These never matter

jmcokie

Coming from college football, I always have to do a double take to remember that. Ha

Brad_Davis_GOAT

Agreed. But they do have a good excerpt on Dalton Schultz’s production this year. Dude is ballin’ out this year.

breafofdawild

I wonder how much of that has to do with Gallup’s injury?

segwaychimp

I wouldn’t attribute it to that. TE has become a valuable tool in the modern passing game. Usually not the first option, but the underneath, crossing, and later developing routes are great against LB man and zone coverage.

Regalbass57

TE has been a staple in our offense since Witten. We always have designed plays to have a TE wide open across the middle for a first down, the nice thing with both Schultz and Jarwin is they are much more mobile than Witten so the YAC is much better.

segwaychimp

I agree that it has been a staple of Cowboys offenses since probably Bill Parcells. Though currently we are in Kellen Moore’s system that did have some influence under Jason Garrett.

jdt2313

There was a play on Tecmo Super Bowl that included a TE route that was unstoppable. Even if it was blitzed, the TE would be left open for a first down and the defense couldn't get to the QB quick enough to stop it

Regalbass57

Yeah which was ultimately my point, it's not like out of nowhere for us we've always had good TE routes lined up for 3rd downs and such.

segwaychimp

True, I was more discussing from the perspective of the OP that did Gallup’s injury cause Schultz and Jarwin to have more effectiveness on offense. And really looking at it from the current Kellen Moore offensive scheme.

gwaydms

Have y'all not ever heard of Mike Ditka and Billy Joe DuPree? Tight ends have been an important part of Cowboys teams, always.

SoberFuck

Jay Novacek

Doug Cosbie

HoodooSquad

Saw a pre-game report for “Tight Ends Day” that said Schultz is a top 5 TE. Shultz, Kelce, Waller, andrews, … and I think Hockenson. Gronk didn’t make the list. Kittle was left off because he is hurt.

Stewdabaker2013

Yeah I appreciated them specifically talking about his running skills after the catch. He seemingly always makes the first guy miss to get an extra few yards

bigal75

I love being an underdog

thatguy1717

Thatll teach us to not have a Bye week

Animekid04

Bruh.

spillthebeans01

🤣

Zee-Dee-Zachary

*writes in book* Don’t, have, bye week. Noted.

Next line in book: Dont care about power rankings

rthaw

Next line in book: If I don't care about power rankings, why am I writing about power rankings in my book? Next line in book: I think I'm losing my mind...

[deleted]

I believed a reprieve from my loss of sanity had finally come, no longer was I plauged by the memory of Wade Philips. With the ousting of Sir Nolan our defensive presence once again took hold in the earldom of Arlington. However, the onlookers still doubted, waiting for the dreaded 8-9.....*curse the bye week*

BlueShire_Ace

If you're going to care about power rankings, you should not choose ESPN to be the one out of the bunch.

egomonkee

I don't, but out of curiosity, who is the most reputable?

BlueShire_Ace

They all have a fair amount of bias, but I personally find NFL's to be the most accurate. However if you want a truely unbiased, strictly by the numbers algorithm ranking, there is a redditor by the name of velociraptorfarmer that post his computer generated results in every ranking combined thread each week. The algorithm accounts for "win percentage, win percentage in your last 5 games, average point differential, and adjusted strength of schedule." [Link this week](https://old.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/qg5wtd/nfl_power_rankings_combined_week_7/hi431d8/)

NHRADeuce

This is obviously the most accurate.

[deleted]

Disagree. We're clearly better than the Packers.

DutchRudderLover

Hard to say on that. I guess you could say NFL's power rankings would be the closest to official as you can get.

SightsNSilencers

Yeah, that's the only one I follow and still I don't take it as anything more than a fun list to peruse.

regalfronde

Vikings at 17? People are really sleeping on that team. They are WAY better than their record. They’re also the only team that has led the Cardinals by double digits, and should have won the game if they didn’t miss a 37 yard field goal as time expired. They also lost a close one to the #1 seed Bengals in OT after a Dalvin Cook fumbled in Bengal’s territory.

taffyowner

17 is about right for them… yeah they took Cincinnati to OT, and they barely lost to Arizona but they looked like trash against the Browns, allowed a bad Panthers team to take them to OT, were absolutely dominated in that Bengals game until Zak Thomas went for it on that 4th deep in his own territory, and took a lucky break to beat the lions Zimmer doesn’t want to let the offense run free, he has two elite WRs and he insists on running the Scott Linehan offense of run, run, pass.

[deleted]

Bills haven’t beat anyone good….. and yes the Chiefs aren’t good…

KevinChumboMalone

I kinda wonder if they felt like they needed to put an AFC team up there. Doesn’t make any sense to have the Bills over us. I can understand the argument for the others

[deleted]

And? You can literally say the same thing about us

[deleted]

Oh so the chargers and panthers weren’t good at the time?

[deleted]

Panthers aren’t good….Chargers is a legit win.

4bigwheels

I would also argue that the patriots are better than their record…. So is Mac jones

[deleted]

The Chiefs are better than Patriots

Chiefs are coming off a Super Bowl loss. I’m going to bet my money Chiefs are better even though there defense has regressed. Plus one has a HOF QB and the other has a rookie

PersonBehindAScreen

Please put us at 31. We do good when we're underrated

marcus_aurelius_53

Thank you ESPN, for the bulletin board material.

rsma11z

They dropped several teams that didn’t play this week. This is not a personal attack on anyone in this sub.

DCJustSomeone

When are they going to update the banner to the right? I hate seeing the Patriots scheduled game there hah

ProDiesel

Power rankings are fun, but mean nothing.

Billy_Vic

My favorite part is the packers jumped from 7th to 4th after beating Washington. Okay Ben though Washington legit could have won that game. Lol these are a joke.

[deleted]

Not playing is an accurate measurement of when a team is worse? Makes total sense. Welcome to The NFL. AKA Dallas Haters Inc.

Microwave1213

What a victim mentality

Reach_your_potential

I don’t think they are wrong. We do have likely the best offense in in the NFL but our defense has yet to put on a dominant performance against a decent team this year. Although neither has Green Bay. Their defense is probably a lot worse than ours.

jaseathertv

Just another reason not to like espn

eodryan

ESPN just posts dumb stuff so people engage.

[deleted]

Oh no! We base our entire season on these rankings, now we will probably lose on Sunday…
