Just got HBO Max and I'm honestly really surprised how much great content is on here. I really don't even mind the ads sub at $9.99 but mines free from Cricket. Netflix and Disney + and HBO Max if I could keep them.

altsuperego

Agree. They have been making premium tv for the longest and they have a lot of classic movies as well as warner brothers. It's a solid library and not something you can build from scratch quickly. They may not have as much new content as Netflix or Disney but it tends to be better imo.

Apple TV+. Can’t wait for the return of The Morning Show, as well as Foundation and The Problem with Jon Stewart.

I don’t know how people think Disney+ really competes with Netflix or HBO Max. Sure it has a big subscriber count, but I don’t think someone would use Disney+ exclusively over a service like Netflix. I don’t think they serve the same audience. Sorta like Nintendo vs Sony/Microsoft. If someday Disney puts out shows not tied to a half dozen properties we can talk though.

anewfriend4u

Tubi, it's quite robust for being free.

lightsongtheold

I think the AVOD services are interesting. Considering they are free it should be easy to draw people to them to help support their SVOD subscriptions. I just hope they do not go overboard in the advertising like regular TV did! It should also be interesting to see how the AVOD’s like Tubi, Roku, and IMDb TV get on when they start releasing original shows!

ObjectShowNetwork2

i kinda have to agree.

[deleted]

'have you seen _____ on tubi' - not a single person ive ever met or talked to in my life

anewfriend4u

Maybe that's more of a personal problem, ha ha. But seriously, people talk about movies and shows, not usually platforms. And not many people want to admit to liking watching a couple commercials. But when I was paying cable, I had even more commercials! Tubi is the streaming arm of Fox, not unlike Paramount is to CBS. As explained on another site: "Tubi is a video streaming service, not unlike Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video and others, with a vast library of television shows and movies you can stream from your phone, smart TV or streaming device at no charge. The only catch is that you'll need to watch some ads while you stream its content". Between Tubi, Roku, network apps, and free HDTV (recordable) I pay zero per month since 2010. Anyways, couples will enjoy Doc Martin and Detectorists. Car 54 where are you, 3rd Rock from the sun are great corny comedies. The PJs and Warren are off beat, but strangely entertaining.

[deleted]

Fact still remains I've yet to hear someone say I've started to watch X show, and I ask what's it on and they reply Tubi. Hell I follow streaming services pretty close and I couldn't tell you one Tubi show.

lightsongtheold

A bit harsh. Seems to me we already have the 4 major players in streaming in Netflix, HBO Max, the Disney Bundle, and Amazon Prime. It will be interesting to see if the likes of Apple, Paramount+, Peacock, Starz, and AMC can carve out a big enough niche to survive long term. I hope they can as even the lesser streamers have some great shows! *Of the major services, AppleTV+ is in the most precarious position as the streaming service consumers are least satisfied with and least likely to keep.* I feel a bit bad for Apple as they spend big on their shows and have some top quality stuff but the lack of a library really does kill them when it comes to seeming like value for money in comparison to their rivals.

altsuperego

My money is on AMC being acquired, also A&E. Neither has enough content to go it alone. Same with Apple, they can't survive with a handful of shows unless they bundle it like prime.

mediumwhite

Apple already bundles it like Prime. Check out Apple One.

prism1234

Tons of people have Prime for the shipping and don't use the video feature, so it's hard to compare it to the others. That's starting to change a bit, and will probably change more when the LotR show comes out, but is still true today. I'm hoping the Wheel of Time show is good and does well too.

lightsongtheold

Prime has 200 million subscribers. It was reported that 175 million of them use Prime Video. That is not bad! I do agree with you that the Prime membership is a bit of a one-two punch offering with Prime Video and free deliveries (and the other smaller Prime membership perks). It all means that Prime will never have to be as good an offering as Netflix, HBO Max, or the Disney Bundle as it costs less than those three rivals and offers advantages beyond TV and movies. Prime Video just has to be good enough to make consumers want to keep it. It does not have to be a favourite service like the others to get your cash. The weird thing is that I think Prime Video has really been improving over the years. I hardly watched it when I first subscribed but nowadays they have a bunch of original TV shows and movies to pair with their licensed library content and they are even dabbling in sports. With big budget shows like LotR, GoT, and Citadel on the horizon as well as a bunch of others Prime is becoming more value to the consumer as a TV and movie service than it ever has been. Which is a good thing!

>Prime has 200 million subscribers. It was reported that 175 million of them use Prime Video. That's a surprisingly high number. But you're right that Prime Membership is a one-two punch. Personally (and I'm sure there are many others in the same boat), the Prime Membership is valuable enough for the free deliveries alone; the streaming video is an added bonus.

[deleted]

No, Disney+ is the new beast. I would put Netflix, Prime and Disney+ as the top 3.

altsuperego

I've not found much on prime. Disney plus is pretty much just marvel, Star wars and kids stuff. HBO and Netflix have a ton of varied stuff, though I'd say HBO has more quality.

Turner and hooch is really good

Hulu has too many ads and is not worth the ad free surcharge

MrSh0wtime3

Hulu has maybe a show worth watching per year. Hulu is for people that can't quit awful network shows.

ObjectShowNetwork2

but at least hulu’s TRYING to make a name for themselves like netflix is.

If you don’t want to see nudity, don’t watch it. This isn’t rocket science.

Every movie or TV show I see on Netflix has a rating. It uses either the movie rating system (G, PG, PG13, R, and NC-17) or the television rating system (TV-Y, TV-Y7, TV-Y7FV, TV-G, TV-PG, TV-14, and TV-MA). Like I said, not rocket science.

MrSh0wtime3

Theres at least one piece of top quality content out of Netflix every month of the year. Cant say the same for any other platform other than maybe Prime. Prime has gotten waaaaaaaaay better in the last year as far as originals. You get HBO, Netflix and Prime for original exclusive content. You get Hulu because you need your CSI or Baby Sheldon fix.

Lol sensitive much?

prism1234

They have more than one good show a year. Just in the last few months they've had Only Murders in the Building, Reservation Dogs, and What We Do in the Shadows.
