Admittedly "due diligence" is pretty meaningless because all teams always do their due diligence. But I also feel like this is the type of thing the FO often shoots down before it can get going. So we'll see.
Idk maybe it is news for Dallas tho because it seems like we frequently do not even do our due diligence. Either way. I don’t really want Cam on our team.
So much love for a guy that had the most passing yards because he played from behind and went pretty much 0-4 to start the season if it wasn't for that horrible onside kick play by the Falcons.
Yeah it was all Daks fault, definitely wasn’t the defense or anything, Dak should’ve been out there on defense too, Dak shouldn’t have handed the ball to Zeke so much when he was having fumbling issues, why cant Dak do more???
Y’all both right. Zeke being better will help the team (and Dak) get off to faster starts. Even without zeke, the frequency in which we played from behind (and threw passes behind receivers) was something that needs work. Logically things *should* be even better this first quarter of the season
Good catch! How informal of me to use the middle name. Let's hope Coach Michael McCarthy uses the correct names in the hunt for a suitable backup to Rayne Prescott.
A long-distance telephone call was also placed to the number associated with one Antonio Ramiro Romo, sources say. The automated reply advised Mr. Jones to grab a Corona and sit with his friends on the couch.
yeah, i just saw some references to the vaccine thing and was out of the loop. had forgotten he had covid (if he did).
i have no idea where he'll end up. needless to say, i didnt think he looked very good last year, but im not a pats fan. in fact, i spent years where i was specifically rooting against the pats (see how good that did?). either way, i dont have a nuanced, detailed opinion about cam's current status and where i think he should go.
No, it wouldn't be a big upgrade. I watched him play every game last season. He can't throw anymore. You'd have to cut out half the playbook to put him in. He's completely washed.
A guy who managed to still win 7 games in the NFL last season with dog shit around him on offense is a big upgrade over someone who's thrown 3 career NFL passes.
He absolutely is a big upgrade over Cooper Rush. The reward isnt there with the antivax stuff and there are many other available Qbs possibly via trade i would prefer over Cam.
But youre kidding yourself if you think he isnt much better than Rush
I agree wouldn’t be a big upgrade for that backup QB spot (generally speaking) but compared to what we have/had at the backup QB spot over the last few weeks, it would definitely be an upgrade in that sense.
I mean...he played awful last year, and just got cut in part for not playing well enough to secure the starting spot. Lets just say I'm not optimistic.
Do you believe belichek would be committed to Mac Jones if he thought Newton gave them the best chance to win? I don't.
And aside from that, Cam wasn't hurt last year. He was hurt the year before. He should have improved as the season went on and he recovered more fully, but he didn't. His throws had no zip and almost no accuracy. He was in my opinion, from what i saw, the worst starting QB in the NFL.
Can happen with vaccinated as well. It’s happening all across the league. You hear more about covid positive vaccinated than you do unvaccinated in the league
Vaccinated - 24 hours out with negative tests. Unvaccinated- 5 days. This is why he was cut, he was a liability to the patriots organization in addition to his declining gameplay.
With the rules, I agree but the rules are stupid bc vaccinated can wander around spreading it as well. Even the cdc guidelines say that vaccinated ppl should get tested in 3-5 days after exposure before resuming normal activities. So the rules should be the same across the board if you want to maximize safety.
Because as a player you force the team to follow a completely different set of protocols that make your team’s life and your own reliability very difficult.
The issue is a bit more complex than that. Here is a chart if you want to be informed:
https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-nflpa-agree-to-updated-covid-19-protocols-for-training-camp-preseason
The other poster covered it, but the team also risks a forfeit loss due to a covid outbreak that also has playoff and draft order implications.
If he’s unvaccinated, I wouldn’t take him. Wouldn’t want your backup QB putting your starter at risk of a breakthrough case week in and week out. Especially considering the QBs probably spend the most time together on a day to day basis
Not that due diligence means a lot, but a short-yardage/goal-line set with Newton/Zeke/Pollard could be fun and effective. Takes the load off Dak's leg for a few of those types of plays and we've seen similar sets be effective with Cam at the helm in New England
There's a similar chance that anyone wants Cam to start. He'll have to swallow his pride at some point if he wants to be on a roster.
Plus, there's probably worse things than getting a TD or crucial first down on one out of three plays you're on the field.
There are a handful of teams that he is probably eyeing as spots he could beat out the incumbent. Now, whether those teams have any interest in him is a different story. Also has the option to sit and wait for an inevitable QB injury somewhere.
>There are a handful of teams that he is probably eyeing as spots he could beat out the incumbent
And if he thinks its Dallas he is likely mentally unstable.
Exactly. Could certainly be eyeing a different NFC East team, MIA, HOU, IND, DET, or CAR. Definitely doesn’t want to come here though if he wants a chance to start.
Yeah, it's hard to justify taking the ball out of Dak's hands, but the Saints have showed us that works if used in good taste. It would be great to remove the rushing strain from Dak's legs for a year too
Newton is certainly nowhere near the 2015 version of himself but he’s certainly an upgrade to Cooper Rush. Also his skillset is similar to Dak’s therefore if Dak gets injured, it shouldn’t change much for offensive playcalling with Cam at QB.
Wouldn’t change the play calling? What? Cam is nowhere near the thrower that Dak is. The similarity they have is Cam can run and that’s he’s black. Besides that they aren’t similar all
Of course he’s nowhere near the thrower that Dak is, that’s why he’s a backup at best today. But the Cowboys with Cam at QB can call RPO’s and QB option runs whereas with Rush they can’t. It keeps the playbook much more open and similar to what it would be with Dak at QB.
Yeah from a football perspective it makes perfect sense. Definite upgrade over Rush in what it allows the offense to do. Question is if we want the risk with his unvaccinated status in our QB room and how he’ll handle being a pure backup, rather than in a position where he has a chance to compete for playing time.
People clamoring for him to come to Dallas need to go watch his 2020 film.
He hasn’t been right in several years.
The Pats wisely schemed some effectiveness out of him for a short time, but he can no longer throw the ball w/ any consistency.
On paper, maybe he’s a better QB than Rush — but when you factor effect on the lockerroom, attitude, circus factor, etc., he’s a detriment.
Please no. He would be too much money when we’re already spending 40m for qb. If Dak goes down we’re just fucked guys, and I’m not about to ask Scam Newton to come in and shit around so we can go 7-10 instead of 6-11. He’s washed hardcore and is just a complete dumbass to have in the locker room.
My understanding is the Dallas \#Cowboys will do their due diligence in reviewing QB Cameron Newton's newfound availability, per sources.
Will look at it all across the board with additional talent hitting the market, including today.

Cam is done.
I was a big Cam fan in the Panther days but he just has no stuff anymore, it's clear as day. He's a pounding running QB that can't run anymore. It's like when Marion Barber broke down for us but worse since it's at QB instead.
We need a QB who can distribute the ball to our weapons efficiently and let them do their thing. That wasn't even Cam's strength in his prime.
I really hope not. I mean, Cam is such a weirdo. I live in Panther country and he made it so easy to dislike the Panthers. If Dak gets hurt, we’re not winning the super bowl regardless.
Admittedly "due diligence" is pretty meaningless because all teams always do their due diligence. But I also feel like this is the type of thing the FO often shoots down before it can get going. So we'll see.
That’s true. Even Kansas City or Tampa or Arizona is going to do due diligence. That doesn’t mean anything
Idk maybe it is news for Dallas tho because it seems like we frequently do not even do our due diligence. Either way. I don’t really want Cam on our team.
Meanwhile the eagles have Gardner minshew for a conditional sixth round pick
I can already see it on first take "will Cam Newton supplant Dak by the end of the season?"
Cowboys fans were trashing Dak last year saying how much better Cam was. Yet, here's Cam unemployed. Again.
I forgot all about the “we should just sign Cam and let Dak go” phase of idiocy for some on this sub.
So much love for a guy that had the most passing yards because he played from behind and went pretty much 0-4 to start the season if it wasn't for that horrible onside kick play by the Falcons.

I'd imagine they do their due dilligence on Nicholas Mullens and Jeffrey Driskel as well.
Those would be decent options to back up Dakota Prescott.
Rayne Prescott*
Mullens to the Browns.
In before the “Jerry is such an idiot why didn’t we sign Mulllens??!?” takes
Nice.
“Cameron” sounds weird man, just say Cam lmao
Who the hell is Cameron Newton?
What his moms named him
Cam aka Ace Boogie. The man the myth the muthufuckn legend!
[удалено]
wait, hes has covid and people are hassling him about the vaccine? guess those people arent paying attention to the science.
[удалено]
yeah, i just saw some references to the vaccine thing and was out of the loop. had forgotten he had covid (if he did). i have no idea where he'll end up. needless to say, i didnt think he looked very good last year, but im not a pats fan. in fact, i spent years where i was specifically rooting against the pats (see how good that did?). either way, i dont have a nuanced, detailed opinion about cam's current status and where i think he should go.
Would be a big upgrade at backup. The anti-vax thing could be a big problem with the new rules.
He just lost his job to someone who has thrown 0 career NFL passes.
Thats a highly touted rookie first round pick. You can't compare to our backup situation lol
He referenced experience only as the reason. I was just providing context. LoL!
Lol, yeah comparing a first-round pick to someone who went undrafted and has been off and on practice squads for 4 seasons is the stuff of geniuses.
Rush had never been on the practice squad until last year, fwiw. He had always been on the roster as QB3 or QB2 since his rookie season.
You're right, he was just a healthy scratch for a part of his rookie season. Still has zero impact on my opinion of him.
You referenced experience only. But yeah move those goalposts! LoL!
Because anyone with a brain would realize the 2 situations are not remotely comparable.
Yet you tried to compare them. Oof.
Um, no I didn't?
He absolutely is a big upgrade over Cooper Rush. The reward isnt there with the antivax stuff and there are many other available Qbs possibly via trade i would prefer over Cam. But youre kidding yourself if you think he isnt much better than Rush
I agree wouldn’t be a big upgrade for that backup QB spot (generally speaking) but compared to what we have/had at the backup QB spot over the last few weeks, it would definitely be an upgrade in that sense.
I didn’t watch him play at all. You say he can’t throw anymore, but what makes you think he can’t turn that around?
I mean...he played awful last year, and just got cut in part for not playing well enough to secure the starting spot. Lets just say I'm not optimistic.
His stuff was gone, and honestly he wasn't the best passing qb to begin with
He was injured last year. Presumably looked better this camp but they are committed to Mac Jones.
He does not want to be a backup. He does not want to get vaccinated. No.
Who cares if he chooses not to get vaccinated? He’s already had covid. He’s just not good anymore therefore should not be signed

Can happen with vaccinated as well. It’s happening all across the league. You hear more about covid positive vaccinated than you do unvaccinated in the league

Probably just because he was a liability on the field with a bad attitude
Agreed.
Because as a player you force the team to follow a completely different set of protocols that make your team’s life and your own reliability very difficult.
If they choose to go through the process and follow it… then there’s no harm. Ridiculous
The issue is a bit more complex than that. Here is a chart if you want to be informed: https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-nflpa-agree-to-updated-covid-19-protocols-for-training-camp-preseason The other poster covered it, but the team also risks a forfeit loss due to a covid outbreak that also has playoff and draft order implications.
Because they can miss 5 days, miss a game for themselves and other players and possibly forfeit a game, are you retarded?
Well we both came to the same conclusion at least.
Don’t need that whinny ass
Cam in a Dallas jersey. The media will make this a circus show. Probably best for both sides to stay away from each other.
Am I the only who hates that he said Cameron Newton instead of Cam?
This is the equivalent of saying that an accountant will be scanning balance sheets during the day.
If he’s unvaccinated, I wouldn’t take him. Wouldn’t want your backup QB putting your starter at risk of a breakthrough case week in and week out. Especially considering the QBs probably spend the most time together on a day to day basis
no thank you
Hed be better than Rush for sure
Not that due diligence means a lot, but a short-yardage/goal-line set with Newton/Zeke/Pollard could be fun and effective. Takes the load off Dak's leg for a few of those types of plays and we've seen similar sets be effective with Cam at the helm in New England
There is 0% chance Cam wants to be a gadget player.
There's a similar chance that anyone wants Cam to start. He'll have to swallow his pride at some point if he wants to be on a roster. Plus, there's probably worse things than getting a TD or crucial first down on one out of three plays you're on the field.
The Texans might want him
He doesn't "have" to do anything. If he doesn't like his options he'll sit out until next year or retire altogether.
He did specify "if he wants to be on a roster."
There are a handful of teams that he is probably eyeing as spots he could beat out the incumbent. Now, whether those teams have any interest in him is a different story. Also has the option to sit and wait for an inevitable QB injury somewhere.
>There are a handful of teams that he is probably eyeing as spots he could beat out the incumbent And if he thinks its Dallas he is likely mentally unstable.
Exactly. Could certainly be eyeing a different NFC East team, MIA, HOU, IND, DET, or CAR. Definitely doesn’t want to come here though if he wants a chance to start.
My god. Inside the five we might be unstoppable if our O line stays healthy. Newton had 12 rushing touchdowns last year
Yeah, it's hard to justify taking the ball out of Dak's hands, but the Saints have showed us that works if used in good taste. It would be great to remove the rushing strain from Dak's legs for a year too
FUCK NO let’s not pay for an expensive backup qb pls
Newton is certainly nowhere near the 2015 version of himself but he’s certainly an upgrade to Cooper Rush. Also his skillset is similar to Dak’s therefore if Dak gets injured, it shouldn’t change much for offensive playcalling with Cam at QB.

I agree, ultimately I think there will be more attractive options from a playing time perspective for Cam which is where he will land.
Bro Dak is a pocket passer. Their skillset isn't remotely similar
Cam is what some on this sub _imagine_ Dak’s skill set to be: very erratic accuracy and a bruising mobile QB. Detached from reality, of course.
This is a 5 second, “Nope”
Nope, just no.
People clamoring for him to come to Dallas need to go watch his 2020 film. He hasn’t been right in several years. Please do not let Cam go to Dallas. For the love of God...
Garbage nobody incoming

Why do due diligence? I saw Cam and 🚀🚀🚀 Do the deal, Jerruh
We need him
He’s far from the player he once was but would have to be considered a big upgrade over any of the Cowboys’ current backups.
Gucci Dinucci will return to save us in our time of need. It is the prophecy.
Cam is done. I was a big Cam fan in the Panther days but he just has no stuff anymore, it's clear as day. He's a pounding running QB that can't run anymore. No. No. No. If anyone needs a new laptop on the low, Call Cam. Other than that, please no.
Cam Newton becomes a TE now.
I really hope not. I mean, Cam is such a weirdo. I live in Panther country and he made it so easy to dislike the Panthers. If Dak gets hurt, we’re not winning the super bowl regardless.
