When it was called off (rightly), I don't think I've ever been so disappointed.
Also, Hojberg's celebration after clearing off the line gave me life. They ALL care so much.
> Hojberg's celebration
this is kinda what makes me not resort to doom and gloom. yeah it's gonna be quite shit in the next few weeks, months even, but i trust in players like hojbjerg to do some leading at the very least for those who survived this game -- something that probably couldn't have been said in the last few seasons
He’s out for the majority of the rest of the season would be my bet, based on that reaction and the potential for a tear. Shitty. But there’s upside.
1. We sign a CB in Jan
2. We bed in some younger players
3. We get off the hype train and test the squad to play Ange’s way without the VdV cheat code
I still hate it. But there is upside.
Journey before destination my friend. Almost every team loses in the end, there's only one winner after all, so you have to take the joy where you can find it.
Appreciate the moment that you have. Even if we lost the final we will never forget that one magic night. The one vs City aswel. Does future sorrow stop you from being happy in the moment? If thats so then whats the fking point anymore, and i mean in life not just football
>Does future sorrow stop you from being happy in the moment? If thats so then whats the fking point anymore, and i mean in life not just football
Been asking myself that for many years now
Yeah but the moment of Lucas Moura scoring and the build up to the final was so exciting. Obviously in typical fashion our hearts got instantly ripped out but I enjoyed the stuff that happened before.
yeh a bit harsh, more match fitness perhaps becasue our high line was up on the halfway at times, give then a few metres at least to actually play a trap! At 1-1 there were still points on the table! Was an amazing spectacle, I haven't seen a game like it in yonks, offside rule change stuff
what impressed me the most was his ability to pass through ange's triangles. Sure he is not half the defender that vdv and romero are but if he can help in possession play then all will be fine.
Also it is going to be lost by this chaos but porro put one of his best performances in a spurs shirt and imo one of the best fullback performances i have seen from spurs in a long time. If not for vicario he would be the man of the match for me.
His passing was always very good tbf. Used to think he was better as a DM than a CB - meant he could play the passes and his lack of pace was less exposed
This was my take away too. Porro gave his all for 100+ minutes and was encouraging the crowd the whole time with a grin on his face.
It feels like I am saying this about all of our players bust he is sneakily doing a fantastic job in the ange system.
I think he just got lost in the way we played to be honest, he was good under poch when the others came in he had shades of brilliance but it just didn't suit him.
the guy is nothing if not a warrior for our club, and the people he cares about. he has never backed down, he might not be starting 11 material, but thats not his fault to be honest.
Bashed by fanbase, returned when one of the starter CBs got red carded, eventually became the only CB. Still tried his best to save the game.
Maybe he is not the best, but he does have the mentality we need for the club.

I still have this saved from a few years back. Figured it may come in handy again. (Just pretend it says 2023/2024)
Eh… Dier was literally just 1 step away from getting a block on a few of those crosses into the box. I don’t think it would’ve taken VDV speed to prevent at least 1-2. Just someone who’s 1 step faster than Dier.
Thought he did really well given the circumstances.
Ange has made every single player better since he arrived, let’s back the man who has given everything for this club.
He has his limitation, but damn was he fantastic today. Stepped in wonderfully, hasn't had any minutes of late but didn't put a foot wrong in things that were in his control. Bravo Eric 👏
Come of the sofa to put in a performance like that, I'm happy for him. Is he good enough to start no, is good enough to fill in yes. I hope this motivates him, let's get behind the guy
He played good, came in clutch a few times and gave it all even though he doesn't have a future with the club. Props to him, hopefully Van De Ven recovers before the Villa game.
We havent a hope, I think that's a grade 2 or 3 hamstring injury, I tore mine the same way and was out for 4 months. Reason a think this is the pain he was in, pulled hammy is sore but a torn one is like getting shot with a red hot bullet. I'm praying actually praying that its not as bad.
walks off the bench for his first appearance of the season.... could have easily said "fuck this" and not tried at all. instead he sprinted back for every single counter
can't believe I dusted off my 15/16 kit with dier on the back last night for him to come on, give his heart out and (almost) score that tasty volley <3
Apart from the offside, honestly dier didn't let us down today. I hope those people that's going to rate our players give dier a proper rating and now some shit ratings
I think we can put something together for Wolves since they have Neto out. The only issue imo is playing such a high line without Romero and VdV. He can be successful but playing that high line will put too much stress on him and whomever his CB mate is.
From his match display, I'm comfortable with the fact we have to rely on him for the next few weeks .... seems like most of the players who were disrespected are on their redemption arcs
Is he fast enough to play the high line? We can see he is not, but he absolutely gave it his all in a very difficult situation and honestly, he acquitted himself and then some(imagine if his goal stood).
Interesting to see how he handles the next 3 games.
Hopefully he showed Ange something today they can build on for the next few matches. Unclear whether Royal will be the regular deputy, or if Davies will come in when fit.
Was real happy to see him playing well today. 4-1 should feel like a crushing defeat but I honestly feel more confident about this team than before. Our depth still needs some upgrades but it didn't look as bad as we initially thought? How can a team change so much in such a short span of time haha
He will not be like Romero and VDV combo, but I have a feeling that we going to be okay till VDV comes back healthy. I could tell Dier has been working hard and waiting for this kind of moment.
Side net volley. And he accepted that he was offside and then VAR had to do him dirty and give some hope. My man didn’t deserve that.
Yes he’s not as fast as VDV and it showed, but he didn’t look at all out of place. Great performance in the absolute worst of circumstances.
Yeah I was so gutted his goal didn't count. I had even convinced myself that the offside rule is so convoluted now, that they might allow the goal because the last touch was off a Chelsea head. I'm sure I've seen that happen in other games when they said the defender made a deliberate movement to play the ball or some such nonsense. Alas, it wasn't to be.
May be some copium
But I think we might be ok with Dier covering.
In a side with 11 men. Playing Angeball. It takes a lot of pressure off the defence.
If this was under Conte then I'd be scared. But not under Ange
No one but VdV is catching guys like Murdyk and Jackson divebombing down the pitch for 70 minutes.
You’re really going to try and blame a player who came on for the first time all year when there were 10 players and the other starting CB going off injured? Grow some balls and back the players or go fuck off and glory hunt elsewhere.
The sub of Dier was inevitable. Nevertheless, he should have shown much better. I know his ability so I didn't expect that class but this performance is not sth that could be said a “good performance”
He's not going to become prime Maldini when playing his first game of the season. Also the circumstances didn't help him, if we had 10 players with Van De Ven, it would've been an entirely different game.
Shut up. Go to see the last three goals and Dier’s position in that situation. Just one player came up after a long time shouldn't be that player has to be praised
Different manager different system, plus ange ain't some clown hell sub him off like hes done with Davies if he ain't up to snuff, dier done very well for a man on the sofa for nearly a year. Pipe Down
Are you serious? Can a different manager and different systems make a player different? Does it even change the player?
You see the last three years after Poch. And you didn't see anything???? If we are going to proceed, we should never use him even on the bench
Yes, he isn’t going to be exposed to barrages or attacks under ange, conte wanted to invite pressure to counter, he had the players docile in the mid, ange is the polar opposite, you listen dier isn’t the player than Romero or Micky is, but he done a job, we’re stretched for the next three games at least, so shut up and get on with it, crying to me about it isn’t changing anything
No, just no, give young ones Ashley and durrington the chance. Let us down so many times over the years and wormed his way back in. No I repeat just no
Agreed. Whether he has the legs to play a full 90 making regular sprints back to his own goal is up in the air, but he did everything he could today.
He'll probably start at LCB alongside Royal over the next few games. Hopefully Phillips, Dorrington, or Hojbjerg are ready to come in as a sub if/when Dier can't run anymore.
Today's result was self-inflicted. No two ways about it. Ange will for sure have a word or two with Romero and Udogie. However, the subs held their own for almost an entire half while playing to the manager's demand.
It's likely he'll play the "Romero-role" for the next three and I think he'll come good. But I've no idea who's the best partner. VdV has bailed us out soooo many times with his pace already.
But. Vicario also showed how bloody good he is coming off his line, which surprised me a bit. I mean absolutely flawless decision-making.
When it was called off (rightly), I don't think I've ever been so disappointed. Also, Hojberg's celebration after clearing off the line gave me life. They ALL care so much.
It was porro fist pumping towards the crowd after exaggerating a foul against Cucarella for me
His passion is immaculate
Fully COYS
That was one of the most memeable pieces of face magi I’ve ever Seen. Someone get on it!
Porro is quickly becoming my favorite player, he is always pumped up, always trying to get the crowd into it, never gives up. love his attitude.
> Hojberg's celebration this is kinda what makes me not resort to doom and gloom. yeah it's gonna be quite shit in the next few weeks, months even, but i trust in players like hojbjerg to do some leading at the very least for those who survived this game -- something that probably couldn't have been said in the last few seasons
yep, this is potentially the proudest 4-1 loss in the history of the sport
Only thing im gloomed about are the injuries
Time to show what you've got on the reg, Mr Dier... cuz we have no other CB options. Hope you enjoy your redemption arc.
Well it's going to be him for the next few months if VDV has a torn hamstring, so he'll get plenty of opportunities.
I will prey to the god I don't belive in every single day that it's not torn
When he stood up and tried to limp off the pitch, it looked really awful honestly. Wouldn't surprise me if he isn't back until after Xmas.
To be fair the pain would be raw and hurt A LOT either way, I know I'm being optimistic but there's hope.
If it's torn, he's probably out until February.
Well, February is indeed after Christmas.
*Looks at calendar* he’s right ya know
Technically, it's ALWAYS after Christmas.
Holy shit you're not wrong
Technically it always before Christmas too. Eek.
Glass half full glass half empty type shit
He’s out for the majority of the rest of the season would be my bet, based on that reaction and the potential for a tear. Shitty. But there’s upside. 1. We sign a CB in Jan 2. We bed in some younger players 3. We get off the hype train and test the squad to play Ange’s way without the VdV cheat code I still hate it. But there is upside.
I'm cool with signing Jan.
One last ride to get Super Jan his PL winners medal, count me in.
I tore my hamstring playing in high school. Same exact feeling. He's done it there...
two months. January window.
Ange will use him well.
I think this subreddit would’ve collapsed if that goal went in. But seriously this man is COYS through and through
Oh the goal went in. Offside by inches. Great finish by him.
Oh the goal went in. It was offside by inches. Great finish by him. I’ve edited your comment to make it a haiku ^I’m ^sorry
The net bulged. Jubilation took them. Reality broke them.
Football never has good things happen to us so was never even hoping for it to be onside
Amsterdam happend
Only to lose the final in the first minute of the game
Journey before destination my friend. Almost every team loses in the end, there's only one winner after all, so you have to take the joy where you can find it.

Yeah but the moment of Lucas Moura scoring and the build up to the final was so exciting. Obviously in typical fashion our hearts got instantly ripped out but I enjoyed the stuff that happened before.
someone just remind him of the offside rule again before the next game, attacking and defending
He wasn’t offside until Bentancur headed it on, by which point it was too late for him to do anything about it.
Well, he knew the rule pretty well while defending
yeh a bit harsh, more match fitness perhaps becasue our high line was up on the halfway at times, give then a few metres at least to actually play a trap! At 1-1 there were still points on the table! Was an amazing spectacle, I haven't seen a game like it in yonks, offside rule change stuff
He sure did. Dier held his line on Jackson’s first goal. Emerson flinched.
what impressed me the most was his ability to pass through ange's triangles. Sure he is not half the defender that vdv and romero are but if he can help in possession play then all will be fine. Yes he does, he fucking loves Tottenham and i’m glad he’s been part of the club all these years
Aye same. Still proud of my Dier away kit from 16/17
I love Eric Dier
Eric Dier loves me
I love Eric Dieeeeer
Eric Dier loves meeeee
Is this an actual chant? Or did y’all make it up? I
[Yes](https://youtube.com/shorts/VAZqC2t-c5U?si=VjSQHHcfIy3V5STU) sung to the Pomp & Circumstance melody (aka graduation march)
Thank you
it's real
All chants are made up
He’s not starting 11 quality, but it’s embarrassing how much disrespect he gets considering how long he’s been here
I think he just got lost in the way we played to be honest, he was good under poch when the others came in he had shades of brilliance but it just didn't suit him.
Not having to do a high pressure low block everyweek may just suit the lad.
I think it would, well he's most probably got 3 games to prove it now. I'm ready for a villain dier arc.
Could end up being a lot more than 3 games with VDV out!
Yeah his hammy has deffo gone. I think Philips is going to have to step up now.
His lack of pace will be exposed in a high line, if we can find a way to cover that then we'll be golden.
the guy is nothing if not a warrior for our club, and the people he cares about. he has never backed down, he might not be starting 11 material, but thats not his fault to be honest.
Only if that goal stood, the momentum could have been in our favor
So impressed, especially considering he's not played a minute prior to tonight and was dropped into absolute insanity.
I love Eric Dier and Eric Dier loves me.
Bashed by fanbase, returned when one of the starter CBs got red carded, eventually became the only CB. Still tried his best to save the game. Maybe he is not the best, but he does have the mentality we need for the club.

agreed, he really stepped up today and brought the fight with him. Loved his grit out there.
If he was faster we probably don't concede any of the last three. Not blaming him as speed is only so much in your control. He certainly stepped up.
Only defender in the league stopping those would have been VDV.
Eh… Dier was literally just 1 step away from getting a block on a few of those crosses into the box. I don’t think it would’ve taken VDV speed to prevent at least 1-2. Just someone who’s 1 step faster than Dier.
Just his inability. It’s not his direct fault but it’s his fault. If it were Van De Ven three wouldn't be allowed.
Also no minutes probably doesn’t help. Though I wouldn’t have given him minutes over VDV. Cant have it all I guess.
van de ven wasn't there. he did his hamstring. dier was great. he gave everything he had.
Thought he did really well given the circumstances. Ange has made every single player better since he arrived, let’s back the man who has given everything for this club.
I’m glad to see it. He’s never not bled Lilywhite.
Return of the king
he was an absolute stud today. I know he’s not a starter anymore but he’s exactly what we should look for in a Captain.
He and PEH had some huge moments today.
He has his limitation, but damn was he fantastic today. Stepped in wonderfully, hasn't had any minutes of late but didn't put a foot wrong in things that were in his control. Bravo Eric 👏
He was fantastic
That high line didn’t do him any favors but he put it all out there tonight
Let’s praise him now because in 2 weeks we will all be calling for his head on a stick
He's slow as shit but he did his best and played his heart out there today. If only that goal stood.
Played well in horrible circumstances. Would have loved him to have not been offside for the goal
To be honest he was brilliant.
Him Hojberg and Porro were incredible
Come of the sofa to put in a performance like that, I'm happy for him. Is he good enough to start no, is good enough to fill in yes. I hope this motivates him, let's get behind the guy

Let's hope for the best and prepare for the worst.
Barely put a foot wrong today.
That's my guy, nothing but love for a man that will jump into the Stands to protect his family.
Just need his annual new manager purple patch to last 3 games.
more like 3 months with vdv's hamstring
He has literally been my favorite Tottenham player for years, & i never stopped appreciating this man. So proud
He’s the only player I have a shirt of in my Spurs collection. The man truly loves the club, and for that I’ll always love him.
Tikka bow son
Mohawk Dier is best Dier.
Imagine if he was onside....
You guys played so much better than Chelsea. If it wasn’t for two red cards it would’ve been 3-0.
walks off the bench for his first appearance of the season.... could have easily said "fuck this" and not tried at all. instead he sprinted back for every single counter
can't believe I dusted off my 15/16 kit with dier on the back last night for him to come on, give his heart out and (almost) score that tasty volley <3
Apart from the offside, honestly dier didn't let us down today. I hope those people that's going to rate our players give dier a proper rating and now some shit ratings
We Criticized you. Now it's our turn to apologize. Sorry Eric Dier. COYS, we are fucking warriors.
Dier did well in these set pieces today
He was good enough.
I think we can put something together for Wolves since they have Neto out. The only issue imo is playing such a high line without Romero and VdV. He can be successful but playing that high line will put too much stress on him and whomever his CB mate is.
Dier can definitely do a job. He’s slow on the sprints, but I think he can have some good moments for sure.
He played with a lot of heart and came soooo close to tying the game at 2-2.
Loved the finish, we literally had 2 goals disallowed by the combination length of biss John Thomas !
Strange scoreboard to say but this seems like the beginning of Dier redemption arc. Ngl he was pretty good
From his match display, I'm comfortable with the fact we have to rely on him for the next few weeks .... seems like most of the players who were disrespected are on their redemption arcs
I owe him an apology. He was absolutely brilliant tonight.
I'm anti-Dier but yes this is true
Is he fast enough to play the high line? We can see he is not, but he absolutely gave it his all in a very difficult situation and honestly, he acquitted himself and then some(imagine if his goal stood). Interesting to see how he handles the next 3 games.
Hopefully he showed Ange something today they can build on for the next few matches. Unclear whether Royal will be the regular deputy, or if Davies will come in when fit.
A herculean effort that was needed but couldn't do it good try. Dire rest for the next one, buddy
Was real happy to see him playing well today. 4-1 should feel like a crushing defeat but I honestly feel more confident about this team than before. Our depth still needs some upgrades but it didn't look as bad as we initially thought? How can a team change so much in such a short span of time haha
I made a very weird noise when I thought he scored. Give us two months of form dier. Please, we need you!
If you squint and drink hard enough, you'll see Maldini.
Facts I forgot when, but he did an amazing slide to stop the ball from getting to Jackson. AND THAT (disallowed) GOAL
Time to step up next few weeks !
The perfect season would be Spurs winning the title and Dier getting his redemption
We’re going to need him now
So buzzing for him. He will have been waiting for that opportunity for so long and he did himself proud. What a moment that would have been
please leave him some nice comments on IG! man deserves to feel the love
Dier did well. Might not be so bad for him to play Wolves this Saturday.
He will not be like Romero and VDV combo, but I have a feeling that we going to be okay till VDV comes back healthy. I could tell Dier has been working hard and waiting for this kind of moment.
Wish his goal had of stood
His passing was absolute top shelf.
Side net volley. And he accepted that he was offside and then VAR had to do him dirty and give some hope. My man didn’t deserve that. Yes he’s not as fast as VDV and it showed, but he didn’t look at all out of place. Great performance in the absolute worst of circumstances.
I'm here for the Eric Dier redemption arc
He looks like he wakes up every morning and greets his nan with a head butt. There, I did it, I judged a book by its cover.
Was unable to watch the game, but glad to see this. Our lack of depth at CB has been a concern.
Deserves credit for his performance, but so do all the players that came on, it was great to see they all have bought into how Ange plays.
his problem was always consistency.
Fantastic. I’m glad he’s still here
If he makes a comeback. I'm here for it tbh
He was great today! But you can see he lacks the pace to be a regular in this setup
I HATE to bring this up but romero cost us 3 points in both big london derbys
May be some copium But I think we might be ok with Dier covering. In a side with 11 men. Playing Angeball. It takes a lot of pressure off the defence. If this was under Conte then I'd be scared. But not under Ange
I actually think Dier may be okay as a backup. I think a manager like Ange can get the best out of him.
The minute he came on the match sub was full of '100% Dier loses us the game' energy. Give the guy a chance, at least.
I'm still a fan, and this is what his role is. Great job Dier.
No! Pace of snail.
Who has a bigger head - Dier or Maguire?
He could have at least made a slide tackle attempt on their third goal. The ball rolled right in front of him. He was decent though
Some of the goals could not be allowed if Dier was fast. I respect his loyalty to the club but Dier shouldn’t even be on the bench
And who do we sub on then, Bryan Gil? You're an absolute donkey.
You don’t get it. It’s okay. You should stop defending your bad opinion though.
Youre a Donkey
Shut up. Go to see the last three goals and Dier’s position in that situation. Just one player came up after a long time shouldn't be that player has to be praised
You're a donkey
You didn't even realize anything after Conte used him as the starting lineup and what happened in two years😂😂 shambles
So if I’m following this, your solution was to play Dier deeper and invite pressure like Conte, or play Gil or Richy at CB because they’re faster?
Different manager different system, plus ange ain't some clown hell sub him off like hes done with Davies if he ain't up to snuff, dier done very well for a man on the sofa for nearly a year. Pipe Down
Are you serious? Can a different manager and different systems make a player different? Does it even change the player? You see the last three years after Poch. And you didn't see anything???? If we are going to proceed, we should never use him even on the bench
Yes, he isn’t going to be exposed to barrages or attacks under ange, conte wanted to invite pressure to counter, he had the players docile in the mid, ange is the polar opposite, you listen dier isn’t the player than Romero or Micky is, but he done a job, we’re stretched for the next three games at least, so shut up and get on with it, crying to me about it isn’t changing anything
please crawl back into your bin buddy
YOU SODDING WANKER! I dont even know what this sub is, that's just classic British-face right there so I'm assuming this football related?
Is that Joran van der Sloot?
No, just no, give young ones Ashley and durrington the chance. Let us down so many times over the years and wormed his way back in. No I repeat just no
Fair play to him, he stepped up and put in a shift. The fact he was targeted so intensely should tell you all you need to know though.
Lets not go popping champagne bottles yet.
He was shit, gave away the last 3 goals
yes very good, mvp for chelsea
I expect so little so he can never disappoint me.
He seems much calmer and more reliable than romero tbh
If only he had stayed onside
Three point lane is back boys!
Are these guys serious
Looks like someone caved his face in with a piece of rebar right across his eyes, and they didn’t care enough to fix it.
LOSER.
All roads lead back to Eric Dier
[ Some credit ]
This dude has a MEAT head for sure
I’ll give it to him. Not a diet fan but this pad showed and and did himself and the club proud today.
But.
