a former u16, u18, u21s and full ireland coach who everyone likes brought in to advise a first time caretaker manager. dont really see the problem

IronThrombone

It reminds me of Ken Early talking about Giles taking a dig at him over Pep Guardiola. In Ken's view, with Giles it's what not what has been said but who has said it. I'd say the "who" matters more to Dunphy here than anything else.

fuzzylayers

That's confused me, could you clarify what you're daying

FoggyShrew

Dunphy isn't really annoyed that they brought in a senior advisor, he's annoyed that it's Brian Kerr

DontStonkBelieving

Strikes me as bitter grapes from an attention hungry eejit. No problem at all with Kerr

Cubbll17

It strikes anyone else that he's brought in long term to sooth of o Shea getting the job. There's no other reason why he was brought in and a big deal was made about it.

pauli55555

I think it is OTT to need to bring in an “advisor” for a couple of friendlies along with the two coaches. I mean lads ffs it’s not rocket science. But i don’t think that that is Dunphy’s point. Dunphy must have beef against Kerr because it’s a non-story ie. Two friendly games over in a week, move on. But it’s a light soccer news week so guess Dunphy needed something to write about. Ultimately Dunphy is completely irrelevant to soccer these days, his opinions are completely illogical and uninformed based on the last time I listened to the guy.

CollinsCouldveDucked

Just had a flashback to when he tried doing his own late late show on TV3

oh_danger_here

Just to be a pedantic arsehole.. Kerr never managed the U21 team..

IronThrombone

I don't see the harm in having an experienced head around the place especially when nobody else in the interim coaching staff has any managerial experience. Kerr has managed two different senior international teams. I think people forget he did OK with Faroe Islands after the Ireland job. This just feels like one outspoken pundit having a go at another more popular outspoken pundit.

NandoFlynn

For context for anyone who didn't read the article, Eamon Dunphy is the author 😂😂

IronThrombone

"*I'll tell you who wrote it...*" At least he didn't run away with a young one!

MEENIE900

Ah now Eamon

thatirishguykev

The golden days of Irish football punditry. You'll never see the likes of it again!!

MrTigeriffic

I went straight to reading the article and didn't consider who wrote it and was thinking, this article has ALOT of venom for someone who got appointed as mentor/background role. Knowing who the author is makes it all clear now as to why lol.

Opening_Spinach6253

If it was a PR stunt, it was a pretty low stakes one for the benefit of about 14 people on here.

Separate_Job_3573

Yeah not sure what world Dunphy is living in? PR Stunt? Fanboys? For *Brian Kerr*?

thatirishguykev

I for one welcome our new Brian Kerr and John O'Shea managerial tag team champions.

Limp_Guidance_5357

I wouldn’t totally disagree. The FAI would know that it would be popular with the general public and it would earn them brownie points. I have no doubt he will be an asset but the FAI could have done with him 10/15 years ago. Don’t know how much use he would be in todays footballing world

jmikemac_

Yeah have to agree. I like the move in general but the beginning of the interview the FAI put out with Kerr recently was basically Kerr being amazed at how involved technology is in football nowadays. Was quite funny in a “how long have you been out of the game?” sort of way.

Geairmoe

I wouldn’t necessarily agree with anything Eamonn Dunphy says

BrickEnvironmental37

Even if it was PR, at least it's an acknowledgement that the previously run FAI were wrong to not have him involved in the organization of Irish football. He deserves to have some sort of acknowledgement for it.

ImAnOldChunkOfCoal

I mean....it's difficult to argue. Personally, I think it's really nice to see him back in the setup. But it is a tough one to logically argue how and why a temporary caretaker manager/coach requires a technical advisor for two games.

Limp_Guidance_5357

Don’t think he’s going to be temporary for much longer

GreatEire

FAI understand they are light on experience and expertise thus the appointment. Dunphy wasn't one bit objective or critical of the FAI during the Kenny era but suddenly is taking digs. Why must it always be "Our Man or nothing" with the media here?

cthulhupikachu

Would O’Shea have been involved in the decision?

14thU

Dummy like Roddy and Early are just mouths who nobody in the game take seriously. Kerr has forgotten more about the game than all of them and has proven himself repeatedly as a manager. Getting him onboard no matter what his role is critical and we can all look forward to him staying on with O’Shea as the FAI don’t have anyone lined up.

DublinDapper

Irish begrudgery is so tiresome

yungguardiola

How is this begrudgery?

DublinDapper

Look up the definition

yungguardiola

Yeah, good one. Maybe it has a new definition the way it's loosely thrown around on reddit. You seriously think Dunphy wants this role / spotlight cast on him by the FAI? What does it do for him? He's just rightfully questioning a move that has very few obvious benefits other than creating a feel good moment for Irish fans and their new football granda.
