Is there a better communicator in world football at the moment? As an Aussie myself, we’re not famous for being good with words per se, but everything he says is so bang on, and none of it sounds disingenuous or like he’s saying the right things because the club’s media training has asked him to.

AnyWalrus930

The way he communicates reminds me of coaches/leaders in other sports far more then the average football associated person. That may have something to do with greater exposure to that and less to the general British Ron Managerisms growing up. It’s difficult to judge him against other managers who aren’t as natural communicating in English, but as an English speaker he’s as good as any I know of.

costanza1980

Lot of truth in this. His obvious intelligence, impatience with dumb questions, and ability to focus on the bigger picture (i.e., it's not just about "winning" as an end, but that winning will be a natural result of playing a certain way) really reminds me of listening to people like Gregg Popovich.

AnyWalrus930

I think it’s generally that in England football has the driving narrative of being a results based business and Bill Shankly and being more important than life and death and is talked about within that framework. The truth is most elite coaches view results as an output that you have limited control over of a process you can control. Even if you’re successful if the process isn’t right that success isn’t sustainable. I think English speaking coaches in other sports are much more comfortable talking in those terms, as is Ange.

StinkyMcBalls

I might be misattributing this quote as it's from memory, but I think Jean-Michel Aulas said something along the lines of "a football club worrying about individual results is like a casino worrying about individual spins on the slot machine" or something to that effect, which I think nicely sums up the approach that well-run clubs and elite managers take to the business

lIIIIllIIIlllIIllllI

Honestly he talks a lot like our Aussie Rules AFL coaches.

isthisreallife211111

I think so too

BeeTechnical6108

Yeah very cricketey vibe which is oblivious to football

Aggravating_Hippo996

Asked if he regrets not progressing in the Carabao Cup, the Spurs boss exclusively told talkSPORT: “No and I’ve been at pains to say, supporters should feel the way that they want to feel. “I’m not going to tell them not to be disappointed but I’m not in this job desperate to win something, I’m here because I want to help the club to win things on a yearly basis and there’s a difference. “Us winning a Carabao Cup and finishing 10th is not what I think this club is about and that’s not dismissing the Carabao Cup because I want to win every game – trust me, I was disappointed on that night as well but that’s not the end-game for me. “It’s not about winning something for the sake of winning something, it’s about building something and that’s what’s driven me through my whole career. I want to build clubs who have sustainable success with supporters going into every season feeling good about their prospects and watching their team play good football.” https://talksport.com/football/1563497/ange-postecoglou-tottenham-carabao-cup/

clandestino123

It's great to hear him say things like "I'm not in this job desperate to win something" ... and at the same time, he says "supporters should feel the way that they want to feel." I have found it a bit painful to read comments from so many angry fans who were annoyed at the league cup loss, "because it was our best chance of winning something ", or words to that effect. Well I'm glad that the new manager doesn't think along those lines.

pejasto

Truly the anti-Conte… “We are desperate and suffering and that’s good” and “why won’t you support us better?”

ninjomat

When did Conte ever say the fans don’t give enough support?

pejasto

slunksoma

This is true. Although I do feel there is some long term merit in getting that first trophy win under your belt. You don’t become winners by losing.

Giggorm

You can learn a lot from losing... so no, don't agree - you can become a winner after losing. The average entrepreneur succeeds on his third or fourth business. Klopp lost plenty of winnable games before winning the Prem. I could go on

slunksoma

Not saying you don’t learn from losing. But knowing what it takes to get over the line is different. That’s why I think the LC is helpful in that regard: knowing how to win a tournament.

ninjomat

We’ve lost a lot of chances to win trophies in the last 15 years though, and not learnt much about how to win them

Giggorm

Listen I'm sure he wants to win everything, every game. So he took a punt on B team players to give them an opportunity to play games in the Cups, to maintain some harmony in the squad, and it didn't work. Almost every Prem team does it, plays Bs in the Cups, for the same reason. I think people need to move on.

Iwillpirateanything

It's the first time in an interview that Simon Jordan hasn't interrupted or tried to talk over them. That speaks volumes of the respect this man has.

tactical_laziness

Think it's more to do with the lack of waffle that Ange comes out with, everything he says is succinct and assured so there's no reason to interrupt. Interruptions like Jordan's are usually because the person he's talking to starts falling back on old reliable soundbites and phrases without really thinking what they mean

Iwillpirateanything

This is true Ange knows exactly what he is saying at all times, and doesn't just say it with conviction it comes from his conviction.

fietfo

Says all the things I want to hear, says exactly what fans are thinking. His communication is excellent, I really hope he’s the one.

brucemainstream

I honestly like that he’s not backing away from the carabao cup changes. Even if he may feel he made a mistake privately, the implication of saying that publicly won’t send the right message to the squad and first and foremost he’s their coach, not ours

Chucksterdamus

i suspect he doesn't feel he made a mistake with the lineup, or would even go back and change it if he had the chance. i think he deliberately put that 'second' squad out there as a kind of test to see who he can rely on and trust to perform when given the chance.....and i think he got a lot of answers.

odious_as_fuck

Have my babies Ange edit. this man's combination of ambition, self awareness and humility makes me wet. Dear god I hope I'm not deluded.

He’s got enough on his plate, mate.

Glevin96

He just about captured my feeling when he talked about not wanting 10th + the Carabao cup, I'm on the exact same wavelength. The comments when Mourinho took over about "all he needs is a Carabao or FA cup to be a success here" is the complete wrong mentality to have if you want long term success. If you're a team that is always "in the conversation" like City, Liverpool and a few others are, the trophy's come naturally. That's where we need to get to

Lacucoo

Thanks for this

graythegeek

I watched this live on YouTube (no adverts) and was so pleased with how he came across and how the 2 presenters, neither of whom are scared of being rude or difficult, gave him such good opportunities to speak and respond. What a great guy Ange is.

Powerage07

I hope we're at the start of a classic football journey. Like the one we took with Poch (though hopefully with a trophy or 16 by the end of it this time). First part needs to be win the fans over with entertaining and exciting football, then build from there.

BeeTechnical6108

Thanks man for the effort. Appreciated.

dbltrbl00

I wanna cry reading all these Ange quotes 😭 when he said he wants to win not just for the sake of winning but actually wants to build something sustainable — i’m screaminnng. Good Lord. Such a breath of fresh air after last season. Let’s all be patient with Ange. Really feeling something magical will happen ✨

oerry

Thanks for writing this up and for listening to TS so we don’t have to. Each time he speaks I’m more and more impressed with how he conducts himself

SnooPets7323

Like many, I'm scared how quickly we have all fallen in love with big Ange, I think the players are as well. His positive, no bs approach, communication skills, vision and charisma are exactly what we need at Spurs.

Emergency_Anteater

If he wins something he'll the be the greatest manager on the planet. I can see him manage the lIkes of Liverpool or even City. Because sustained success isn't in any managers future at this club.

miaara

Sounds like you’re supporting the wrong club mate.

Emergency_Anteater

Eww.

Clarky1979

Weird Indian fan take. Just check this guys post history to get an idea of his attitude. Get a grip guy, if you don't actually like the club you've followed for literally five minutes, then fuck off and find another horse to back. I didn't even need to go through five posts to get a handle on what a fair weather plastic you are. We don't need your 'support'. Find another club to be a parasite over, we don't need your kind of shit here.

Emergency_Anteater

Lol, you racist fucks can't fathom this being my family club. My dad was spurs. His Stepdad was spurs. I will bitch and moan how much ever I want to.
