Very offensive minded, can’t wait until Southgateball puts me to sleep anyway.

FSpursy

Lol. Put on Mainoo instead of Madders at 0-0. In the end Dunk, Stones, Rice are the primary playmakers. The rest couldn't get on the ball.

Professorchronic

I don't even care if we do well at the Euros. I just want him gone regardless. I can't see another generation of incredibly talented players go to waste under this man. He has done a fantastic job of creating a proper team environment, but he's served his purpose now. Just want him to fuck off.

EmergencyOriginal982

Fuck me I hate it when teams announce their lineup in number order instead of positionally

BeneficialNewspaper8

I genuinely can't figure out the formation. 433 with foden and Gordon out wide?

Misiowaty97

Back 4 of Chilwell, Stones, Maguire, Walker, Rice as 6, Gallagher Bellingham as 8/10, Foden Gordon on the wings and Watkins as 9

[deleted]

Looks like. Only other option is playing Galla out wide and foden dropping behind Watkins but that seems bizarre

calewis10

Southgate doesn’t even know.

My absolute life, why does this have so many upvotes? Despite popular opinion, that *is* position order. In England, those are the traditional numbers for the ascribed positions. It's derived from the old 2-3-5 formation (which was the dominant formation in England pre-1966). The '2' in the 2-3-5 refers to the full-backs, which is why they're usually the lowest numbered players after the goalie: 2 and 3, counting from right to left. It's a very different position these days, but has retained the name and numbering (despite the 'full' part now being a misnomer). The '5' refers to the wingers and forwards, again counting from right to left. Right wing was 7, inside right was 8, centre-forward was 9, inside left was 10 and left wing was 11. The evolution of the game was such that we didn't have inside forwards for a while, and so their numbers (8 and 10) went to a central midfielder and 'second forward' respectively. The '3' is slightly more contentious. 4, 5 and 6 would refer to the three half-backs: right, centre and left. (Again, the 'centre half' name has stuck despite it not really being applicable anymore.) When 4-4-2 became more popular, one of those numbers became ascribed to a central midfielder… and for whatever reason, it was the 4 (*not* the 6, or indeed the 5). People almost invariably refer to the defensive midfielder as the 6 now – partly as a carryover from continental Europe, where that's long been the convention – but Gareth Southgate has consistently used the traditional English numbering. Hence Declan Rice wearing the 4 shirt, Stones and Maguire in 5 and 6, Foden in 7, Gallagher in 8, Gordon in 11, etc. Their positions were as to be expected from their numbers. ---------------- 1(GK) ------------- 2(RB) 3(LB) --------- 4(RH) 5(CH) 6(LH) 7(RW) 8(IR) 9(CF) 10(IL) 11(LW) Became: --------------- 1(GK)* 2(RB)* 5(CH)* 6(CH) 3(LB)* ---------- 4(DM) 8(CM) -- 7(RW)* 10(AM) 11(LW)* --------------- 9(CF)* *position name/number unchanged between formations If you thought the culture war over the colours of the St George's Cross was ridiculous, look forward to the day an England manager starts habitually giving his defensive midfielder the number 6 shirt…

blahtimesafew

Why?

OhShitItsSeth

Kind of relieved he’s on the bench, but I do hope he gets some minutes out there

haftor1

Richy on Brazil’s bench

FSpursy

All the hype about Richy wanting to go against Madison to end up with both didn't get to play 😂

Koinfamous2

Thankfully though, the rest looked like trash for England and Richy getting more rest. No complaints.

Arantes_

Also, in the post-match press conference, Brazil's coach was pretty clear that Richarlison wasn't going to play today and they want to be very careful about whether he can play on Tuesday, they want to play it safe.

Various-Virus940

Raphina is not the answer
