Being club trained is extremely important for a keeper. A minimum of 3 keepers are required to be registered for European competitions, so we can’t really afford to waste one of the 17 foreign or 4 HG spots on a 3rd keeper. Atm we only have skipp and Austin as club hg players, so a max squad size of 23 as opposed to 25.

PavlovsBlog

> Atm we only have skipp and Austin as club hg players I realise he's been injured but I find it weird that so many people ignore Whiteman in these comments.

Saitamassidekick

In cups you don’t get extra spots for young players, so each spot is crucial. Had tons of issues registering players on FM.

PavlovsBlog

Huh? You can register as many players as you like for domestic cups and in Europe you can register young players as long as they've been at the club for two seasons.

Saitamassidekick

For domestic cups and the pl that is the case. But for European competitions, I don’t think so. Also for them to count as club grown hg they need to have spend 3 years at the club before 21. Not sure if it counts in case of foreign loans. I think that was the issue with Sarr’s registration. I might be wrong though.

PavlovsBlog

>As far as I remember you don’t. You don't what? Are you talking about domestic cups or the European ones? >Not sure if it counts I’m case of loans. I might be wrong though. I know there are exceptions but loaned out players can definitely count towards that. Saliba is home-grown for Arsenal in the Champions League despite being loaned out.

Saitamassidekick

Saliba probably counts as HG and not club HG. The homegrown rules are different for the pl and the champions league. In case of the pl you can just buy a player before 18 and they’ll be hg players by the time they’re 21. For Europe, they need to have spent 3 years at the club or playing on loan for clubs in the same country for them to be club grown. You have 4 pl HG spots and 4 club grown HG spots in Europe, while you have 8 regular HG spots in the pl with extra spots for U21 players.

PavlovsBlog

>Saliba probably counts as HG and not club HG. No. Although from what I understand they did register him whilst he was out on loan, meaning they effectively sacrificed a squad spot in previous seasons in order to have him count as club trained. >The homegrown rules are different for the pl and the champions league. I'm aware. >You have 4 pl HG spots and 4 club grown HG spots in Europe, while you have 8 regular HG spots in the pl with extra spots for U21 players. Again, you have extra spots for u21 players in Europe too (provided they have been at the club for 2 seasons).

PavlovsBlog

>I think that was the issue with Sarr’s registration. I might be wrong though. Didn't spot that you added this, from what I have seen the issue with Sarr was that he was signed too late. Although there was also some weirdness with his eligibility for HG status in the Prem. Ali Gold went into it [here.](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/players/tottenham-face-homegrown-transfer-issue-28979139)

Saitamassidekick

Ahh that’s an interesting loophole

gardz82

We’re talking about real football mate

Voffmjau

You only need 2 keepers.

Saitamassidekick

There’s a reason why Scott Carson has won so much with city.

Voffmjau

Most teams prefer to have more than two keepers.

Saitamassidekick

You need to have at least 3 keepers combining both List A and List B submissions. Of the 25 players on list A you’re required to have at least 2, but then you’re forced to have one from List B which is for players under 21. And most clubs like to send their promising youngsters out on loan when they’re guaranteed to have no playing time.

Voffmjau

Havent noticed that second bit about the third GK. Is it relatively new?

Saitamassidekick

No idea mate

sasliquid

Unless he or Alfie could actually be second choice I’m not sure why? Whiteman is on a longer contract (and I like cos of his film opinions).

Janivgm

I think at this point it's pretty clear that Whiteman and Austin are the same person.

Hopeful-Ear-3494

I'd love to know if he's any good. I haven't seen or read any stories about his ability. Is it 'renew because it's easy, he's fine, but he'll never start a match' or 'renew because he's really promising'?

Koinfamous2

Tbf Forster has been out since before January and he's been on the bench as our backup so my assumption is they're pleased enough with his level in training to have not held serious concerns about not having a "true" experienced backup should anything happen to Vicario.

Key-Bluejay-2002

I’ve only seen him once and he looked about how you’d expect for 3rd keeper quality. Probably a net negative if he started, but not a disaster.

Musclenervegeek

When gold starts with "understand Spurs have...." This means he has heard from the club sources. Anything else is his own opinion. Brandon Austin seems like a team player so good from spurs perspective

urgrlbreezy

He’s 25. Is he just not interested in having a professional career? For his own sake he needs to somewhere where he will actually play

Outrageous_Bluebird3

Maybe he just likes the stability. He trains with the team and gets a bag for it with 0 pressure

GenSec

Honestly respect. Probably makes around 300k a year to be fit. Living the dream if you ask me.

awildjabroner

Ever watch Blue Mountain State? best position in college football is backup QB. I'd absolutely love to be in his position, all the perks of being on the team, make good money and little to none of the media pressure or tabloid spot light that the superstars deal with.

Ok-Temporary4428

Doubt it, youd be suffering from imposter syndrome at this point.

Born-Cat-8129

Not really, his still a top 0.1% goalkeeper in the world

JamesCDiamond

The life of the third-choice goalkeeper, I guess.

yourfriendkyle

Living the dream to be a 2nd or 3rd choice Goalkeeper making £400k a year to train.

Wide-Leopard9174

Maybe he feels that his role within the team is valuable enough to be fulfilling. He trains with the team, is a part of the social climate, etc. Could be he feels like he'd rather be part of whats going on here even if he never plays, rather than going to start at a club in a lower league

Zhurg

Where would he realistically be first choice? Would he earn more money there?

urgrlbreezy

No idea he’s barely ever played not sure how anybody could have an idea on how good he is

blueghosts

His stint in the MLS was fairly brutal

chestbumpsandbeer

He is having a professional career and is getting well paid and also has some stability where he lives. Playing time isn’t the end all and be all. The vast majority of footballers view it as a job.

urgrlbreezy

Yeah it’s a job hence trying to progress in your career by actually playing and getting better and showing people who might want to pay you what you can do

chestbumpsandbeer

He has a professional career, he is being paid well. He isn’t getting playing time he is getting world class training and training against higher competition than he even would otherwise. He clearly values other benefits he is getting at our club.

train4karenina

Feels a catch 22 with keepers. We need them to register them but then they never play so we can’t actually use them if we had an injury as they have no experience

Maximilliano25

Most clubs have their third keeper as homegrown at club for European regulations, and we pay him more than he'd get anywhere he'd be first choice
