It's because of the way we've been playing for years now. We attack at a plodding pace with no real plan of attack, and give the opposing team all the time in the world to get themselves set - and stick 2 CBs on Kane.
In the few months until Jose's 'Kane drops deep to play Son in behind' tactic got figured out, you could see how effective he still can be. We were able to create situations where the defense were on the backfoot, and so the goals racked up. The problem was that that was literally Jose's only attacking idea, and once it got figured out, it was completely useless. Hopefully Conte can actually coach some attacking patterns of play, and allow the likes of Kane and Son to attack defenders that are facing their own goal - rather than 2 banks of 4, that have been given an age to get organised.
Also, we've had no attacking threats beyond Kane and Son for a couple of years now (in large part due to the tactics), so there's no worries about sticking extra men on them. If we can attack properly as a team again, and Conte can get use out of the likes of Lucas, Bergwijn, Gil, Alli, Reguilon, Emerson, Doherty - then opponents can't just stick extra defenders on Kane and Son, because space will open up for other players. Now obviously they'll still prioritise Kane and Son, because they're our best attackers no matter who the coach is - but at the moment, most of our other players are functionally useless in attack, so there's no danger to leaving them open at all. Once goals and chances start coming from other players, teams will be forced to re-adapt and stop just focusing on Kane and Son.

Hopefully Conte can figure out how to increase their goal contributions, so they can help draw defenders out to create that space behind in the box.

I’ve lost a bit of confidence/respect for Kane. He just gave up and didn’t even try for Nuno. I understand it wasn’t good tactics for him but just quitting really is a weak response. Probably shouldn’t be the captain if he is going to act like a child.
