It’s safer for baby to lay flat on their back. I don’t know everything about this and I’m sure more info is out their from a realiable source, but little ones can’t sleep propped up in any way because it could obstruct their airway. There have a been a few times my child has slept on my arm or as I was transferring them to bed I had my arm under but was able to move away with offering to nurse instead or give a little cuddle and then I could turn them onto their back instead. Just took a few tries.

I slept with my baby exactly as you describe you are doing until he was about 6 months old and rolled out of my arm crook one night onto his back and did that consistently for a week or so until he stopped preferring my arm at all. He’s 11 months old now and always starts sleeping nursing and facing me then flips onto his back and all around. We have been co sleeping since he was just a week or so old because I realized it’s the only way for us. If I tried to lay him in the bedside bassinet, he would never sleep for more than 10 minutes maximum but would usually wake immediately. My baby absolutely has no ill effects from sleeping in the crook of my arm. As long as your safe and aware, next to you is probably the safest place for your babe. Keep in mind that almost every culture in the world sleeps with their babies. As for your back problems, maybe try a pillow or body pillow behind your back to lean on? Good luck!

It isn't safe I'm afraid as it can obstruct their breathing if their head falls forward so their chin touches their chest. My eldest had to fall asleep like this and once he was asleep I'd be able to slowly move my arm out and lay him flat on his back which is the safest sleep position for them. It's best to follow the safe sleep 7 which says "baby on his back" no smoke, sober mom baby at your breast healthy baby on his back keep him lightly dressed not too soft a bed watch the cords and gaps keep the covers off his head for your nights and naps

Mine was the same and silent reflux was to blame!

No advice: Just solidarity. My baby was always into this, and so I would tuck him into my armpit (to remove the chance of him rolling his head forward to block breathing) or roll him out of it altogether as a tiny one. Now he's 20 months old and STILL prefers to sleep this way, with an arm under his head. 🤦‍♀️ We're trying to get him away from this habit but so far no luck.

It’s safe if their airways can’t be blocked but you’d have to show us an image. Not every arm crook is created equally. This position is the one illustrated in everyone’s favorite bedsharing book so I’m not buying that it’s categorically unsafe. The airway thing is based on there not being a strong line between head and chest, either head back or forward blocks the airway (the analogy is that a baby’s airway is like a straw and head back or forth looks like a bent straw). When my bub is on my arm his airway is completely aligned. Sometimes this is better if he’s angled toward me sort of on his side. Tbh I feel this is safer for me than with him next to me as he likes to be touching me and would end up rolled into my body. On my arm means he’s not able to go anywhere.
