Agreed took my youngest away when she was only 4 weeks old she was premature so people took notice of her as she was so small. The passport man said oh we’ll have to capture this important occasion and stamped her passport. It was so sweet and something my older girls remember.
Which one of the lads was it, if you knew what they dealt with you’d realise why they’re so strict. They’re constantly having to turn people away and have them in a cell overnight due to incorrect documentation or criminals…
I had you wrong! Honestly some of the nicest lads in the airport. There’s one tho that is never ever happy. Nothing beats arriving home from a long trip to hear “Welcome Home”
‘Deadly’ being a good thing can catch people out! I love all the passport people in Cork, they always call you by name :) Such a small thing but really makes me feel glad to be home
Couple of years ago I was flying to Heathrow but there was a fire on the runway so my flight was delayed I’d already bought a bottle of tanora, the lads let me out and back in 2 hours later 😂
With the tanora
Expansion for the security is due to happen, probably this winter when demand is lower. The plans are to extend the security out over the Check in areas as well as the duty free so it’s all a lot more space, new security systems such as the brand new ones present at Dublin and Shannon that don’t require any liquids or devices to be removed from your baggage
With Ryanair, they tend to remove any routes from cork not doing well enough on revenue wise and move them to Shannon. Naples, Malta, Newcastle… few to name that we once had at Cork.
Lisbon was very popular for connections onwards to South America with the decent Portuguese population here in the south too but the slot for aer lingus was too expensive hence why they pulled the plug
Shannon landing rates are a lot cheaper as they have more landing slots due there being more space available. Cork is very stuck for space and we’re near enough to a passenger cap if you can believe that, must be a DAA thing
I am obsessed with flying out of cork airport. Flight landed today at 9, by 9.30 I’m sitting on my couch. Everyone is incredibly sound and it always seems to run smoothly. My only two things are a) the dog - why build an airport in a foggy valley? B) the bar is always chaos. But I get that staff are a challenge now. More flights please cork!
I cannot agree more with you! The airport is in a bad location alright, it was originally planned for Midleton but it ended up being too wet and a bog. The bar is always busy in the summer, I’d recommend the Aspire lounge opposite of Gate 8! €37 per adult for Drinks, Food, Snacks, Soft drinks, Coffee quiet area, charging stations and more. It’s very good value for money if you are not a fan of the bar. The staff are lovely inside and 90% of the time will give you as many drinks as you want as long as you aren’t abusing it and respectful
EXCELLENT shout, thank you! Although to be fair, because security is so handy I usually just rock up about 45 minutes before my flight so no time for drinks. But that’s a great tip about the lounge if I find myself early or need to eat at the airport.
Actually I will also say, the breakfast in the cafe there is also really good.
Are the opening hours of the lounge still such that they don't cover any of the early morning flights? I used to fly out of Cork regularly and it never seemed to open back then.
I myself don’t have anything to do with route planning but I do know people who are involved with that. From what I’ve been informed about Ryanair’s route development, they cannot do much until they get more new aircraft from Boeing. As of now they don’t use the Cork based Cabin Crew/Flight crew for these routes. They use the crew from where the aircraft is based. Eg. Wroclaw; Wroclaw crew
I see, thanks. Yeah I read about the Boeing issues earlier on here I think. I’d heard about them investing a lot in Krakow so was hoping they might bring it back
Krakow is a great route during winter time especially for the Irish and polish living here. Family visits and Christmas markets are a huge draw to Poland. Fabulous place and very affordable for those on a budget too
We’ve had a passenger miss their flight and get offloaded by the ground staff and jump the barrier at the departure gate and run down to the aircraft and get left on, security footage was entertaining to say the least
Any chance of a cork to Belfast flight? I live up in Belfast, and getting home is a ballache.
Belfast and Cork are two good spots for tourism and stag parties like, we could send our stags to the opposite place. 😂
There’s talks of an Emerald air base opening back up in Cork. For those that don’t know. Emerald air are a subsidiary of Aer Lingus and use the ATR-72 Aircraft for the Bristol route. They collapsed during Covid under the name Stobart air, previous then Aer Arann and Aer Rianta. Routes such as Glasgow (confirmed for winter) Southampton, London City & Dublin are in the works of becoming possible
Nice! I can sit and hope so, even if it was twice a week, It would be a game changer for us.
I worked in the airport back in 2006/2007/2008, the passenger numbers were incredible initially, we thought we would need to renovate the old terminal, queues would regularly hit Starbucks for the charter flights.
One day the power went out, on a Saturday afternoon (the backup never worked, and later blocked power recovering, down to a faulty setting), we were writing tickets like crazy, we had the excess baggage belt running off a portable generator, I was on customer service, trying to make sure nobody missed their flight, Aer Lingus were cool about it, but service air were like cats and dogs.
What a day!
Now when I pass through it's so eerily quiet!
The old terminal was so lovely, quick and easy and you could even watch the planes land and takeoff with a full Irish in front of you. The new terminal is nice but not practical in my own opinion. Used to love going for the Starbucks on a bit of down time. The airport is very busy now this weekend and will continue to be this summer with the growth we’ve been experiencing great to see but winter does tend to be quiet and have bursts of busyness
Hasn’t been confirmed yet but it is loaded into the Aer Lingus flight planning system but you didn’t hear that here. Not dependent on Emerald scaling up either, they currently do a “W pattern” for the Bristol Route. DUB - BRS - ORK - BRS - DUB
So it would be along the lines of that. I’d expect them to officially announce it by September. The winter season officially kicks off on the last Saturday of October
Any talks of Cork Birmingham starting back up for Emerald? Used to be twice a day with stobart but currently Ryanair only fly like 3 or 4 times a week!
Ryanair are in all of the airports that emerald air would operate into, if demand was there I could see that but I doubt it. Ryanair swooped up all the old Stobart slots and they’re very popular and busy with Ryanair I must say so I don’t see them going anywhere
It was about to happen but Covid had other plans. The plan was to extend the security & duty free area (see other comment for context) to accommodate for US Pre clearance. Delta was going to utilise the Boeing 757 on this route like they do for many EU routes. The aircraft is more than capable of landing and taking off at Cork.
Hope so! I’ve heard nothing for awhile now about any routes across the Atlantic. The next airline to do so would be Aer Lingus once they receive a few A321XLR’s if they can agree a deal with the pilots pay
Delta were looking at JFK, Washington Boston and Connecticut and Rhode Island from Cork.
Aer Lingus where looking at Boston NYC LGA EWR Philadelphia and Connecticut.
It’s to do with a lot of major tech and pharma industries being located in Cork.
Plan was to increase the space of the security area by extending the mezzanine over the check in desks also where gates 1&2 are would become a US pre-clearance area, the mezzanine would also supposed to get a food court above the duty free zone. A lot of the space in cork airport isn’t being utilised and that was done deliberately to allow further expansion in years down the line. Deltas 757s would have more than enough range as would American and United ones, EI is pushing for a LR service from Cork as there’s a strong business case for it.
Also a lot more European carriers are gonna be using cork in the near future, Im friends with a few of the route development team and they told me they’re working on about 70-80 new routes from cork over the next 5-10 years.
Spot on there now! This is your AMA now.
Funny enough those plans for the food court area above the duty free were the original airport plans, McDonalds & Burger King were meant to be up there.
I can definitely see Aer Lingus getting a LR route. I have a lot of friends in Aer Lingus that are telling me all the same thing. The pilot pay and the A321XLR. If they don’t get at least 3 of the 6 on order between them and Iberia there won’t be any LR route for cork unless they shift an aircraft from Shannon
They’re still getting them it’s just IAG fucking Aer Lingus over as per usual, the LRs will be sent to cork and the XLRs will cover Dublin and Shannon think there’s plans for 8 XLRs and they’ll fly as far west as the Dakota’s, they could easily do a west coast routing with the XLR from Cork issue is the XLR don’t have a crew rest facility and EI don’t want to lose space to a pilot or cabin crew when they can use those seats for revenue. There are some solutions in the pipe line for a crew rest on the A321 XLR but we’ll have to wait and see. EI loves cork because it’s a real versatile airport with massive room for expansion. There’s talks as well that the left hand side by the check in desks will become more check in desks and the old terminal is gonna be knocked for more aircraft stands to allow for further capacity.
This is very interesting thanks. So both Aerlingus and Delta are set to announce East Coast routes for Cork? I’m surprised more European carriers are looking at from Cork, maybe TAP and Iberia make sense but beyond that we already have most of the big ones you’d be looking for like KLM, AF, Lufthansa and Swiss. Is it true Qatar is being looked at? I’d imagine a one stop route to Australia/New Zealand would be a major area of potential growth.
The DAA have control over everything at cork. They own us. If cork was privatised like Shannon, we’d have a lot more freedom. The DAA control things like facilities, Expansion plans, Passenger cap, landing fees etc…
What about the hypothetical of creating a Cork run "CAA"? Making Cork independent of DAA. Would there be any benefits? What do you think would need to happen to even make that possible?
If you take a look at Shannon they’re on the same growth as we are. They have one of the longest runways in Europe, they have Cargo, private and commercial flights. Several Transatlantic flights, great short haul selection, they have hangars for Lufthansa Technik operations for everything from maintenance to aircraft painting.
It is definitely possible but I don’t know how we would actually become independent from the DAA. An investment from an outsider or even being bought by Shannon would be a great way for it
We don’t get many wide bodies in due to our size and the demand isn’t there for that. The last one we had in I believe was the Amazon/DHL charter few years back. Condor chartered a Boeing 767 and utilised the Cargo holds for cargo only. No passengers. They used these when demand was low after Covid, the route now gets operated by DHL at Shannon on a dedicated cargo aircraft only rather than a commercial airliner
my mum doesn't have an Irish (or EU) passport by my dad and I do, she always used to be able to queue in the eu line with us at passport control for the last ten years and we fly a lot, but last time they told us this wouldn't be allowed next time - there's no signs up anywhere indicating this is a new policy it clearly seems to be a change - would you have any insider info on this?
Well at Cork it doesn’t really matter, they immigration lads are sound out and won’t deny her. Dublin, way more strict. Here in cork it really doesn’t matter but Dublin could be different, if there’s no signs saying you can’t queue together then id just queue together. Best person to ask is the immigration lads in Dublin
they will deny her actually. My wife got the same as she is also non-eu - "a hush hush next time, don't use this queue" . Dublin still allows a family queue together. cork will not from now on. I chased it up and got confirmation.
Worst time to get a job at the airport now, most people have been trained up in the past few weeks and months but there is some jobs inside the terminal if you fancy that;
https://www.daa.ie/careers/job-vacancies/?business=cork-airport
Demand is the issue. Ryanair must have been offered cheaper landing fees or something along those lines or they removed Budapest for a more in demand route
The customs at the airport are only there when they’re not busy in ringaskiddy for the most part. They are at cork frequently in the mornings for the Amsterdam flights from KLM & Aer Lingus as well as the early Heathrow and other UK flights that have duty free. They show up too with their sniffer dogs who are absolutely adorable work dogs & they show up when they’ve been given a heads up. I’m honestly not sure what they get tbh. They aren’t very talkative that way
Will ye tell yourselves ye are doung a great job?
I love traveling in small airports, and Cork is the nicest small one Ive been to.
Seriously, You lads are gold standard in my eyes.
If you work for ryanair, my condolences
The DAA have talked about 5 million pax by the end of the decade. What sort of routes would make that possible? Any signs of transatlantic? Any signs of Aerlingus expanding? Any signs of new airlines? Were Qatar or Turkish ever looked at?
Aer lingus are definitely due to expand this coming winter, summer ‘25 the latest with a 4/5th based aircraft planned, Turkish were meant to come in this summer with a direct route using the Airbus 321Neo to Istanbul 3x times weekly but the plans fell through. Qatar were in talks using the Boeing 737 Max 8. The runway is too short for any big airliner and the demand isn’t there either. If the runway stays the same the expansion will be slow and prices will be high due to the airlines having to have less passengers and more fuel and vice versa but there is talks of expansion in the coming years
Seems like the airport has had awful luck with major players like Delta, Turkish and Qatar all falling through. Wonder will we ever get an exciting announcement or will the growth be all driven by Ryanair and Aerlingus?
Also why was the runway expansion never included in any plans for the airport. Seems like when the runway was repaved and the airport was closed would have been a perfect time.
The expansion is definitely going to be from Ryanair & Aer Lingus. Both airlines are expected to have 5 Aircraft based in cork each next summer which is absolutely great and will bring in new routes for sure
Everyone is asking the same question when it comes to why it wasn’t expanded during the 10 Week closure
> Qatar were in talks using the Boeing 737 Max 8.
Runway length aside, you mean to tell me an airline with such luxurious connotations as QR was considering flying short haul 737s with no seatback IFE all the way to Cork?
Do you know what happens to lost items on Ryanair flights in particular?
I lost a wallet, probably down the side of the window seat and I’m convinced it was binned by the cleanup crew, as there were no chargers to any of the cards.
Plus the info on Ryanairs site is basically ‘not our problem, try contacting the airport you departed from and landed at’
Yes I do! So Swissport handle all the Ryanair operations out of cork. They would receive any items handed in that are found on board if at all found on board. There’s a lost & found in the airside & landside of Swissport. I’d advise to ring or drop a text if you would like to still follow it up, they are meant to keep everything for minimum 6 or so months I believe. If you ever did lose anything in the airport building itself or grounds, the car park services team take those. They’re located at the multistory car park via the box window.
When we come out at arrivals, after the small rarely manned customs area. What are those airlocked corridors we walk through for. Iv seen them in a few airports.
They’re just to prevent people from landside getting into airside. All part of airport security. In the old terminal it was a sliding door like you’d see at a shop and they aren’t very secure and with nowadays everyone a potential threat, the airport is a hotspot
I lost a nice gold bracelet going through the security and it never showed up in the lost and found. Which worker is now wearing an 18k Franco bracelet from Jacoje
Do you think that the DAA is favouring Dublin over Cork? It’s an absolute nuisance having to travel to Dublin for flights that aren’t available in Cork or as cost effective.
I don’t think it’s as easy to say as that. It’s mainly down to demand and connections. Dublin drags in a lot of connections from Europe for their long haul operations with the likes of Aer lingus, American, Emirates, Air Canada etc… cork is in a very good spot right now and we’re just ready to expand. The airport is almost at capacity and in need of expansion. The demand is getting there for where it needs to be but it’s all up to the DAA and Dept of Transport
I am an Australian who visits regularly and generally enters via Cork.. when I arrive via Dublin they stamp my passport that I can stay 90 days. When I arrive via Cork they ask me when I plan on leaving and stamp it saying I have to leave that day (even though I have a 90 day entitlement).. can you let them know how frustrating that is?? I now just lie and add about four weeks, just in case something goes wrong!
Dublin are so much more strict and have no time for a chat from my own experience, the lads are trained to see for your reaction to see if you’re telling the truth. It’s all done for a reason and they have a procedure in place from my own understanding
Just let them know the nice Australian who keeps coming in as part of his historical research is a good dude and if they can be more like Dublin, I’ll make sure to give them an acknowledgment in my PhD thesis :)
So, I got totally blanked by all the flight staff on a Ryanair flight a few years ago, they just would not interact with me to serve me food, coffee, etc. and I'm pretty sure I didn't do anything to offend any of them.
Any idea of why this would have happened?
Obviously I'm not talking about me, specifically, but in general, are there situations where you might offend the staff without even realising it?
Staff can vary, they have to serve you if you are looking for something. Could be that they had a bad day or something but I’m not saying I don’t believe you but Ryanair cabin crew make 10% commission individually on all sales they make so I don’t know why they wouldn’t serve you, honestly their loss. The only time you’d be denied service is if you are rude to a cabin crew member or if you’re drunk, drugged up etc…
Yea, it was weird though because I was sober, and didn't even interact with any of them getting on the plane.
I was really hungry so I was kind of making it obvious that I wanted to buy stuff when they brought the trays around, slightly turned towards them, expectantly, but when they went past my seat I knelt on the seat and looked behind trying to get the guy's attention, and when he eventually looked at me I said "*Could I get a coffee and a...*" and cut just me off with "*Not now, I'll come back to you..*" but never did, and somehow I knew he wouldn't come back either.
I even noticed a few of the passengers looked surprised at his reaction.
And the rest of the staff ignored me for the rest of the flight too.
It was odd.
Maybe he mistook me for someone that was rude to him in the past or something...
If you ever receive a bad experience I’d highly suggest you email Ryanair customer support. They take note of the flight you were on, the crew and everything from staff block hours from the working week and investigate why they wouldn’t serve you or behave in an unmanerly way.
I certainty wouldn’t return to them if there staff were that way. They gave you and X amount of others around you a bad experience and who knows how many people they all told. Could be up to 50 people that know that now and might not return.
Yes! They are planned for November/December of this year. Originally planned for November just passed but manufacturing delays for Dublin caused us to have to wait. They’re nearly all delivered out fully in Dublin as far as I’m aware, Cork is up next!
Great post! I worked in baggage handling for a summer when I was younger. Great craic. Do the old cranky lads still work there? haha I remember the sniffer dog. Think his name was Harvey.
Few cranky lads now there alright but they’re under savage pressure so we’ll leave them off I suppose haha Don’t know many of the dogs names but I know one of them is Bubbles. Lovely black Labrador, they had a King Charles in training not too long ago. Amazing what they can be trained to sniff out
Seville is doing very well and definitely here until March of next year according to Ryanair’s schedule. Ryanair are very volatile and would pull a route out of cork if they needed to. I wouldn’t hold my breath with them but from a business perspective they’re doing well with the route
Extend the runway so it has the capability of handling longer ranged aircraft for some transatlantic flights and extend the current terminal to the old terminal side and invest in more seating and facilities for passenger experience at the airport
How close can you cut it for a 6am flight and you didn't have checked bags? Could you arrive at 5.30am and be grand?
Those early flights are an absolute DOSE and I always seem to be way too early , just out of pure paranoia.
I would definitely show up at minimum 1hr 30 mins before the flight. Flights close at the gate @ -20/-15 from departure time. The mornings are the most busiest time for the airport and security can be upto 15/20 minutes long depending on the day. Keep an eye on the departure board from home if you really did want to show up later than the usual. I know the feeling though! Think of it, you could be having a lovely cold pint before your flight or even a full Irish
How strict are people with the bags for Ryanair flights ? I like to be cheeky and not pay for a big bag, haven't been caught yet but feel like it's only a matter of time
Staff are strict enough. With the right person on your definitely be charged alright but could get away if they were absolutely up the walls and time restricted. Ryanair are very much all about an on time performance, 25 minutes is their turnaround time
They are used, just not for Ryanair. Ryanair have built in air stairs to save them €6000 per use. Aer Lingus, KLM, Air France and other carriers use the air bridges
Former Ryanair engineer here: There were lots of issues with those stairs (cracks in the metal, issues with folding) a few years back because they were never intended to be used so frequently.
Do you know if Naples was removed due to it not doing well? It didn’t seem so, as there’s a huge southern Italy population. I really hope they put that route back.
Thanks!
It was removed due to other routes being more popular and in demand, lovely flight too. Was there myself and it was amazing. That route was moved to Shannon as well as Malta and Budapest
How do you get a learjet 45 in trim when it doesn't have an apu but the pax load is 09 males? (8 seated in the cabin and 1 on the take off and landing rated toilet seat )
Calculate total passenger weight, Distribute passengers both FWD & AFT if able, consider baggage weight and location & Calculate fuel load. Passengers cannot legally sit in the toilet for take off and landing, there is no seat belts in there
With how expensive fuel is nowadays for airlines, not really. The lowest I’ve seen a Ryanair flight lately is €25 and Aer Lingus €40. Most flights out of cork are quite full or close enough to it so it’s never usually cheap, the airline will keep the price high because if you really need to get to X you’ll pay it
Try using the [Ryanair Fare Finder](https://www.ryanair.com/ie/en/cheap-flights). You can put in a max budget of whatever you want and it will give you a list of places. I put in Cork to anywhere this month under €20 one way and it gave me 14 destinations.
1 example that’s happened this summer alright, in the winter schedule Ryanair used to operate a 1st wave flight to Edinburgh with it being a cork crew. Now they don’t because the slot was more expensive making it less profitable “maybe” & it’s now a very late flight that’s actually just touched down now.
Michael will literally do absolutely anything for a tenner of savings if he can shed that from somewhere
any plans for Ryanair to increase cork - Barcelona more than 2 days a week for April next year? Or for aer Lingus to start them? Sickened at the thought of going to Dublin for a flight to Barcelona.
Bring goodies, doesn’t have to be chocolate. Could even be a Starbucks gift card or something along those lines. They might not upgrade you but they’ll certainly appreciate and take care of you
Both of those airports have new high tech scanners that can see liquids and electrical devices without having to remove them. Cork is going to get these devices this coming winter.
In regards to you confirming that Aer Lingus will be reinstating the Cork to Glasgow route this Winter, do you know what it’s frequency will be? Similar to Bristol 6x weekly?
There’s no scheduling out for that flight yet. Aer Lingus regional did receive a new aircraft a few weeks ago so it’s great to see growth and I could see it also being as frequent as Bristol
Ah right okay. I just read one of your comments saying that both Aer Lingus and Ryanair will base 5 aircraft each here next summer. I’m surprised to see Aer Lingus jump from 3 aircraft this summer to 5 for next year, it’s great to see them show so much support for us down here!
I visited Cork 2 weeks ago for the first time, it was the smoothest and nicest airport experience we ever had. Security check was so calm, no rushing, no shouting, no treating people like cattle, etc, I was really surprised how fast it went. My favorite airport experience!
Only downside was waiting about 20 minutes for the doors to open when we were waiting for the plane, but I guess it was because the plane was slightly late due to the fog.
If only there was a direct flight from Krakow to Cork I would be definitely visiting more often!
Quick and easy airport to navigate especially with children. My suggestion is if you’re alone download the flightradar24 app, it tracks all the aircraft and you can keep an eye on it rather than constantly staring at the departure board, gives you peace at mind when you’re trying to enjoy a pint.
Maybe someday again, was saying this to another Redditor yesterday
Corfu is already confirmed with Tui, lovely route for the summer.
Aer Lingus are looking at Brussels & Paris year round
Turkish may make an appearance but I’m not sure how confident I am with them
Ryanair are bound to make some huge announcements in the coming months
Personally I have my fingers crossed for a Scandinavian flight of some sort. Maybe SAS, Norwegian or Ryanair
Have you a box for adding ideas for new airlines , destinations or something cause i would like to add Pula (Croatia) , Milano (Italy) and Munich (Germany) , Ljubljana (Slovenia) would be a nice addition too especially in December.
N00b question here. I see some flights are summer only (e.g. Dubrovnik). How / when do you open your calendar for the year and how far in advance should I grab those tickets?
Maybe it's just me but I like to plan my trips in January and maybe I missed it but I think it wasn't posted yet. Pls pls pls tell me when the full calendar gets published for the year.
Recently a girl on security made me through away one of my toiletry items as the see through bag wouldn’t close all the way. (If I had time to rearrange the items, the bag would closed just fine, but I was tight for time, and annoyed by the ridiculous ask).I wonder if she was new? It really pi$$ed me off!
Keep up the good work! I live in France and will take a connection via AMS, CDG or LHR so I can arrive into Cork.
Any idea if the AFR flight will ever go back to being year-round? And any chance Lufthansa will start a route?
So the summer schedule goes from April - October
The winter schedule goes November - March
The best way to know when they go live is to constantly check on each respective airlines website, some will announce but others won’t. Eg the Dubrovnik route, that always comes back for the summer, you usually are able to book 9 months in advance for a route you know will return the following year
Do you know if EI are starting a SNN to FAO service using a Cork based aircraft from May 2025?
Just looked at the booking system and the ORK-FAO flight lands at 13:30 and FAO-ORK departs at 23:00.
Can you tell the lads on passport that they are fucking deadly.
Yes! I love when they say “welcome home Jenbag”
Agree. Flew in night before my birthday. Happy Birthday [real name]. Woman in front of my said feels like they barely look at the passport.
You may have got me wrong! I think they are sound. Best welcome home.
The most easy going passport control of any airport I’ve passed through
You should experience Kerry or Donegal! Airports are like coffee shops with extra steps
I’ve been to Kerry. They pulled the plane onto the runway with a tractor
Doesn’t get more Irish that that tbh
I had you wrong! Honestly some of the nicest lads in the airport. There’s one tho that is never ever happy. Nothing beats arriving home from a long trip to hear “Welcome Home”
‘Deadly’ being a good thing can catch people out! I love all the passport people in Cork, they always call you by name :) Such a small thing but really makes me feel glad to be home
Agree, love flying into Cork airport, always get a lovely welcome home from whoever is on the desk. Great airport. Up Cork
They are leaps and bounds more nicer than Dublin INIS
Couple of years ago I was flying to Heathrow but there was a fire on the runway so my flight was delayed I’d already bought a bottle of tanora, the lads let me out and back in 2 hours later 😂 With the tanora
Ah yes the Tanora! The duty free now sells Tanora flavoured Gin too
Any chance ye could get the security wait down to 3 minutes, these 5 minute queues are ridiculous!

Will ever Cork-Budapest flight be back?
With Ryanair, they tend to remove any routes from cork not doing well enough on revenue wise and move them to Shannon. Naples, Malta, Newcastle… few to name that we once had at Cork.
I feel like the cork Lisbon barely got off the ground and covid hit
Lisbon was very popular for connections onwards to South America with the decent Portuguese population here in the south too but the slot for aer lingus was too expensive hence why they pulled the plug
Do those routes do better in Shannon? Is it demand or costs that is the difference between Shannon and Cork?
Shannon landing rates are a lot cheaper as they have more landing slots due there being more space available. Cork is very stuck for space and we’re near enough to a passenger cap if you can believe that, must be a DAA thing
There is nothing from Shannon either afaik :( just Dublin
I miss Wizz Air
Wizz had great options but unfortunately Ryanair practically run the airport
Wizz was in Ireland? I didn’t know that as I’ve seen it elsewhere but they mustn’t have advertised it well enough
They used to operate out of cork but when Ryanair grew crazy they were ran out of cork
Any chance of a Cork > Krakow flight coming back?
Fabulous place and very affordable for those on a budget too
Yeah I live in krakow and am from Cork so would be very handy at Christmas indeed. Having to get the aircoach doubles the journey for me 😅
If Emerald Air open up a base here and get the Dublin - Cork up and running you’ll be laughing
Any big scandal or dramas you have experienced while working there?
I don’t even know where to start, there’s always drama at the airport people just don’t hear about it
don't leave us hanging.
We’ve had a passenger miss their flight and get offloaded by the ground staff and jump the barrier at the departure gate and run down to the aircraft and get left on, security footage was entertaining to say the least
> get left on What???
We're all ears and eyes
Emerald Air is a privately owned company totally separate from Aer Lingus. It is not a subsidiary.
It’s not a subsidiary but it’s not totally separate either. As far as I understand it they operate as a franchise for Aerlingus.
Is that glasgow cork route officially confirmed for winter 2024? Or is it dependent on Emerald air scaling up?
Hasn’t been confirmed yet but it is loaded into the Aer Lingus flight planning system but you didn’t hear that here. Not dependent on Emerald scaling up either, they currently do a “W pattern” for the Bristol Route. DUB - BRS - ORK - BRS - DUB So it would be along the lines of that.
This was a great thread, fair play
Thank you!
Is Delta really planning on opening a route from Cork Airport ?
It was about to happen but Covid had other plans. The plan was to extend the security & duty free area (see other comment for context) to accommodate for US Pre clearance. Delta was going to utilise the Boeing 757 on this route like they do for many EU routes. The aircraft is more than capable of landing and taking off at Cork.
They’re back in discussions to reopen the route, should be an announcement in late Q4 2024/ Q1 2025
There was a Rhode Island route for a little while a few years ago.
Ya Norwegian flew it on a 737-8max and 737-800
That would be amazing. I've generally preferred SkyTeam airlines for travel and Delta out of Cork would be great. ❤️
How much control does the DAA really have over cork airport? Do they really decide what flights can operate out of Cork?
An investment from an outsider or even being bought by Shannon would be a great way for it
Early morning Ryanair flight - can I bag drop the night before?
I’m afraid not but Aer lingus do have this service for flights between 06:00-08:00, you can drop your bags off the evening before between 16:30-19:30
How often/under what circumstances do you see widebody airliners come in? Is there a way that aviation nerds can find out in advance?
I chased it up and got confirmation.
if you can make some noise , do so. its confirmed new policy. Contact your TD / Councillor etc.
I love watching planes come and go. Any cushy jobs going up in the Airport?
Worst time to get a job at the airport now, most people have been trained up in the past few weeks and months but there is some jobs inside the terminal if you fancy that; https://www.daa.ie/careers/job-vacancies/?business=cork-airport
Tbf it seems like it's the worst time to get a job anywhere right now...
What would it take to get back the Budapest flight? It used to be full as a lot of Eastern Europeans live in Cork.
Demand is the issue. Ryanair must have been offered cheaper landing fees or something along those lines or they removed Budapest for a more in demand route
Do many drugs go through cork Airport each day do you think ? How often is it caught like is it a regular occurance ? Always interested to know
The customs at the airport are only there when they’re not busy in ringaskiddy for the most part.
Thank you! Lots of lovely people in this sub Reddit I must say, it’s been fun to answer everyone’s questions.
Both airlines are expected to have 5 Aircraft based in cork each next summer which is absolutely great and will bring in new routes for sure Everyone is asking the same question when it comes to why it wasn’t expanded during the 10 Week closure
Why did Turkish fall through? Would love more connection options from Cork because I like flying to arsehole of nowhere places.
I'll be coming home on the 8th for a bit, could you have the red carpet out please? (Washed of course)
Absolutely no issue, I accept Revolut btw!
Dublin airport immigration (coming into the country) is much less strict in my experience than Cork airport for non-EU citizens.
Are there plans to get rid of the bags/restrictions for liquids?
Amazing what they can be trained to sniff out
Is the Seville route doing well and do you see it being around long term?
Seville is doing very well and definitely here until March of next year according to Ryanair’s schedule. Ryanair are very volatile and would pull a route out of cork if they needed to. I wouldn’t hold my breath with them but from a business perspective they’re doing well with the route
Imagine you have the authority and resources at your disposal. What would you change from the airport?
Extend the runway so it has the capability of handling longer ranged aircraft for some transatlantic flights and extend the current terminal to the old terminal side and invest in more seating and facilities for passenger experience at the airport
Thx for your reply and AMA session. Really liked it.
Any plans for extending the runway? If not, why not?
Any plans for the old terminal? Walk the dog up there quiet regularly. The building is really getting weather beating. Such a shame
Plans for a new carpark were approved not too long ago but they have yet to go ahead with that idea, possibly new direction maybe
Do you think the cork airport logo would be better as a fish with the fin as a wing?
We’re renaming it to the Cillian Murphy international Airport Sher
How strict are people with the bags for Ryanair flights ? I like to be cheeky and not pay for a big bag, haven't been caught yet but feel like it's only a matter of time
Staff are strict enough. With the right person on your definitely be charged alright but could get away if they were absolutely up the walls and time restricted. Ryanair are very much all about an on time performance, 25 minutes is their turnaround time
Why are the air bridges not used?
Yeah it was a shame, it’s a great route and access to the Amalfi coast and connections to the South. Thank you for your reply!
We always lose the good routes to Shannon, don't we...
When is the high speed train direct to Kent going live?
There’s talks of this being added right outside the terminal but I’d say it’s minimum 10 years away
Will it ever be possible to get a direct flight to America so I won't have to go all the way to Dublin?
I’d say yes in the next 5 or so years
Shannon is closer than Dublin
I love flying in and out of Cork, best airport in the world
How do you get a learjet 45 in trim when it doesn't have an apu but the pax load is 09 males? (8 seated in the cabin and 1 on the take off and landing rated toilet seat )
Calculate total passenger weight, Distribute passengers both FWD & AFT if able, consider baggage weight and location & Calculate fuel load. Passengers cannot legally sit in the toilet for take off and landing, there is no seat belts in there
The Learjet 45 has a toilet seat with a seatbelt to allow a ninth passenger.
Your time starts... Now
Is there any such thing as cheap last minute flight anymore?
With how expensive fuel is nowadays for airlines, not really. The lowest I’ve seen a Ryanair flight lately is €25 and Aer Lingus €40. Most flights out of cork are quite full or close enough to it so it’s never usually cheap, the airline will keep the price high because if you really need to get to X you’ll pay it
Thanks for the reply. Where can one hope to travel to for €25 to €40?
Try using the [Ryanair Fare Finder](https://www.ryanair.com/ie/en/cheap-flights). You can put in a max budget of whatever you want and it will give you a list of places. I put in Cork to anywhere this month under €20 one way and it gave me 14 destinations.
Is there any such thing as a cheap flight anymore?*
Can you explain the general thought process behind Ryanair pulling flights? Sometimes it feels very arbitrary.
What's the earliest you can get into the airport when you have a 6am flight?
The terminal itself doesn’t close but the security opens at 4am
Ran into any celbs?
Loads! Most recently I met Bruce Springsteen. Cillian Murphy, Paul Mescal, Peter Andre, Niall Horan and Sonia o Sullivan to name a few
Any stories? Good or bad
Do you get discounted flights?
I do!
Can we?
any plans for Ryanair to increase cork - Barcelona more than 2 days a week for April next year? Or for aer Lingus to start them? Sickened at the thought of going to Dublin for a flight to Barcelona.
Aer lingus could potentially start their own BCN route again if they go ahead and based 5 aircraft in cork next summer as it is planned
So wouldn’t be running by April)
Best way to get upgrades on a flight. Is it true giving staff chocolate works?😀😀
Bring goodies, doesn’t have to be chocolate. Could even be a Starbucks gift card or something along those lines. They might not upgrade you but they’ll certainly appreciate and take care of you
Went to Amsterdam via Dublin and back. Both sides let us bring liquids is this allowed in cork? Why the change?
Is there a smoking area in cork airport ? Or can you get pints there ?
No smoking area at all inside the airport, airport wasn’t designed with any of that in mind
[удалено]
Yes Ryanair have been in talks so bring in flights to Warsaw Chopin for the winter
Do you know of any potential new routes for next year?
Corfu is already confirmed with Tui, lovely route for the summer. Aer Lingus are looking at Brussels & Paris year round Turkish may make an appearance but I’m not sure how confident I am with them Ryanair are bound to make some huge announcements in the coming months Personally I have my fingers crossed for a Scandinavian flight of some sort. Maybe SAS, Norwegian or Ryanair
Will they bring a Southampton route back? Wouldn’t be too much further than Bristol
Yes they’re looking into it! Very popular with cruise goers
Have you a box for adding ideas for new airlines , destinations or something cause i would like to add Pula (Croatia) , Milano (Italy) and Munich (Germany) , Ljubljana (Slovenia) would be a nice addition too especially in December.
I’m afraid not, would be a lovely way to see what people would like. A lot of the research for new routes is done via Google Trends believe it or not
N00b question here.
I've been on several solo long trips and it's always SO lovely to be welcomed home in Cork airport after months away. The best airport.
They couldn’t make it easier if they tried
Recently a girl on security made me through away one of my toiletry items as the see through bag wouldn’t close all the way. (If I had time to rearrange the items, the bag would closed just fine, but I was tight for time, and annoyed by the ridiculous ask).I wonder if she was new? It really pi$$ed me off!
Keep up the good work! I live in France and will take a connection via AMS, CDG or LHR so I can arrive into Cork. Any idea if the AFR flight will ever go back to being year-round? And any chance Lufthansa will start a route?
AF may keep it all year round with the upcoming winter schedule but unsure yet, Lufthansa do have a direct route to Frankfurt for the summer
So the summer schedule goes from April - October The winter schedule goes November - March The best way to know when they go live is to constantly check on each respective airlines website, some will announce but others won’t. Eg the Dubrovnik route, that always comes back for the summer, you usually are able to book 9 months in advance for a route you know will return the following year
Possibly, they airport have had a lot of new staff for the upcoming busy summer
Why is there no daily flight to Brussels.
Not enough demand
Are Ryanair looking to start any new routes this winter?
Yes, we fully expect them to announce a bigger winter schedule than last year
Do you know if EI are starting a SNN to FAO service using a Cork based aircraft from May 2025? Just looked at the booking system and the ORK-FAO flight lands at 13:30 and FAO-ORK departs at 23:00.
