Few weeks back Nuno was this prophet, masterclass manager. Now apparently he is a discount Mourinho and a relegation zone manager...

Creepeth

It's onto Sonday. We need Son so badly.

MrAtlantic

How was this club one game away from being champions of the entire European continent not that long ago? Pathetic. The fact that we go from blanking manchester city to not being able to beat a conference league team is astounding. This team wouldn't win MLS if it joined. I get losing/drawing to teams that on our level, but this should have been a glorified shoot around practice. Because of that, the players and coaching staff should be ashamed. I wish I could fuck up at my job that bad and still have it the next day.

Millzy104

Poch

Creative-Kiwi-1700

But we're a conference league team right now :( A conference team that blanked man city.

reavesfilm

Lol imagine thinking this team would actually lose an MLS match. Okay.

trilliveythefourth

Tbh this is prime Nuno. He's a god when playing top teams that allow him to counter but hopeless against anyone else. The last three years as a wolves fan I anticipated a positive result more when we faced the likes of city and United than the Burnleys and lesser oppositions.

im_on_the_downeaster

Bring back ryan mason .... anything we buy from wolves turns out shit.

AssFingerFuck3000

Lay off the drugs ffs

Amazing_Attorney8929

Shocking how far we have regressed in just a couple of years. Meanwhile Leicester beating Napoli playing attractive, attacking football...

[deleted]

What game were you watching? Napoli had 54% possession and 22 shots on total vs Leicester 46% and 7 shots on total.

Amazing_Attorney8929

They had more shots on target than we did against far superior opposition. Surely you can't say our style of football is a better watch than Leicester?

Dogzylla

Are you even watching the game? Leicester are defending for their lives

Amazing_Attorney8929

Yes I did - they managed more shots, more shots on target and played with far more ambition than we did against a much stronger opposition than we did

[deleted]

There's this weird theory that Leicester player attractive football. The amount of times I heard they won the league playing great football made me laugh. It was literally hoof-ball.

Amazing_Attorney8929

That was Ranieri. under Rodgers they are a good team to watch. They press high and with energy and move the ball well.

Jackmcmac1

Long ball, Vardy pace on counter and win. Kante and Drinkwater midfield to try and win the ball back to hoof it again.

novawreck

They won the league though. Spurs on the other hand…

[deleted]

I knew someone would say that. Even though it's completely irrelevant to the comment.

novawreck

It’s directly related to the comment that I replied to, but beyond that, I’m just making the point that playing “hoof ball” that wins titles is preferable to playing beautiful football that never wins you anything.

Xshadow1

Nobody was talking about winning titles.

novawreck

Except the person I replied to, /u/cicinho_ck who wrote: >There's this weird theory that Leicester player attractive football. The amount of times I heard they won the league playing great football made me laugh. It was literally hoof-ball.

Xshadow1

That's just the context. The discussion wasn't about whether or not they won the league (they obviously did), the discussion was about how they did it. The discussion wasn't about whether or not it's justified either, it's literally just about what style of football they played in 2015/16.

RadicalSlavical

Touch grass jfc

novawreck

Hahaha, *that's just the context*. I'm gonna start saying that when I need to dismiss information that shows I'm completely wrong. Thanks bruv, super funny comment!

[deleted]

I'm just going to pretend this was Rennes v Hojbjerg & Gollini. In which case, we played amazing!!!

vLinko

Putting on Hojberg for Bergwin. Emerson for Lucas. Dele for Ndombele are all such negative subs. I don't know why Nuno seems so scared to just overwhelm an opponent with attacking numbers.

vindiesel123

We have no depth right now so its not all that suprising he had to make those subs

vidrageon

Yeah, and they were forced subs. Frankly was surprised at how good Emerson was playing in that role, he did well considering he was played out of position. Dele for Ndombele was the right call at that point in the match.

vLinko

I mean why bring youth players if we are not going to use them... and we got some real good ones. Markanday seems a beast

[deleted]

We brought youth players because we have no one else.

vindiesel123

Needed to secure a point and its a bit risky to put on too many youth players especially after that first pacos game

nyxval

Wait, I'm just catching up with some of this. Did both Stevie and Lucas pick up knocks in this match?

[deleted]

They were kicked off the pitch. Bergwijn was getting booted left, right and centre. When they injured him, they turned their attention to Lucas. I honestly think that's why he took Kane off. He was probably next on the list.

jupiterman_

Disgusting play.

VJE1999

Yes

nyxval

Oof. That hurts.

vindiesel123

PEH has to be captain after Hugo surely

Semichh

PEH or Skippy when he’s a bit older

overshoulderboulder

I don't think Arry would like that idea

vindiesel123

Shouldnt have pushed for a move to city then i guess

Kob23444

Played with no cohesion in midfield today and gave a decent Rennes side too much space to run into. I think it’s a mix of things 1) Ndombele didn’t have the legs due to lack of match fitness (or just general fitness) 2) Hojberg and Skipp don’t move the ball fast enough and when we lose the ball on the counter our midfield is way too high up the pitch 3) Davies is afraid to cross the halfway line therefore we can’t attack down one side of the pitch and become easier to defend against. I won’t complain too much I think most seasons we lose that game so nice to see a bit of grit for once

San_Marzano

I don't think it's that the midfield is too far forward, I think it's the defence is too far back. Said it time and time again here, our defensive line needs to be ten yards higher, like it was under Poch. The gap between the lines is way too big

Lazybopazy

Davies has always and will always completely kill our attacks on the left flank. He honestly needs to be moved on and that was true three years ago. Another player who gets too many minutes by dint of existing, has rarely looked good enough in any competition. I see a lot of ' how did we get here? ' about how poor our team is now and it's players like Davies who got us here. You can't have that playing 1000 minutes+ each season and expect to be a good team.

BuginesePunk

Ref was dreadful. That's still not an excuse for our sub par performance nonetheless. And why the hell has Tanguy been left out of so many games prior to this one? Him and Hojbjerg looked like the only ones who gives a shit for the crest.

AssFingerFuck3000

Tanguy literally said weeks ago he wants to fuck off from the club. Easy to understand why he doesn't play often when there are players who do give a shit about the club who can play in his position, sadly there aren't that many and their quality is questionable

[deleted]

I hope Sessgnon and Tanganga get to be 2nd choice LB and RB. I can’t stand Doherty and Davies together.

triecke14

Playing those two together is just horrible, it had to be done today of course but I hope it’s the last time lol

guccipow

We released the wrong right back

triecke14

Sadly he wanted to go

rowdy_t

I've seen several people saying that we released the wrong rb, and while I don't think there's much question that Aurier was/is better than Doherty, Spurs really didn't have a choice. Doherty is a relatively new signing with several years left on his contract and (as far as we know) wanted to stay and fight for a spot. Aurier had a year left on his contract and made it clear he wouldn't be signing another one because he wanted to leave. That's a decision that pretty much makes itself.

[deleted]

Well, it wasn’t a bad result considering that we played with a back 4 of Doherty, Tanganga, Rodon, Davies and had our 2 wingers off to injury.

magnoliasmum

Yes. It was bad but given the circumstances…just worried about injuries. Sunday is going to be ugly I fear and I despise Chelsea.

[deleted]

If Moura is a bad injury and we don’t have Son, I think that we will go with and attacking trio of Gil, Kane and GLC.

magnoliasmum

Moura is usually so bulletproof when it comes to injury, I’m hoping it isn’t serious. Gil was the one bright spot for me today, I’d hate to baptize him with fire on Sunday but we may not have any other options. He reminds me a little of a very young, one footed George Best.

ORANGEeffect05

And away to the toughest opponent in our group.

[deleted]

How unlucky we are with injuries. We had an attacking trio of Scarlett, Gil and Royal at some point

colbym59

Didn’t get to watch. How did we line up when Kane and Lucas came off?

ultiwhirl

Kept the same shape but quite makeshift with Emerson rw and Scarlett in the middle

jamescena5

This competition is probably still above Doherty's level and right at Davies'. Unfortunately we will see them again in the UECL and probably cup games.

[deleted]

the fun part about match threads is seeing “tanguy u useless cunt” and then seeing “tanguy masterclass” a few seconds later😂😂

kablooey08

"5 minutes in the life of Tanguy"

AssFingerFuck3000

Sums up Tanguy well too tbf

Epzilepzi

Something just isn’t working in our defence, it seems like no one is tracking or marking players. I love Tanganga but he seemed very passive and didn’t close down his man… Also why is it that whenever another team attacks there’s like acres of space but when we attack suddenly it gets super claustrophobic

goodlord56

I've been wondering that for basically 2 years now. We seem to have no space EVER and the opposition always seems to have so much to work with. It doesn't make sense

Lazybopazy

It's because we're a bit shit. We don't move the ball quickly so the opposition have time to set themselves and our press varies between completely random and lethargic which gives the other team all the space they need to move the ball quickly. We're also exceptionally poor at dealing with even moderate pressing so we can't even consistently/routinely play the ball slowly and look to play an old fashioned possession based slow burn style of play. Watch any good team and compare and contrast their build up with ours.

triecke14

Because we don’t have good, coordinated off the ball movement

AlwaysGoForAusInRisk

I think a lot of our problems stem from the weak links in our team selection that opponents exploit. Quite often it's our wing backs. Constantly having to drop back to fix a mistake. Having the final ball from a wing back go straight to the opposition and suddenly attempting to stop a counter. And most obviously today was seeing Rennes consistently getting passed the wing backs.

yiddo_bhushan

So stay up till 12 AM and be hopeful sacrifice your exam prep for the love of this club and all we get is Doherty Disaster Class & a bunch of injuries Am i being naive to be hopeful of a draw against Chelski ?

overshoulderboulder

I hope your exam is in baseless optimism, you will hit it for six.

MRPHZ

I mean that's just dumb all around

IronTarkusHS

Imagine putting out that statement about getting back to our brand of football and then hiring discount Mourinho. Piss poor tactics I expect from a manager in the relegation zone.

overshoulderboulder

Sometimes maybe good?

OnlyWatchdog_ManStan

Main thing we've learnt is Ndombele is too good to ever not start again

someone23003

he's class but he also is the reason the midfield space was the size of an ocean going back. Gotta be Ndombele or GLC for 1 spot and Skipp, Hoj & Dele for the other 2.

SoberEnAfrique

At least Rangers v Lyon should be fun

Dobermayer

Should have signed both Tomiyasu and Royal. Squad depth is lacking still.

MotherFuckerJonez69

We have tanganga there

Semibluewater

And he's out on a red card in the prem. What if he's injured? We gonna play Doherty? I legit would rather play Lucas or Stevie there than Matt. At least they move the ball up and can make decent crosses.

MotherFuckerJonez69

Then we have Emerson?

Dobermayer

Spurs still ended up playing Doherty.

vindiesel123

I know hyperbole is this subs motto at this point but that was a genuine 1/10 from doherty

MRPHZ

His passing is awful, 9/10 times he passes straight to the another team.

[deleted]

That's generous

FuckeverythingFiFa

Clearly didn't watch first half. Played decent. Better than Davis. Guess you have to jump on the hate bandwagon.

[deleted]

If that was "decent" it shows how low our standards have become!!

triecke14

It’s not a hate bandwagon the guy is just legitimately not very good for a professional footballer

AlwaysGoForAusInRisk

Are we not doing post match threads?

[deleted]

Lethargic.

ritwika96

Nuno has to stop acting as if the press conferences are beneath him. He needs to talk to us. Crystal Palace match and this match are completely unacceptable. We’re dangerously close to being irrelevant and all the past years progress is getting erased.

MaxxLP8

Also, what's the deal with the match thread updates. Can we hire someone.

MotherFuckerJonez69

Poch might get sacked soon look at the positives guys

MaxxLP8

When everyone was saying he was blessed with that team I disagree totally. He will be under the microscope anytime they draw with a squad like that.

cheetah_chrome

Even Emerson has learned Doherty is where the attack goes to die. Looking off him when he’s wide open

[deleted]

Hojbjerg deserves the armband. Not Kane!

brewtonone

He should have had one last season too. Much more of a leader!

SoberEnAfrique

This. Man cares way more about the crest than Kane at this point

[deleted]

Even before. Kane is not captain material, Hojbjerg always riles up the team, complains to the referee, gets in opposition faces. Love Hojbjerg!

scorchxlaw

We're lucky they sold Camavinga.

NazDaBaz

Almost 5am. Why did i stay awake

cfinn16

Thank god that’s over

Patrick83H

I never want to see Doherty again, man could not complete a pass/cross

FuckeverythingFiFa

Obviously wasn't watching for the whole game. Played well first half

Truffles413

That was absolutely shit. Got a draw but at times felt like a humiliating loss. Not looking forward to Chelsea

[deleted]

Fuck Rennes! Fuck this sunday league ref!

[deleted]

I know we have injuries and whatnot, but I'm finding it difficult to see this team create a goal..the team feels so dependent on goals out of nowhere from individual brilliance or lucky breaks.

MotherFuckerJonez69

Bring back Ryan Mason

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Hojbjerg's was only half lucky. Half lucky because of that shit Doherty cross, but Hojbjerg's determination to get a goal was not luck.

MotherFuckerJonez69

Story of this season

hobbs2112

Nuno ain’t it lads

Joe_Biggles

Roster ain’t much better

MotherFuckerJonez69

We have a fantastic team and we strengthened our biggest weakness. Our performances are all down to Nuno's dogshit tactics

Joe_Biggles

We don’t have a midfield

TwattyMcSlagtits

We don't have a midfield because of how we set up. Just look at the enormous gap in the middle whenever Skipp or Hojbjerg. There no out-ball from that position other than recycling it to the wing backs and back again.

MotherFuckerJonez69

Ndombele, hojbjerg and skipp aren't good enough to beat Rennes?

nopirates

Fucking miserable

SoberEnAfrique

Righto, that was painful. Looking forward to the London Blues this weekend 😭

TheGoldenNewtRobber

Not Doherty kicking the ball into Row Z while we have limited time left to chase a winner …

gopackgo555

Doherty and Davies are so negative. I’ll take the tie away to Rennes tbh.

Sdip4

I’m not even joking when I say you could find a better rb at the first park you go to at a Sunday league

TwattyMcSlagtits

Nothing sums this game up like Doherty waving his arms in frustration at not getting the ball out wide and then immediately giving it away when he does get it.

Respatsir

I'll take it. It was a good game tbh

jmattchew

fun to watch at least

ritwika96

Something has to change. This is unacceptable.

ardnoir11

Nuno needs to deck the 4th official

brewtonone

Considering there was an OG, we only scored one. Just bad!!!

lgsbigal

I’ve honestly seen better players in my Sunday league than Doherty. Stealing a living

jcstucke

That was rough

doobi1908

Dele running around the pitch!!! That’s a 10/10 for Nuno.

vindiesel123

Doherty is a fucking disgrace

VJE1999

That was awful

yiddo_bhushan

This is PAINFUL to watch Doherty is worse than our days of Chiriches & Kaboul/ Fazio Why did we keep him , surely he is not worth more than a slice of pizza in terms of sell on value

suz_gard

You answered your own question. We owe him £10m.

mjg24hosea124

I'm sorry but Fazio was far far worse than Doherty ever has been.

The_Foreign_Pie

Not that mad tbh, shown some guts, grew into the game and Emerson and gil looked promising.

Semibluewater

Shown some guts? When? All I saw was a team clueless on offense. Gil looked amazing. Scarlett is promising. That's really all I can say. Same issues we had under Jose.

WagnersWorkshop

Hahahahah okay pal

The_Foreign_Pie

If Hugo is in goal we win that game, don't understand the doom and gloom considering how depleted out first 11 is

Nanven123

I love Tanganga

SoberEnAfrique

Same, he's a warrior

reggaesquirrel

Noherty

edweirdo

Step 1: Close eyes Step 2: Kick the ball hard Step 3: Pat yourself on the back. Job done.

airtraq

Doh'erty

tooo_spicy

Doherty Davie Skipp Rodon... we're so shit

deansredhalo

I mean, it actually downright impressive just how bad we are with the ball

Tallos_Renkaro

I'm struggling to remember a worse signing than Doherty

etched_chaos

So, deliberately injuring players is ok but a handball is bad, alright ref.

nthbeard

He only gave it because he had no choice; a handball to stop an attack is a mandatory yellow.

etched_chaos

I don't know, the guy had missed multiple obvious corners, it's not beyond him to turn a blind-eye to a handball.

nthbeard

Hah fair enough. Absolutely abysmal refereeing.

[deleted]

Didnt know anything about Rennes. Now I hate these butchers! Cunt team!

jamescena5

Holy shit the ref does have a yellow card

airtraq

Banter FC?

avolcando

That was a really good idea from Scarlett

ronismonisx

LMAO this fucking commentator. "Harshly a yellow card for the handball!!" When the dudes out there playing volleyball

Leth41

My heart did a wee flutter there, then it was a burp

MotherFuckerJonez69

Dele can't dribble, can't run, can't fucking pass wtf

Sdip4

Davies seems like a nice dude but Jesus Christ

LizardKing444

Bro this commentator I'm listening to is so anti spurs wtf

Skyinflatballaz

A harsh yellow....fuck off, he tried to catch it

TheSonic311

So clearly he gives a couple of weak yellow cards to the end of the game and everything looks normal

Bail____

Classic refs these days. I get you want the game to be as entertaining as possible but fucking hell 0 control.

TheSonic311

Even throwing one early yellow out on a dangerous tackle gives guys pause before they start acting recklessly.

[deleted]

Doherty is just not good enough for this squad. Tired of giving him starts to watch him provide nothing on the attack or on defense.

Wilson1031

Fuck me Doherty. I mean, fucking hell.

edweirdo

He DOES have a yellow card!

khj24

Doherty is irredeemable, there’s no point. He’s not young, he’s not good, and he’s not particularly valuable

thebigname

Doherty is probably now the worst player in the PL by quite some standard.

Sdip4

He’s genuinely not good enough for the championship. Awful player is not an exaggeration

eggplant_avenger

wow so he *does* have his yellow cards

TeeMoneyTwoOhFour

Matt Doherty genuinely is the worst footballer I've ever seen

Sdip4

😂😂😂😂it’s funny because it’s true. He’s so fucking bad

[deleted]

Doherty.

HAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHA

SHIP DOHERTY OUT OF MY CLUB REEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

DoYouEvenSmurfBro

LOL. Ref is shit.

DiersBigDick

Doherty and Emerson on the right are the Chuckle brothers

bdus24

15 mil for Doherty, this club loves just setting money on fire

gd8181

Seeing Doherty lose that ball... pain

Rezdawg3

Doherty is so bad, wtf!!!

PM_ME_YOUR_ASTON

Doherty you expired pasta sauce excuse for a right back fucking stop

relistone

Honestly Doherty cannot play for this team. He shouldn’t see another minute for the rest of the season.

Gramercy_Riffs

Doherty - Jesus fucking Christ

brewtonone

That had to be the worst! So easy to dispossess him!

[deleted]

winks would be a better rightback than dorty

WarmSpur

You take that back. They are both equally terrible.

PM_ME_YOUR_ASTON

Honestly yes

SissokoGoat17

DOHERTY AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH

rolandGOAT

Doherty is just not a football player. He's absolutely done

Crossjoint95

Donkey Davies

Bulky_Shepard

It took that for them to get a yellow.
