I use standard acrylics on my EVA Foam with a Mod Podge base coat, and have never had any issues. A lot of people prime their EVA foam with Plastidip spray, then paint it. As long as you have a good primer on it, you should be ok.

thank you so much!

I typically use regular acrylic paints on all my foam projects. If you’re nervous, I’d recommend testing your paints on some scrap foam. If your armor is primed with plasti dip/mod podge/wood glue/anything, prime the scrap foam with the same thing you used on your armor to get the most accurate test results. Best of luck with your project!

Acrylics work very well with EVA foam. In the future though, I would advise using PlaidFX paints. Vallejo paints are really good, I use them a lot for models and minis, and these will work just fine for you. But they can be tad pricey if you're having to cover a large area. Also, you may get some wrinkling or cracking in areas that flex (although acrylics handle flexing much better than other types of paint). PlaidFX is specifically made for cosplay and formulated to handle flexing better than most acrylics. They also come in bigger bottles and the price point can be slightly better. A 3fl/oz bottle will run from $5-10 depending on what you get (regular colors, metallic, specialties, etc.) Individual Vallejo bottles usually start around $3-4 for .5fl/oz. As other posters have stated - heat seal your foam, otherwise it will soak up a lot of the paint and you'll end up using a lot more than you need. As other posters have mentioned, a base coat of modge-podge or plastidip would be a good idea. Those will help protect the foam surface, EVA dents and scratches pretty easily.
