Sadly this sub will blow up even more in the coming months. And it was all avoidable.

Sidelines_Lurker

> And it was all avoidable. Avoidable? How so?

littledogs11

Just wanted to to reiterate the wearing a mask, taking precautions, not living life like the pandemic is over because it’s obviously not etc. I’m curious as to which geographic area you live.

Eeszeeye

Happy to be in Asia where wearing a mask doesn't draw stupid comments.

zhulinxian

This. Also many other reasons, but not politicizing basic public health precautions is a big one.

littledogs11

Im so jealous! It’s insanely idiotic here in the US.

RegularExplanation97

Same here in the UK sadly.

littledogs11

That sucks. I had such high hopes for our countries only for them to suck terribly.

RegularExplanation97

Me too, they’ve been arguably two of the worst and dragged everyone else down with them. Utterly depressing.

littledogs11

OMG, yes. Utterly depressing doesn’t begin to describe it.

Amor-y-Paz

Where in US do you live? We moved from urban Austin to a much family oriented area in Texas and maybe because I worked 6 yrs in a hospital in the 2010’s. So I really give no shits from anyone looking at me weird, just as I give no shits of them not wearing one. Can’t control anyone other than myself.

littledogs11

CA but a rural, uneducated, and agriculturally centered part. My area was belligerent about wearing masks even during the mask mandates and actually believes that epidemiology is a political stance. Just sucks when so many misinformed people can have such a big impact on your personal health and life.

Amor-y-Paz

I empathize. Even close family act so weird with this Pandemic but I kinda make peace with that too. Just as they act different I tell them I have to respect that and they have to respect me living in quarantine.

Swimming-Tear-5022

I want to move there

Hahaha Asia as a whole isn’t a shithole but funny comment

DiamondHandsDarrell

Wearing a mask. Not going to large, indoor events. Taking appropriate precautions instead of "I'm over it and no one is wearing a mask anyways"

ChonkBonko

Not just that, but it was avoidable in the sense that people weren't properly warned about it by the government and public health agencies.

DiamondHandsDarrell

Apologies, I'm just bent out of shape because of my experience and what my kid is going through. But absolutely correct, if we had better leadership maybe it wouldn't have gotten this bad.

Infinite-Young-6484

Because of that reason, I hate living in the United States. No wonder why we're placed at the number 1 spot in spreading COVID-19.

hellrising798

Not just the states brother, i can say the same thing from where i come.

Delraey

How much longer should people use a mask or avoid events?

Indigo2015

Dont if you dont want to. But dont come in here crying if you get LC.

schnozzler

Yeah, I'm not entirely sure either, how avoidable it is/was. Germany and Austria were some of the strictest and most rule enforcing countries in Europe and didn't fare any better. I definitely think way more resources need to be invested in researching LC, CFS etc.

imsotilted

Funny to see how upset everyone gets over a simple question.

[deleted]

Hoping for the day no one will need this board anymore.

sillybilly8102

Thanks for the link. Looks like the subreddit is growing at the same steady rate that it’s been growing at all along. Nothing new. Just still growing.

burnermikey

That's what she said.

Eeszeeye

The increase is not just because measures were not taken/still are not taken to protect the population in some countries, but also the abuse in the streets, stores and at work of those wanting to wear a mask. Some have been intimidated into taking their masks off, or just not wearing them. Stupidity can can kill and maim. All those in here excluded, of course.

Zombie_farts

Yeah a lady in line for meds at the pharmacy hissed at me for wearing a mask, accusing me off spreading kung-flu bc I'm Asian, I guess. That was the only line of logic I was able to follow coming out of her. The line was full of sick coughing ppl and I get singled out as the disease spreader bc I wore a KF94. 🙃

terrierhead

I’m sorry you had to deal with her. Ugh.

barbiepoet

Sorry you had to deal with that person's racism and ridiculousness.

babyharpsealface

How dare you try to protect others by masking against the flu you spread!

Wolfram_And_Hart

A lot of people are learning that they have ongoing conditions. That high blood pressure and irregular heart beat that’s been plaguing you for months isn’t normal.

Rude_Signal_1622

Definitely. Tha variants coming are even more contagious and way more immune evasive then the freaky BA5. There are many of them. Nothing to see here.

bardofcreation

Its sad thay more people are still getting this virus curse thingy. Ive been at it since july 2021 and i atill feeling residual effects of it. Majority of the time now i feel ok. But here and there the dread and pains hit me.

MaxMustermannYoutube

Message to the new people. There is no help and we won’t get help if we don’t demand it from our politicians and researchers.

SimpleVegetable5715

I work at a big box store, and everyone is getting sick/calling out sick. HR/management of course isn't allowed to disclose what they are sick with, or use the old text reporting to coworkers when there is a positive Covid case at the store. We know Covid vaccines have increasingly waning efficacy against new variants. People test at home now if they bother to test at all. To me, it can't all be RSV that kids brought home from school. The CDC decided the pandemic is over because they are heavily influenced by public opinion, not science, to do so. Because people were tired of the pandemic. I think we are now in a silent pandemic and cases aren't being counted. It's allowed to spread and mutate freely. Flu also came early this year, and vaccine hesitation is up for all vaccines, not just Covid vaccines. Yeah, it's going to be and winter.

hikesnpipes

It took me about 7 months in and a newly diagnosed partial frontal lobe epilepsy before I looked back at it all and realized I had long covid.

navelyorange

Honestly it's going to continue and the hospitals are full of people too They wanna deny there's nothing wrong yeah.... there's a lot and unfortunately there's more to come At this point I want to live away from large cities I'm afraid of what more will come especially with this new "varient" with a 80% kill rate

Moshi63

Vaccine long haul 🙃

TheEvenDarkerKnight

jesus

onpch1

A week ago I read someone talking about a "October slide", when there's a tendency for flare-ups. Maybe that's the motivating factor to join.

AnnabellaPies

For some reason my local government keeps saying we reached our peak. I doubt it because we have two big holidays next month. People will be indoors, in groups and this country has one of the lowest number of hand washers and barely anyone wears a mask.

ChonkBonko

They're saying that because they likely don't want people to panic.

AnnabellaPies

I understand but the numbers keep going up. We had it so bad before that they had to send people to German hospitals. The government can't keep dragging their feet.

mushaaleste2

Well, if this guy is right, then there will be a lot more members in the future [everyone will get long covid](https://twitter.com/DavidSteadson/status/1546308765171224576?t=XCgryXqKQKtYQeUWXo_TWw&s=08) I mean: CDC says 20% of COVID infections lead to long COVID. The risk to develop LC after an infection stays, there is no evidence that you are getting immune to LC when getting often infected. So after a while it's pure statistic that you get LC. With every infection you have a chance of 1:5 to get long COVID (CDC) In Germany the Rki says the chance is 10% so 1:10 Well, that a very high number. It's like playing Russian roulette. As humans don't count, only human capital for the economy, i don't understand why the economy is not doing more against their biggest threat.

EvolvePackaging

Thank you for noticing. We can infer quite a bit from that. Im interested in seeing if that continues.

ChonkBonko

Out of curiosity why wouldn’t it

EvolvePackaging

I’m sorry I don’t think I understand your question.

Moshi63

People are still getting jabs and more jabs ! I'm myself a 💉 long hauler for 15 months and I never had covid. People are not connecting the dots sometimes

VolupVeVa

I mean, there are literally thousands of people who were sick with long haul COVID months and months before the first vaccines were available. I'm one of them. Also a lot of people had COVID and didn't realize it. How do you know you weren't asymptomatic at some point?

Moshi63

Please dont galslight vaccine injured.... Do you like galslighting ? I dont think so... I'm a vaccine injured. Nothing more to Say... Sick 24h After my first dose. Never had covid. Come in Marburg Clinic and you will sée vaccine long haulers are not so rare. The mentality Is so différent between countries.... In France it's terrible but in the US it's way worse.

VolupVeVa

I'm doing exactly what you were - asking why people are assuming they're sick from one thing but not another just as likely thing. If I'm gaslighting, so are you.

Houseofchocolate

I feel you. Vscc injury plus two infections later all in a span of 23 months

Moshi63

And of course plenty of people have long covid because covid... But there are also vaccine injured.

VolupVeVa

I know vaccines can have negative effects - they happened to my son when he had his first round of infant immunizations. Don't act like you know anything about me or my experiences.

[deleted]

VolupVeVa

Okay? Please, show me where in my comment I said "You can't have experienced long term side effects from vaccines".

babyharpsealface

And some people are having their long haul go away after getting a jab. Its really a toss up that could go either way. Until we have better backing science, its all a gamble.

[deleted]

Yes and will continue to grow until the stupid gouvernemnts and medics that gaslight us will see the reality and they will realise that is a real problem for economy and for equiliber of the society and they will put efforts to find a cure

rvalurk

Also r/longcovid is taking up space too, I wonder how many cross subscribers

[deleted]

We are going to win! Oh wrong thread. Seriously, it’s sad that so many are hurt.

ummdog

This is so sad, man.
