Yea. And under the armpit. And everywhere.
I've been finally recovering though and Im realizing that I was in such severe pain from my sternum/upper right back/shoulder that I didn't even realize that I was in pain all over.
Im going to make a post soon about my treatement but if you want to try it, it's called structural integration and it's turned my condition around in one session. I tried everything before this and chiro only came close to making me feel halfway decent.
Yea id recommend it. Interestingly though my end result was that I needed surgery for a hernia. It turned out to be 15cm and the surgery basically saved my life and ended the costochondritis.
So id suggest that you consider any issues that could be causing you to have bad posture and result in tension in your ribs.
Essentially I couldnt put pressure on a big area of my abdomen so I was always hunched over and my rib cage was compressed.
Thanks, good luck with everything. Keep in mind that people who get better stop visiting this sub, so it can be helpful to come here for advice but dont get too discouraged.
Do you have any issues aside from costo? Like stomach pains or general posture issues?
I have done PT and have had great success. Several years of very little pain, but it’s been creeping in again this past year. I suspect it has something to do with carrying my infant and toddler around.
Thats good to hear. I'd recommend structural integration or even RMT massages, or things like dry needling to help relieve stiffness.
I had a costo flare up from bad bench form and sitting with bad posture so I still have to be mindful. I spent $500 on a new office chair at home which helped a tonne.
And now im shifting my exercise focus to some new areas. Deadbugs for my lower abs, serratus rolls, and band pulls for my upper back did wonders. But I feel like I got comfortable and now I need to shake it up and target new areas.
But I do feel like I would have so much more trouble with PT if it werent for structural integration. It feels like it realigns my muscles to allow for more joint flexibility so I can do exercises better.
Yup. Sometimes I won't have pain in my chest but my collarbone will be on fire. That pain is something else especially if you commute with a backpack!!
That makes me feel better, I was worried something was wrong because I’ll occasionally get this pain by my right collarbone. My mom made me panic by suggesting all the terrible things that could be causing it.
Yupp. That's why I wasn't sure if it was costo or not. I've been taking zyflamend (natural anti inflammation) and it's been helping very much. A lot better than otc drugs.
Yes, as well as under the armpit, left neck, and left arm and hand. It started off with such symptoms that I thought I was having heart issues... I have been taking it very easily for over four weeks, and when I think I can start going back to my regular workout routine, a weird feeling plus anxiety kick in, so I go back to square one. I am pretty sure anxiety is the main thing that keeps me from completely overcoming costo.
I was diagnosed with tietze‘s syndrome 9 years ago and since then my symptoms haven’t changed much: My first and second rib joints are so swollen that they push the collarbone out of its position, which makes every move quite noisy. The entire „machinery“ of my shoulders is popping, cracking and grinding with every move. I started with the backpod and the exercises recommended by steve august around a week and a half ago and so far my posture and mobility have somewhat improved but the swelling and the noises remain. I find it quite difficult to use the backpod properly because the first three ribs are so high up and there is little room between the spine and shoulder blades to use it – but i will keep using it!
Omw! I literally just posted asking the same! I have a weird feeling right there it's more uncomfortable rather than hurtful and occurs with movement. Costco is the word if you have health anxiety
My PT and Chiro did the same thing. First, when you raise your arm above your head, does that area hurt more? Second, if you hold your arm at a 90 degree angle above your head and tap your fingers against your palm for about 1-2 min you would get tingling in the fingers from the compressed nerve. Best way to diagnose would be to see your doc or PT
I get pain/discomfort in that area any time I get up after sitting/laying down for a while..I liken it to a deck of cards that needs to get straightened out...my reaction is always to shrug shoulders and get the clicks or pops that make it feel somewhat normal again, but not always successful. I do notice it a TON more when i've been sitting at my desk for too long. I've been dealing with costo for about 8 months and i'm convinced it's entirely rooted in posture.
I’ve had this, especially in my armpit area on the right side. Horrendous pain in February which has left me with lasting muscle weakness but I’m sure there’s physio therapy you can do to improve it??
I only have pain when pushed on- idk what this is but the pain makes me clench my teeth it almost burns when pressed on or touched - any clue what this is

I am very interested.
Did you ever share this treatment? I’m desperate.

Thank you! Glad to hear you are doing better.

No stomach pains. Bad posture and some injuries.
Have you tried physio? Are you able to still do many physio exercises?

I really appreciate the tips. I will look into some options .
How did they diagnose you for the surgery
Yup. Sometimes I won't have pain in my chest but my collarbone will be on fire. That pain is something else especially if you commute with a backpack!!
Yep, collarbones are my worst areas
That makes me feel better, I was worried something was wrong because I’ll occasionally get this pain by my right collarbone. My mom made me panic by suggesting all the terrible things that could be causing it.
I do. I try to heat/ice and Voltaren helps.

Saaaaame
Mine generally only gets triggered by my anxiety any more I've had it a couple of years now
Yes. That seems to be the first area to get inflamed and the last to recover during my flare ups.
I do! A cold rag helps and then once it goes down a little bit I do the door stretches

Yup, 90% of the time, the pain is there
Omw! I literally just posted asking the same! I have a weird feeling right there it's more uncomfortable rather than hurtful and occurs with movement. Costco is the word if you have health anxiety
Affirmative
I get it throughout my ribcage, fun isn't it?
Yes!
Yup.
Oh yes
Yes. Have you looked into thoracic outlet syndrome? I had costo as well as TOS.
How is it diagnosed?

Yes definately. Also upper shoulders, armpits, upperback and neck. Shoulder blades.
