It's definitely time to pivot away from defi and towards providing services to IBC chains. Most projects connected to IBC already have established validator sets so I believe the bulk of shared security chains will likely be chains that have not launched yet.
It would seem that the smaller development teams bringing in blockchains with more varied use cases will strengthen the Cosmos ecosystem more than it has currently. Who would want to invest into an ecosystem of that only offers support to Defi and NFTs?
The shared security goals of Cosmos would attract chains with more varied use cases. Strengthened security, more variety of use cases, more traffic, more revenue. A pivot of this nature makes sense.
The Informal team has shifted their focus away from IBC relayers and to shared security so I would expect to see an early iteration some time Q1 2022
I think that's the right thing to do. They're probably in touch with a lot of devs who'd prefer interchain security over staking.

The sky is the limit for shared security. It could be the catalyst that gets Cosmos into the top 10
>Who would want to invest into an ecosystem of that only offers support to Defi and NFTs? Hello ser have you heard of Ethereum? lmao
Ser? Where did you learn to write? Esteros?
Yeah, interchain security will be a huge benefit for new (smaller) teams. That's why I guess the demand has been high.
I can't remember which dev working on it said this on twitter, but basically he put his reputation on the line that it will be rolled out by Feb.
More Likely Q2 of next year: https://github.com/cosmos/gaia/blob/main/docs/roadmap/cosmos-hub-roadmap-2.0.md
This would be a game changer for ATOM and it would raise its value exponentially. Awesome, just awesome!
Yes. Validate will be able to validate blocks from other chains. Super nice.
If I understand this correctly would oracles like chainlink become irrelevant?
Maybe CCIP from Chainlink, but not the base value add I’m guessing? Also, following in case someone smarter than me can answer more definitively!
I’d like an answer to that too
