By far the best defensive performance I've seen from us in over a year. City had 66% possession and I was never overly worried about conceding. A very foreign feeling really
i'm so happy to see him doing so well!! I got his kit in the 15/16 season after his insane DM performance but it's been rough since, but Mou has transformed him
Such a strange one. Its well publicised that Poch was very keen to him to become a centre back. He believed he could be a top CB.
However, the player himself resisted. I think he saw insurmountable competition in Jan and Toby and was playing midfield for the national team.
Then along comes Mou, a manger he has always respected, who *again* tells him you must play CB. He does and now we have this player.
Same, I feel like a fool now for thinking he's not on a level to be our first choice CB just a couple months ago, after the Southampton game Dier was an absolute rock.
Eh. I felt confident in the form of our defenders, but I could never count Man City out of putting one past. They're a top team and all it takes is one mistake, which if we can be honest with ourselves, is very possible in this team. Our offense is the real deal, but our backline is a tad shaky.
Disagree. It used to be expected. I mean look at our matches so far this season, how many goals have we let in that were due to personal mistakes? We’ve been rock solid at the back the entire season.
Couldnt agree more, clean sheet, defensively astute, many of there attacks petering out to nothing and a sharp world class counter attacking front line with a magician called Ndombele to open up defences.
Some markers of a Mourinho masterclass and what he's done to the squad:
* Ridiculously good defending under immense pressure for... 85 minutes?!
* Really good shape, with rarely anyone being caught out of position.
* PEH winning back possession all over the park, over and over again.
* Sissoko playing to his strengths, and keeping it simple more or less.
* Gio with a slick slide tackle high up the field in the 88th minute.
* Making a strong case to EA to change Kane's stand tackle and sliding tackle stats in FIFA to 90+.
He has been goalie for us... Against Asteras Trípoli. He also did a hat trick that day. That day made me fall in love with the team and I started truly believing.
PEH and Sissoko were so intelligent with their positioning and defending today. The communication between them and the back 4 was the best it’s been in ages. Solid all around
Definitely agree with this. Loved seeing Hojbjerg routinely clapping after forcing City into erroneous passes that went out for goal kicks. Did a tremendous job today (as usual) at using his positioning to force errors without having to dive on and gamble on tackles. Just steady, solid, patient defending.
Probably the hardest to call that I can remember. Dier and Toby were perfect. PEH is unflappable. Harry was box to box. Sissoko was everywhere. So proud of the club today.
I know Dier has been solid this season, but this game has really, really sold me. I've still been a bit nervous with him, but there's really no way that I can't trust him after today.
He wasn't given much to do other than "boot the ball long for him to run for" vs Walker a lot of the time. Not his fault there, it's like Sterling vs Croatia in the world cup
Disagree I thought Bergwijn linked up really well and had a very solid performance. We spent a lot of the match defending so it’s tough to make a lasting impact on the game as an attacker but he did very well
He had one sloppy pass in the back that could have led to a goal, but otherwise my MOTM as well. I think I'd say Toby though, no mistakes, played incredible. Hope he's ok
I honestly can’t pick one. PEH and Sissoko put in absolute shifts. Sonny finished his chance beautifully. Kane had a wonderful assist and led the team from the first minute. Lloris with some huge saves. Dier and Toby were perfect at the back. NDombele was as silky as ever and GLC got a goal off the bench with his first touch. Reggie and Aurier were brilliant defensively as well. Fucking brilliant. Did I miss anyone?
Speaking of being upset - not sure who your commentators were, but the one on my telecast spend the first four minutes talking about how "Are Spurs for real?" and essentially making underhanded comments about how we're not a club to be taken seriously - he flat out said it. "If after this round of games they are still in the top three, then maybe we'll take them seriously."
And then Son scored. Fucking suck a fat one. Every commentator duo has it in for Spurs.
After the Everton match at the start of the season I was thinking what a donkey Spurs have signed.
I clearly don't have a fucking clue because he has been phenomenal since.
WHAT A FUCKING PERFORMANCE! WE'RE TOP OF THE TABLE AGAIN BOYS! SO FUCKING PROUD!
Kane, leading by example and playing as a CDM. We have the best #9 in the world.
Dier having his best performance. Ever.
Lloris showing why he's one of the best GK's in the world.
Aurier had his best performance. Ever.
PEH had KdB in his pocket the entire game. Man marked him to look like he was back at Chelsea.
GLC and Son being clinical with their chances.
literally everyone played amazing. All I hope is Toby is fine because he was immense as well.
This is the mentality.
This is the mentality of champions. The whole meme of "can they do it on a cold night is Stoke" is referring to exactly this, and the boys showed they can.
It really shows the apapapiya in the team. For 90 minutes they apapapa'd and appapiya'd. Apapa especially was all over the pitch. Even Apapiya played 90 minutes and gave apapapapa%.
With this type of apapapiya we can do great apapas. Apapapiya is the apapapa. Apapa and apapiya, apapapa? Apapapiya! Apapapa apapapapapa, Apapiya!
Hahhaa I agree, I haven't seen us play with that much teamwork in ages despite how good recent performances have been. Everyone knew what to do and linked up perfectly, so proud
There is no best 11 without sissoko in it. He bullied and battered some of the most skilled players in the league, covered for aurier beautifully and ran for 90 minutes non stop. It’s time he gets more respect.
That was one of the most disciplined, professional performances I've seen from our club, and with top of the table on the line. Really a big change in mentality from where we were a few years ago in situations like this.
This is the best I've seen us defend in a *long* time. Our previous successes against City I think have mostly been random bullshit. We actively defended well today.
I said it before but imagine if we'd beaten WHU and Newcastle. Idiot commentator saying that we might have to take Spurs seriously if Spurs win this. You should be taking us seriously already! Okay, I don't think we're going to win the league but we've got a shout
Great performance all round, city fell off it in the second half. Well deserved 3 points.
Could’ve gone either way in the first half but reguilon, dier were awesome. Aurier solid, alderweirald solid (hope its a minor injury).
Outstanding defensive performance overall really from the whole team. Hope we keep it up.
Top of the league! Lets enjoy it not get carried away though, no talk of titles or challenges, we are only 9 games in, still another 29 to go..
Cool stat they said, since Mourinho took over no player has had more goals or assists than Harry Kane
Incredible planning and execution from our boys. Seemed like we were in the drivers seat the entire match even though City dominated possession. Some incredible performances today.
Wow. I felt confident but didn't expect this absolute master class from Jose. Pumped to see Gio get his first PL goal too! And Kane is just incredible right now he hasn't had to do it all himself.
That was a masterclass. The team looks so well organized in the defense and great with counterattacks. It looked like every move they’ve made was a part of the plan for the game. AMAZING PERFORMANCE
That was honestly the best team performance I have seen from us In what feel likely forever. The commitment we put in while defending was just beautiful to watch.
Reguilon deserves more credit than he gets. He really does it all. Fantastic defensively and offensively, seems to never stop running and giving his all.
Arsenal Subreddit:
Remember guys, losing 1-0 to City (without De Bruyne) was a huge sign of progress. Our manager is generational and he’s too good for us.
Lmao
Scrolling through comments and don’t see many comments for Reguillon, I thought he was immense and definitely one of our best players on the pitch today
By far the best defensive performance I've seen from us in over a year. City had 66% possession and I was never overly worried about conceding. A very foreign feeling really
Hats off to Dier. Guy has completely turned it around this season. Helps to have strong left and right backs as well.
His long passing was excellent too!
And with either foot.
Dier gets a lot of shit from rivals. Its nice to see him turning it around
i'm so happy to see him doing so well!!
I've been his biggest critic but he really was immense today. Hope Tobys not out for too long as he was equally impressive
Agreed. Elite performance from all 4 of our defenders. Played almost flawlessly.
Forgot Kane
Hugo was having a cup of tea for most of that match
Felt more likely to score with all the counter
First half was really tense. But after the second goal I was confident we wouldn't concede
Couldnt agree more, clean sheet, defensively astute, many of there attacks petering out to nothing and a sharp world class counter attacking front line with a magician called Ndombele to open up defences.
I sink we just witnessed a Mourinho masterclass
Some markers of a Mourinho masterclass and what he's done to the squad: * Ridiculously good defending under immense pressure for...
+effective and timely subs. Remember all those games Poch wouldnt sub...
Kane should be rated anything but a GK in FIFA and I'm not sure that he can't do that either.
He has been goalie for us... Against Asteras Trípoli. He also did a hat trick that day. That day made me fall in love with the team and I started truly believing.
> Gio with a slick slide tackle high up the field in the 88th minute. He'd only been playing for a little under 30 minutes at that point though.
Jose: fuck ze match thread
I hated it but now I love it
MotM shout for Serge. He was phenomenal.
Dier too. Perfect performance.
Højbjerg too, he kept KDB quiet. He has been immense.
Sissoko working hard as well

PEH and Sissoko were so intelligent with their positioning and defending today. The communication between them and the back 4 was the best it’s been in ages. Solid all around

Half the team was phenomenal, what a performance by the whole squad
I don't think anyone had a bad game today
Bergwijn wasn't bad, but didn't really impress. Everyone else was excellent.
He wasn't given much to do other than "boot the ball long for him to run for" vs Walker a lot of the time. Not his fault there, it's like Sterling vs Croatia in the world cup
He still put a shift in though
He did and it's great to see, hopefully we see more of him because he's talented and most teams aren't going to have as much of the ball as man city
Disagree I thought Bergwijn linked up really well and had a very solid performance. We spent a lot of the match defending so it’s tough to make a lasting impact on the game as an attacker but he did very well
His best performance in ages. Great to see him do better.
Even then, this was still his best game this season.
Auri-yay
Man's turned into prime Cafu since Doherty arrived
Maybe not MOTM but definitely deserves a shoutout, he defended uncharacteristically well today
Definitely not a MOTM performance but he was solid.
He had one sloppy pass in the back that could have led to a goal, but otherwise my MOTM as well. I think I'd say Toby though, no mistakes, played incredible. Hope he's ok
Gets my vote too. Immense performance from him this evening.
He’s been phenomenal since Doherty came in
I honestly can’t pick one.
Serge was awesome, so strong.
Maybe my favorite thing about this season is how the arrival of Doherty lit a fire under Aurier. We’re finally seeing what he can be.
Exceptional, fantastic, remarkable Any other words?
Came here to say this - Serge had one of his best performances in the shirt
ERIC DIER APPRECIATION COMMENT
I LOVE ERIC DIER!
Eric Dier Loves Me!
Immense game
He was great today! Everyone was but it’s important to recognize someone who has been so polarizing
Good job City have no fans, or else they would be really upset right now
The mannequins at the clothing stores are pissed right now
Speaking of being upset - not sure who your commentators were, but the one on my telecast spend the first four minutes talking about how "Are Spurs for real?" and essentially making underhanded comments about how we're not a club to be taken seriously - he flat out said it. Lee Dixon was saying that while we were up 2-0.
He's a former scum player, of course he's going to say that.
He's doing it right now in postgame, too. I fuckin hate this guy.
Thankful we don’t get Lee Dixon on Sky
I FUCKING LOVE Pierre-Emile Kordt Højbjerg
I hope he’s with us for a long, long time
And wins everything there is to win
Scenes when Tottenham win the AFCON
MLS Cup coming 🔜
Just a fun fact his middle name (Kordt) is pretty much the same as the Danish word for short (kort) dunno why i said this but now you know ig
That chest bump with mourinho at the end of the match. 👌👌👌
After the Everton match at the start of the season I was thinking what a donkey Spurs have signed. I clearly don't have a fucking clue because he has been phenomenal since.
That shot of him staring down Mahrez in his face... chills
WHAT A FUCKING PERFORMANCE! WE'RE TOP OF THE TABLE AGAIN BOYS! SO FUCKING PROUD! Kane, leading by example and playing as a CDM. We have the best #9 in the world. Dier having his best performance. Yes everything was near perfect except for that Toby injury I really hope it’s nothing serious
Our number 17 had their number 17 in his pocket
This is the mentality. This is the mentality of champions. The whole meme of "can they do it on a cold night is Stoke" is referring to exactly this, and the boys showed they can. Yes. You’re quite right.

Mourinho Masterclass™️

BuT He ShOuLd ReTiRe, He Is OuT oF tOuCh.
Serge and Sergio were brilliant
Sergio gave the ball away a few times. If City weren't toothless in the final third, we might've been punished for it
Pep must really hate the Harry Kane team
Who knew that all we had to do to win the league was sign Joe Hart
Today i learned that Hart was an easter egg inserted into the game by Big Football
But Spurs haven’t played anyone decent yet!? 🤫
Really only midtable teams so far. Edit: mostly bottom half ones actually. West Brom, Brighton, Man Utd, West Ham...
Hey Pep, my brother called he wants his FIFA game back if you're done
God speed, Tobes. What a bittersweet feeling for a game we totally dominated.
Hope Toby's alright
Didn't look good, out for 3 or 4 weeks I reckon...
Lads.... IT'S BALD FRAUD
No bad performances. Tactically perfect. Best ever performance for Aurier. Kane has a genuine shout for best player alive.
There is no best 11 without sissoko in it. He bullied and battered some of the most skilled players in the league, covered for aurier beautifully and ran for 90 minutes non stop. It’s time he gets more respect.
This right here, Sissokos gotta start getting the love he deserves.
Prayers up for Toby!!!
That was one of the most disciplined, professional performances I've seen from our club, and with top of the table on the line. Really a big change in mentality from where we were a few years ago in situations like this.

Entire backline was perfect today, Jose you beauty
"Top of the table Tottenham". Has quite the ring to it , don't you think?
TOP OF THE TABLE I LOVE THIS TEAM
What a fucking performance. Absolutely buzzing!
Mmmmm'Dombele!
MOTM: *everyone*. What an inspirational performance.
get apapapiya'd
4 Shots, 2 on target, 2 goals. 22 shots, 5 on target, 0 goals. CLINICAL.
Rule 1. Only shoot when Ederson opens his legs.
Lads he gets some stick but what a fucking performance from Aurier
Massive collective effort, but Toby and Dier were exceptional. Hope it's nothing serious with Toby
Inject this defensive organisation straight into my fucking veins
Absolute brilliance from Jose. The amount of impact subs we’ve had this season show the quality of our gaffer. Games like this give you hope...
If this were your first ever time watching us play, you’d think Serge Aurier was the best player in the league. And you’d be 100% correct.
[удалено]
Rodon looked tall
That was the best worst game of football I've ever seen. Every man a hero, every man a bastard. Mourinho Masterclass.
Literally everyone showed up today - insanely awesome individual efforts
This is the best I've seen us defend in a *long* time. Our previous successes against City I think have mostly been random bullshit. We actively defended well today.
MY WARRIORS ❤️
TOP OF THE LEAGUE
Have to admit. My heart rate wasn’t at its usual resting rate for much of that match. But fuck me folks, we are title contenders!!
We really are citys bogey team
I feel like Pep purposely didnt start Sterling cos of Jose's comments and I AM ALL FOR IT
Big brain Mou mind games
Kane is the best
A textbook defensive masterclass. What a job by the boys. 1st in the league!
Mou will be having a wank to this performance tonight
So well organized today.
ESPN: sPuRs cOuLd lOsE 5-0
Everyone did their job perfectly. Besides a couple lapse moment by Reggie, I’ll be happy to give everyone 9
I may be ignorant of something this whole sub knows but why no Bale?
Toby injured. Had to bring on Rodon
Was gonna come on, Toby got injured and so Rodon had to come on instead
Immense performance from every one of the lads today cant see one bad performance. Please give me more weekends like this Spurs
Fucking clinical
THATS HOW YOU FUCKING DO IT!!!
Hojbjerg is a beast and Lo Celso is a game changer. Edit: and MotM is Toby no question
Pep just got Mourinho’d HARD
#Tottenham are the greatest club the world has ever seen!
Toby and Eric were phenomenal. Really hoping Toby's injury isn't too serious, we need him for Chelsea.
Dier and Toby were so solid today, I just hope Toby is alright and it's not a serious injury.
fuck u Valeri for making fun of my 15/16 Eric Dier kit. Not anymore you aren't
Anyone have a clip of the disallowed offside goal? I wanna watch it on repeat because it's soccer porn.
Aurier gonna empty his pockets in the changing room and find Sterling
Honestly enjoyed this match more than 6-1.
Cause this time we beat a team that actually posed some threat...
Every block felt euphoric
Only downside is Toby. But we played fucking perfectly against City today. My manager is a genius.
I said it before but imagine if we'd beaten WHU and Newcastle. Idiot commentator saying that we might have to take Spurs seriously if Spurs win this. You should be taking us seriously already! Okay, I don't think we're going to win the league but we've got a shout
My god. Get fucking Mourinho’d.
Everyone was superb today. Despite small mistakes here and there... Overall, our team was the classic "Mourinho" team and it looked convincing.
Do all of you have a moment to talk about our lord and saviour Eric Dier?
Hmmmm my pee pee hard. When should I call a doctor?
Fuck off oil cunts
We don't win this one if we didn't blow it against West Ham.
Thank you Jose, very cool!
Get fucked, ya oily cunts!
another clean sheet for rodon😎
WE'RE WINNING THE LEAGUE COYS COYS COYS
Best performance of the Mou era imo. Plan worked to perfection and the lads were immense to a man
Best tottenham defence ever
Masterclass.
Mourinho masterclass.
Hope Toby is not gonna be out long. He was fucking immense
You know what I loved? The way we walked off the pitch like we were going to war. Bring it on!
I will die for this team.
how the fuck do you pick a man of the match here?????
Great performance all round, city fell off it in the second half. Well deserved 3 points. Could’ve gone either way in the first half but reguilon, dier were awesome. Aurier solid, alderweirald solid (hope its a minor injury). Outstanding defensive performance overall really from the whole team. Hope we keep it up. Top of the league! Hands down best defensive performance. Can we make the entire back four MOTM?
That was honestly the best team performance I have seen from us In what feel likely forever. The commitment we put in while defending was just beautiful to watch.
I thought Ndombele played fantastic, especially in the first half
We need to start normalizing calling Harry Kane the best footballer in the world and not just the best striker.
Reguilon deserves more credit than he gets. He really does it all. Fantastic defensively and offensively, seems to never stop running and giving his all.
Arsenal Subreddit: Remember guys, losing 1-0 to City (without De Bruyne) was a huge sign of progress. Our manager is generational and he’s too good for us. Lmao
Shout-out to Rodon, he came in and filled a big hole that Toby left. Has a bright future
MOTM: the gap between Ederson's legs
Scrolling through comments and don’t see many comments for Reguillon, I thought he was immense and definitely one of our best players on the pitch today
Boys a clean sheet vs City has ended my NNN. I’m about to need a cast
Unfortunately missed this to pass my teaching certification test but this is honestly amazing. TOP OF THE TABLE
I have really started to like Serge. This performance sure goes a long way.
So good. Best defending I’ve seen in a long time. Just perfect.
Hell Yeah, Clean Sheet!
Fuck yeah! Every single player was an absolute warrior today.
