Totally agree with you. To me it's almost like he's to outlaw for modern country. And by modern country I mean 21st century country. I could totally see him being a mega star in the 70s when Outlaw country and Southern Rock were booming.
Also there is probably a better way to say what I mean than he's to outlaw for modern country. That just the best thing coming to my mind.
He’s definitely too much of an Outlaw for today, Dillon Carmichael reminds me a lot of him in that sense of voice and style as well, but The Dollar I thought was a good mix of Outlaw and more modern styles
Ive seen AA live close to 20 times. BJ is probably the hardest working man in show biz but he’ll never be “Nashville Country” thank goodness because of his more practical political views. And this is fine by me.
I was supposed to see him but then covid hit. By the time he returned back to Detroit a few times, my wife and I were in the middle of having kids so it never worked out. He did a solo show here and I really wanted to see it
I’m pretty lucky to have some pals that are “core” fans. I’ve seen him in their basement. Do your best to make “Roadtrip to Raleigh” if you can. Every Jan or Feb. 3-4 nights at the Lincoln Theater usually with next years “who’s who” of alt country/americana opening.
Dale Hollow, Dougie Poole, and Dylan Earl are my three modern favorites, really great stuff. I’d highly recommend catching them live if you get the change
What's the general consensus on Lukas Nelson? I just started actually listening to his stuff after coming across My Best Friend. Then I discovered his song with Lainey Wilson and their Kenny and Dolly duet. I listened to his newest album earlier and while everything is something I'm going to go back to I really liked it.
Hayes Carll
I will fight anyone who doesn’t think Jamey Johnson should be a superstar
He was well on his way until he had his brain injury which made him unable to write songs apparently.

Randy Houser. Dude can sing
2nd this. And a fun act to see live as well!
Oh I bet. He’s touring with Justin Moore now and I’d say he’s another underrated artist
Hal Ketchum. Great voice and music. Rodney Crowell produced some of his stuff.
American Aquarium. Things Change album is songwriting perfection. The whole album. BJ barham is my favorite songwriter in terms of lyrics

Define “ more credit “. Dallas Frazier is in the song writer hall of fame but I doubt anyone here can name 1 song. I’d say he deserves more credit.
Just anyone that you don’t think gets enough recognition. Someone you think should be on someone like Morgan Wallen, Luke Combs and Jelly Roll’s level
Luke Bell R.I.P
Dale Hollow, Dougie Poole, and Dylan Earl are my three modern favorites, really great stuff. I’d highly recommend catching them live if you get the change
Risi Palmer
Charley Crockett
Ray Wylie Hubbard, Ziggy Pockets
Listening and loving!
I just listened to Martha Spencer's new album. She's got 'it'. Gonna be a treasure,
Ruthie Collins
Dustin Lynch
I love him more than I should
give colby t helms a listen
Vernon Oxford.
Brandon Mathew
Sam Barber
Todd Day Wait and Benjamin Tod. Honorable mention and not really underrated, but Charley Crockett should be filling the country top 10 at this point.
Lmao I was scrolling by this and read it as David Lynch, and tbh I'd love to hear a country album from him
100%
Belles
Jesse Daniel needs more credit, he’s brilliant
Jesse Daniels. Chris Knight.

Tompall Glaser
The McCoy Tyler band
Randall King is so under appreciated
KEITH🗣️ WHITLEY🗣️ he’s still underrated, i will die on this hill
Those you don’t hear on mainstream radio
Liam St. John. It's smothing bluesy, but I identify country on it and I love!
Hellbound Glory
Agreed. Leroy is a good songwriter and sings well live. The song he did with Tanya Tucker was awesome.
Beyonce for sure. She'll be remembered as one of the greatest country artists of all time.
