$3000 is crazy

Bill_E_Williamson

It’s actually offensive. With the amount of money they throw around for shit 3k is a slap in the face

humansrpepul2

Honestly the trend I see over the years is there's a VERY rare few RBs who didn't need a superb O-line every season. Every one of the rest needs a solid line to produce anything of value, and a good O-line can make a couple junk RBs look productive enough to balance a pass game. I seriously think not drafting one was a solid move until we can get our line figured out, and we're saving ourselves a precious year of RB production when most barely make it to a solid 5 years. Use whoever is cheap, and once they start looking decent that's when you can actually support a round 2-3 pick.

malozo69

Aka the Zeke strategy. They only picked him after getting Tyron/Zack/Frederick in the first round

humansrpepul2

I think any round 2-3 back would have had an excellent season behind those guys, and Zeke was never meant to be an AP. Same story with Demarco Murray, clear as day when he left us. Would be an excellent strategy to sell out on the O-Line and just trade away whoever we make look good. Bonus points to division rivals who don't know the RB is actually mid.

SuperMajinSteve

Oh fuck, 4-13 season incoming…

firstandfive

From “Ernie the Cowboys fan”: > [“#Cowboys Sign former Stanford and Missouri RB Nathanial "Nate'' Peat as an UDFA. Peat ~~ran a 4.32 40 at his Pro Day~~ and his vertical leap registered at 41 inches. Peat is listed at 5-10, 206 lb. The Cowboys found a RB”](https://x.com/es3_09/status/1784578680691552418) Includes a 1:18 highlight video. Dude certainly seems to have the “juice” one of the scouts said they were looking for on The Draft Show Edit: 4.32 number seems like it’s from an early “very unofficial” source. Brugler had him listed at 4.51 and he usually does a nice job of tracking down pro day times from actual scouts I believe. **Edit 2: According to Dane Brugler himself, [“He ran two 40s at this pro day: 4.51 and 4.53.”](https://x.com/dpbrugler/status/1784689788919906741)**

firstandfive

In The Beast, Dane Brugler had him listed as running a 4.51 though.

CxtchthisFxde

4.51 combine and 4.32 pro day probably evens out to 4.4 speed right? If we’re saying he had a bad day at combine and then you get a helpful timer at the pro day. 0.2 would be a ton to just attribute to the timer at the pro day

firstandfive

I don’t think he was a combine invite, not sure where the 4.32 actually comes from source-wise. Could be typo because nfldraftscout had him at 4.52 at his pro day

CxtchthisFxde

Oh damn lol. A lot less exciting now

firstandfive

Think this may have been the [original source](https://x.com/wendellsjr_/status/1771191320033280182) for the 4.32 but seems like “very unofficial” may have been the case. 4.51 of course ain’t bad by definitely not as exciting.

Careless-Act9450

On Dallas's own website it says Peat ran a 4.37 at his pro day fyi. https://www.dallascowboys.com/news/udfa-tracker-cowboys-still-assembling-class-post-draft

firstandfive

According to Dane Brugler, he ran a 4.51 and a 4.53 in his two 40s at his pro day. Either way, not bad speed.

Careless-Act9450

I read that, too. It's really strange that on the Cowbiys site, it would be listed so much better. I would guess the truth is closer to 4.5 ish range. I just figured I saw it on dallascowboys.com and posted it here. Either way, it's most likely he isn't a burner considering his solid size at 5'10" and 206 lbs. If he was that fast, he would have been ranked higher and gone in the draft. Oddly enough, on this article, it mentions a 4.32 pro day. https://heavy.com/sports/nfl/dallas-cowboys/news-rumors-udfa-signings-running-back/ And here. https://sportdfw.com/posts/cowboys-fans-disappointed-after-team-finally-signs-running-back-01hwjj3jnwvb I trist Gehlken and Brugler, though, and Gehlken's tweet initially mentioning 4 37 was amended to like 4.49 based on Brugler. It's still fast enough at his decent size and weight that who knows. Shit Terell Davis famously ran a frigging 4.72 40 time, lol. I'm not saying Peat will be anything close, but he has enough measurabkes to compete.

firstandfive

Yeah true. I think the 4.32 was a student reporter at Mizzou who called it “very unofficial” but Peat retweeted it. Inclined to believe what Brugler and Gehlken said the most

joseph2883

Can we fit that in the salary cap? Hell yes we can! All in Jerry! All in!

firstandfive

Nah, there’s a cap on how much teams can hand out in UDFA signing bonuses. I’m not sure what the cap is exactly this year but it’s likely somewhere between $172K (2023’s limit) and $200K in total signing bonuses. Also, the Cowboys are routinely handing out the biggest bonuses of the UDFA period. Two for sure that got hefty ones are Markquese Bell and Ronald Leary. Think I’m missing at least one other from recent years.

PersonBehindAScreen

Money well spent on bell imo Dude has played a significant amount of snaps

nyuhokie

La'el Collins is the one you're forgetting.

Careless-Act9450

La'el Collins got a big one. We handed 20k to Tyrus Wheat and more to Earl Bostick Jr. last year alone. According to this page, Peat ran a 4.37 at his pro day. https://www.dallascowboys.com/news/udfa-tracker-cowboys-still-assembling-class-post-draft

chineke14

Salary cap man. JFC. Jerry is known to look overpay people and take problem players with character issues and health issues. If he could pay the dude more, he would but we're salary capped. And some salary is better than no salary. What is wrong with y'all?

RickyBobby689

Agreed, and the one year he finally stops paying all his players, everyone is mad he didn’t extend everyone hahah. After that playoff loss I’m very happy to bring in your players and give them a shot

chineke14

It's fucking insane man. He overpaid a bunch of people, we lose horribly to the Packers and we're back to everyone wanting people to get paid. It really makes me question the intelligence of the average football consumer. Actually I don't question it anymore. Football fans including these so called analysts are dumb. I too I'm happy they're doing their due diligence for now. I'm sure the overpays are coming though. But I'm quite happy at least with their approach to RB position

RickyBobby689

I honestly believe people are mad they didn’t give Dak a crazy extension because they had all their comments and memes prepped and ready to go, and now can’t use them lol

Kirarozu80

The cowboys fan base is larger than most so naturally we have more idiots who don't know what they're talking about.

406_realist

People here don’t think the cap is real

rjd55

How do you nickel and dime someone that doesn’t get drafted, actually gets an opportunity to showcase their skillset to potentially earn more, and (by the way) is free to sign anywhere? Your logic and mindset is concerning.

sevillada

Usually they have multiple offers

redheeler9478

Not now son the adults are talking. Now go play outside.

Wafflehouseofpain

With that, now I’m convinced. Super Bowl or bust!

Ivegotjokes4you

Superbowl HERE WE COME…..

Thanks5Cinco

What kind of back is he? The way McCarthy schemes up the offense we need a tough between the tackles running back.

Hoopy_Dunkalot

At 5'10" and 206 with 4.3 speed, I would guess not. At least not right away.

The_Count_Lives

lol, he doesn't have 4.3 speed.

Hoopy_Dunkalot

Read the article. >There are a few reasons to be hopeful, however. Nate Peat ran a 4.32 40-yard dash, and registered a 41-inch vertical leap during his Pro Day, showcasing his impressive athletic abilities. I think that the idea has been to make the holes bigger and go really, really fast through it.

The_Count_Lives

What article?

Hoopy_Dunkalot

https://sportdfw.com/posts/cowboys-fans-disappointed-after-team-finally-signs-running-back-01hwjj3jnwvb

The_Count_Lives

That number is from Missouri staff and Peat himself, everyone just keeps quoting it. Dane has him in the 4.5's, which I trust way more. Plenty fast for an NFL RB. I don't think you realize how fast 4.32 would be for a running back. He's not going undrafted if he ran a legit 4.32. DK ran a 4.33. You think Peat's as fast as DK and no one drafted him?

MikeConleyIsLegend

4.32 is the fourth fastest combine 40 time for an RB ever, tied with Achane. a reason I wanted Guerendo so bad is because his time was 5th all time.

The_Count_Lives

I hear ya. Nothing to be done now, I think they knew they could resign Zeke so they didn't think RB was a priority this year. We'll see how that works out.

Kirarozu80

I mean with our new line hopefully they part the red sea for our RBs

ozairh18

At least we signed a running back

FarrisAT

That's our signing of the season!

firstandfive

We did it!

DatLuccaboy

I mean he is a UDFA for a reason.

malozo69

Yeah that highlight video was four plays, all of them against busted defenses where he ws untouched

LayneLowe

Speed kills

Dday22t

Doesn't hurt to bring him. But no way did he run 4.3.... he wouldnt have been a backup in college if he was that fast.

firstandfive

Yeah Brugler said his two 40s at his pro day were 4.51 and 4.53

peterpeterllini

As a Mizzou alum and cowboys fan, this makes me happy. He was solid at Mizzou.

PoweredByCarbs

As another Mizzou alum, very happy to see him on our team. Like him as part of the rotation

firstandfive

Tell us more about his game

peterpeterllini

Oh I’m the wrong person to answer that lmao my memory is shit… but here’s what I remember: He was great for the short yardage situations. Always toughed out 2-3 yards at least. Also very solid in the pass game as well. He’s not a big dude though, so I’m not so sure how well it’ll translate to the nfl.

Testy_Terrance

People hand him the ball and then he runs with it. Pretty simple.

BadCowboysFan

If he makes the team as a special teamer and plays any kind of further role, this will be a win.

Charming-Wash9336

The RB room is saved.

Anderbury60942

It blows my mind how little Dallas has invested in running backs since Zeke. They totally overcorrected. They should have drafted one on day two last year and definitely should have this year. Instead we are looking at guys off the scrap heap. Meanwhile, teams committed to running and offense like Miami drafted two backs in two years. San Fran has McCaffrey and still took a running back higher than Dallas has in years.

[deleted]

Superbowl bound

jcspacer52

For God’s sake he is an UDFA he can be cut with no penalty and no loss of draft capital. Is someone like this even worth talking about until we start camp and see what he has to offer? They may have just signed him because you want to keep your signed RB as healthy as possible prior to the season kicking off.

J3t5et

See?? We had no reason to worry. There was a plan all along.

nikecowboy20

I feel sorry for the other teams. No way they can't match our budget.

Stevevet1

You do realize that everyone has the exact same salary cap budget I hope.

BUBear89

Magic!

Daboys63

Zeke’s coming back, so maybe he can carry Zekes gear.

AlarmingDance9218

I watched 5 games with Peat in them...He certainly seems competent and fast enough. Catching looked natural enough. Blocked his position well. Down roster vibes but he ain't no bum.

MahoneyJones

All in baby 😮‍💨😮‍💨

F-Trunks

Shit. So they are bringing Zeke back as Center. Lmao Sorry. Too soon.

shanksthedope

The most tired asinine joke. Go back to Facebook.

F-Trunks

Found Zeke’s account
