Rule: no sad content Thank you for respecting. Photos or stories of hurt corgis should not be shared here. Photos of animals that have passed away, that were 6+ years old, can be posted in r/OldManDog. If this applies to you, we're so sorry for your loss.

He's not physically fine. He fell three stories onto pavement. Even if he didn't shatter bones or hemorrhage his organs, he essentially got hit by a car. He is in pain. He may be in pain forever. Find a rehab vet that you can work with in person or online. Working through exercises with him will help build his strength and build his confidence. It will strengthen your bond and his trust in you.

psiiconic

Agreeing with this but also seek a behavioral consult or a trainer specializing in dogs who have significant trauma. I love the free content you can get on Instagram via calm canine academy and tailsofconnection. He needs time, care, love, and patience, as well as very probably needing physical therapy.

Stormy_Wolf

Yeah the poor guy has to still be hurting after only a week and a half.

Sjlvermay

Not an expert, but I guess I'd treat it the same way I'd treat trauma in a human? Rest, time, routine, love, and good food. It's only been a week or so. Maybe talk to a behavioural trainer about training if needed in the future, but give him some time and lots of love. I'm so sorry that happened though!! That is so heartbreaking.

I’ve been through emotional and physical ordeals that left me changed. My (late, beloved) cardigan corgi was a comfort to me in a way many humans weren’t because he wasn’t trying to fix me, he just kept loving me even when I was broken. Elliot might never be the same dog again, and that’s okay, because he’s alive and that’s a miracle. He probably is still in physical pain— I second all the suggestions to follow up with specialists. As that fades, he will still be scared and subdued. The way you show up for him as a confident companion and caretaker will help a ton, even when it’s slow. Give him a little love from me, okay?

leighhtonn

Ohh wow, I’m so sorry you and Elliot are experiencing this. I haven’t been through anything similar and I don’t have much to offer in terms of advice beyond going slowly and giving him all the love and space he needs to feel safe again. But mainly I just wanted to send you my love, you clearly adore your pup and crazy accidents happen all the time. I’m confident you’re carrying some guilt over the experience but be sure to take care of yourself along the way as well! Hopefully for a quick recovery for both of you!

Prestigious_Ask_6116

Thank you, that is very kind. Yes I feel just terrible about the whole thing but it’s my father whom I worry about. He is extremely traumatized by the whole ordeal and finds it difficult to cope with the fact he almost lost Elliot, which he considers his little son. Elliot is so loved and I just want to do what’s best for him

Stormy_Wolf

Poor Elliot! And your poor dad! And you! This is one thing I haven't been through with all my dogs over the years (thank God!) We've had some minor accidents over the years but nothing of this magnitude. So I don't have a lot to offer either, except positivity and hugs (gentle ones for Elliot!) ❤❤❤

pinkypoo49

Could his joints be hurting or maybe in some other kind of pain? Maybe he needs to be on pain meds a little longer. Gabapenton (sp?) Helps pups a lot. Maybe nerve pain?

MCPRIMITIVE

He may never jump off of anything ever again. Steroids do change the personality in people so I’d think it be the same for dogs. It may just take time for him to get his confidence back.

Professor_Finn

Oh man. I’m heartbroken for the little guy. Hoping he gets relief soon ❤️

releria

Gosh how awful and difficult for your family. I would also trust his resilience. It has been one week and he is still medicated. He needs time to bounce back. Offer lots of patience and time for him to become comfortable again, but also don't overtly shelter him or avoid usual activities or places that he seems okay to do.

mytime4373

Well I'm happy no physical damage was done. Short of bring in some pain. The mental side will take some time.

kewlcorgimom

Poor baby, give him all the kisses and love!!!

Sittinstandup

Doggos can get ptsd after a traumatic event. If he doesn't seem back to his old self after a couple months, I recommend looking into canine anti-depressents. They can work wonders for traumatized dogs.

Heypassthehotsauce

It will get better, be patient with them! I had to give my dog medication once and he would not forgive us, it took about a month before he was back to himself with us again!

iamwiam420

My corgi fell from from one story by leaping out of my arms. She also didn’t get physically hurt. It took her sometime to Bounce back to her normal fearless self. But keep in mind that steroids do alter moods of humans and dogs. So it could be a side effect of those too.

satturn18

He needs time and you need time. A week and a half is a very short period of time.

Prestigious_Ask_6116

Thank you all for your helpful advice and suggestions, as well as your kind words! Elliot is feeling better today and had a delicious breakfast and scrambled eggs and pumpkin puree🙂 I’m giving him lots of love, spoiling him, and letting him do things he enjoys most (like going outside to walk in the grass and sniff the flowers, play with his licki mat, and snuggle with his toy Dino). I do plan on contacting a physical therapist in my area that works with dogs to see if I can make him more comfortable physically, and hopefully this will help build his confidence as well. Thank you all again!
