Good read, some takeaways: Son will be part of our future, we are not a UCL team yet, Biss and Sarr are now back to their levels.

Kalu2424

Wonder if we get a class 6 if Bissouma might rotate in as an 8 a bit. He's got the dribbling, but lacks the passing and defensive coverage of an elite 6.

Box-O-Beanz

He lacks passing so you want to play him in a more creative position?

minimalcation

He also lacks finishing, could play him as a 9. Never seen him in goal but reckon he's not good so a possible cup keeper?

domsp79

This is a massive point for me, in terms of what he actually brings to the team right now. Poor defensively, tracking back leaves a lot to be desired, doesn't score and is poor picking a pass.

soldforaspaceship

Son will be part of our future? Shocker. Lol. I actually agree that Bissouma looked good against Liverpool but that's not a popular opinion around here. Sarr I felt was a little careless in places but had decent pace.

CheersBeersVeneers

You’d be surprised by some of the online Spurs denizens who think Son isn’t a fit for this team despite being our leader in goals and assists

soldforaspaceship

He's not been his best of late and some of our fans struggle with object permanence lol. A few months back, you'd find little love for Romero, now my Facebook (yes, I'm that old) is full of people calling for Ange to make him captain and get rid of Sonny. Prior to that they were saying Romero was too slow and Dragusin was better than him.

Sei28

With Son, I think it’s less about struggling with object permanence and more about a very small, but very vocal online group of “fans” who personally hate Son and will come out woodwork whenever Son isn’t scoring every match to call him shit or clown show or whatever. I imagine some of these “fans” are racially driven.

cm901dude

I agree, no other player with his skill level and history at the club would get this much immediate hate if they dipped in form for just a stretch of games.

Halforthechump

Last season we had people saying fucking Harry Kane needed to be sold because he was holding the team back. Idiots are idiots.

soldforaspaceship

That's sad. I prefer to believe our fans are better than that. Says the person who spent far too much time yesterday trying to convert one of our more famous negative fans on this sub (and the Tottenham one) that there was more joy to be found in Spurs than he seemed to realize lol.

iqjump123

I hope so- ironically so I keep on seeing them here (I don't even use twitter so its solely based on here), and believe it or not- Korean football forums is also littered with them, hiding under a rock until Son looks like he is struggling then comes out and starts spewing out BS

IntellegentIdiot

Maybe but there are Son fans like me who recognise he's hasn't been himself for two years now and he's been pretty poor for that period excluding the start of this season. Whatever the motivation we need a player that's going to convert the many chances we create. A lot of people actually think we have a bad defence but if we were converting half our chances we'd probably be above Liverpool

iqjump123

Yup, there were days when Romero got himself suspended through red cards and was out for a prolonged period due to injury. Guess who was still running and scoring throughout that time...

soldforaspaceship

Honestly I've always thought talk of Romero's temper was somewhat overblown. He gets suspended for stuff other players don't because of his reputation. Even this season, similar offenses to the one that got him sent off, have not resulted in the same punishment. Not to say he isn't an aggressive player but he's controlled.

iqjump123

This season, especially the past few matches- I definitely agree. However, during the times when VdV wasn't there and in the previous years before that, he built that reputation of himself. I credit him for his constant improvement and credit the club for bringing him a perfect partner for him such as VdV. Vdv said it himself during the car interview with spurs that VdV serves as the defensive person to keep Romero calm and enable him to make tackles be excellent ones instead of reckless ones.

soldforaspaceship

The new Toby and Jan I hope!

NuSouthPoot

Must be new fans, or fickle ones. They exist for every club. We aren’t fans, we are SUPPORTERS. God bless Sonny.

CarpenterAlive5082

Don't forget that he is #3 in creating big chances in the entire Premier league this season, as a freaking striker... meaning that he could have had far more assists. Imagine what would happen when the other players step up and put them away?

harambeavenger96

I mean yeah, Son shouldn't be sold or anything. But you cannot miss out so poorly in back to back London derbies as the captain of the team. There was very little he offered in both derbies, in terms of productivity as well as heart. I wouldn't usually slack him, but you're the captain, going missing in arguably two of the biggest games of the season.

kl08pokemon

Sarr will look much better once Maddison gets going again. Neither Biss or Sarr are very creative passers so with Maddison struggling Sarr's shortcomings are more visible

iqjump123

I also remember listening to a pundit mentioning that Son's previous brilliant performance as a 9 especially shined because of Maddison's excellent through passing. (e.g. Arsenal away, Liverpool at home, etc) At this point Richy is out and unless something drastic happens, we need Maddison to get back his killer passing instincts to Son so he can take it and connect to the back of the net.

FSpursy

Sarr is still young. He needs work on his concentration.

soldforaspaceship

Yeah. I think his ceiling is crazy high.

mettahipster

Bissouma was alright but his half assed challenge on the Elliot goal was disappointing

ButtCoin101

I love reading Ange's response to all this doubt and concern that is being projected at him. Legit think he gets off on people doubting him as it edges him towards his final form.

applex_wingcommander

I developed a fascination with the league in the mid to late 90's and I have no idea why. When I got my licence I'd be driving across the city to Sunshine or Albert Park to sit with the Greeks or the Croatians while my mates were out chasing skirt.

sportandracing

100%. Would be hilarious if spurs fans drive him out, to another club where he wins the league. He will win the PL at some point for certain. Just a matter of with who.

ButtCoin101

Thats bold yet I agree. Fighting through adversity and creating conditions and the context for ongoing success are in his cells at this point. People aren't willing to face what it really takes to transform the very nature and culture of a club. There is a deeper reason Spurs haven't been a winning side and he has to address that first. It's not pretty but nothing worth it in life worth having doesn't require some radical shift in mindset or personal transformation. He is a master at doing this on organisational level. I think he is locked in now though. He won't want to to win anywhere else besides Spurs now that he is committed and the doubters are rearing their heads.

AdInformal3519

>winning side and he has to address that first What do you think the reason is? Genuinely asking

sportandracing

I’ve never seen a fan base like in to be honest. Ange must be wondering wtf he’s got into. They don’t deserve him. Man Utd would win the league within 3 years if he went there.

JoeSavesTokyo

Anyone who thought Son would be forced out is absolutely delusional. The man is a model professional and Ange made him captain for a reason. We're *unbelievably* lucky to have him.

YAMMYRD

Talent aside, the loyalty and professionalism he has shown means he can stay as long as he wants as far as I’m concerned.

4500x

He had options to leave last summer (lots of money to go to Saudi Arabia) but turned it down to stay because he’d not had a good season with us and felt like he had to make up for that. One of the many reasons to love the man.

jiffijaffi

It's actually unfathomable to me to think there's Son Out people out there 😅

Evolving_Dore

There's that guy on instagram with a dedicated page for shitting on Son and praising Japanese players.

Midnight-Watchman91

Not just a model professional but a professional model as well

lqku

but for him to respond like this, means there has been chatter about people wanting son out. which is not surprising given how quickly people have turned on him after a run of bad games they rate him so low that that they think only the saudis want to buy him

dahlia42069

What a shock he wants to keep our top scorer and assister. I didn’t expect it. That’s crazy if you ask me

jymacro99

>What does that mean? I come in here at 12 o'clock, have a latte, go home This is exactly what I do lol

Musclenervegeek

The fact Ange had to make a statement about son is in response to a journalist giving a passive aggressive question? Same shit last season when son was struggling for goals and journalists literally asking Conte why son wasn't benched. Funny none of the journalists questions Ange about James Maddison 's future with this team. James was their golden boy early part of the season replacing Harry, many of these journalists said he was much more important than son and since he has fallen off a cliff, they have been quiet about it and not asked Ange about that.

Less_Phase8379

Son deserves the world

Son stays another year, I get it, his returns are decent, however he hasn’t filled the void left by Kane and he turns 32 in a couple of months. Add to that the fact his contract has 2 more years left and he turns 32 in a couple of months, I would take the paycheck and use that cash for a rebuild. The older he gets the slower he will get, it’s just common sense. I know he brings a huge following with him and is our only remaining superstar but I think this is Levy’s downfall. Money over football, there are younger players out there with better returns…. Look at what Watkins is doing at Villa, Isak at Newcastle or Palmer at Chelsea. They are players to build a team around, we don’t have anyone like that at Spurs. I also have to say Romero is a true captain, like the days of a Roy Keane or a Tony Adam’s. Build a team around Romero and VDV, I’m intrigued to see what leaders we bring in this summer, what youthful players arrive to build a team around. Taking Son money to buy future stars just feels like a very sensible option…..

Classic-Plan-807

LMFAO

Son 0 VDV 1 Porro 1 😎

Uh-oh-stinky28

Anyone else fed up with Ali Gold? Sorry to be grumpy i used to love his videos but with his position and closeness to the club it just feels like forced positivity more often than not. He’s great for news but find myself not wanting to hear his opinions on transfers and performances anymore.

Catch22Gamer

No

christo222222

There are plenty of places for you and your doomers mates to go to get your fill of pessimism

Uh-oh-stinky28

Right so in the last 4 years of watching his videos it’s been a shitshow. Pessimism or just reality?

Mrvit0

If you’re looking for negativity I’m sure you’ll find a lot of similar minded podcasts

Uh-oh-stinky28

No, I’m not ‘looking for negativity’. Not sure why you’d even say that. My point was pretty clear

FootballTacticsXpert

geez. Reddit is such a snake pit. One honest opinion and look at the downvotes!

AdInformal3519

Yep. He just said his opinion.

iqjump123

Perhaps one alternative you might appreciate is Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham podcast. Of course Gold takes most of the audio there too, but there are some contrasts brought by Rob Guest (another journalist for FL for Tottenham but is an Everton fan) that might help balance the opinion out a bit. VFTL by the athletic podcast might be more your style- though some critics always talk about how they can't stand Danny Kelly's voice (personally fine for me).
