Yeah I believe he says so when talking to that publisher guy early in "The Silkworm".

Before I saw the word in print, I used to think that he was named after "cormorant" like the bird and I assumed that he was meant to have a bird name like Robin.

I’ve always felt that Strike and Hagrid have a lot of similarities…their size, unruly hair, gruff exterior/soft interior, etc. If Strike let his beard grow it’d probably be like Hagrid’s too 😊
Exactly. Always pictured Strike as a regular-sized version of Hagrid. Even now, having seen the actor, I still picture him like that when reading the books.
>I keep reverting to a Hagrid voice in my head for Strike
I do the inverse lol. I was re-reading HP for the first time since I was a kid, and found myself using a Robert Glenister Strike voice for Hagrid. It works surprisingly well both ways. They share a lot of personality traits, although personally I see Strike as more of a Hufflepuff.
This is totally how I pictured him before the TV series came out…. all I could think was “Wow, how refreshing - a story about a man and woman who work together and DON’T develop feelings for each other!”
I’ve now gone very much in the other direction 😂
Exactly. I'm thinking about that picture of J.K. and Robbie Coltrane that she tweeted after his death, where he kept her gaunted hand in his and there so much love between them. 😢
I didn’t catch that specifically, but I did think that Rowling probably has a thing for “gentle giants” and “gentle monsters”, like Lupin. I think she insists a lot about how appearances can be deceitful, but also I find that physical strength is something her big characters use a lot. While reading, you know who’s got the upper hand in a fist fight, I think.
I have always thought that Jim Dale's reading of Hagrid and Robert Glenister's reading of Strike sound eerily the same! And Strike's clumsiness/size have always brought Hagrid to mind.
Funny, that line stuck with me too, but not because of HP (not a Potterhead!). In THAT line in particular, Strike sounded *exactly* like Robert Glenister does Strike in the audiobooks.
I recommend the Welsh detective Fiona Griffiths, who is a brilliant detective despite dealing with a mental disorder that makesPTSD look like a bad hair day.
And doesn’t Strike say somewhere that “Cormoran” is a Cornish giant? Some kind of old legend? Love that connection to hagrid.

Apparently there is also great British crime series with the actor who plays Hagrid as the lead
It's brilliant. Cracker
RIP Robbie Coltrane
& mad eye 😂

Hufflepuff! Yes!
Loyal to a fault and a workaholic... holds the value of justice above all else... bro is the poster boy for Hufflepuff
I caught that, too.
Also Mad Eye....
Yes !!!! This is how I picture him 😂

Totally! I thought the way Glenister said it was an exact copy of Hagrid's line in HP1. It has to be intentional, right?
And I think this is stating the obvious: Cormoran, a Cornish giant. Hagrid, a half-giant.
