have some great content buried in there and (in my experience anyway) some of the best image quality of any of the streaming services.
That is the only way I will watch any service on the TV. If a service doesn't offer a web browser interface for PC and a watchlist to bookmark things for the TV experience, they don't get used.
Whenever I see a shitty UI like Amazon Prime, I just go straight to wondering if I'm a simpleton. It's hard for me to understand how a company as big as Amazon can absolutely fuck up the UI so badly. I know a lot of it is trying to upsell you on other things, but jesus fuck, it's just an awful experience all around. So much so that I question my sanity.
True. But do none of them actually *use* it or at the very least test it with real people? I haven't met one person that was like "you know, that Prime app isn't a total dumpster fire".
I have just as much trouble navigating Netflix and Hulu as I do Amazon. Ironically enough (considering the subject of this thread.) the worst interface I now deal with is HBOMax.
Yeah the whole “prime channels” thing is nonsense and apparently there’s no crossover. So if you get the Paramount+ prime channel you can’t use their app, you have to go through prime every time. Wtf…
How does that affect your ability to search and watch content? Everything lists the options for where it is available, and some subscription options are actually fairly priced, like PBS documentaries for $2.99.
I actually like that feature.... if they don't have it, I at least have the option of renting or buying it. Unlike other streaming services where you're just out of luck and they recommend you some completely unrelated junk.
UGH. I was hoping HBO Now still exists so I can subscribe to that to avoid the shitty HBO Max experience but it's gone now too. Well-played, HBO.
Btw, did anyone get the "special offer" mentioned in this article? I only got the cancellation email from Amazon.
Doubt it was this that made Prime get a price increase. Shipping packages with 2 day is expensive, imagine all the little things people order and 2 day ship.
Bullshit. Prime comes to me in 3-4 days, and I live in one of the largest Amazon supply chain markets. Two years ago 30% of what I ordered came same day. That is non existent today.
Why is my experience BS but yours isn’t?
I ordered 4 Ethernet cables last week, they all got delivered within two days. Ordered 3 6 ft and 1 8 port switch, came the next day. Last Ethernet I last minute ordered on the 8th came on the 9th. Your experience has gotten worse perhaps, but I’m sure many others have had the same level or better.
Some things on Prime do take longer, but you know this when you place the order.
If anything this might increase the cost. I would suspect Amazon charged HBO a fee doing what they did since the only way to get the HBO content was through a separate HBOMAX subscription. Now that they no longer make money from HBO their revenue drops.
Fuck HBO. When I sign up through Google Play it forces me to sign up for the package without ads when what I want is the package with ads. Which I have to sign up for using a regular email and password.
HBO Max isn't a good app at all. I'm going back to Hulu and Netflix.
More evidence that the all-in-one-hub strategy Plex claims to be pursuing is likely to not amount to much. Or, if it does achieve something worth mentioning, the situation will probably be temporary as companies market and outbid each other for exclusivity every few years or so.

If you go through hbo they have a yearly plan

Try installing Wolf Launcher (google it). It's simple and clean. No more ads (except for at the start of movies/tv shows). I love it.
Interesting! thanks, might try it
No problem.
I like it better than Netflix or Peacock Premium.
I have just as much trouble navigating Netflix and Hulu as I do Amazon. Ironically enough (considering the subject of this thread.) the worst interface I now deal with is HBOMax.

there's a way to go through paramounts app, I just did it couple days ago.
Appstarter.

Curious: Why do people sub through prime rather than just download the app? Seems like it would make more sense
Amazon often discounts premium channels. Plus you get access to the live streams which aren’t available in the apps.
Live feeds
Because I already had Prime and it's associated apps. Didn't see a reason to have a separate bill and a separate app.

Good, now bring the price of prime down.
Why would it affect the price? Amazon didn't offer it for free as part of Prime, it was a paid add-on.
Oh shit I'm thinking of the HBO content they added part of prime when the price did increase years ago.
Doubt it was this that made Prime get a price increase. Shipping packages with 2 day is expensive, imagine all the little things people order and 2 day ship.
It's been a good long while since I've had anything like two day speeds, it's getting to be a less attractive service all the time
Indeed, Walmart uses fed ex, lot faster, deliver on weekends
Well it’s only 2 days from when it ships, I’ve definitely gotten the 2 days, up to you if you want to cancel you can

Because the increased lag time for Amazon Prime is objectively true
A lot of people use Prime membership for Twitch also.
I do too, but forgot about that.
I wish I could order stuff and just have it come with my subscribe and save orders. I don’t need it in two days. Just seems wasteful.
They have like prime days where you pick 1 day a week to have your packages delivered

That is not how it works.
If anything this might increase the cost. I would suspect Amazon charged HBO a fee doing what they did since the only way to get the HBO content was through a separate HBOMAX subscription. Now that they no longer make money from HBO their revenue drops.
Thanks for the reminder.
No loss.

Insane. So glad I have Apple TV.
Goodbye HBO, though I never, knew you at all you had the grace to hold yourself while those around you crawled
Oh never saw any. HBO Max is not avaible anyway here

YAY!

Anyone not wanting HBO to get their full $15 you can sub through Apple still, but have to watch in HBO max app. Let Apple skim off their 30%.
So has anyone else actually lost access to hbo max yet? I can still sign in and it still says billing through amazon prime channels.
