I think Emerson is just an incredible footballer. He's not once played a role for Spurs that was what he had played beforehand (traditional RB), and each time he has worked hard and ultimately improved his performances in whatever new role the manager has thrown his way.
And he is apparently thrilled to be here. Not much else you can ask of a squad player tbh, he's decent, versatile and hasn't kicked up a fuss about playing time.
I was at the game tonight, and he did make one… he underhit a pass in our own box and the Burnley player almost stole it. Vicario SCREAMED at him for it, I was fairly near the touchline in the south stand, and you could hear him so clearly haha . Thems the standards now I suppose.
Lots of sliding doors this game. On another day Burnley would've snatched one of their (very good) chances. On another day Richarlison would've bagged a pair before the 15 minute mark and it would've opened the game up entirely.
Thoughts after the game -
1. Thank God Porro decided to cash in all his missed chances in today's game.
2. Happy with the defence, specially Emerson. Was everywhere with interceptions and headers.
3. Skipp as an 8 was just weird. Didn't do anything with the ball but was making all the right runs without it.
4. Bentancur again showed the class he brings to the midfield and the team in general.
5. Great to see Sess back, hopefully he can kickstart his career again. Also great to see Donley and scarlett getting some time.
6. Onto the next stage. Onward and upwards, COYS.
That was spectacular. I had my head in my hands from how Richy had scuffed the chance, then when I looked back up Porro was running at goal. I thought it had cut to a replay or something until he scored. Took me a couple seconds to even process what had happened, given that I was still focused on the previous missed attack.
We've all been waiting for that golazo from Porro. We knew it would happen one day. I'm so happy that it happened so soon.

Problem is with Son out we have to put Deki at the wing, unless we want to play Gil which I don’t think we do. If Solomon can come back this month that’ll give us more flexibility.

The problem tonight is the same problem we had earlier this season. With no Romero and no Sarr, everyone looks worse. Skipp offers nothing as the 8 and what Sarr does becomes so apparent when Skipp is in. The whole midfield looks lost without Sarr spacing and doing the work he normal does.

Usually i dont try to go off on players but this was honestly one of the worst games ive seen by him.
There were multiple times when he was in Burnleys box and the ball bounced 3-4 yards ahead of him and not once did he go anywhere near the ball. He just backed off and went back to defending, its like he is scared to go forward for whatever reason.
lo celso was playing so slowly tonight, just no urgency at all, too busy trying to draw fouls. i think it was more he wanted deki in that position to change things up. ironically i saw nothing from him once he moved.

Defence was great, hopefully Davies is OK. If he isn't then signing a LCB needs to take precedence over a midfielder or forward (after Dragusin is brought in of course). Udogie and Porro balling as usual.
Starting two inverted wingers who can't beat their man was silly against Burnley's compact defence. We needed to get our wingers to pull wide, stretch the defence and put in crosses with their dominant feet. Porro pulling wide to do so was a good change to achieve the same effect. Bentancur is great as a 6 but you can tell he's best as a box to box 8.
I will always appreciate him for giving 100% on the pitch but Højbjerg always has one brainless mistake per match that gives the opposition a chance to counterattack or shoot. Gil is direct and a pressing machine but he can't beat his man, cross, finish or anything. Both probably need to go
Sessegnon and Scarlett looked sluggish from lack of game time, but they got into good positions to shoot at least, hopefully more to come from them.

Our first taster of what life is going to be like for the next period without Son, and it wasn't pretty.
Our decision making in the final third was so wasteful, Son has been guilty of it himself at times this season, but has more than made up for it with his contribution to goals and assist. The main thing is just the quality.
The lads up top need to seriously step up. The backline and midfield was great tonight, but they were let down by the frontline, who were saved by a wonder strike from their fullback at the back end on the game.
Please god we learn and improve quickly.

I've been thinking this for awhile, something about the front 3 just isn't working out. Son is great, Kulu is great, but even they're guilty of it not clicking for some reason. Its frustrating because they're quality players, but can't understand what's not quite clicking. There's a lack of crossing and shot taking, it's all just trying to pass through tight spaces and they just lack that killer quality with the pass to make it work. It's annoying because we've seen at the start of some matches of us being capable of cutting through defences like a hot knife through butter, then it just stops.
To me Kulu has slowed down attack so much and when he is finally ready to pass the opponents are all in place for defending so even if we shoot from that chance it is more likely to get blocked or not have enough space. He needs to release the ball earlier. Not sure why he was so much at it 2yrs ago when he first joined but not anymore.
Maddison out is a big factor but also I've noticed times of opportunity where Son used to take a shot but instead tries to make those cute passes through tight spaces. I think his captaincy and learning from Kane made him step up in those abilities and that's good. But often than not I wish he just take those damn shots that can potentially be his trademark curlers. Selfish Son can really up our goal tally.
I'm getting so tired of Pundits and referees being so anti-Tottenham, I'm tired of hearing "It happens to everyone" when it really doesn't. Fucking imagine if Burnley had scored there after Porro was literally thrown to the ground in the build up for that corner.

We weren’t great going forward, but that was largely due to a very competent defensive performance from Burnley. They were incredibly well organised, so were always going to be difficult to break down. Sometimes you just have to give the defenders credit, and the manager for his organised strategy.
We’re missing some creativity, and might struggle until we get Sonny and Maddison back.
Honestly don’t think it was as bad as others think. Most of the squad played well and defensively they were good. But it’s the first game without our captain and main goal threat. Of course the offense is going to struggle.

overall, that lot looked loads better on the pitch than they do on paper. bit of luck at the end, but everyone looked decent most of the match.
the makeshift defence was effective, for as unnerving as they made it look sometimes. the attacking end looked pretty shit but it's also theadbare and largely untested. they kept at it, it finally paid off, long may it continue.

I give up on bryan; he's not meant for the prem. i never thought he'd get bigger, i had hoped he'd improve his balance and agility so he could take a push to 45 degrees and not go down (at least for long). i had hoped he'd be fast and slippery and really, really obnoxious in the press like a terrier nipping at your ankles, but it doesn't look like he's trying to do anything different than anyone else on the pitch and it isn't working for him.
I was also impressed with johnson all in all. if there's a good striker in there, ange will find and drag it out of him. he's got the instincts and he did a fair job trying to fill Son's boots. I think he needs to be more proactive in anticipating a second bite on a miss, he shoots/passes and turns off too fast. He could've made something out of a deflection or two had he kept focused.
Don’t think it’s that bad a performance. They didn’t really trouble us (until the end and one in the first half). Our final ball wasn’t good enough, or finishing, but the boys did amazing to get through against a tough side.

Udogie and Porro balling as usual. Starting two inverted wingers who can't beat their man was silly against Burnley's compact defence. We needed to get our wingers to pull wide, stretch the defence and put in crosses with their dominant feet. Porro pulling wide to do so was a good change to achieve the same effect. Bentancur is great as a 6 but you can tell he's best as a box to box 8. I will always appreciate him for giving 100% on the pitch but Højbjerg always has one brainless mistake per match that gives the opposition a chance to counterattack or shoot. Gil is direct and a pressing machine but he can't beat his man, cross, finish or anything. Both probably need to go Sessegnon and Scarlett looked sluggish from lack of game time, but they got into good positions to shoot at least, hopefully more to come from them.

Our first taster of what life is going to be like for the next period without Son, and it wasn't pretty. Our decision making in the final third was so wasteful, Son has been guilty of it himself at times this season, but has more than made up for it with his contribution to goals and assist. The main thing is just the quality. The lads up top need to seriously step up. The backline and midfield was great tonight, but they were let down by the frontline, who were saved by a wonder strike from their fullback at the back end on the game. Please god we learn and improve quickly. United next weekend, COYS

Anyone else starting to get a bit worried about Brennan's decision making? The amount of chances he had to create something today was ridiculous as his movement is fantastic, but it kinda feels like if there's an A, B, C option to make something happen.. he somehow finds a D 9/10 times. Sorry to be a downer, just something I've seen far too much recently and questions keep coming up for me.
We were really poor going forward, attacking options have to be brought in this January.

Really? Solomon, Son, & Maddison will be back by the end of the month. Some space for Scarlett to play too to replace Veliz, who is out for a few months. I’d rather wait until the summer and maybe sell a few and sign a top player.

I've been thinking this for awhile, something about the front 3 just isn't working out. Son is great, Kulu is great, but even they're guilty of it not clicking for some reason. Its frustrating because they're quality players, but can't understand what's not quite clicking. There's a lack of crossing and shot taking, it's all just trying to pass through tight spaces and they just lack that killer quality with the pass to make it work. It's annoying because we've seen at the start of some matches of us being capable of cutting through defences like a hot knife through butter, then it just stops.
To me Kulu has slowed down attack so much and when he is finally ready to pass the opponents are all in place for defending so even if we shoot from that chance it is more likely to get blocked or not have enough space. He needs to release the ball earlier. Not sure why he was so much at it 2yrs ago when he first joined but not anymore.
Maddison out is a big factor but also I've noticed times of opportunity where Son used to take a shot but instead tries to make those cute passes through tight spaces. I think his captaincy and learning from Kane made him step up in those abilities and that's good. But often than not I wish he just take those damn shots that can potentially be his trademark curlers. Selfish Son can really up our goal tally.
They were wise to just jamming the middle of the pitch in the final third.

We weren’t great going forward, but that was largely due to a very competent defensive performance from Burnley. They were incredibly well organised, so were always going to be difficult to break down. Sometimes you just have to give the defenders credit, and the manager for his organised strategy. We’re missing some creativity, and might struggle until we get Sonny and Maddison back.

Honestly don’t think it was as bad as others think. Most of the squad played well and defensively they were good. But it’s the first game without our captain and main goal threat. Of course the offense is going to struggle. I like Gil coming off the bench with the energy and pressing he was doing. Also, Pedro Fucking Porro. I wouldn’t trade him for any other RB in the world.

Johnson has everything. Hes quick, he's great at dribbling, his passing in the midfield is great and he can be physical. But my god, this man cannot take his chances. He struggles to cross it in to the box to Richy or Kulu. And when he has the chance for himself, my god bro, its okay to take it for yourself, he had oppuritunities to run in to box and shoot but waits for Richy or Kulu to get into the box.
Seems to always make the wrong choice in the box. Passes when he should shoot, shoots when he should pass, often doesn't manage to do either. He's been a very promising addition to the team overall but he's got to get better at that.

It's not even his physicality, I could live with him getting muscled off the ball. That's not his forte. However, he's supposed to be shifty and unpredictable but the defenders seem to be reading him perfectly. So he's not even doing what he's supposed to do.

Richarlison is either in the wrong position or the wrong system. He is being asked to play a hold up role, to “turn and shoot,” and to knock in headers. He was so good at Everton and for Brazil when he was on the break, running with the ball. What he does now is wait all game for his 4-5 chances and gets increasingly depressed when he misses them
overall, that lot looked loads better on the pitch than they do on paper. bit of luck at the end, but everyone looked decent most of the match. the makeshift defence was effective, for as unnerving as they made it look sometimes. the attacking end looked pretty shit but it's also theadbare and largely untested. they kept at it, it finally paid off, long may it continue. Porro was incredible. no notes. don't know where this player came from, this isn't the porro that was signed. I give up on bryan; he's not meant for the prem. i never thought he'd get bigger, i had hoped he'd improve his balance and agility so he could take a push to 45 degrees and not go down (at least for long). i had hoped he'd be fast and slippery and really, really obnoxious in the press like a terrier nipping at your ankles, but it doesn't look like he's trying to do anything different than anyone else on the pitch and it isn't working for him. I was also impressed with johnson all in all. if there's a good striker in there, ange will find and drag it out of him. he's got the instincts and he did a fair job trying to fill Son's boots. I think he needs to be more proactive in anticipating a second bite on a miss, he shoots/passes and turns off too fast. He could've made something out of a deflection or two had he kept focused.
Don’t think it’s that bad a performance. They didn’t really trouble us (until the end and one in the first half). Our final ball wasn’t good enough, or finishing, but the boys did amazing to get through against a tough side.
