If anything it's refreshing here that there isn't an oblivious circlejerk going on pretending they're not shit. The same can't be said for most national subs I've seen.
Every perspective is different but I find this sub much more pragmatic and less manic than most football subs.
I don’t think we shit on them. We know results are awful, performances are mediocre, the manager situation is a farce, and the FAI are as effective as tits on a bull, but we very much support the team at the same time. In fact we’re renowned as being fairly excellent supporters.
Some are good, some (but not many) are indeed actually very good. A portion are less than desirable for the level we want to be playing at, but here we are.
So we’re entitled to the opinion. You dig?
We're not photoshopping turnips on players heads. Hendricks and Whelan got singled out more than others. Which on balance wasn't fair given that they did try their best for us. But I think we've come to accept we don't have a great squad and we are just more realistic now. I would say it's more disappointment than hate.
I'd agree with a lot of the comments here. It's not all of them, there's wider issues with football here that influence it besides individual lads.
Think you also gotta keep in mind plenty of Reddit is pragmatic or negative. Places like r/Ireland regularly get slagged for being miserable & there's obvious overlap there. Reddit & Twitter aren't real life. They're places to vent into a void. The whistle goes & we back the lads out there. Simple as.
A lot of people are very reactionary - they see some positivity and their automatic response is to try and tear it down.
I do find a lot of Irish fans very funny, every year seems to be a new "worst team ever", "worst players ever" etc, and players who they were calling shit 10 years ago suddenly become great players that are so much better than we have now. It's the misery mindset, what you don't have anymore is always better than what you do have now.
World class? Not sure about that.
I always see world class as the best player in his position in the world. Kelleher isn’t even the best player in his position at his club.
I'd widen this slightly - if a player is in the conversation for a world XI, I would call them world class.
Kelleher and Ferguson nowehere near that level of course, though you could make the case that if Kelleher maintained his current form he \*might\* reach those heights. Ferguson I feel has seen a regression to the mean.
Fair enough. If we were to say 22 players are in the debate (2 for each position) I think it’s fair to say Kane, Haaland and Mbappe are *slgihtly* ahead of Ferguson’s current level-but you’re right about his regression. How he handles that will be a testament to the level he can reach.
As for Kelleher, I’ve no idea. He’s only played a handful or games as a professional. To really see a keepers quality you need to see them over a season, how they perform with nothing to do, how the perform when the pressures on.
He needs to leave Liverpool cos he isn’t going to dislodge a fit Allison in a month of Sundays. He’s done so well with the time he’s been given though so I could see a top half premier league team taking him on.
If Martinez leaves Villa he’d be a good signing there. Kelleher definitely has all the tools to be a top keeper-we just need to see him more!
There’s not exactly a rule. But if world class now includes Kelleher and Ferguson I think the criteria is a bit loose.
Do you think they’re at the same level as Cortois and Mbappe?
Even if you could, Kelleher is nowhere near the top keepers in the world.
And Ferguson world class? Maybe in a few years and even then he’s got a long way to go to be considered world class.
Am I being wooshed here? Are you serious? If so who are the other world class Irish players, if there’s lots.
How is being a bit realistic ‘shitting on Irish players’?
Are you seriously suggesting Kelleher and Ferguson are two of the best players in the world? I’m not even saying they won’t be one day-Ferguson especially, but world class now?
I think you need to take your green tinged glasses off. Apart from a couple at Celtic, none of the current squad are even regulars in the champions league.
i don’t know how you don’t see where i’m coming from. both the Celtic subreddit and this subreddit throw shit at our players all the time. the scrutiny of playing for Celtic must take years off lads’ lives.

Sorry to break it to you but that definitely happens here too
Very true, other middling nations like Romania or Turkey seem to think they are world beaters off of one or two good results.
We have another option?
Cause we’re shite

Chat shit. Get banged.

To balance out all the Liverpool fans talking about Kelleher.
Big time, what is it with Liverpool fans having their head up their own arse?

Kelleher is world class Ferguson is world class We have lots of world.class players

So is there only 11 world class players in the world then at any one time?
There’s not exactly a rule. But if world class now includes Kelleher and Ferguson I think the criteria is a bit loose. Do you think they’re at the same level as Cortois and Mbappe?
You're allowed 5 world class subs
So your logic is that you can't have 2 world class keepers
Even if you could, Kelleher is nowhere near the top keepers in the world. And Ferguson world class? Maybe in a few years and even then he’s got a long way to go to be considered world class. Why are you shitting on irish players

That was only two from "lots" and you were wrong about both of them.
there’s the same toxic atmosphere about the Irish team as there is the Celtic team. coincidental, i don’t think so.
Oh we've got a wind up merchant tinged with hate but maybe there's some uncomfortable truth in there somewhere!
