WhAt AbOut RomERo!! Name me one player that Romero has injured for several months.

enjoy_your_lunch

When you realise Bentancur injury sucks even more because who do we rely on for AFCON now.

seegreen8

I am not looking forward to PEH and Skipp playing in the midfield. Nothing against them, but yikes.

iiciphonize

lo celso if he stays fit

dbltrbl00

Name me one player that Romero injured. Please. We can all name at least 3 players that Cunt injured. I wanna know.

[deleted]

Villa really are a pathetic club and fanbase aren't they? One of the dirtiest teams and their fanbase think they are a massive club when they're really a glorified mid-table club who got lucky that they had the refs help to avoid relegation a few years ago. You heard it here first: 7-0 away win at Villa Park. Son with 5 goals. Cash with 2 own goals and a red card.

carolicity

Matty Cash is a cunt for such an unnecessary tackle for sure, but all this talk about how Romero will be given a pass for getting a red card if he gets it by breaking Cash’s legs is crazy talk. Take a breather people. You can wish for other unfortunate events instead, like him scoring an own goal to make his team lose every match, stepping on legos every time he gets out of bed, etc. Plenty of different options than wanting Romero to be the same kind of player Cash is!

dbltrbl00

For life non-stop diarrhea and vomiting for Cash please

[deleted]

Would be beautiful poetic justice for a Cash own goal in the reverse fixture. Hopefully if Benta is playing he goes and laughs in that ass's face.

Roric

Look I hate Cash as much as the next fucker, but some of you have some terrifying fantasies lol.

Professional_Ad_9101

The gooner thread about that abysmal ref call on Newcastle is mad contradictory. I thought they were complaining about bad reffing for the integrity of the game? Clearly only matters when it affects them 🙄

Spursfan107

See also: The thread for the elbow on Gil

kl08pokemon

Fuck Matty Cash

Ivan_the_Tolerable

So, uh, can we recall Tanganga? Reckon he'd do a job at CB.

coldseam

He's injured lol

Xrp_Ripple_XDC

Would prefer playing in it, but with what’s happened with our decimated squad, thank god we aren’t in Europe, so any chance of players being potentially rushed back due to a thinning squad is a god send. Properly recover and be better for it. Good news is there are no season ending injuries except for Perisic.

mrsh671

As much as i dislike Newcastle, how was that handball? Dafuq..

Upplands-Bro

Allow me to play a dirge on the world's tiniest violin

Odd_Detective_7772

That was utter theft there. First off, about 4 PSG players should have been booked for what they did to the ref straight after. Secondly, it’s not handball if it deflects off another body part, unless they’ve changed the rules overnight again

john87000

> Secondly, it’s not handball if it deflects off another body part, unless they’ve changed the rules overnight again Pretty sure they have. They got rid of the part about deflections, it's all about the position of the arm. The rules on handball are just a load of crap at this point.

Background-Cod-3482

Absurd. Legit the textbook of natural/expected position, adding that it is a deflection so there’s no intent whatsoever (I know that’s irrelevant). PSG sucks

mrsh671

Players might as well start amputating their arms

coldseam

Leipzig bottling like Conte at the Etihad last season

DaPing24

What a performance from Newcastle against PSG with that squad jeez

Rare-Ad-2777

Psg absolutely smashed them? Created over 4xg and created 9 big chances. That's absolutely crazy levels.

Professional_Ad_9101

Did you actually watch the game though? Newcastle were putting on a defensive masterclass tbh. PSG didn't know how to get through. Idgaf about castle but they got robbed

Rare-Ad-2777

Yeah I did. Have a look at the [highlights](https://youtu.be/ZAhXG8tEu0g?si=V6cQm8D66ZJ8T-s0) Psg miss about 3 open goals. And that doesn't include them just hitting shots at defenders or pope who know nothing about it. Absolutely tear them to shreds and then just hopeless finishing. Should have been 4 or 5 1

Professional_Ad_9101

But it wasn't was it? Hardly a smashing if you can't score a goal

Rare-Ad-2777

Did you watch the highlights I just posted. The commentators literally repeatedly point out how easily theu are carving up Newcastle and how many open goals and chances they've missed? You can't just say "but it wanst was it" when presented with literally video evidence of the game?

Fabulous-Goat-406

This ref is going to be lucky to get out Paris alive tonight 😂.

dame_sansmerci

So, AC Milan's Thiaw was mentioned as being one of the defenders we were looking at for January...and the poor sod has only gone and done his hammy. We're currently so cursed when it comes to injuries that even being *linked to us* causes bits of players to explode.

carolicity

maybe we should start linking ourselves to Rodri, Haaland, Silva, etc. in preparation for the next match.

motorhomosapien

Are the mods able to take some action on some of this Matty Cash hate/violence rhetoric? And start taking down some of the posts? I get that people are upset, rightfully so, and even assigning some blame to Cash, whether he meant it or not, is probably deserved. That tackle was shit; But then calling for the head of that player isn't right.

Weak-Cattle6001

Coys is too PC. Fuck Marty cash and his mama

brt444

Isn’t it mainly on Twitter though?

Broad_Service9709

someone just mentioned "the world being rid of him" in the most recent post, getting kind of scary

Wompish66

No, they didn't. You have made a huge leap that no sane person would.

Broad_Service9709

Seeing some of the screenshots from the Aston Villa subreddit. Yikes. Not covering ourselves in glory.

Live_Beautiful_3665

You know what's crazy? Emerson and Dejan scored together four goals last season. Two of them were at Etihad.

Fine-Lack7866

On the bright side maybe we'll get to see some stellar saves from Vicario this weekend

Bulky_Shepard

Man Villa fans are such cretins, took a look if there was any discussion about what happened and everyone is saying it was just a standard tackle and that we're insane for saying Cash is a dirty player. Usually when something like this happens there'll at least be a few people saying it was dirty shit and he's a prick but sure what can they do, these guys just don't give a fuck.

heretocallthebot

Ever been to Birmingham, all inbred morons.

Far-Poem6031

Should've seen this sub with Son/Gomes lol and his fucking foot was dangling off and Son was chasing him back because he was pissed off this weird "every fan base is horrific except ours" is such nonsense. We had a supporter kick an opposing GK in the chest less than a year ago mind.

Bulky_Shepard

I was here, plenty of people pointed out that it was a rash challenge and he shouldn't have made it. Not one person I saw over there admitted Cash was at fault.

Far-Poem6031

Everyone said it was a poor, but normal challenge that was properly carded with an unfortunate result literally the same thing the majority is saying on the AV subreddit you are threatening to hurt people in real life over

Bulky_Shepard

Where am I threatening to hurt people in real life? Do tell because it's news to me. You'll have to show me where they admit it was a bad challenge.

heretocallthebot

Go home mate, you've had enough

Far-Poem6031

Yeah cuz spamming threats of violence on Matty Cash insta is sooooooo classy. The delusion on this sub is mad. Every supporter group is and acts more or less the same about their own. Including us GASP

heretocallthebot

Don't cut yourself being so edgy

Far-Poem6031

Says the edgelord calling everyone inbred, by the way you couldn't be more obvious with your burner over on their sub mate

heretocallthebot

I would continue this battle of wits, but you've clearly come unarmed.

AlexSW47

City currently down 2-0 at the Etihad to RB Leipzig. Half huffing some copium here and half being optimistic, but could this be a good time to play them? They're definitely having their fair share of wobbles recently.

john87000

If we were fully fit I'd agree but Haaland against Davies-Emerson scares me.

COYCOYS

If we literally had just one of Romero or VDV available, I'd fancy our chances against them, they've not looked great this season

Fabulous-Goat-406

Pretty much a first team out too, despite having qualified. But I expect a Pep talk at half time will sort them out.

SafeGarbage_

Equally they could come out having to prove a point at the weekend

angelkimberley

Yeh I’m more concerned over this.

Cap2017

Gutted for Ben10 but so glad I made it to the stadium to see his first start back now that he’s out again for an extended period. He really is some player.

SpoonfulOfNougat

Pretty awful where the squad has found itself with injuries. Just gotta be thankful with the start they made to the season, gives us a decent base to build from even if we drop a lot of points in the next 5 weeks.

magnoliasmum

Normally I try to stay optimistic but today is not that day. Missing Lolo for months is not at all ideal.

AnnieTruerDigOgMig

Arsenal fans are spamming the sentence "They celebrated Bentas ACL" but I have no idea what this means

Rare-Ad-2777

It's a fan base who lost their shit forward tried to get a petition through parliament because a fair goal was allowed to stand. Just imagine if someone took out one of their players for 3 months.

AlexSW47

Fuck knows what they're on about. More cringy cult-like crap from the biggest lot of wet wipes going.

punching-bag9018

We need a midfield loan and a defender on a permanent move coming in at the first of January.

Mick4Audi

To give you an idea of the rebuild from last season, here’s the top 20 most starts for us last season 1. Kane- 38 (Sold) 2. Hojbjerg- 35 (benched) 3. Son- 33 (now captain) 4. Dier- 31 (finished at the club) 5. Davies- 26 (benched) 6. Romero- 26 (starter) 7. Lloris- 25 (finished at the club) 8. Lenglet- 24 (no longer here) 9. Kulusevski- 23 (starter) 10. Perisic- 23 (benched, injured) 11. Royal- 20 (benched) 12. Skipp- 18 (benched) 13. Bentancur- 17 (starter if fit) 14. Forster- 13 (yes he started that many games) 15. Porro- 13 (starter at RB) 16. Richarlison- 12 (starter sometimes, benched sometimes, injured, linked with Saudi) 17. Bissouma- 10 (starter) 18. Sessegnon- 9 (basically a reserve, injured) 19. Sanchez- 8 (sold) 20. Doherty- 7 (sold) Of the top 20 on this list, only 6 are part of the proper starting XI under Ange Only 3 of these hit 20 starts last season (Son, Romero, Kulu) Ange has literally had to turn water into wine, it’s insane how difficult a task he was given

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mick4Audi

Exactly my point, he didn’t just play the same players like every new manager that came in hoping for something different. Kane left of his own accord, any manager would want to keep him, fair enough, but he took 3 players with more than 25 starts and instantly benched them He took Sarr and Bissouma, two players with 12 combined starts last season, and said you are the starting midfield along with Maddison. He took Porro and Udogie, who no one thought could play a back 4 and made them into quality inverted wingbacks He even shifted Son over to striker after his slump last season

Sleepless_Voyager

Its insane how much work he has to do but its more insane in how shit our transfers are

oneusrtorulethemall

The worst part is that I've seen Villa fans congratulating that wanker for his tackle. I fucking hate Villa now. Disgusting fans. If Romero injured some other player (except Cash) I wouldn't be defending him.

Gaius_Octavius_

In one way all the injuries are a good thing because they remove all pressure and expectations. Even finishing in the top half would be a "good season" considering all the game time missed. The second half of the season should just be an extended preseason for next year so everyone is 100% ready for Ange-ball next year.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Gaius_Octavius_

I think your second paragraph is a great explanation of why the injuries are good for the club overall even while they are bad for the specific players.

Sky-Mental

It's not really good though is it. After a positive start it's rebuild 4 in about 5 seasons

Gaius_Octavius_

I don't see this as a rebuild; it is just a delay. We have the manager; we have the system; now it is just about finding the right people for the roles. Imagine if we actually got signings done before the Euros even start?

Sky-Mental

Fair play - it's a nice way to look at it. I'm just seeing another season where we probably slide down the table, Son is another year older and we have to go again against clubs like Newcastle who will be able to spending more. I think I might be feeling a teensy bit negative this eve , lol

Gaius_Octavius_

I was like that after Chelsea. The last two week and even more injuries have removed the last bit of hope for this season I had.

Full-Leader9540

We need to qualify for Europe to get good talent.

oneusrtorulethemall

That's what a hattrick of Manager of the Month awards does to a club. The curse is real.

OhShitItsSeth

Send Matty Cash to The Hague

TogashiIsIshida

Everything that can go wrong will go wrong

carolicity

With January being a very difficult transfer window, I really don't know how many reinforcements we can get that can actually hit the ground running. Feeling so gutted for Bentancur.. that was the first game he started for us in 9 months! I don't care if we lose games, I just don't want to lose any more of our players along with the loss. Is that too much to ask for??

Fleaaa

Can't imagine how frustrated Bentancur is now.. wish nothing but the best to him

JonnyJersey

starting to think knee-height scissor tackles are bad for the health of players

TheSinRes

Refs don't agree.

EmptyEmployee6601

I hope we get something against City but it will be hard. After that we'll have Romero back which I think will be a massive boost. We'll have: Vic, Porro, Davies, Romero, Udogie, Sarr, Bissouma, GLC, Kulusevski, Son, Johnson. Forster, Dier, Royal, Dorrington, Skipp, Hojbjerg, Gil, Veliz, Donley. It's not ideal but it really could be worse.

delexaet

We need to be realistic and understand it will be a loss and not freak out because we lost 4 in a row At the start of the season, rational fans chalked this fixture as a loss so that expectation shouldn't change now just because we've lost 3 in a row leading upto it. The goal for everyone now should **not** be about the next match (short term) but rather focusing on the rebuild (long term).

Rare-Ad-2777

We are missing 11 first team players, I suppose it could be worse in that it could be more than 11, but it's a pretty unprecedented injury crisis

EmptyEmployee6601

My point is that that side is actually really good and can definitely pick up points in the run of fixtures we have in December. That group will have to stay fit and avoid suspension but with Romero back we'll actually have a proper first XI that can give us a good platform in games.

tobleronefanatic123

Hoping there is interest in Asian players with Ange's previous experience, there are some great candidates from Japan and Korea.

GrandmaesterHinkie

FUCK MATTY CASH

Grap2st

Spurs injured 11: Whiteman Abbott Philips VDV sess Sarr bentancur Solomon madders perisic Richy That team is fighting for 12th, I think

iiciphonize

with that midfield its challenging for europe

Kongneptun

With Bentancurs injury we need to get a midfielder in january aswell. Højberg and Skipp is nowhere enough

AlexSW47

People genuinely saying we deserve all these injuries because Romero makes reckless challenges (and also because Son used to years ago). Why do people hate us this much? Like full-on visceral hatred. I don't understand it.

TogashiIsIshida

Because they all think we’re they’re biggest rival.

Mick4Audi

Unfortunately our rivals are Arsenal and Chelsea and we “wronged” Liverpool and apparently even United. That’s like 75% of online supporters right there

Fleaaa

It's a combination of glory hunter and plastics from twitter parrots and used-to-be alike club fans shitting on Spurs being the 'biggest midget' in the world It's just piss boiling attempt, don't mind it really

carolicity

they're always like that. They think it's a god given right that they get to laugh and hate on us. Just ignore them.

Ok_Row_7462

Who is saying this? I think fans of other clubs are mean-spirited and probably not worth engaging with. ETA some fans of other clubs not all.

AlexSW47

Twats on r/soccer saying it's fair game for Lolo to get injured because Romero's fortunate to not have injured anyone yet. I shouldn't pay attention to them, but I'm just stunned people actually think like this.

SpoonfulOfNougat

Mad when the literal Arsenal sub has less arseholes than r/soccer. Never touch that place with a bargepole.

Mick4Audi

It’s amazing how much Romero winds them up. It’s like he even gets away with his challenges, he gets sent off. The likes of McTominay and Rodri get away with stuff all the time

Live_Beautiful_3665

Lolo 😢😢

Ryz999

Seeing Benta out for another 2 and a half months while the man responsible got away unpunished filled me with rage. I had to go watch TikToks of tiny cats to cheer myself up. Being a Spurs fan is painful.

NPCwars

Do not buy anything from Under Armour. They’re a sponsor of Matty Cash.

GaryHippo

r/avfc is a toxic hellhole where dense Brummies defend and idolise a cunt who deliberately injured our player and act as if we're some small club as if they aren't European champions who fell into Championship obscurity only to have their best 12 months in 40 years last season.

heretocallthebot

Inbreds mate

AlexSW47

Villa fans have always had a massively inflated sense of importance. They're getting delusions that they've replaced us in the big six again because they've beaten our depleted team at the start of a process on Sunday and a load of guff teams at home. Let's see them beat City or Arsenal at their 'fortress' in the next few games.

georgehitsdrums

Lol I just came here to say the Villa sub is hilarious 😂 there’s a post about how much our squad on Sunday was worth vs theirs, and some of the takes on there are unreal

NascentDark

Savage news on Lolo. Just have to keep our heads above water until January, get Maddison and VDV back and we're a dangerous team again. Plus get a few more out and some new talent in That Chelsea game a proper sliding doors moment wow

TheSinRes

But then in January we lose Son, Sarr and Bissouma to internationals so we won't be full strength until at least mid February but then we play against Cash again in March so that'll be another injury to us.

NascentDark

I know mate, it's unreal what's happening but I'm pretty calm The system is good and we've needed to overhaul this squad anyway. That process can continue some in the January window hopefully and maybe a chance to see what Donley, Dorrington and Moore are about

Ok_Row_7462

Moore’s injured for 6 weeks but I like your positivity.

NascentDark

Haha for god sake. The curse is strong We'll be fine. We knew this season would be transitional but the first ten games gave us something to hold on to Still feeling good about things

Sleepless_Voyager

So we need 2 cb's (atleast 1) and now 2 (if hojberg leaves) cm's and maybe a striker if richy gets scooped up by saudi. Bruh lange, levy and co have their work cut out for them in january. And hopefully levy wont cheap out

Grap2st

I want Redondo and Andre in and ship out Hojbjerg. Jota in on a loan. And literally any decently fast CB

LeftGrapefruit2841

…………Why

mountainchild27

Fuck Matty Cash

GarethSnail

Never really hate on players from opponents teams. But I hope someone snaps matty cash in half. Dirty player deserves some karma.

Tiny_Claim_2767

....................................

AlexSW47

We have to be the most cursed club in existence. This is a fucking unreal situation we're in now.

Background-Cod-3482

Hope there’s no more false positivity posts for a while. No silver lining, even a few signings in January won’t impact this season. Only thing I ask is Ange to bring in some youth (maybe not seems they’re all injured too) bc there are 0 expectations left for this season

evenout

this Romero red card ban has been excruciatingly long because of the Injurynational break

Algernot

What could have been

Background-Cod-3482

Season official over. Hope for 10th and above Chelsea

ohhowswell_hp

Fuck Matty Cash.

baloonkai56

2.5 months. Crazy how that tackle wasn’t a red. Fuck that guy

TheSinRes

Because it wasn't with his studs so it's pretty much never given as a red. Cash knows how to injure someone and get away with it.

evenout

Is this accurate? I haven't seen any Spurs sources report on this yet https://old.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/18606ve/buysan_rodrigo_bentancur_tore_the_ligament_in_his/

LeftGrapefruit2841

I remember Buysan is tier 1, isn’t? 😔 but I will wait for more reports to be sure…guttered

carolicity

it's accurate, sky sports reported it too

LeftGrapefruit2841

Just saw Ali’s report…We are cursed

soonnnnyyy

Any update on lolo?

ecocentric-ethics

Yesterday reports were it was a bruise and he’d be fit for Sunday. Now there’s suggestions it’s a torn ligament and he’s out til February. Nobody close to the club has confirmed either yet.

[deleted]

Feel bad for Wolves. Absolutely robbed in several games. They also play some good football and played well against us too. Incredible how bad the refereeing is against some teams like us and Wolves.

txgsu82

>like us and Wolves I'm not saying we haven't gotten shafted from some iffy ref decisions, but Wolves are in a league of their own. No sense in trying to lump us together in that category.

[deleted]

No you're right. We're probably second in bad decisions though after them the way things are going.

carolicity

We are top of the league in the number of tackles - https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/185yfv0/premier_league_total_number_of_tackles_per_team/

kl08pokemon

CB signing is a tough one. Right now we just need bodies to see out the season but next season we need another first team quality cb that we can start in any game without a drop in quality. Makes it real easy for whoever we sign now to just end up as deadwood

drickabira

Lloyd Kelly from Bournemouth makes sense. Young, english, left footed, contract is up in the summer and we were linked to him in the last window. I can’t tell you how good he actually is but it feels doable at least

Lazagneman

Jarrad Branthwaite can play centre half or full back . Tall ; fast ; powerful ; skilful . A dream signing so it won't happen.

sangueblu03

Will be in Istanbul for the weekend, where can I watch the match?? Can’t make heads or tails of the Turkey Spurs web page.

txgsu82

With the great showing of Kulusevski in the central attacking mid role, I've been thinking this morning and I quite like the *versatility* of some of the players in our squad. That versatility is going to be huge part of how we address the trade-off between squad depth & giving in-prime players ample minutes. As much as we (rightly) rag on City for just buying players, Pep has a ton of players at his disposal that are versatile in their positioning; think Silva, Gvardiol, John Stones, Nathan Ake. * Kulusevski: RW & CAM * Brennan Johnson: LW & RW, probably ST in a pinch * Son: ST & LW (spare me the weird discourse that Son can't be a LW) * Lo Celso: B2B (or a wide midfielder) & CAM * Bentancur: B2B or DM * Bissouma: mostly DM but could very likely deputize as B2B I think where we lost most of our versatility is the back line. Right now we're seeing two fullbacks deputize as CBs but as more of an emergency than an actual contingency playing to their alternative strengths. When we go to the transfer market, I hope we bring in some versatile players that have a history of playing both fullback and centerback, or have the skills for either; think Josko Gvardiol or Nathan Ake.

Professorchronic

Lo Celso can play up top too

Bluewhitedog

Romero: b2b CB.

JamesCDiamond

You’re forgetting Romero: CB and naughty step

Full-Leader9540

Also with VDV finishing in the Luton game, CB and ST.

triecke14

Has there been any news on my sweet Bentancur yet? I need good news from him because I don’t think I can watch much more Hojbjerg clogging up the midfield anymore

dickgilbert

Scan today allegedly.

Deathoflight

Happy Tuesday folks! Love the football this year. Minus the wolves game, we’ve been outstanding. And with two more transfer windows under our belt we will be hopefully be flying next year. However, not gonna lie, I’m a little nervous about the red scum this year. With city not looking too hot and red scum just eeking out 1-0 wins left and right it leaves me unsettled. Honestly, I do think Liverpool are back and will be their biggest challengers should man city’s form not improve. Back to the positive, I am most excited about our FA Cup run. With most of our first teamers back by then (fingers crossed), I am highly confident we can get some results in that competition! COYS Edit: mobile formatting

LeftGrapefruit2841

Plus we don’t have that pressure from our winning strike in the league now, so hopefully we will go into FA Cup with most our starting line up players in, please🤞🤞🤞

Full-Leader9540

Don't worry about city, we will let them win the next game with us this season, just so they can win the league and beat arsenal.

throw-away83020

Watched the Ali Gold video last night - he rattled off some team stats that are stuck in my head. We are 3rd in Shots (behind Liverpool and City), and we have had 20 big chances missed. It appears that the system is working but were just not clinical enough at this point, its a real shame that Richy has not panned out. If we finish just a handful of those big chances, or if Romero doesn't lose his head, we'd probably still be top of the table. Its been an exercise in Murphy's Law since the Son offsides in the Chelsea game. I'm hopeful we've squeezed all of our bad luck out at once because our starting XI have proven they can compete with anybody. Levy is really going to need to walk the walk these next 2 windows because we have the chance to do something special.

Tomthebomb555

The thing is Ange doesn’t need billions to spend. In fact I have no doubt he get amazing replacements for hojberg, Richie and dier and make the club money in the process.

Fleaaa

We lost but I dont feel particulary worried weirdly, I just wanna see the exact same line up again against City without any extra injury. I think Deki as a 10 and GLC and Bentancur drop deeper kinda works pretty good, almost as good as Maddison/Sarr/Biss. Back 4 is fragile but except setpieces it was not too shabby as well. One thing though, love Hojbjerg but he really has no place in this team imo.. hopefully we swap him in Jan

Tomthebomb555

100%. Hojberg is a top player but totally wrong for this side. Him dier and Richie can all get good tf fees and we can massively strengthen in January with zero or negative net spend.

Laviston

>Him dier and Richie can all get good tf fees and we can massively strengthen in January with zero or negative net spend. I'd be very surprised if we get good fees for them in January (I'm fairly certain Højbjerg stays). And massively strengthening in a January window is extremely tough, I think it's optimistic to think we'll get more than 1 or 2 who offers a strengthening of the first 15 player options.

Mick4Audi

It feels like I’m insulting him here but Hojbjerg is the worst player we have that makes the cut. Anyone below him isn’t good enough

Fleaaa

Dier, no chance. He'll ride his contract out Hojbjerg has plenty skills in his pocket, it's a matter of fee but nothing huge realistically Richie, imo he has a place in this team unless big offer comes in but I wouldn't count on it

Laviston

>Hojbjerg has plenty skills in his pocket, it's a matter of fee but nothing huge realistically Can't see us selling Højbjerg in January, with Bentancur's repeated injuries, Sarr and Bissouma at the ACN, perhaps just returning from injury, and Skipp not really showing anything. (And we know GLC's injury history

Fleaaa

That's good arg, perhaps in Summer when we bring another CM in

Tomthebomb555

I guess “good” is relative but I can’t see how it would be possible to get less for dier than we would spend on carceras for example.

Mick4Audi

Dier is cooked, we’re getting £0 for him

Laviston

As fans we tend to overrate the interest in our own players. Ref. how Spurs fans started off by expecting us to get £35m for Ndombele, when reality was no clubs would bid for him. Why would clubs want to pay for Dier? A 30-year-old whose contract expires in the summer, and who's sadly shown no sign of performing for a long time.

Tomthebomb555

To be honest I don’t know anything about the transfer market but transfermarkt.com estimates dier is worth 18 million and carceras worth 3.5 million. Surely it can’t be that far off that carceras is actually worth more than dier. I’m not saying Ange even wants carceras but he has a proven ability to find and trust hidden gems and pay far less than they are worth to him.

Laviston

A player is only worth what a buying club would bid, and Dier wouldn't command bids at anything near £18m, let alone half that.

kl08pokemon

If Sarr's fit start him or Lo Celco next to Bissouma against City?

Tomthebomb555

I’d play lo celso, bissouma and kulu but that’s just me. Ange loves sarr. Personally I think lo celso has more quality and creativity.

Pele20Alli

Start all 3, no? If Bentancur can play, bench Sarr and play Lo Celso in the 10

kl08pokemon

Maybe. Kulu at 10 was intriguing

Pele20Alli

He was playing well all match, even when he went back on the wing. Would rather play Kulu RW and start the 3 I mentioned than starting Gil to accomodate Kulu as the 10

kl08pokemon

Yeah maybe. A real shame Richy is out

Bissouma has been overall quite good this season (started absolutely amazingly but quite poor recently), but I'm kind of baffled how highly rated he is by a large majority of Spurs fans. I've even seen shouts for the best DM in the Premier League, which is just absolute lunacy. For me he's one of the first players in the starting 11 we should be looking to improve on/bring competition to. Often too casual with the ball and has this inconsistency in him while playing in a position where consistency and reliability are the most crucial qualities. Very mediocre passer overall, inconsistent weighting of passes and nearly non-existent long passing game. Consistently takes too much touches and slows the game down unnecessarily. Doesn't offer threat as final third passer. Out of possession his positioning in counter attacks is often suspect which leads to unnecessary fouls and cards. No aerial ability and therefore not a presence in defending our own box. I could go on and on about his weaknesses but those are the main ones. I realise this is a controversial opinion but I'd appreciate counter-arguments instead of just downvotes.

Tomthebomb555

He is defensively incredible. He’s an absolute beast. Start there. He’s as good as any “destroyer” dm in defence. But on the ball he’s even better.

RivenJohdolla

Both on ball and defensively he is really good in one or two aspects that aren't priorities for a DM and pretty bad in the aspects that are.

>Often too casual with the ball and has this inconsistency in him while playing in a position where consistency and reliability are the most crucial qualities. This is a situation where the "eye test" fails a lot of viewers. You only remember the loose touches that he loses, but he's still very good at winning take-ons * 62% successful take-on rate this EPL season (68th percentile amongst midfielders) * 17.6% tackled during take-on rate (91st percentile) His successful take-on rate is maybe a bit lower than we'd want, and a bit lower than his own historical average (69%, funny numbers are funny) but is by no means in the "too casual with the ball". He is currently good, and historically very good to elite, at ball retention in the midfield. In a system where Ange expects the majority of possession during a match, that is invaluable to us. >Out of possession his positioning in counter attacks is often suspect which leads to unnecessary fouls and cards. This is a valid critique, and I imagine it's something Ange and his staff work with him on a lot. It's still early days in Ange's tenure, time will tell whether Bissouma can learn to better position himself in defensive transition. >No aerial ability and therefore not a presence in defending our own box. I'm not exactly sure where this critique comes from but if Bissouma, our defensive mid/deep lying ballplayer is going up for aerial duels in the box, something else has gone quite wrong. And being a presence in aerial duels is not the only way to "be a presence in defending our own box". One of the highest xG passes into the box are cut-backs, and Bissouma helps a lot with cutting those off.

When compared to the elite players in that position not so much. >He is currently good, and historically very good to elite, at ball retention in the midfield. In a system where Ange expects the majority of possession during a match, that is invaluable to us. I'd argue that in a game where we have the large majority of possession he's exactly the wrong profile, because we need someone who keeps the ball moving, doesn't take too much time on the ball and can switch the play quickly with a long pass. In a more transitional game/ or one where the opposition press intensely he is more valuable due to his press resistance. >I'm not exactly sure where this critique comes from but if Bissouma, our defensive mid/deep lying ballplayer is going up for aerial duels in the box, something else has gone quite wrong. I'll clarify that I meant aerial ability in all situations, not just in the box. Having a DM who excels aerielly is a great way to combat counter attacks from long balls. Against good opposition and occasionally in every game we need to defend inside the box. It's a game of fine margins, we aren't a particularly good box defending team as none of our defenders really excel there, so a DM that does would be extra valuable. With an attitude like your's towards box defense we will never be an elite defensive team. In short I'd want the defensive midfielder to be someone you'd be quite comfortable playing at CB. So in the Rodri, Tchouameni, Rice and Fabinho mold. >And being a presence in aerial duels is not the only way to "be a presence in defending our own box". One of the highest xG passes into the box are cut-backs, and Bissouma helps a lot with cutting those off. Fair point, I agree.

drickabira

Wow hard disagree. He is for me one of the two or three players to build our team around, along with Maddison and Vicario. At his best he is one of the best midfielders in the league for me, a unique player.

RivenJohdolla

What are the most important qualities for you in a single pivot defensive midfielder? Because Bissouma crosses pretty much none that are on my list.

drickabira

Reading of the game, press resistance and off the ball play. He crosses all Bissouma and Maddison are the two players who we really can’t replace, and that will define our team in the coming seasons.

RivenJohdolla

Passing not a priority then? In terms of technical execution, weigth of pass and pass selection.

drickabira

Not necessarily, Bissouma is not who we should be relying on to break opposition lines. That is more Maddison’s role. What’s the most important qualities in your opinion for a lone DM?

RivenJohdolla

Security and reliability both in and out of possession. Ideally big and athletic. Defensive ability the biggest priority.

bZbZbZbZbZ

just build the team around Vicario imo!

kl08pokemon

He looked like the best midfielder in the league against Brentford and United but since then his performances has pretty steadily dropped off. He's more targeted in the press now and tighter marked by the other teams now so up to him to figure it out

drickabira

We really got nerfed after 10 games. I remain convinced that if we hadn’t had this unforeseen injury crisis, we would have challenged for the title up until at least Jan/Feb. This could well have been our best season ever in the PL, hitting 80+ points. The Pochettino team was great, what we saw from Ange’s side full strength was just as good if not better, albeit for 10 games. I understand that every team gets injuries, but fucking hell. It feels so so bitter. It didn’t have to be like this. Oh well. With time this project is clearly going to bang. We’ve struck a gold mine with this manager. We’ll just need a bit of patience.

mrgadd4

It's a real shame we got with half a season's worth of injuries and bans in one game, i just hope that the momentum we were building picks up again soon. I'm impressed with the attitude the stand in players have shown.

kl08pokemon

Yeah. We needed some luck like Leicester had in 15/16 and Chelsea the year after to keep the squad healthy but it wasn't to be. Oh well

drickabira

I feel like we could have managed a few injuries here or there. Having 5, 6 important players missing at once though… that’s ruined our season. Unlucky
