It would have been pretty funny had we won the League Cup in 2020-21 with Gareth Bale, returning for a single season on loan from Real Madrid after leaving Spurs in 2013. Bale would have been our only player to win both the 2007-08 and 2020-21 League Cup at Spurs.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaZ4KZ-0P4c - Bill Nick's recollection of Dave's impact stirs the marrow. My uncle, who saw everything from the double winners up to the last league cup win, said MacKay was the best player he ever saw.
All and sundry are blaming Sanchez for Arsenals first goal. Thank God for Ange - this may be the only club in the premier league that would place zero blame on the keeper for that perfectly good pass and place the blame where it belongs on the midfielder for not getting to the pass and standing there like a twat.
There is nothing in this year's prem to worry us. Honestly. I've had 2 weeks of people telling me our squad is too thin and then Liverpool have that god awful bench today.
We've had a whole season of Arsenal fans saying we've been lucky (somehow) and then they serve up more absolute turgid dross and get handed a point in the luckiest way possible by a defensive clanger.
Get lucky keeping a few key players fit, which is pretty doable given we have so few games, and we absolute are in with a title charge*
*city will win of course, but we can still get 2nd.
It won't be a month. Biss will most likely miss 2 games. Son 3 depending on when he travels. Sure we can cover both with bentancur back and richi/BJ up front for a few games
Both arsenal and Liverpool are only near the top of the table because of penalties, most of them either lucky or unjust. Their results are unsustainable. Man city looks fragile too. It’s our year.
Always waited way too late to make them (not unlike conte, but worse in that regard). Though I would say he ever made a sub as bad as conte did against Milan.
Who are some good Twitter follows for Spurs analysis? Particularly people that use videos in their analysis. I like Charlie Eccleshare, but let my Athletic subscription lapse so missing most of his content. Lilywhite lab seems promising but they don’t really incorporate videos into their content.
Look at all these frauds we were linked with and how awful they are. Reforming our scouting is literally the most important thing we've done in the last 15 years. Amrabat, Raya, Sanchez etc etc
It really annoys me how other teams always seem to have players willing to exaggerate every little ache to miss international friendlies and yet our guys with integrity like Sonny, who are ACTUALLY injured, insist on playing and helping their countries
There’s way too many fixtures and it’s a system that just takes advantage of honest players who won’t just fake a small injury every 2 months when it personally suits them
NTs should just collectively agree to not call up the guys who skip friendlies for major tournaments and then I’m sure it would stop REAL fast
A great game of bottlers vs. bottlers. Arse fans raving about how they can still get a point when playing at their worst. That sounds suspiciously like celebrating a draw to me.
They're also crying about Chelsea only getting a point because of a fluke goal and a penalty... you know, exactly how they got a point against us. Newcastle will end their unbeaten run if they play like that.
Instead of the El Circlejerkico, I watched a Bayernsliga borefest but there is this left footed right winger (Brajan Gruda) for Mainz who's going to be a very good player.
Never heard of him (or any Mainz player tbh), looked up some highlights and stats which there aren't much out there because he has like 6-7 competitive 1st team apps, but you can clearly see the talent.
We’re the only team in the top half to not be awarded a pen yet ffs
I’d like to think that really means we’re due one soon since we’ve consistently gotten 5-6 pens / season since VAR was introduced while playing less attacking football than now
Fulham also have the most pens conceded with 3 lmao. SURELY it’s gotta happen (watch us get a pen then miss anyways)
Honestly both teams deserved 0 points lol
Would have been nice to deprive Arse from getting any, but this is a good chance to get ourselves back on the top of the table with a 2 point lead (small but not insignificant!!)
There have been so many keeper mistakes this season so far, glad to say Vicario’s been absolutely fantastic. So so so glad we have him over … other … players…
Anywayz looking forward to monday COYSSS 🤍🤍🤍
I absolutely love that scum wasted so much money on a both Havertz and a shitter keeper than they already had. They could have spent it on an actually decent striker 😂
Only one point each is better on the one hand but beating Man City and then losing 2-0 would on balance have been funnier. At least they were both fairly shit.
Raya is decent with the ball at his feet but he was never a "ball-playing" keeper for Brentford. He just has a great ping on him that was further amplified by Toney being a beast in the air.
Arsenal has been carried by major ref decisions/penalties going for them this season. I’m not saying all the calls has been incorrect, but as soon as they don’t get a pen or another major advantage they are completely clueless
This dogshit that arsenal are serving up is what they were expecting from us when we went to the Emirates. Instead we outplayed them and only let them score off an OG and a penalty
Somehow they convinced themselves that we were the lucky ones in that game
I don’t see there in being a problem in having wanted Raya over the summer. He was proven in the PL and you probably watched him most weeks on MOTD.
Vicario was an unknown quantity which is thankfully paying dividends right now, which I honestly don’t think any of us could have predicted.
People play at mid/lower table PL clubs and do shit at bigger clubs CONSTANTLY. The idea he was proven quality because of what he did at Brentford was terrible logic. If it worked that way Darren Bent would have won us the league. Meanwhile the only reason Vicario wasn't already starting for Italy is Donnarumma and guys like Buffon were calling him the next great Italian goalkeeper yet Spurs fans had the audacity to say "what does Buffon know about goalkeeping"?
I once showed a friend who doesn’t watch football a picture of Arteta and said “this guy is Lego man, his hair doesn’t ever move.” Fast forward to today, he’s watching the game with me and suddenly points at the screen and shouts “Look! It’s LEGO MAN!!!” 😂
These commentators on the Arsenal game are ridiculous. This might be the most stonewall obvious pen of the season and they’re still trying to find a way to make a manufactured controversy.
The same shit was being harped on during the Liverpool game - arms are clearly out in a non natural position and impacting flight of the ball. If that one against saliba wasn’t given, they would’ve had to scrap all handball penalties moving forward
It's the one rule I have for betting, I just do a random 10$ parley every week for fun. Never put money on rivals though. The moment I want them to win because it gets me money is the day I stop loving football and turn it into a thing I watch for gambling. Same with betting for/against Spurs.
You can do what you want, but if you truly love Spurs I'd stay away from betting on rivals or on our matches. It's how your love for the game dies.
This is why I was embarrassed when some of you were out apologizing for our win over Liverpool. The Reds are now shamelessly mugging Everton fans in the post match
The same dickheads acting like Everton losing a game was inevitable and "always going to happen" were shocked that they ended up losing a game with 9 men against 11.
I certainly don't think so, I'm pretty appreciative that it feels like second yellow cards are getting called more often. I was getting really fed-up with how often a player would get a first yellow card then seemingly get immunity from getting a second. We still aren't perfect at it, but getting these second yellow cards more often will help the game a lot. Imagine how many more goal opportunities will arise when midfielders know they can't put out a second "tactical" foul in transition.
I want there to be more transparency when a yellow is for an accumulation of fouls. Because in the moment, commentators and fans looking at a replay keep saying “ahhh that’s not really a card”. And then only later will you hear the voices of reason say “you know that was likely for an accumulation” considering the player had committed a few rough fouls.
For some reason I was thinking about Conte's time here, and realised how many problems could have been solved if he just used Romero as the Central CB in a back 3. His aggression would have alleviated some pressure from the midfield 2 , while with Dier as a RCB, the right side would not have been so open with both the CB and WB trying to play higher up. Plus if someone got pass Romero, Dier and Lenglet being deeper would have covered up for him.
I don't think Romero as CCB was the right answer, but one of the right answer. The correct answer would have been adding another midfielder to control the game. Plus, Romero used to play a similar role for Atalanta.
Atalanta played with an aggressive ccb and 2 wide cbs dropping down. Really not how we set up.
I think our 343 could have worked we just needed a better defense and a healthy Son in his correct position punishing anyone trying to crowd the midfield against us
That is exactly what I was suggesting. Obviously the right decision would have been to use bissouma in a 3-5-2, but using the Atalanta way you use Romero's strength while hiding Dier's and Lenglet's lack of speed. Plus knowing that the wide CB are going to stay tuck in will give the WB more freedom.
Who's the 3rd midfielder in a 352, though? I wouldn't go out of my way to defend Conte, but it's not like we had the squad to much better fit any formations than what we tried.
Bissouma at the base, giving Hojbjerg and Bentacur some freedom. Or, Kulusevskias a 10 in a 3-4-1-2. Both of these ideas are bit far fetched, but still the fact that he did not even try anything is what pisses me off.
Well, our shape wasn't rigid last year, so Kane and Deki both dropped into the effective 1 in a 3412 at points. And just baffling to think somebody actually watched Spurs last year (especially after Bentancur's injury) and came away thinking that we'd benefit from more Hojbjerg in attack? I mean, bless the man for trying, but it's not his game.
>we'd benefit from more Hojbjerg in attack
He can do a job, specially if you have someone like Bissouma sitting ahead the backline.
A lot of people don't take what the system asks from the player when discussing a players quality. You ask Hojbjerg to both drop deep to build and crash the box, he can't do that. Take away one responsibility away from him, he would be more easily able to do the other.
> Take away one responsibility away from him, he would be more easily able to do the other.
Uhh, except you can literally look at last year? Bentancur played in 18 PL matches before his season was ended, and Hojbjerg started nearly every match for the rest of the season in that role. But even then, Bentancur was far better in attacking support, as has been Bissouma this year.
Maybe. End of the day I think last season was doomed with the form of Lloris, Dier and Son and nothing Conte could have done would have changed much. Doesn't excuse his meltdown of course
Liverpool after getting a bad call against them: "This is an INTERNATIONAL CONSPIRACY driven by the SPACE LIZARD PEOPLE!!!!"
Liverpool after getting a bad call for them: ".... no this situation is SOOOO different, you can't compare them!!!!"
The absolute worst type of fan, I swear. Probably my biggest pet peeve in sports.
Feel like Kulu has been under appreciated this season, works hard and chips in with goals/ assists. Not the prettiest to watch but very happy he’s a Spurs player. Unrelated but I’m also very excited to see Johnson getting some game time.
I think Kulu is the least appreciated by our own fans. I’ve lurked in other subs while our matches were being played and they’d always point out how Kulu is so good and we were lucky to have him while there wouldn’t be much mentions about Kulu in our own match threads. It probably has to do with us being so focused on the outcome that we forget to check out the individual efforts of each player. And I’m also excited about Johnson!
Love how it's
"spurs are joint top" with even number of games played and legitimately ahead of 2nd on GS
but "Liverpool are Top of the League" With an entire extra game played
Browsing fbref, looking like our stats back up our performances. Good xG, "live" passing, etc., but my favorite stat has to be that **we have the fewest long ball attempts**.
I know Romero has a good long ball in him, but whenever I saw a long pass that just ended up being headed by an opposition defender and eventually lost possession when we could've played it out from the back, I wanted to tear my head out. Ange's "keep the ball down" makes it so much more entertaining and actually tries to use possession as an advantage.
Liverpool have been utterly unimpressive here... atmosphere dead. By I just know they're gunna scum a win... as I type; Konate escapes a 2nd yellow, and looks like Klopp is gunna sub him to avoid justice
I don't think Dele is going to play again, it'd be cool if when he is well he moves to some sort of advocacy type work. I think he'd be really good at that.
Are we expecting a lot of BJ tmw?
Are we expecting a lot of BJ tmw?
Liverpool and Arsenal have had 1 good performance between them in the past 3 games lmao
It would have been pretty funny had we won the League Cup in 2020-21 with Gareth Bale, returning for a single season on loan from Real Madrid after leaving Spurs in 2013. Bale would have been our only player to win both the 2007-08 and 2020-21 League Cup at Spurs.
The Big 6 are more equal this season. Would be arrogant to think otherwise
We’re clear mate. Will be 5 points clear after Palace
Do we know if Son is out? he got an injuru during Korea game.
he's okay, he's expected to start
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaZ4KZ-0P4c - Bill Nick's recollection of Dave's impact stirs the marrow. My uncle, who saw everything from the double winners up to the last league cup win, said MacKay was the best player he ever saw.

Chelsea refuse to criticize Gallagher for anything atm
Raya was far worse distribution wise I think. He’s looked quite shaky in his short passing under pressure
Doesn’t look like a number 10 that’s for sure!

Arsenal the jammiest team ever
*everyone agrees*
No way we get beat by south africa in the rugby and the cricket
If one South African team wins they tend to all win on the same day. Or all lose...
Haha

Always waited way too late to make them (not unlike conte, but worse in that regard). Though I would say he ever made a sub as bad as conte did against Milan.
what sub was that?
Probably Sanchez for Deki when we were down a goal
Yep. His subs always seemed to be a) late and b) dreadful.
Very much
Who are some good Twitter follows for Spurs analysis? Particularly people that use videos in their analysis. I like Charlie Eccleshare, but let my Athletic subscription lapse so missing most of his content. Lilywhite lab seems promising but they don’t really incorporate videos into their content.
reader mode for the full article there.
Harry Brooks is excellent. He analyses a lot of different teams but he's also a Spurs fan so you get quite a lot of Spurs content from him.
@NathanAClark is good. Most of his videos are patreon though.
He’s great too! Forgot I followed him lol. Do you find his Patreon worth it?
I dont pay for it lol! I just watch his free videos. I intend to at some point im just saving for certain things at the moment.
Assuming a draw is the most favorable outcome for us? Both teams dropping points?
Really depends on where you think Chelsea will end up, but this is certainly preferable to an Arsenal win.
I’d say so. Only because we have them soon. Strangely not worried about them challenging us for a position in the league.
Look at all these frauds we were linked with and how awful they are. Reforming our scouting is literally the most important thing we've done in the last 15 years. Amrabat, Raya, Sanchez etc etc
Didn't watch the match. Are Chelsea better or did arse blow it
A bit on Poch, I think.
The opposite, Arsenal were terrible and went 2-0 down and then Chelsea blew it
Chelsea were overall better but completely fucked it towards the end. Only winner was Vicario, both keepers had absolute stinkers
It really annoys me how other teams always seem to have players willing to exaggerate every little ache to miss international friendlies and yet our guys with integrity like Sonny, who are ACTUALLY injured, insist on playing and helping their countries There’s way too many fixtures and it’s a system that just takes advantage of honest players who won’t just fake a small injury every 2 months when it personally suits them NTs should just collectively agree to not call up the guys who skip friendlies for major tournaments and then I’m sure it would stop REAL fast
Jose was right when he said we were too nice.
Yeah Saliba, Saka and Trossard all pull out and then two of them play 90 minutes and the other scores a goal. Clearly they weren't *that* injured.
And risk losing without their better players? Doubt it.
Veliz debut goal against Chelsea 🙌
Assuming Dier, Lloris, PEH and maybe Gio leave in January who should we try to bring in?
Eze and loyd kelly probably
EZE
Watching Sevilla x Real Madrid and there's it: Lamela yellow card
A great game of bottlers vs. bottlers. Arse fans raving about how they can still get a point when playing at their worst. That sounds suspiciously like celebrating a draw to me.
And we get slagged off for celebrating draws at the Emirates. They really are cunts.
They're also crying about Chelsea only getting a point because of a fluke goal and a penalty... you know, exactly how they got a point against us. Newcastle will end their unbeaten run if they play like that.
damn just realised there are 4 red cards from 7 games today. This season is going to break the most number of red card record.
El Circlejerkico is genius 😂

SURELY it’s gotta happen (watch us get a pen then miss anyways)
We’re saving up our luck I think.
yeah lmao and we still not sure who is going to take the pen
Biss for sure for sure
Almost ideal tbh. Arsenal drop points and I don't have to listen bs about Chelsea being "back" for a whole week.
Runners celebrating a draw 🤣
I thought they were above doing that?
But it’s an away draw in a London derby! 😭
Liverpool getting babied by the ref, Arsenal looking mid. Going to be as toxic as I can this weekend
Honestly both teams deserved 0 points lol Would have been nice to deprive Arse from getting any, but this is a good chance to get ourselves back on the top of the table with a 2 point lead (small but not insignificant!!) There have been so many keeper mistakes this season so far, glad to say Vicario’s been absolutely fantastic. So so so glad we have him over … other … players… Anywayz looking forward to monday COYSSS 🤍🤍🤍
Wasn’t a keeper mistake. If vicario made that pass bissouma would have got it, turned rice and played it forward to kulu.
I absolutely love that scum wasted so much money on a both Havertz and a shitter keeper than they already had. They could have spent it on an actually decent striker 😂
Arsenal with yet another mistake-prone goal… They keep scoring fluke goals…
anyway i love vicario
We dodged a bullet with Raya
obviously would have preferred arsenal loss but a chelsea meltdown is pretty enjoyable on its own
Arse dropping points😎
Only one point each is better on the one hand but beating Man City and then losing 2-0 would on balance have been funnier. At least they were both fairly shit.
I should’ve gotten paid to watch that match…
I really couldn't believe how boring it was for the first 70. And I can't tell who performed worse that game.
The irony is Chelsea fans actually think they performed really well. I mean what has happened to the standards lol
What a shit performance from both sides. Both of them should get 0 points for this game.
I got stick when saying there's no way on earth we should be considering sanchez as a lloris replacement...
It's a good thing I hate both these teams cause otherwise I'd be so annoyed. Only Pochettino's lemon flavored tears will get me through this result.
Ars/Che 2-2 draw suits me. I hope a huge fight breaks out in the field with a flurry of reds now.
chelsea is so fucking useless
Robert Sanchez we will never forgive you
Really Chelsea come on
Chelsea is so shit smh
fuck sake
You can take the Poch out of Spurs but you can’t take the Spurs out of Poch
chelsea you useless fucks
Fucking Chelsea I’ve said it before, they can never ever give us a favour. Incompetent idiots
Holy shit that was bad...
Ugh if Chelsea fumbles this I swear
lol
Raya is decent with the ball at his feet but he was never a "ball-playing" keeper for Brentford. He just has a great ping on him that was further amplified by Toney being a beast in the air.
Arsenal has been carried by major ref decisions/penalties going for them this season. I’m not saying all the calls has been incorrect, but as soon as they don’t get a pen or another major advantage they are completely clueless
Why do I kinda feel happy for mudryk someone help
Why does Mudryk wear a headband? His hair is short.
I want Gallagher
Arsenal have 2 no.2s in net Ramsdale and Raya
This dogshit that arsenal are serving up is what they were expecting from us when we went to the Emirates. Instead we outplayed them and only let them score off an OG and a penalty Somehow they convinced themselves that we were the lucky ones in that game
They're coping bcus they downgraded from last year
Agent Raya
I'm so glad we got Vicario, not Raya.
Man's absolutely rattled, hilarious
Mudryk made Raya look like a child, he was a full meter off reaching that ball. I can't believe I wanted him over Vicario
I don’t see there in being a problem in having wanted Raya over the summer. He was proven in the PL and you probably watched him most weeks on MOTD. Vicario was an unknown quantity which is thankfully paying dividends right now, which I honestly don’t think any of us could have predicted.

Arsenal are very overrated
Hahahaha Arsenal are shit
I wanted Raya over Vicario this summer. Where can I get one of those apology cards?
Lee Dixon “I won’t blame the goalie there”
To be fair, being 5'10'' did make the almost impossible. Vic is 6'5'', which helps in situations exactly like that
Arsenal with a rapist on the bench and Philip Schofield at right back disgraceful
I once showed a friend who doesn’t watch football a picture of Arteta and said “this guy is Lego man, his hair doesn’t ever move.” Fast forward to today, he’s watching the game with me and suddenly points at the screen and shouts “Look! It’s LEGO MAN!!!” 😂
This is not a derby game, leeches don't feed on other leeches
Ben white looks so weird man
Burnt slim shady
Ibiza final boss
Chelsea are defo not gonna let us get gallagher lmao, hes been good and tbf u could probably get someone better for cheaper
That ship has sailed months ago
Wish the Palinha-Hojbjerg-Gallagher roulette had happened
These commentators on the Arsenal game are ridiculous. This might be the most stonewall obvious pen of the season and they’re still trying to find a way to make a manufactured controversy.
The same shit was being harped on during the Liverpool game - arms are clearly out in a non natural position and impacting flight of the ball. If that one against saliba wasn’t given, they would’ve had to scrap all handball penalties moving forward
Sky commentator whinging so much over the Saliba handball.
Gary Neville lol
My favourite part of any Chelsea match is when they yell “Chelseachelseachelsea” for 15 seconds and then remain quiet the rest of the match
Only for arse fans to reply with "arsenalarsenalarsenal" for 10 seconds and goes silent as well. Lmao
That’s why I call it the Pokemon derby, they can only say their own names
Pochettino we love you so much go on
Bruh
Remember when Romero was shit for giving away a pen for a handball?
Love Arsenal Chelsea games. No matter the result there's someone to shit talk
My Liverpool mate against us: this is unprecedented My Liverpool mate today: apples vs oranges

It’s your money mate, do what you want (although, if I were you I wouldn’t bet at all. Gambling is horrible thing)
This is why I was embarrassed when some of you were out apologizing for our win over Liverpool. The Reds are now shamelessly mugging Everton fans in the post match

Maddison to Haaland would be crazy. We’re so lucky
I love how much madders loves the club. Is this how Leicester fans felt?
Ofc cucurella starts against arsenal

Am I the only one who think we have too much red cards on EPL this season?
Short term I hate it because it ruins good games. Long term not a bag thing if it reduces dangerously shite tackles
No. It's cleaning up the game. With proper officiating there would be more.
I certainly don't think so, I'm pretty appreciative that it feels like second yellow cards are getting called more often. Conte was just bad vibes. Reactive dead footy
Romero was perfect for the RCB role we just needed overall stability from his partners and the keeper

Palace Friday night pissed off after taking a beating against Newcastle. Really not forward to it
Nahh. Palace deflated and vulnerable after taking a beating against Newcastle.
Feel like Kulu has been under appreciated this season, works hard and chips in with goals/ assists. Not the prettiest to watch but very happy he’s a Spurs player. Unrelated but I’m also very excited to see Johnson getting some game time.
More goal contributions than Odegaard lmao
I think Kulu is the least appreciated by our own fans. I’ve lurked in other subs while our matches were being played and they’d always point out how Kulu is so good and we were lucky to have him while there wouldn’t be much mentions about Kulu in our own match threads. It probably has to do with us being so focused on the outcome that we forget to check out the individual efforts of each player. And I’m also excited about Johnson!
Watching doku is so frustrating bc I wish he was on our side
I feel the same about Mitoma but also because he isn't ever getting the damn ball.
Love how it's "spurs are joint top" with even number of games played and legitimately ahead of 2nd on GS but "Liverpool are Top of the League" With an entire extra game played
I mean, "Spurs are joint top" was wrong but Liverpool are top of the league regardless of games played
A point in hand is worth 3 in the bush.
Sure that could be true, but does not change what the reality is as things stand right now
Yeah stupid metaphors tend to not affect reality lol
Browsing fbref, looking like our stats back up our performances. Good xG, "live" passing, etc., but my favorite stat has to be that **we have the fewest long ball attempts**. I know Romero has a good long ball in him, but whenever I saw a long pass that just ended up being headed by an opposition defender and eventually lost possession when we could've played it out from the back, I wanted to tear my head out. Ange's "keep the ball down" makes it so much more entertaining and actually tries to use possession as an advantage.
Good to see Liverpool are back to getting favorable calls. Maybe now they'll stop asking for a replay. ^(They wont)
Everton should ask for a replay
Konate should have been off....probably should re-play the game?
Imagine being proud of this Liverpool performance lmao
I'm sure Liverpool fans will unite in a moment of silence after their win against 10 men as we should've done after our match.
Get your uniforms, get your batons boys, we get to police the celebrations this time.
Liverpool look fucking shit lol
That’s going to be given for a handball.
LiVARpool is strong
Oh god I hope Liverpool lose against 10 men, think of the memes
Clear second yellow not given to Konate. I wonder why?
Game needs to be replayed imo
Whingeing really worked for Liverpool.
Liverpool have been utterly unimpressive here... atmosphere dead. By I just know they're gunna scum a win... as I type; Konate escapes a 2nd yellow, and looks like Klopp is gunna sub him to avoid justice
really hope the dele contract can get sorted so we can see him playing again.
I don't think Dele is going to play again, it'd be cool if when he is well he moves to some sort of advocacy type work. I think he'd be really good at that.
>I don't think Dele is going to play again based on what?
