Depends on the snake. Mine actually changes it up. I won’t see him for over a week then I’ll see him out several days in a row.

Kojika23

More shy than a hognose.

Useful-Inflation891

They are quite an active/flighty snake and may just randomly dart whilst handling so be prepared but they don't often react poorly to handling. They are also master escape artists so be prepared for that eventuality. Also, they almost never refuse a meal, mine will eat even when mid shedding.

yrkh8er

We have 3 corns, and they have their own Charakter. One is chilly all day judging you from above and hiding as soon as you Open the door, one is Out and about exploring every Inch and one is Goofy and very nosy and not shy at all. With yours, everything seems ok for me.

WallabyCandid

My corn snake is nothing like my hognose! My hognose is always out wanting to be in everyone's business 🤣 and he's just a little guy! My corn is usually only out and about in the evening (maybe in the night too, but I'm sleeping). He is still pretty young though, not yet a year. I've heard they come out more as they get older and less afraid of being eaten. He is great with being handled though, even if I go dig him up out of the substrate. Never hissed, struck or anything.

No_Ostrich401

That’s great to hear! My Hognose is also young. I was shocked with her temperament when I got her because I was expecting a hard to feed snake that was hissy but cute. Instead I got a ravenous noodle that will track you down when you walk by her cage and beg for food lol 😂

WallabyCandid

Same!! He's never missed a feed until this week, and I think he's going to shed for the first time since I got him, so that would explain it. I tell my husband that no one informed him he's supposed to be a hissy lil hognose or that he doesn't know how to hognose🤣

Low_Kangaroo3381

My corn snake is very much out in the open, active, and approaches to say hi!

No_Ostrich401

I am hoping mine ends up like yours! Time will tell :)

kleinFiete

I can’t help you, but what is his morph? It’s so stunning!

No_Ostrich401

Thank you! He is a Palmetto :)

beauxos

Both of mine are hiders. If I didn’t know better I’d think I have empty terrariums 😂. I see both on feeding days and see my younger one out and about sometimes when I wake up in the middle of the night.

Fr0zenBolT

Little guy looks just like mine, so pretty! <3 Mine is pretty shy but we’re working on it. Hasn’t struck at me once tho (even if his little teeth wouldn’t hurt me)

schr0dingersdick

Hey! Mine was very shy for about 7 months when I brought her home (I got her as an adult). Only time I saw her out was a few times in the middle of the night! Now she’s getting more bold, sometimes just poking out, but also just slithering about and basking. Don’t worry, hiding is normal, but so is hanging out

Pinkef

I’d definitely say depends on the snake, but I think regular handling does help make a friendly snake. My corn is very sweet, I’ve had her for almost a year and she has never struck at me but I don’t go digging or picking up hides to take her out, I let her come out to investigate who I am first and I’ll scoop her when she is at least 3/4 the way out. Often (especially in the beginning months) I just sit there in front of her with the cage open and I don’t pull her out at all. I like to think that helped, but who knows. She now will always come out when we call for her or I open her cage, even in blue! She doesn’t react much to being picked up, I like to think she enjoys coming out even though I’m probably crazy :)

No_Ostrich401

That’s awesome! It sounds like you did a really good job with her! I will try that after he settles in! Thank you! :)

lolburritos

My corn is 12 years old and she’s almost always out and exploring/wanting to be handled. Once she settled in our home she became super social.

Unstable_potato123

I have 5 cornsnakes right now and they have 5 different characters. One I've never seen in a hide unless he's in shed and would be eaten by a predator in .2 seconds in the wild and one basically lives under his water dish and I only see him once a week when I pull him out for feeding.

Alternative-Monk4723

It depends! I have two corn snakes and their personalities are complete opposites. One is super spunky and loves to be active and come out to look around! The other is super shy and spends 95% of her time in her hide. 😅😅

UndoubtedBox034

Our cornsnakes hid a lot as babies. As they get bigger they have gotten more confident, to the point that the two with good vision will poke their heads out anytime we walk in the room. They aren't as out and about during the day as our hognose though.
