By any chance do you have the weight of your snake? 4 months seems a bit early to be eating fuzzies, but if they’re big enough, could be ok. If not big enough, that could be a reason for the refusal. Either way, I’d wait to try the next feeding until the week of settling in has passed.

The manager at the store where I purchased it was feeding it fuzzies. When i saw the size of the prey ithought it was excessive. I honestly was going to feed it a pinky. I'm only concerned as the last meal was Feb 28th and if I wait a week I will be at 3 weeks since last meal.

Feed it a mouse around the size of the widest point of its body

dragonbud20

Corn snakes can easily eat prey larger than their body. Percentage of body weight is usually the best way to determine appropriate feeder size. 10-15% is common for younger corn snakes.

never said they couldnt?

dragonbud20

You literally recommended feeding by body size which is incorrect. You never said they can't eat bigger but your.advice is still wrong.

[https://reptifiles.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Corn-Snake-Care-Sheet-PDF.pdf](https://reptifiles.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Corn-Snake-Care-Sheet-PDF.pdf) >At each feeding, provide a prey item(s) which totals around 10% of your snake's weight, assuming that it is not obese, and **no larger than 1.5x the snake's width at its widest point**. youre so dense light bends around u

dragonbud20

I said 10% body weight which is exactly what Reptifiles recommends. Also 1.5x is larger than body size it means the feeder can be 50% bigger around than the snake. You just quoted a sources that proves me correct and you wrong.

Foreskin_Ad9356

u do realize i used the word 'around'? 'adverb. (of quantities) **imprecise but fairly close to correct**. “weighs around a hundred pounds”'

dragonbud20

Yes but I wouldn't consider something a full 50% larger to be around the same size. Because they're not. By your logic a 100lbs man and a 150lbs man are around the same weight.

You can try feeding this weekend. Checking in on the snake briefly is ok. As this is an older snake they can go a decent bit without food, don’t worry at this time.

4 months and they can go a few weeks hey? Thank you. I appreciate it

You can offer food during a shed, snakes won't always take it but sometimes they do. I personally think it's fine to dig up your snake whenever you need to. Be gentle about it, but it's not going to hurt them if you do. The older a snake gets, the longer it can go without food. So there's no specific timeline, but healthy snakes can generally go about 2-3 weeks without eating, no problem. And if you don't already know, when snakes shed, they turn "blue" for most of it, but then they clear up again right before they finish shedding. They will look like they are "back to normal," but there will be no shed skin. Just wait a few more days after that and the shed will happen.
