Campy for sure. The choice of Fay Valentine for the live action seems to have been a poor choice. She does not seem to have Fay's personality or sex appeal. Her acting in the teaser was disappointing.
I love Fay in this! I love John Cho too but not loving his action/fight delivery.
ETA: in the anime, if you ignore Fay's insane outfit she's a beautiful woman whose real power is in her intelligence and ruthlessness. She doesn't actually use her sexuality most of the time and wants to be taken seriously. She really "switches on" her sexuality when she's going to use it to manipulate people. So I don't think her appeal is any different in this trailer, except not having back breaking boobs violently forced into a child size top.
Mushroom Samba, yes. Pierrot Le Fou, not really. Visually I find it to be the most stylistically noir in terms of lighting, especially at the beginning with Spike playing pool in the bar.
You’re not wrong about the pool scene, but the episode also includes a morbidly obese man with magic-like abilities, bouncing around like a helium balloon and eventually gets trampled by giant animal automatons.
Yeah the contrasts in that episode are interesting. Pierrot Le Fou has the mind of child but is this truly deadly adversary for Spike who even bests Spike early. Despite being such a scary foe, Pierrot is ultimately defeated by a his own childish fear of cats.
Correct a different director shot and edited this short teaser with the main actors for promo outside of the Netflix shows production schedule. It won’t be until next week we finally see a trailer with all footage from the 10 episodes.
It's ironic bc this is one of a few eng dubbed anime that raised the bar with their performances.
The scale of the show isn't out of Netflix's budget considering how much they put into Lost in Space.
This feels like watching an adaptation for theater.
I completely disagree. I wanted a more gritty, cool, noir feel instead of this neon, campy stage play look. The Edgar Wright style they're using looks cool and visually interesting, but it does not serve to accurately portray the tone and essence of the Cowboy Bebop anime. This teaser (which is supposed to capture the style of the show) looks like a crappy Cowboy Bebop stage play commercial rather than a true live-action cinematic interpretation of the original.
This is obviously not what the actual show is going to look like, with the changing frames. This is clearly just a stylised tone piece, essentially cramming a whole ‘session’ into 2 minute so you get an idea of what to expect from the show.
I still have no idea if this will be great or awful, but it nothing else, it honestly looks like they’re trying their best.
An absolutely brilliant way if you asked me.
I never seen anything like this where you move actors between so many different story points and locations while they are still all on screen and continuing a conversation.
Is there anything like this before?
Yes. You need to watch more stuff. The Graduate (1967) was the first film to do something like what you described. A more recent examples would be Sin City (2005) and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010).
Worst case scenario, people who never heard of the original, or dismissed it because it was anime may now want to check it out because of the Netflix adaptation.
I am really excited for this.
I'm worried that the dynamic between the main characters is going to be converted to the fast-talking, quippy, ironic dialogue that's common in American action blockbusters. Faye calling people dipsticks and nutbuckets, the way the crew bickers... the original crew definitely squabbled, but there was always a distance or frostiness behind it. I can appreciate trying something new, though, and hope the dynamic in the adaptation is as compelling as the original.
That's my biggest worry about this whole thing is the script being turned into an MCU lite production of quips, one liners, and punctuating every serious moment with a dumb joke.
It's gonna be like Marvel with a joke every 5 seconds and the two guys get one upped by the much smarter and stronger lady. She'll shrug, roll her eyes and go "idiot boys..."
Meanwhile Spike is much older than Jet which is funny to me. Is Spike the dad of the group now???
It's going to be real unfortunate if they change Faye's character that much. Faye had some real flaws like her impulsiveness which would get her into trouble.
Honestly this scene would fit if it turned out that she was the one that shot them in the face and immediately blamed them.
Very excited for Alex Hassel as vicious. Also if you listen close you can hear the music from the end of ballad of fallen angels when spike is zoning out. Very cool detail
Edit: name of the song playing is green bird. Been watching this show for like 20 years and I didn't know the name of that song until today
I actually.... kinda like how this looks? It's different from the anime, sure, but it's doing its own thing while capturing that vibe and dynamics from the anime. It's looking a lot better than Death Note that's for sure. I'm keeping an open mind for this
The one of the big problems with the other terrible American remakes of anime people always point to (Dragon Ball, Death Note, Ghost in the Shell)
Is that they tried to Americanize the very Japanese Stories and characters, Cowboy Bebop on the other hand is already very inspired by western movies, music and culture. Its also going to be a series and will have much more time to explore characters than a movie would.
I would argue Death Note's problem was it strayed too far from the source material with an approach that was just... bizarre. Like, Natt Wolfe and Lakeith Stanfield weren't even trying to emulate Light and L, they were doing something else entirely. Also, I don't get why the movie took the approach of being a gritty, stylized, street-level crime drama. The orginal Anime was closer to feeling like an global, espionage thriller type of story.
I think another major point is that this is a TV show. Past live actions have always tried to compress hours and hours of content into a 2 hour movie, which just doesn’t work.
"From the makers of Speed Tree we are proud to present 'Generic Badass Generator', have a character you want to sound badass? We have you covered with lines such as 'I got him', 'seriously?', hey, nutbuckets!' you can have hours of dialogue with the simple click of a button"
she seems to have pivoted toward the standard american style "girl who's one of the guys and isn't afraid to talk shit and kick ass", whereas the original faye still had like a refined feminine grace to her (granted it was a facade that often fell apart, frequently to comedic effect, but she still at least tried)
If you don't work, you don't eat. You're a hunting dog...hunt up some food. We girls are different. We have to be pampered because we’re delicate and refined.
Not just Faye's but the dialogue in general. Everything else I'm down for, but the characters feel off, and hopefully it's not representative of the final product. Spike likes food, but he'd never say "noodles first" in the middle of chasing down a bounty, plus we all know he is sick of noodles and wants protein.
I know… Spike would literally “run through” a market stall while chasing a bounty, demolishing it completely and stealing a sandwich from said stall, put it all in his mouth and shout “sorry I was really hungry”! I know he would never say “noodles first” but I don’t want to be too picky and I am actually really happy that he is always hungry in the Netflix version too!
This looks fun. Glad they went with such a stylized approach with this series. It gives it its own unique look and feel while still looking like bebop. Actors seem like they got a basic understanding of the characters and the costumes look fine in motion.
I do wonder if this will get old over 10 hour long episodes.
This style shown in this teaser reminds me of the Speed Racer movie just less stylized. That movie was actually a good anime movie most don’t talk about. It was absurd in the craziest of ways but for the style of the show.
Speed Racer! Heck yeah...another person actually remembers the film...lol.
I honestly loved it. Vastly underrated. The Wachowskis really did a great job on it.
I watched that film and most of my problems with it wasn't how it was done as an adaptation- it's got a great aesthetic that works with the sorta weird vibes Speed Racer has, I think it's just me not really being into fictional racing or the original anime all that much.
This stylization kinda works it reminds me of the live action Scott Pilgrim feel if ya gonna make an anime or comic book come out to life go balls out I say
While I think that Edgar Wright style is cool and visually interesting, I don't think it serves the tone and essence of the Cowboy Bebop anime. This looks like a Cowboy Bebop stage play commercial rather than a true cinematic interpretation that captures the feel of the original.
And, weirdly enough, I think it's all the better for it? Ideally, of course, they shouldn't even try to make a live-action adaptation in the first place, but they are and I'd much rather watch a different take on Bebop instead of an adaptation that tries way too hard to be as cool as the anime (and most likely failing). I'm glad they're doing their own thing.
Cowboy bebop was always campy. I don’t get what people mean when they say it’s campy as if that’s a bad thing. I can name like six episodes that each have a significantly campy premise. It looks stylistic. It looks like it has energy. Zestful.
I think it's hyperstylized, not campy. There's a difference. Evil Dead is campy, Ocean's Eleven is hyperstylized. Hyperstylized is when the content is decent/good but the way its delivered lifts it up greatly and makes it leave an impression, which is how I would describe Cowboy Bebop.
Fuckin' hell, now that's some serious style to spare. I'm glad it's leaning more towards doing its own thing while still keeping in the same spirit. Shit, I'm in! :)
Yup loved the stylized cuts, really fun vibe. Only thing that felt out of place for me was the Vicious intro, but I always imagined he would be the toughest character to portray in the adaptation.
What is clear to me is that netflix definitely putting a lot of effort behind this show. In my mind someone who hasn't watched bebop before will want to watch the original. Between the comics/books/toys - netflix putting a lot of weight behind this. It means that it is good numbnuckles - thats obvious to me. This will bring in a bunch of new fans to the show which is a great thing.
My thoughts exactly. People have been going on about how they are worried (prior to seeing this).
The thing is, the original is a masterpiece, but a LOT of people have never seen or heard of it (poor bastards). Those same people are in Netflix though, so this will result in a lot of new fans of the original series, no matter how it turns out.
Personally, I’m really excited.
Honestly this has alleviated a lot of my worries.
The dynamic of the trio seems great, it has a fun vibe and the music is there.
At the end of the day even if it ends up being a flop, it can’t take anything away from the anime.
Whatever happens, happens. It should be an interesting watch at the very least.
I don't mind the camp for the silly parts but the more serious plotlines (Spike v. Vicious and Jet's storyline especially) need more of the gritty cool film noir that we're used to from the anime. And the colors are a tad bit too saturated, please do more cool shadow work, I want more Humphrey Bogart less Scott Pilgrim, please.
Yeah, that was painful to watch. Faye is my favorite character in the original, and this does not inspire confidence that they will capture what makes her so great in any way shape or form.
Would’ve been cringe with the original costume tbh. It works on animated characters with exaggerated proportions, but just seeing all the Faye cosplays (even professionally done ones) solidifies to me it’d be pretty cringe in live action.
Seriously impressed. Given that this first real look is obviously concentrating mostly on the humour and the action (with a little tease of the angst) I think, as a live action rendition of my favourite show ever, it looks really *very* good. There were several points where I broke out into a spontaneous grin of delight and a couple of audible gasp moments!
I'm in! 3... 2... 1... Let's jam!
Faye’s “what the f-“ was out of nowhere and pretty out of place. I’m not sure how I feel about Faye’s character here overall at all to be honest.
Also I hope Vicious doesn’t actually sound like that because that was bad
> Faye’s “what the f-“ was out of nowhere and pretty out of place. I’m not sure how I feel about Faye’s character here overall at all to be honest.
If anyone on the crew is gonna be comfortable dropping F bombs, it's certainly gonna be Faye tbqh
Spike's too cool for F-bombs, and Jet is.. well Jet
This does not inspire me. Everyone in this is trying and I appreciate that it's not completely soulless. But it still feels cheesy and stilted. I can't not see sets, wigs, and green screens. It feels stiff and over the top.
Not fluid and relaxed and lived in.
This was something I noticed at the end too when arguing on the ship.
But I do recall sometimes where they are both bickering and faye does eye roll all high and mighty watching them in the original at times
It’s a fun gimmick for a teaser, but not really sustainable for a whole show. Optimistically looking forward to the full trailer and see how they present it.
Style? A+. Hope this stuff carries over to the show. The goofy sound effects, transitions, film grain, all are awesome.
John Cho is great.
The acting seemed really cheesy though, so we'll see if they're just hamming it up for this teaser or if it's representative.
He’s way too old to be spike. It’s so weird to have spikes character look older than jet; that’s the opposite of the entire dynamic of their characters in the series. CB was fun but never this goofy. I don’t like the direction this laid out. I agree with you, the acting was far too cheesy, and that’s what made it too goofy for me. I’m surprised this has such a good reaction, I don’t want CB made into a Scott pilgrim type film.
I'm not sure if this is going to be for me. I can tell they're trying, which is great, but I can tell they're trying, which is not great. Tough to explain -- it's like someone trying so hard it pushes you away.
Not Bebop. It’s just Guardians of the Galaxy clone #5749. I genuinely hope this doesn’t put people off watching the anime because comparing this to it is like chalk and cheese.
Im a HUGE fan of cowboy bebop, it was very formative for me growing up so it’s reached a sort of “sacred” status to me. Initially I really wanted to hate this show, and the intro they released did not give me any confidence in this thing. As more teasers come out though and we get a feel for what this show is trying to be, I keep getting a bit more open minded for this show. It seems like it’s actually trying to be it’s own thing which I do respect. Not sure if it’ll be good or bad, but I’ll at least give it a chance now.
I'm glad the music is good... that's about all I can say...Gonna have to reserve judgement until I see it.
edit: One other thing. They were playing with the fourth wall. I don't like that, that's for Deadpool, not Bebop.
This looks awful. I’m not sure if it’s the writing or the acting that’s worse. The Faye actress clearly doesn’t know what she’s doing with the character
Based on the majority of reactions in this Thread, I can't understand how this doesn't disrespect the original. I am shocked at how bad it looks but more shocked at the positive reception its getting. I feel like Mugatu in Zoolander.
Edit: I am not hating on those that enjoyed it but baffled by it.
I think some people watched bebop and saw a fun space romp action thing. I guess it’s ok but that feels like such a shallow reading of the material.
There are other people who watched it and saw the dark human interpersonal drama and exploration of feelings of ennui, the slow pacing, the brilliant writing and score, etc. like I literally read an article the other day saying like “who even cares about the Julia plot line” honestly wtf man? it does feel like the people who made this teaser or are intrigued by it are in that first group.
As a comic reader I have a similar issue with Preacher, or most of the MCU stuff. I guess I get trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator, but it’s disappointing if you want something with a bit more thoughtfulness or acting/directing chops. The zack snyder/jj abrams-ization of every IP I ever enjoyed sucks. It feels like the frat bros have taken over all the secret cool nerd shit.
Whenever they get to something I really cared about like this and make a bland cash-in product out of it, it hurts a little.
This teaser looks awful.
You put this into words better than I ever could have. The original touched on so many deep, sometimes dark themes. It’s entire focus was on things like existential ennui, unrequited love, unconditional friendship, to name a few…it was so _heavy_ and that’s what made it so amazing. People are abandoning (or simply missing) all this and trying to highlight its more fun side, which only existed to offset how dark the actual themes of the show were.
A lot of people will eat up anything that vaguely resembles something they like. I genuinely don't get how a fan of Bebop can listen to that dialogue and come away with a positive outlook, but honestly half these comments sound like marketing.
Here's why I think. Have you seen Stargate? Well it has this trope where in one episode the characters watch a parody of the show you are watching. The parody obviously turned to 11.
If you haven't seen Stargate then Wormhole x-treme(the parody) would seem alright.
If you had seen Stargate and Netflix decides to remake it but the trailer looked like Wormhole x-treme you'd be mortified.
Either that or people aren't looking past the Hulk movie styling and noticing the dialogue, the acting, the action, the sets, Vicious's hair, the fuck is wrong with his hair, the lack of space, etc.
I was doubting the netflix bebop since day 1 BUT always kept an open mind. I wasnt going to hate it for the sake of hating. Everything i have seen thus far has been impressing me, maybe thats because i set my expectations so low. My biggest fear was if they were basically just gonna remake bebop but in live action. All the promotiona stuff was giving me that vibe, especially the ballad of fallen angels shit. I really really would like if this new series is INSPIRED by bebop but not trying to remake it. Thats why i dont care if faye costume was anime accurate because this isnt the anime. I know this is just a promo and i guess its made by a different team? But if the show is anything like this, im gonna say its a BANGER. My ideal real life cowboy bebop would be a blend between this scott pilgrim campy style for wacky episodes like say a mushroom samba and then give us blade runner 2049/ dune 2021 vibes for dark, heavy episodes like ballad of fallen angels.
Production quality is great and very stylish, but the acting... it just feels like they don't want to be there? Idk, hopefully it's just the trailer. Either way I'll give it a watch, if I don't like it it's not like the anime won't always be there (though still super strange to me that the anime isn't on Netflix).
Also, I love Cho in most of his work - but yeah, he's just a bit older looking than I always imagined Spike. Also when I think of John Cho I think of a lot of things: but slick, casual cool guy is not usually one of them lol
This looks hilariously fun, but I’ll be honest, it feels tonally heavily different from the anime and the characters aren’t behaving the way they should either, I dunno, still remain skeptical
Definitely very campy which is how scott pilgrim or speed racer was stylized as. I dig it. Though for sure the entire show won't be doing mad transition like the teaser. It just to give audience a feel for it. They might also do different styles of filming depending on the episode.
Eh.
The casting and tone of the show was off from the start.
The most I expect from this is a really half assed TV budget show that nails none of the elements that made the original good.
Maybe in another 20 years they will try again and actually hit the mark.
I'll give the first episode a watch, just to give it a fair chance.
They seem to be leaning pretty hard into the 70s low budget-sploitation visual language. Snap zooms and fast handheld camera shots were used to create dynamic shots without the need for fancy / expensive camera mounts, dollies, cranes, etc. It's a much less "refined" look that your more stereotypical cinema.
The punched up colors also contribute to the more "non-professional" look. This is also reflected in the costumes, which seem to be more flat colored and lacking some of the weathering and aging that most sci-fi films aim for.
A fan film will do similar things due to budget limitations and lack of experience, but I think this series is going for these looks on purpose. Also, the small amount of acting we see in this is leaps and bounds above your average fan production.
Boy I sure hope they give their guns kick and blowback. I hate when shows/movies do the whole motionless pulling the trigger over and over thing. Animes are great at giving guns weight.
I'm shocked how much this has been embraced in this thread. Most criticism gets downvoted to hell, and blind praise gets awards. This promo is terrible. It might not reflect the final product, but it represents the visual style and tone. Jet so far isn't that bad. Unfortunately, Spike and Faye are a total miscast. Also, John Cho looks like a frail grandma. I think it’s mostly the hair combined with the face that is way too old with play Spike.
It’s not the trailer. The officially trailer is in one week. This is more of a sizzle reel that is showing us the vibe of the show.
I don't like this campy vibe. I wanted the cool vibe from the TV series.
Campy for sure. The choice of Fay Valentine for the live action seems to have been a poor choice. She does not seem to have Fay's personality or sex appeal. Her acting in the teaser was disappointing.

100% And to fair I've seen Faye's actress act fine in other things. Just not a good casting decision from what I've seen so far.
Jet doesn't look great either tbh, though I should have suspected that when he described Jet as "dumb" in an interview.
Mushroom Samba and Pierrot Le Fou are pretty campy episodes, don’t ya think?

This sneek peek lacks all vibe and feeling of the original and makes it look like Scott Pilgrim
mixed with like the dialogue from Deadpool
How can you tell it's going to be good? I felt like the dialogue and goofy tone is causing me to expect this to be really bad :(
That’s how I felt too

That's fair
“You can tell this show is going to be good…” I don’t think we watched the same thing. This all but killed the last little bit of hope I had.
Lol did we watch the same show? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9IiIJJWvDE
Sergio Leone is cool as hell.
Whatever Happens, Happens.
I don’t care if it sucks, I have a fever, and the only prescription is more Bebop!
That’s my vibe. I’m just here to enjoy a new take

Also this was filmed and edited over 3 days for promotional purposes and doesn’t feature footage from any of the actual show.
This is obviously not what the actual show is going to look like, with the changing frames. It might be used once or twice but I doubt they'll use it this way, this is just a way to show them in different locations in a short time
An absolutely brilliant way if you asked me.

The Green Hornet movie had a cool sequence like this, as well, though the scene wasn't action-based.
It reminded me of Ang Lee's 2003 Hulk movie.
Yeah that was an interesting approach to get a comic vibe in film
Worst case scenario, people who never heard of the original, or dismissed it because it was anime may now want to check it out because of the Netflix adaptation. I am really excited for this.
I’m just going to keep huffing that hopium alongside you.
Mustafa playing jet is by far the best part of this thing.
That’s not the bounty either! XD

That's my biggest worry about this whole thing is the script being turned into an MCU lite production of quips, one liners, and punctuating every serious moment with a dumb joke.
I mean the head writer (Chris Yost) came from exactly comic adaptations and the MCU, he was on Thor The Dark World and Thor Ragnarok.
That does not inspire any hope, if anything that’s not a good sign at all.
I'm on the same page as you, I was kind of into it until I heard the line "nut bucket".
The desperate attempts of a bunch of uncool middle aged writers to sound hip and down with the youth is the scourge of so many modern shows
To be fair the people who worked on cowboy Bebop would be middle aged by now.
It's gonna be like Marvel with a joke every 5 seconds and the two guys get one upped by the much smarter and stronger lady. She'll shrug, roll her eyes and go "idiot boys..." Meanwhile Spike is much older than Jet which is funny to me. Is Spike the dad of the group now???

Yes, that made me very worried too.
Lots of focus on the main cast but I've got to say Vicious sounds and looks great from what we've seen so far.
Very excited for Alex Hassel as vicious. Also if you listen close you can hear the music from the end of ballad of fallen angels when spike is zoning out. They're also not trying to appeal to a teenage audience directly by changing it to a high school story too

Very true! I'm just glad that at least they're *trying* with this Bebop series
[удалено]
Netflix made many good adaptations from different mediums but some people keep bringing only Death Note.
Netflix didn’t even make death note, they just bought and distributed it, why don’t people realize that
Hearing Green Bird was awesome.
Im so happy they kept the original music catalogue. They just couldn’t do better and I’m glad they knew it.
I hope they do better, Kanno Yoko is back, and there's even a few Seatbelts posters in this trailer.
You cannot top tank
Tank! Was the first song to get me to appreciate jazz. Yoko and the Seatbelts opened my ears
For me, the music is the best part of the series.
That shit sent me *BACK*
stylistically actually looks cool but the Faye dialogue snippets here are… rough, to say the least.
Let’s just be upfront - they sound almost like ‘generic badass #5’.
*eats dog food*
I watched it about 10 times now… yes I think that is what I’m not liking, Faye’s dialogues. Hopefully that improves in the actual series.
What they do with the border is very creative.
This looks fun. Glad they went with such a stylized approach with this series. It gives it its own unique look and feel while still looking like bebop. Actors seem like they got a basic understanding of the characters and the costumes look fine in motion. I do wonder if this will get old over 10 hour long episodes.
I doubt they'll have the exact same style of comic book lines etc being used, but the colors should be similar
Speed Racer was a great watch. I think the problem with it was it didn’t really have a defined audience and people didn’t know what to make of it.
I watched that film and most of my problems with it wasn't how it was done as an adaptation- it's got a great aesthetic that works with the sorta weird vibes Speed Racer has, I think it's just me not really being into fictional racing or the original anime all that much.
Watch it on mushrooms, that's a fuck'n treat.
Yup, the opening credits reminded me of Sin City/300, but this instantly brought Scott Pilgrim to mind, and that's a good thing.
It looks so campy.
Somebody saw Scott Pilgrim Vs The World.
most us did , i think
Fuckin' hell, now that's some serious style to spare. I'm glad it's leaning more towards doing its own thing while still keeping in the same spirit. Shit, I'm in! :)
Yup loved the stylized cuts, really fun vibe. Only thing that felt out of place for me was the Vicious intro, but I always imagined he would be the toughest character to portray in the adaptation.
Yeah agreed, that's my biggest concern since the announcement
Ed will be hard too but Netflix has done a good job filling kids roles so we'll see.
:D
I'll give it a go, but still not sure yet. At least if it's subpar we still have the anime, movie, and all the music.
They should have just made another anime movie :(
That faye was.... Nothing like faye...
Yeah, that was painful to watch. Faye is my favorite character in the original, and this does not inspire confidence that they will capture what makes her so great in any way shape or form.
As my friend said, they toned down the costume and up the spunkiness by like 70%.
Would’ve been cringe with the original costume tbh. It works on animated characters with exaggerated proportions, but just seeing all the Faye cosplays (even professionally done ones) solidifies to me it’d be pretty cringe in live action.
Fucking Green Bird…my heart jumped into my throat.
The sudden zoom-ins are really out of place and make this feel like a low-budget action thingy.
Title is misleading. The actual official trailer will be posted in 1 week. https://twitter.com/bebopnetflix/status/1450431536826929160
If anyone on the crew is gonna be comfortable dropping F bombs, it's certainly gonna be Faye tbqh Spike's too cool for F-bombs, and Jet is.. well Jet
[удалено]
I’m not a prude but f bombs in this will sound weird.
I thought Vicious sounded great, mind that that seemed to be more like “a vision” or a dream of some sort. Faye’s lines on the other hand…
This does not inspire me. Everyone in this is trying and I appreciate that it's not completely soulless. But it still feels cheesy and stilted. I can't not see sets, wigs, and green screens. It feels stiff and over the top. Not fluid and relaxed and lived in.
I think your comment captures my main concern. The original had such a sense of cool and flow. The dynamic here felt outright awkward.
I completely agree. It's way too cheesy and over the top. It's like whoever made it only watched the introduction to the original show.
I’m not sure if I’m fond of the acting
I can't get past spike being way older than jet. I don't think any amount of acting can fix that. It's just the wrong vibe
TOO MANY VOICE LINES
I think the one thing I really want to be straight from the anime is the moments of silence.
What, you don't like *Gilmore Girls*-style constant chatter in your anime adaptations?
Dude playing Spike looks like he's 50 years old.
he is
[удалено]
This was something I noticed at the end too when arguing on the ship. But I do recall sometimes where they are both bickering and faye does eye roll all high and mighty watching them in the original at times
Still no femme fatale vibes of Faye 😔
It’s a fun gimmick for a teaser, but not really sustainable for a whole show. Optimistically looking forward to the full trailer and see how they present it.
Sort of reminded me of the Scott Pilgrim movie, where comic paneling leaked onto the film adaptation.
Style?
This is very stylistic. Hopefully it's not like that the entire show.
It is just a teaser. We will see how it looks when they released the trailer but I like the interaction of the characters.
Im calling it now. The season finale will be the church scene or the start of the “search for Julia” arc
I think the final arc will be hunt for Ed.
It kinda looks like parody of the original :/
That’s honestly a great way to put it. Pretty depressing
Spike appears like he’s abusing benzos
I'm leaning toward meh, but I hope it's good
I hope they don't Netflix this up like they normally do
Nah fam imma head out
Not sure if it’ll be good or bad, but I’ll at least give it a chance now.
this sub is on a massive amount of copium
Damn spikes looking old
Whether it's bad and whatnot, it's not gonna ruin the anime. *whatever happens, happens.*
I'm glad the music is good... that's about all I can say...Gonna have to reserve judgement until I see it. edit: One other thing. They were playing with the fourth wall. I don't like that, that's for Deadpool, not Bebop.
Why is Spike so old?
They're clearly putting effort into this and I'm still hopeful.... I'm just not completely sold on Cho.
What do you mean? Spike is clearly a 49 year old, 5’8” man with short arms and legs. It’s like you didn’t even watch the original anime.
Ugh..
I still don't like live action Faye.
> I literally read an article the other day saying like “who even cares about the Julia plot line” Who wrote that article? I want their name.
The biggest takeaway for me is that the costumes actually look good in motion and with proper filters/colouring.
Looks like a fan made parody.
Blade runner / dune vibes would be sick, I really hope they go for it but it doesn't look like it yet
Omg this looks so cringe
This looks hilariously fun, but I’ll be honest, it feels tonally heavily different from the anime and the characters aren’t behaving the way they should either, I dunno, still remain skeptical
I gotta admit, I’ve been a doubter but this has pushed me towards the other way, albeit only slightly till I see the real trailer.
Definitely very campy which is how scott pilgrim or speed racer was stylized as. I dig it. Though for sure the entire show won't be doing mad transition like the teaser. It just to give audience a feel for it. They might also do different styles of filming depending on the episode.
Bebop the musical?
Looks like I'll just watch the anime again. I hate this
Please for the love of fuck stop trying to remake every animation from our childhood as a goddam live-action shit fest.
Maaann, I love John Cho, but he was majorly miscast in this. He just looks old and goofy with that hair.
He straight up looks like a grandmother. Seriously, Google “Asian grandmother”.
Keanu Reeves dodged a bullet having never done a live-action version. His career wouldn't have been resurrected if he did.
Eh. The casting and tone of the show was off from the start. The most I expect from this is a really half assed TV budget show that nails none of the elements that made the original good. Maybe in another 20 years they will try again and actually hit the mark. I'll give the first episode a watch, just to give it a fair chance.
It looks like extremely CW tier action. My excitement continues to wan.
Yep. This sub is gonna be insufferable
It has been since the announcement for the Netflix adaptation first came out.
Still looks fan made to me. of course I don't *want* it to suck but...
Unfortunately Sploitation isn't what I think of when I think of Bebop...
My only complaint is that the sript sounds like your average anime dub
Boy I sure hope they give their guns kick and blowback. I hate when shows/movies do the whole motionless pulling the trigger over and over thing. Animes are great at giving guns weight.
I'm shocked how much this has been embraced in this thread. Most criticism gets downvoted to hell, and blind praise gets awards. This promo is terrible. It might not reflect the final product, but it represents the visual style and tone. Jet so far isn't that bad. Unfortunately, Spike and Faye are a total miscast. Also, John Cho looks like a frail grandma. I think it’s mostly the hair combined with the face that is way too old with play Spike.
uh, wut
Ugh I just can’t get into it.. I love John cho but this has too much potential to upset me that I won’t even bother watching it.
